Terrible, don't go unless you don't mind it being dirty and leaving smelling like a chip pan. The picnic table, bench, floor, skirting boards were filthy and there was a blue haze around open plan kitchen. Extractor fans were not in use, we left reeking of fat. Our meals were terrible and the server looked like she'd just walked in off the streets, leggings in socks, trainers and a black hoody. When it originally opened,2020, it had so much promise.

Having read a few of the previous reviews was a bit sceptical but the slightly interesting and different menu tempted us in for breakfast. There was a slight delay as the chef was out for supplies. But we were offered coffee and didn’t have to wait too long. I had the poached eggs on onions with flatbread (I forget what they were called) it was so very tasty. My husband had the shakshuka which he thoroughly enjoyed. We like the look of the lunch and evening menus so will hopefully return very soon. The service was ok - the waiter seemed a bit shy/unsure of himself but he was pleasant. I liked the decor and I loved the music (my husband didn’t though). But we will definitely go back to try some food later in the day.

Seen this place on the television and wanted to give it a try, so phoned at 1:00pm on a Saturday and booked a table for a late lunch. Booking taken and confirmed, travelled the 22 miles to Forfar to be there for or 2:00pm booking (1 hr after booking meal). Upon entering the restaurant (which was half empty) we were advised they had shut the kitchen as they had run out of food!!!! You couldn't make it up, they clearly didn't care less and we had to leave and go elsewhere, joke of an establishment.

Yet another visit with poor service and lack of produce. No skimmed or semi skimmed milk on Sunday morning for my wife's skinny latte so she opted for tea but no teabags. She went and bought her own so she could have a drink with family. Yet another 40 minutes and no hot water. My niece's latte was just hot milk, no coffee. While this was happening another party gave up waiting and left. We have given up using this as our Sunday venue for coffee/breakfast. Another reason for this is opening times vary and can't always get inside.

Overall, we had a disappointing family meal at the local restaurant. We booked for a table of 12 for my mum's birthday. We were the only table when we arrived. Another table of 2 arrived during our main course. There was a friendly informal server when we arrived though I got the impression he was not a formal waiter as he did not know much about the menu. He also disappeared after a short time. After this time, we were served by one of the kitchen staff. Obviously, this led to inadequate and slow service. The meals were served very slowly. We had no option to order more drinks throughout the meal. Our main course plates were not taken away after we finished and after waiting for a while we decided just to leave and get deserts at home. Some comments about the food. We were told when we first arrived that there were no steaks. That reduced our options considerably. However, what surprised us was one of the diners at the other table was served a steak! We were told that they do not have tomato sauce. This is highly unusual for a restaurant that serves steak, burgers and chicken tenders with chips. One of our party member nipped down the road to a local shop and bought a bottle ketchup for the table. The food was okay but we felt it was very one dimensional. A lot of the dishes were served in a similar manner with the same dressings and toppings. The chips were a little greasy. I would have wished that our experience was better but unfortunately it wasn't so. I understand how difficult it must be for the restaurant trade just now and we try and support local businesses. However, we would still expecting decent service and food. I tried to message the restaurant in the first instance for a response but have not received any reply.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable brunch and were just finishing with a few coffees when we noticed that the male chef and female server were basically 'getting it on' in the open kitchen. The other server appeared to be ignoring their antics and there were other customers dining. It's great that the staff are friendly but these two in particular, 9/06/22, were completely unprofessional.

I wish I could think of a single good thing to say about this restaurant but as far as we were concerned there was not one. For a start the music is loud and makes conversation difficult. The decor was warehouse chic but the enterance the waiter used was grubby and needing decorated. We ordered a full breakfast each and I have to say it is probably the worst cooked breakfast I have tasted. The eggs were overdone so underneath was not edible . The bacon consisted on one piece of overcooked streaky bacon . Instead of two sausaged some proper bacon would have been good. We got some strange peppers in a little bowl to go with the breakfast. I cannot understand why they would want to serve this with brakfast a tomaot or mushrooms would have gone better.

I have been wanting to try this local cafe for ages and finally went along on Sunday. Firstly, our table was super wobbly and just annoying. Secondly, after a long wait where no one acknowledged us, we had to go up to the kitchen area and ask if someone could come and take our order. Thirdly, I know the waiting staff are young but surely the first rule is “service with a smile”. Didn’t see any of them crack a smile even once! It actually felt like we were being a hassle and a nuisance by wanting to be in this establishment. The food arrived after a very long wait. In this time we had seen other customers complain and send back food. One said his pancakes were completely burnt. My boyfriends bacon and black pudding roll arrived but alas without any bacon…. The eggs I had were really delicious, as was the flat bread and I can’t fault the food at all. The place was busy and seemed to be popular but there is so much room for improvement here!

We really enjoyed our ‘tartan tapas’ evening meal; it provided something different from what is available in other restaurants in town. As it is tapas, the dishes are for sharing. There are 7 in total (6 savoury and 1 sweet) which you receive one at a time over a two hour period. The dishes included the likes of a different take on a traditional Spanish patatas bravas, pasta, fish, beef and chocolate brownies. All were prepared to a high standard with many of the ingredients, such as the meat, sourced locally. The staff were happy to accommodate my dietary requirements when i asked for no fish; vegetarian alternatives were instead provided. Only criticism would be the - sometimes - long wait between dishes. Our sitting ended up over running past 2 hours, resulting in the next sitting having to queue outside the restaurant for 10 minutes whilst they waited for us to leave.

We then watched two later tables being served food whilst we had to wait until 1:55pm. Speed of service at lunch is essential & it's a shame that despite the good food that we had to wait so long. What a fantastic experience! We decided to take advantage of Eat out to help out and experience the Tartan Tapas at Cashleys as a treat and to try something different. We don’t regret it!On entering we were greeted by a lovely member of staff and shown to our table upstairs - no issues re social distancing as the tables were well spaced out.Our server explained that we would be served 7 plates of food over the course of the evening. First out was a tarte flambé with cheddar and bacon which was divine and got the taste buds tingling. Next up was cauliflower with a scirracha sauce - it certainly had a kick to it but we both agreed it was an unexpected delight and something we’d happily eat again. Our final “starter” was squid and, while good, neither of us are massive fans of squid.Onto our mains and first up was a stand out, superb chicken alfredo. Yummy, creamy, shredded chicken with caramelised onions. A true treat for the tastebuds. This was closely followed by smoked salmon served with a rhubarb jelly and edible flowers. Hubby skipped this as he doesn’t like salmon - all the more for me! Next out was our star of the show - an absolutely scrumptious, delicious, melt in the mouth piece of beef served with fondant potatoes and a lovely jus. Absolutely sensational and quite possibly the best best beef we have ever tasted, Our final course was sea bass. I’m not a fan of fish so I sampled it then handed over the plate to hubby. It was lovely but I almost wanted to hang onto that beef forever. We were comfortably full and opted not to have a dessert. We both agreed our personal preference would have been to substitute the sea bass with a sweet course but others may prefer to miss out on sweet. What an absolutely fabulous dining experience. The food was amazing and the staff were both attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Next time I’d like to sit downstairs and enjoy watching the chefs at work. We will be back.

We went midweek for a birthday celebration, we decided on the tartan tapas menu. The tapas is served over 7 delicious courses, we were asked our likes and dislikes, and each course was explained to us in detail. The first course we tried was triple cooked chips, with 3 types of jams; bacon, chilli, and beetroot. You really have to taste the bacon jam, it’s just amazing. We then had haggis spring rolls, the pastry on the spring rolls was one of the best I’ve ever tasted, I could’ve eaten them all night. Next came Angus ribeye, cooked to our exact liking with parsnip and blackberry, all the different flavours made this dish taste brilliant. Next we had a venison bridie with beetroot ketchup, my other half just loved it. Cod loin and creamed leeks came next, cooked and seasoned to perfection and the perfect amount for a tapas menu. Next we had pork fillet, with harissa spice on a bed of chick pea and chorizo, again cooked really well and just the right amount for a taster. Finally we had sea bass pico de gallo, I can honestly say this piece of fish was the best tasting sea bass I’ve had in a very long time. We were offered sorbet pallet cleanser between courses which is a nice touch. The staff are pleasant and attentive, and the restaurant is clean and it’s great that it’s open plan as you can watch the chef create your dishes. We had wine for our meal, and some lovely decaf coffee with the birthday cake we brought ourselves and they kindly put candles on for us and sang happy birthday to the birthday boy. The staff let us see the other menus they also offer and we can’t wait to try them all out. I highly recommend you try this restaurant, we didn’t take any pictures as the food wasn’t on the plates long enough, though we did get a “selfie” with the extremely talented chef. We can’t wait to go back.

Liked the healthy menu and received great service.Think they need to get the aircon sorted tho as my family all had stinging, watery eyes due to open kitchen and poor ventilation!!Dont let that put you off .... still well worth a visit!!

Very friendly staff, warm welcome on arrival and very attentive throughout the meal. Good menu: food prepared from scratch, carefully presented, delicious. The squid starter was tender and well spiced. The ribeye steak was tasty with a stunning wild mushroom sauce. The seabass was beautifully fresh and delicately cooked. Puddings were great all round, fantastic: epic chocolate delice and sticky toffee pudding, huge cheese boards with wonderful cheeses (and served at the proper temperature, soft ripe brie not fridge-cold!)This is an ambitious restaurant striving for a really high quality experience. There are a few slightly unpolished edges (young staff perhaps learning their craft a little, food can take a while to be served, decor and lighting could be a little warmer) but these are minor gripes. Good value, delicious and ambitious food in an unhurried setting. This place deserves to do well.

Once it arrived I started to eat upon realising it was sprinkled with black pudding pieces! Worst food ever for a vegetarian. Upon complaining they did offer to make a fresh order but we didn't have time. Customer service from waiting staff was excellent and my partner's curried chicken sandwich was enjoyed. I would return but just hope that the chef team understand what a vegetarian actually eats! It didn't seem to be a one off mistake since the table sitting next to us overheard and said the same had happened to them in the past.

Finally somewhere in Forfar that does a brunch menu and - even better - eggs benedict! It has a slightly fancier menu than most other cafes in Forfar. Service was really good. They ran out of avocado for my friend’s wrap but, instead of taking it off the menu, one of the staff went to Asda and got more avacado. Only criticism is the lack of variety when it comes to cake. They really do need more of a choice as i could only see one type of cake. We chose to go to Tiffins afterwards as they have a larger range.

We’ve been lucky to visit a few times since this new restaurant has opened and have not been disappointed. We’ve sampled the delicious evening menu which caters for every dietary requirement. Really fresh and creative cooking. The lunch menu has lots of variety and we’ve enjoyed salads, soups and sandwiches. The only problem I had when sampling the breakfast menu was trying to decide what to order! As someone who has specific dietary requirements (gluten free and vegetarian) there is so much to choose from. Today, I went for the Cashley’s stack and it was to die for. Just what I needed for a Sunday brunch. The coffee is a real hit too. I think my hubby and I could’ve sat all day just soaking up the atmosphere!Great location, food, staff and ambiance. Visit at any time of for a really fresh menu which will cater for anyone!

The newly opened ”Cashley’s at the Cross” is clearly going to be a welcome addition to Forfar. Truth be told Forfar has been in need of a place like this for a long time.Four of us had dinner here on a Friday night not long after the new premises opened and we were all impressed. The place has been fitted out nicely with some real individual character and the big Forfar themed mural on the stairwell is really nicely done. There was a good atmosphere and a bit of life from the moment we got there. Service was good and staff were helpful, though maybe the girl who took our order was still learning as she got my starter order wrong. She was very apologetic but it wasn’t really an issue as what I got in error was beautiful. Who hasn’t made a mistake or two at work? The food could not be faulted for where it’s pitched - the modern bistro style - and was good value for money. Every one of us really enjoyed everything. Clearly they are working with good ingredients and cooking and presenting them well.Choice on the menu is small, which is always a GOOD sign of real food and not freezer-fare. The bigger the choice the lower the quality usually. If I had a complaint it was that the cheese board wasn’t adventurous enough for me, and it would have been nice for the waiter to have talked through it. I’m guessing it was 100% British if not 100% Scottish and if it was then that’s a great thing for you guys to be telling your customers and would have helped me get past feeling it was not adventurous enough. I’m not going to take it down a star for this as the cheese was not really a complaint - just an opinion of mine and they took feedback on the night. I’m happy to see Forfar get a place like this at last; I’m happy that it’s good and that the owner/chef has a clear idea of what he wants to do and the obvious ability to do it. Well worth a visit(s)Thanks for a cracking night out. See you again soon.

This newly opened café sits in a good location in the town. It isn’t large but feels quite spacious due to its contemporary décor. Exposed stonework and reclaimed wood. The menu is quite adventurous and slightly different in its choices.Unfortunately, the decaffeinated coffee offered was very poor quality. This is due to their supplier not being able to provide a suitable product to match that of their normal coffee. I’m sure they will sort this out soon. Perhaps putting sugar on the tables and providing teaspoons would also help! I think this café will do very well once all the teething problems are ironed out.

Booked a table online having read great reviews and thinking the lunch menu looked lovely. We got there and realised we needn’t have booked as there wasn’t a single soul in the place, which seemed a bit strange for a Saturday lunchtime! We were presented with a completely different menu to the one shown online, which had very plain choices and was not very exiting. We ordered 2 steak pies which were served with chips and 5 slices of carrot and a burger, which came nicely presented. Food was okay but the server was so shy/nervous we couldn’t hear what he was saying, we had to ask to order drinks after we had ordered food and we felt rushed out as soon as we’d taken our last mouthful. Food was fine but definitely won’t be rushing back!

Another excellent meal at Cashleys. Delicious food at a very reasonable price. Special mention for the chicken, cheddar and leek pie which was extremely tasty. On this occasion we ate in the golf club lounge and really enjoyed watching the golfers tee off. I can also recommend the beer and burger night and the high tea both of which we have recently enjoyed.

Lovely setting, nice decor etc but the customer service really let it down. The menu has no prices for items individually, the waitress said ‘it’s about £22 for two courses or something like that I think’, We then asked what was on draught to be told ‘can’t remember’. My other half then found the list in the menu. I could only assume that the waitress was maybe new to not know much about the menu etc, but was just very blasé about not knowing things. Lots of flies but given the recent weather, the windows needed to be open to keep the place cool, but there was no attempt to get rid of the flies/wasps which was kind of off putting. No one wants a load of flies running about your plate when you are trying to eat.Ordered food and it arrived 40 minutes later, bits missing from the dish compared to what was described in the menu. We received them at the end of the meal. Tried to order desert to be told ‘I don’t know if that is on the menu’ (it was, we read it from the menu) then we were told it would be ok but it would be a really long wait. Given the menu has only 3/4 sweet options, you would expect there to be a stock ready to use, especially at the weekend. Given the first wait was 40 minutes, we gave up. Wouldn’t be bad, but there was only 5 people in the place including us. Food was quite good, not worth the wait.

Set in Forfar Golf Club, the restaurant is a big step-up from what used to be there. The menu is imaginative and the food well presented, very tasty and inexpensive. The staff are friendly and efficient and the views over the golf course help complement the meal. One slight problem is having to walk into the middle of the golf club to find the toilets.

All fresh produce and tasted amazing The staff also went out of their way to offer gluten free desserts that weren't on the menu. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed x

First time at Cashleys and it was faultless. Very friendly and courteous welcome. First impression is the menu choice is rather limited, but the four of us made our choices which were all different. Complimentary bread, butter, olives arrived and were very nice. Starters, were Asparagus, Tarte Brie/mushrooms, Ham hock terrine, all were very very good = clean plates. Mains, Fillet steaks, mushroom/garlic sauce and one with mustard sauce, steaks were cooked to perfection and could have been cut with a spoon. Tarte caramelised onion/goats cheese. Feather blade of beef and juis. All dishes were without fault = Clean plates. Sweet, Lemon Merengue pie with Mango sorbet = clean plates. Chilean wine very reasonably priced. Nice cool Tennants. Honestly it was the best meal out we have had in a while. Our Australian guests were very impressed with the Scottish hospitality and quality/value of the food n drink. We had a great evening and HIGHLY recommend Cashleys.I have heard the cakes on a Sunday high tea are excellent so that will be our next visit. Thanks to the two lovely waitresses.

Great selection of burger options. Vegetarian and gluten free very well catered for. Also one of the party had very specific allergies and these were accommodated very professionally. Food was very tasty, chunky home made fries were nice on the side and the bonus of getting the burgers free on a ‘flip a coin promotion’ was an extra bonus. Felt a bit guilty however it was just luck and we would certainly be back. On a lovely summer night the views from the restaurant are also attractive which adds to the nice atmosphere.

For my mothers birthday I took her, along with my 10 year old son, to Cashley's for High Tea. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by a friendly waitress and the incredible aroma of home baking! Not long after being shown to our seat our attentive waitress asked for our drinks order and it was swiftly delivered along with a selection of toasts, butter and jam.We ordered two of the chicken katsu curries for my mother and I and a beef burger for my son.Our expectations were exceeded when our dishes arrived at our table. The chicken was crisp on the outside and succulent in the centre draped in a flavourful, lush sauce. The burger was exceptional, hand formed and made clearly with quality beef, served with the most amazing homemade chips! After our main we were served a choice of tea or coffee and had the luxury of helping ourselves to the cake table which was filled with some fantastic homely treats from traditional scones and fudge too eton mess and malteser cake.By the end of our meal we were already planning our next visit!!! Brilliant value for money, fantastic food and attentive staff in a beautiful setting. Spot on!
