Fantastic setting looking out over the golf course. Service was excellent and attentive and the food amazing. Good size portions and good choices.

Impromptu decision to have lunch here and glad we did (me and my adult son). Nice ambience, light and airy (it was a beautiful sunny February day) with a great view towards the 18th green. We went for the fish and chips and chopped up peas (not mushy). Food was great, staff were attentive and friendly and we sat for a while chatting so no pressure to leave, it wasn’t too busy. Will definitely come back.

Great restaurant located down by the golf course with amazing food, staff snd views! Especially in and around Carnoustie, it’s a real treat having a guilty place like this so close to home!

Great lunch and service was very good, beautiful surroundings I wish they would do afternoon tea on more days, not just a Friday and Saturday

We booked for my daughters birthday on Christmas Eve for lunch and were very much looking forward to it however the menu was disappointing I chose chicken breast as did my daughter which was on pasta but when it arrived it looked like it was on a bed of semolina and not a lot else, my husband chose steak and chips, steak was cut up in slices with a bucket of chips and a large rocket salad to fill up the plate I felt the only meal which was worth having was my other daughters fish and chips. On the plus side staff were pleasant and atmosphere good .

We had a lovely meal at the rookery for my birthday in the middle of December..it's a lovely setting with great views over the golf course and nicely decorated inside. Tables are nicely spaced out so you don't feel like you have to listen to the table next to you. Great attentive waiting staff who made recommendations for our meal. We both enjoyed our meal so much, the food was delicious and nicely presented. We just shared the lemon posset for desert...they should sell these, it was so tasty! The chef also made a happy birthday chocolate written message with some chocolates which was a lovely touch and made a nice finish to our lovely meal. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend if visiting carnoustie

Went for an impromptu lunch with a friend and got a table no problem - Joey and other staff were friendly, accommodating and the food was delicious! Wish we could have stayed for drinks as the atmosphere was lovely, but we'll be back for sure.

A lovely experience from start to finish. Visited with friends for Sunday Lunch on 5th November 2023 . Our waiter, Fraser was obviously well trained and looked after us very well. The lunch was exceptional , the roast beef and vegetables cooked o perfection. Well done Fraser for looking after us we will be back

Unfortunately after my recent visit to The Rookery for afternoon tea I have to agree with reviewer April 23 ...disappointed in the 'inconsistency. ' I too previously had a great experience earlier in the year when I took a friend for birthday afternoon tea. The service was first class and the quality and quantity of food could not be faulted. I have raved about it to everyone. My recent visit with another friend was a completely different experience ...such a disappointment. The first cup of tea/coffee was 'free' any thereafter was extra! No sausage rolls, 3 sandwiches each and 2 cakes each (as lovely as they were, not value for money. When I commented to the staff the afternoon tea was not as expected or up to the standard of my last visit scones were served, hence requiring more tea. I have never had an afternoon tea where you get charged for an extra cup. Sorry but I have to agree a hit or a miss.

Not the best experience. Restaurant very quiet. Starters were terrible. Had warm crumpet of crab and crayfish thermidor. It was cold. The crumpet tasted uncooked. The topping was mushy and fishy tasting - which didn't go well with the cold crumpet. Main course was scallops and black pudding. Black pudding overcooked. Scallops were good. Disappointing portion size. Had fries luckily but shocking to be charged £5.50. Even worse were the few sprigs of brocolli for £6.00. Overall an expensive dinner. There are better places to eat in Carnoustie. I would not come here again.

Dining with friends who live in Carnoustie, was my first visit to The Rookery. It was not overly busy on a Wednesday evening, however the menu choice was excellent, and with the exception of the steaks (I appreciate that they will probably have been top of the range cuts) - the choices were reasonably priced. (given that everybody in Britain under the age of 60 was taught using metric units - why are the steaks measured in ounces?) The service was very good, and the dishes beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. None of us had any complaints whatsoever about our meals, and I hope that I get the chance to dine at The Rookery again next time I am in the area.

The food was outstanding, we were welcomed and served by a lovely younger blonde lady who was very kind and went out of her way to make us feel at ease and comfortable. She did not hesitate to make sure about allergies and requirements. We had lots of laughs! At the end of the evening we had a little conversation and she was delightful! This was our third visit to The Rookery but haven’t been in 4 years as we live in England. Very pleasant reception upon arrival, staff extremely attentive and our main waiter Ali was very friendly and professional. The food was second to none with a wonderful view. This is a very relaxed restaurant to come for couples and families. Can’t wait to visit again on our return.
