I recently visited for a nice day out , lured by its reputation and only to be met with one of the worst dining experiences of my life was probably better off going to McDonald’s would have gotten a smile atleast. The staff was shockingly rude, as if my presence was an inconvenience rather than a valued patron. Standing at the door waiting that long, so had to seat out selfs down and I had to wait even longer to get noticed and to even be given menus after waiting around 10 mins when the waitress did eventually come over to take our order she wonder off in the middle of it. After out order was taken I just wanted to leave after I heard the staff bad mouthing other customers at the back , food finally arrived and it was shocking , bread was to thick wouldn’t even call it a toastie it was genuinely a loaf of bread, probably why they are charging so much for a sandwich so left most of it as it wasn’t enjoyable there was no check back on us or any type of friendly conversation during the staff was so rude and unwelcoming from the start I have never gotten up to fast and left didn’t even want to stay any longer to even have a wander around the antique shop , It’s a shame as I was long time customer coming with my grandparents the new manager is a shambles it was much better when the older gentleman tim used to run it as food was great and he was a lovely man. They seemed to very friendly with the older customers but when it came to me and my partner it seemed to be a task to serve us seemed to be a pretty ageism I’d imagine if I came with my grandparents it would be a different story. And also to top it all off the milk they used for our drinks wasn’t even refrigerated it was sitting out on the counter….yikes £34.20 for two toasties and two hot drinks

This is a great eatery and coffee stop. Friendly staff, lovely spaniel, great location, home-cooked food, good choices and excellent ambience. It wouldn’t be the same without the antique showroom as that adds to the overall experience. Chap that runs it is personable and friendly and is always helpful. Always a warm welcome, esp on a wild, windy and chilly Feb morning - greeted by a roaring fire, smiles and cheery hello’s from the staff. This was our 2nd visit and we deliberately detoured to get some amazing home cooked food and plonked ourselves next to the fire. Brunch was ordered - piping hot broth and a double breakfast roll each. The soups were so tasty (chicken broth and leek and potato) followed by floury baps containing THE most amazing black pudding, delish bacon and a perfectly cooked poached egg. We had a brief visit from Weasel (owners dog) before she was returned to the car. When we went to pay we were tempted by the home baking and chose a fudge donut and a mandarin danish. We were sent our way with smiley “thank you’s” and “see you again soon”. We will def be back - can’t beat lovely folk, great food and a cosy, friendly atmosphere.

Teas and coffees.(BYOB We supplied our own alcoholic drinks).Had a celebration cake delivered by local baker who Tim uses and that was fantastic . What a find! Situated in the Rait antiques centre this is a wonderful spot for lunch. The food is lovely and always fresh and of a very high standard but the real reason this is a five star restaurant is the exceptional customer service the owner goes out of his way to make sure every single customer is created like an old friend or new one. We Visited the Rait Antique Centre this week mainly to go and see the Carse Antiques showroom as we had seen it on Instagram. Having had a nice look round we decieded to go and have breakfast in the central cafe within the centre. The atmosphere is fairly welcoming although it was rather cold, having said that there was a wood burning stove but it would appear to be insufficient. The menus and price boards are totally baffling to the extent that it is almost impossible to work out what you will end up being charged, however we ordered breakfast. The food was well presented and tasty and the coffee was perfectly adequete but my husband felt the milk provided for the coffee was not fresh. There was also dust and cobwebs falling from the ceiling the whole time we were eating as there was obviously something going on above, this did not make for a very pleasant meal. After finishing we were presented with the bill, to say we were shocked is an understatement, the cost of what I would have considered a fairly meagre breakfast was outrageous plus it was almost impossible to tally up against the various menus and boards. Not wanting to cause a scene we just paid up and left but I can assure you next time we visit Carse Antiques we will be giving the Tufted Duck a wide berth.

So - we headed here on the back of all the good reviews from TripAdvisor - and, true to the reviews, the young girl who served us was lovely. Our breakfast rolls were also ‘nice’ HOWEVER - we were charged £21.75 (!!!!!!!) for a scrambled egg roll, a roll on black pudding with a fried egg and 2 coffees. The menu is very confusing and misleading. I wish I’d taken a photo 🤦🏻♀️. So, under ‘breakfast rolls’ it says ‘1 of the above items’ - with talk of eggs, sausage, bacon, black pudding …and ‘extra for 2nd item’ - with ‘£5.25/ £6.00’ then quoted as the prices (which, in good faith - even though expensive - we took to mean £5.25 for 1 item in your roll & £6 for 2 items). We thought £5.25/£6.00 was steep for a breakfast roll (…& we’ve enjoyed breakfast rolls in many many places!!) - but, given the positive TripAdvisor reviews and the thought of supporting a local business, we thought we’d stay. The rolls were ‘nice’ (exactly as you’d expect for a breakfast roll!!!) - but the bill was another matter. So, the scrambled egg roll was rung up at £7.50 - the chap who rang up our bill said it was ‘2 eggs’ - so I get charged for ‘Eggs on Toast with Tomato’ - as opposed to a breakfast roll (???!!!!!) …& hubby’s roll isn’t £6 with 2 items … it’s £8!!!!! …because £6 is the charge for a hot roll (???) and the +£2 (not mentioned anywhere on the menu) is for his fried egg (+£2 for a fried egg …really???!!!!)???!! Places have it hard just now …I understand - but this felt like outright stealing from us. £7.50 for a scrambled egg roll and £8.50 for one with black pudding and a fried egg is shameful (irrespective of it being ‘Stornaway’ which any other self-respecting establishment serves too). The man who took our money this morning should be ashamed of himself. I know this is only a few £’s in total - but there’s a principal here. I have NEVER in all the years of TripAdvisor written a bad review - but the gent in this cafe is ‘skimming’ off the customers through a baffling & confusing menu and if this review encourages requests for clarity without the same ‘scammed’ feeling as us, then job done.

We went out of our way to come here based on the good reviews but left a bit disappointed unfortunately. They apparently serve hot food until 1530, we turned up around 1445 but they'd already stopped doing hot food for the day. They offered us soups and sandwiches, which sounded great, but then it turned out they didn't have one of the two soups available. We all ended up having the only soup available, which was chicken. It was pretty good soup and we all enjoyed it, despite one of the bowls not actually having any chicken in it. Service was polite and cheery but a bit hit and miss. For a simple order of 4 soups, 2 sandwiches, and some drinks we ended up being served by 3 different staff members and having to reconfirm our order twice. We also ended up with an extra sandwich which we sent back and took off the bill. The other reviews seem great, and the staff did seem to be trying hard so maybe we just caught them on a bad day and need to give them another chance. Oh well!
