The fish was enormous but the batter was soggy and stuck to the chips . Not great the place is tiny and May have been public toilet at one time.

As a visitor to Forfar, we went with reviews and tried this fish and chip shop. Very friendly staff but the food fell short of my expectations. I should have asked for a small fish and chips as the standard size gives you one and a half fish and too many chips. The fish was overcooked with too much batter swamping its tail and cooked to a thick hard crisp. That part was inedible. The chips were too full of grease. Half of my supper went in the bin. I’m afraid that if I am looking for a chippy in Forfar again, it’ll not be this one.

Einziger Nachteil kein Alkohol. :-)

I have been a customer since the present owner (Gary's) dad was the proprioter. This chip shop has the most extensive choices for all ages .The quality and quantity given is something to see. The food is freshly cooked to order and the friendly banter of the staff whilst waiting , is truly entertaining!

Made to order, so fresh and not bathed in grease. Pleasant banter from proprietor. Used frequently by lorry drivers so that says volumes.

This is a great place! The staff are very friendly and Gary the owner and cook obviously knows his stuff. A great place to stock up on books etc, that are lining the shelves in aid of a charity. The place is an Aladdin's cave if you have a sweet tooth, with a plethora of confectionary to choose from.

After reading all the wonderful reviews, we were looking forward to great fish and chips from what we thought must be the best chippy in Forfar. Staff were really friendly, prices and portion size were excellent but I'm sorry to say that this was probably the worst fish and chips we've ever had. Chips were soggy and the fish batter was thick and soggy, so bad that it went in the bin.

When I'm in the mood for a fish supper I always head here. Everything's cooked to order so nice and fresh and hot. If you've got a good appetite then this is the chippy for you as you always get a fish and a half and a good sized portion of chips. If you can't eat that much then ask for a small one. I love the fact that it still comes traditionally wrapped in paper (none of your polystyrene trays here!) and as I live outside of town they always double wrap it, I don't even have to ask, they always remember. There's always a good bit of banter while you're standing in the queue and there's plenty to look at while you wait, from the large collection of 2nd hand books which raise money for Clic Sargent to the array of sweets in jars behind the counter. You'll never be hungry after a visit to the Strathmore Fish Bar.

Thought I would check out reviews here, before going back to usual chippie. Feedback was right, great banter, decent pricing, they checked how far the food had to travel to wrap it up well. All freshly cooked orders and a treasure trove of sweets with a sweetie offered while you wait. Lovely fish and chips, small fish portion is the size of other regular ones. Highly recommend, will definitely be returning.

We love to pick up a takeaway when passing through Forfar, and eat it overlooking the loch. It's cooked fresh, so it's not fast food, but we don't mind.

Food Review - Monday 20 April 2015 Location - This is situated in Forfar. Car parking - Small car park at rear. To Book Or Not To Book - I walked in and ordered. The drinks - No drinks bought. Meal - Evening snack. The food - Two large bags of chips. The seating area - No seating area, take away only. The staff - The staff member who took the food order was polite and asked how far we had to travel before eating the chips, once I explained she then triple wrapped my chips, very thoughtful. Suggestions - None. Would we go back - Yes we will be back.

Great fish and chips cooked to order, we ordered regular fish suppers as opposed to small ones so got 1 and a half fish each, very filling! The service was great, we were asked if we were travelling far and when we said we'd be looking for somewhere to park to eat our meal in the car we were supplied with individually, double wrapped meals with forks napkins and hand wipes! We had a laugh with the staff - great place
