Packed on the day of our visit and we had probably the last table. Food was excellent quality and service was very friendly if s we’d bit haphazard at times. Part of meal arrived late and incomplete but overall very good

The Mill is a wonderful little gem of a place. The customer service is superb, which is something that is sadly lacking in the hospitality industry. We arrived for breakfast and were greeted with friendly smiles, our order was taken promptly, food arrived quickly and the food was exceptional. If you are looking for a wonderful breakfast in a venue with high standards of service, this is your place. We’ll be back!

Visited for lunch and it was worth stopping after passing many times in the past. As it was a lovely day the lady offered for us to sit on the terrace - we were made to feel so special and the level of customer service and friendliness is top notch. We opted for Cullen skink with open sandwich and macaroni cheese. Both were very tasty and good portion size. Tried to go for lunch last week but no tables were available so I would advise booking in advance. This has not out me off going back as it is such a lovely wee gem of a place.

Dropped in for lunch. We sat in the dog friendly part. Quickly seated and we both chose the mac n cheese and coffee. The Mac cheese was very nice and the garlic bread nice and garlicky, but I found the coffee a bit bitter. Portion size was ok. I feel it was a wee bit pricey for what you got.The staff were lovely.

Absolutely appalled today. Myself and partner went for breakfast. Once it arrived there was a hair in it. Return it to the counter where I informed 2 staff members. One staff member said “where” 2nd one went “ewwwww”. I was not offered an apology I did say I didn’t want anything else as was disgusted by this. At no point did staff come our table to offer apologies Nothing. My partner finished and paid for his breakfast and our drinks That the 2nd time I’ve been there in last 3weeks and both times I’ve been dissatisfied by the food and the waitress. As my friend took ill and I tried to cancel our food and was told no you still have to pay for it even though we only had just order it. We of course paid and left without the food as told it would take 10mins for food. Will not return or recommend to anyone.

It's my go-to place when I have visitors. The cullen skink is so good that I struggle to pick anything else when I visit, however having been for brunch too I can also praise the full breakfast and waffles. The staff are always welcoming and there are two parts to the restaurant for dog and non-dog lovers which is a great touch. Super reasonable prices too, would 100% recommend.

My friend and I had booked a table in the cafe part of The Mill, on arrival we were told that table was not available and we would have to sit in the round part. No explanation for this unavailability was given. We waited 15 minutes for our order to be taken and another 15 to get our food. The food was lovely. However we tried to order another coffee and cake and the waitress said she would return and didn’t. We then attracted the attention of a male server, who said they were short staffed and that, for him, lunch time had been “torturous “. I retorted it had also been for the customer. He said he couldn’t go any faster, which is not the way to appease a customer. The bill was then incorrect and my friend was grossly overcharged, however, this was rectified on pointing it out. I believe that this cafe could have employed measures to mitigate the staff shortage, however, profit seems to have trumped good service. Very disappointing.

We paid a visit here to-day and I was not impressed. First of all the music is too loud, they never think of those of us who wear hearing aids . We especially went to this restaurant as they have a very limited menu but on it is cullen skink ( a fish soup ) well they had none to-day and that is what we really wanted. They had not had their smoked fish delivery but the town has perfectly good fish shops they could have gone to . I ordered a small haddock and chips and that is all I got one small piece of haddock, chips and nothing else not even a bit of salad or peas . I did get a sliver of lemon . I will not be returning . If you are looking for a good variety of choices of meals this is not the place to be .

- [ ] Lovely modern facility which is literally just off the A90 and so ideal for a quick stop when you are driving …. in our case from Aberdeen to Manchester. There are lots of tables in two separate areas, one a restaurant with menu service and the other more of a cafe with cabinet cakes and scones. At lunchtime, all areas were full and busy but the efficient staff member who greeted us was able to clear a table for us. The coffee was a decent strength, which we did appreciate after a series of very weak, expensive coffees in Aberdeen. There was a choice of scones, and we also tried the Victoria sponge which was an average size, not too large and not too small - just as I wanted it. The guest wifi works well and the toilets are good too. Lots of car parks and the area around attractively rural with the lovely bright yellow rape seed crops catching the eye at this time of year. Perfect place for a break and a refresh.

It was ok when we arrived - lots of sanitiser, waiters wearing masks, noting contact details, etc. and not many customers. But tables were very close together, and it the place quickly filled up - with little or no ventilation. If there was anyone in there with Covid-19, then I guess a number of us will now have it. We’re visiting from Toronto and decided to try out the Mill for lunch, ordered the angus steak & ale pie and it was absolutely delicious, the chips were incredible and the meat was very well made! I honestly cannot stress enough how bland Canadian food tastes compared to this. Anyone visiting from out of country, or even out of town I’d definitely recommend this place. Not just for the food but the staff were incredibly nice, and new the right times to come and ask questions, (I’ve been to a couple places where the staff hover around you like a moth to a flame which makes the experience uncomfortable), my s/o made mention that he also felt very welcomed upon walking in.

The majority of the staff are very helpful and pleasant but it is spoiled by what I presume to be the owner/head waiter who is very surly and has been on some occasions very rude. The arrogant attitude is totally uncalled for and spoils what is a lovely place. I work in a restaurant myself and would never treat my customers like this particular person treats his.

We were seated in the cafe to the left, small, about 9 or 10 tables, nicely decorated and had a cosy feel to the place. Fresh flowers on the table were a nice touch and the views were fabulous. Waitress service was fantastic and actually left you alone to enjoy your meal, which we thoroughly did. I opted for the soup of the day plus a sandwich and my husband chose the fish which was crispy but soft on the inside. Soup was very tasty indeed. Food was amazing and we will revisit and try the steak pie that was recommended. A different part of the cafe is dog friendly too which is a bonus for us, so we shall visit asap. Had a lovely lunch, the Cullen Skink was one of the best I have had. We were made most welcome by the staff on what was a busy Saturday. We will be back very soon.

Nice menu, pleasant surroundings, helpful staff. Friend and I visit regularly not least because it is easy to get to, plenty parking and most of all the best Cullen Skink anywhere. Nice home baking too

Had our work Xmas lunch here, 10 of us in total. We pre-ordered and everything was served very promptly, all of us enjoyed our meals very much, delicious food, great value and excellent service. We really couldn't fault it. Highly recommend.

Friends and I recently had lunch here. Whilst the food was tasty, fresh and hot, there just wasn’t enough of it! The portions of macaroni cheese had a very limited amount of chips and side salad, and the same went for the fish. The dessert was a nice chocolate orange torte however for the price, it ought to have been double the size. We will probably return in the hope that we get more for the money next time! I’d still recommend though!

Popped in here today for lunch on the passing and was quite impressed. Plenty of parking space, cafe was clean and newly decorated, food was good, prices weren’t bad and it’s dog friendly. Service was a bit slow even though it was very quiet and nobody greeted us when we arrived so we weren’t sure where to go/sit. The staff were very pleasant when they did serve us so can’t complain and will definitely return if I’m in the area again.

We stopped by for a bowl of soup on a cold blustery day after a walk around Forfar Loch. Lovely warming soup and cheese scone and a nice warm welcome too. Although the cafe was busy we managed to get a table but it’s obviously a very popular place

Good meal, good choice menu. The salmon was really excellent as was the desserts. Recommend booking as fairly small. Staff was attentive. If you are thinking of only having one course please note they seem to only do 2 or 3course meals. Will visit again.

Haven’t been for a few months for no particular reason. Won’t leave it so long again. Usually have Cullen Skink which is superb and is the benchmark in my view. However decided for a change to have macaroni cheese Superb. Applewood smoked cheese made the sauce slightly different. Excellent.

Picked up the recommendation from Trip Advisor. It was an Italian themed menu and all 3 courses were delicious and beautifully presented.

Went for a family meal. Disappointed from the start. No desired fish main course and preferred wine unavailable. Parma ham and strawberries are literally half a strawberry wrapped in a small piece of Parma ham, no balsamic drizzle as advertised.

Worth a stop for the gorgeous Cullen Skink soup, perfectly seasoned, loaded with smoked fish served with a light, warm cheddar cheese scone. Yum! Tea excellent and super hot. Great service.

I was out walking the dog in the area and called by here for a coffee. There is a restaurant and a café facility and I was directed to the café. Nice place, the staff were courteous and prompt even though they were quite busy. The coffee was better than that found in many other UK facilities which was a pleasant surprise. I noticed a number of folk around me having an early lunch and these looked very tempting and well presented. My dog was welcome in the café. Nice place and worth the walk out there, that said there is plenty of parking about the place.

Terrible, don't go unless you don't mind it being dirty and leaving smelling like a chip pan. The picnic table, bench, floor, skirting boards were filthy and there was a blue haze around open plan kitchen. Extractor fans were not in use, we left reeking of fat. Our meals were terrible and the server looked like she'd just walked in off the streets, leggings in socks, trainers and a black hoody. When it originally opened,2020, it had so much promise.

Great, understated restaurant. The soup was a very generous portion and very tasty. Also lived the lemon and blueberry sponge.

Never have we been to a hotel with such friendly welcoming staff. Everyone we met showed us the greatest hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and enjoyed the food and again the friendly attitude of the staff. Breakfast was varied with a choice of hot dishes including Arbroath smokies. Our room was spacious and warm with a view over the green. We will certainly return if we visit Montrose again. The birdwatching was good too!
