We booked here last minute with no idea what the place would be like. We were not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel is very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful, we will be back.

Poor customer service from restaurant. Phoned to enquire about carry out whilst driving north. Telephone answer machine indicates an option for the restaurant. When I got the restaurant, discovered it was closed, and suggested that the answer machine might be amended, I was informed that it had nothing to do with them and I should contact the hotel. Poor.

We popped in for coffee and a blether, and the lounge is really nice and comfortable. The service could not be better and the coffee was as good as I have had anywhere. I was very impressed with the choices of cheesecakes and although I exercised self control ,as I had very recently had lunch, it was clear from the person I was with that the Turkish Delight cheese cake was outstanding.

Had a lovely lunch here today. The young staff member serving was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the food was delicious and very promptly served. Would thoroughly recommend, we will definitely enjoy a meal here again.

Excellent food & lovely surroundings. The hotel has been gradually refurbished & Linda & Keith have made an excellent job. There are photographs displayed in the restaurant screen & the rest of the hotel looks amazing. Well worth a visit. Great atmosphere

Used for a staff training workshop. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Great food too - bacon rolls on arrival and lovely lunch. Will definitely use again for similar events.

Enjoyed an excellent celebratory lunch with friends in this lovely old building. Food couldn't be faulted, service was friendly and helpful and the view over the links golf course added thst extra something.

I can't understand where the reviews criticising the service are coming from as it was completely the opposite for us. Linda and her team provided us with great service, the food in the restaraunt was excellent both for dinner and breakfast. The decor of the hotel has maintained true to it's history.Our room was also comfortable and warm.Yes there were a few more things that would have added cream to the cake but for the cost it was great. We will be back.

Myself and my friends were travelling from Aberdeen to Edinburgh when we stumbled across a hidden gem of this hotel. Lovely and quaint when we entered. Food was lovely, very generous portions. Unfortunately for us, we couldn't have been more dissatisfied with the service. The waitress was way too relaxed in her approach to bringing food and drinks to the table. It took the waitress over 12 minutes to bring 4 pints of cordial to the table, and more than that to sort out a simple bill. There was no obvious reason to the poor and slow service as there was one other table who were finished with their meal. Food was nice and reasonable but due to the poor service, I would not be returning.

This was a big disappointment for a special family occasion. Spoilt by some very poor customer service. Allegedly no manager available to speak to us and food below average.

Cold staff with total lack of service knowledge , lukewarm over cooked food, no atmosphere.Kids sausages- deep fried to oblivion, roast beef over cooked and gravy made with powdered Demi glacé or bisto just awful.Feel totally cheated waited a hour almost for our mains then a further 30 mins for two kids icecream..... wasn’t even busy. Start to finish a terrible experience wouldn’t go back.

On a passé une nuit dans cet hôtel en revenant du Loch Ness. Hôtel charmant et très classe. Service impeccable et personnel très aimable.Situé face au terrain de golf à côté de la mer.Moins aimé le petit-déjeuner. Je pense que c'est en retrait par rapport à la catégorie de l'hôtel.

Nourriture excellente, on a eu du plaisir à y manger, personnels sympathiques. Restaurant conseillé !

The hotel itself has a nice ambience and pleasant views across the golf links, but the food is nothing to write home about. It’s not bad in any way - just very average. The service was quite slow although the staff were pleasant enough. All in all - rather underwhelming. Not a hotel that would feature highly on my list of places to go back to

This restaurant is part of a small hotel of the same name. I stayed here 1 night, and met one of my colleagues for dinner. Was given nice table at the window, with no complaint that 2 people were taking up a table for 6! I had steak pie, while my colleague had scampi. Food pretty much ok, but not very exciting. Service was good and the view was excellent, so Four-stars from me. I would eat here again, especially if arriving lateish to get a room at the hotel. (I think last orders in the restaurant are 8:30pm)

Family meal was great and the staff very friendly. The menu was good and reasonably priced. Service was quick and food well prepared with large portions.

We called in here after a windy and wet walk and were warmly welcomed. Food was excellent, plenty of choice on the menu. Very friendly staff. Unbelievably reasonably priced ( at lunchtime not sure about the evening)

A hidden gem in Montrose. Great range of good food served in a lovely surroundings. Fantastic view on to the Montrose golf links. Highly recommend.

This is a great find. Beautiful place with a fairly good menu at a reasonable price. Music just in the background so you can hear yourself speak.

First visit,of many I suspect , to this comfortable and quiet venue. Welcoming waitress and attention to all requirements.(some allergies).As a Starter, the Cullen Skink was excellent. The Roast Beef was done to choice, which was appreciated by my fellow diner, as was my Steak which despite my request for "well done" was full of flavour and juice.To finish, a delicious Sorbet (not on the Menu) was conjured up for my Dairy Free sufferer.She also commented that the Toilet facilities were absolutely spotless

We popped in for coffee and scones on a Saturday morning. The scones were good but the coffee was poor and not very hot. Was very surprised at the high cost as well.

We came here for the first time for High Tea and could not fault. The food was amazing and the staff were very polite and friendly. Cosey lay out perfect for all! Will definitely be back!!

For a nice family get together birthday treat go to The Grey Harlings. Very nice roomy restaurant, served by nice polite helpful kind waitresses. Every body enjoyed their meals (disappointed with the over kill of frozen vegetables) washed down with great house red wine. Especially loved my perfect round lemon cheesecake, just the right sized serving to finish of my meal. Delicious! I have been spreading how good it was. Have also been told some people have been going lately and they thoroughly enjoyed them shelves too. Our 7 year old daughter wants to go back. Good also hearing a private birthday party going on. Hearing the young girls singing to Abba was brilliant. Highly recommended The Grey Hardlings. Husband says lots of off shore workers speak highly of here too. We certainly will be coming back.

Really disappointed with our lunch today. Put our order in and 25 minutes later were told one of our starters wasn’t available and then the next choice wasn’t available either. When we eventually got our starters (an hour after arriving) my dads soup was cold and he had to wait 15 minutes for another one by which time we had all finished our starters. The 4 adults all ordered the roast beef, the veg and tatties were cold, beef was dry and my daughters pizza was microwaved and chewy and she didn’t get the beans as mentioned on the menu. Told all of this to the member of staff and was still charged full price. Very disappointed and doubtful we will return.

Really nice location on the edge of the golf course. Had a delicious sea bass with two Tennent’s. Very friendly staff

Grey Harlings had been recommended so we were anticipating a good experience. Our order was taken but diners who arrived after us were served first. They had finished their meals and we had still not been served. An hour and a quarter after we sat down another table who had arrived after us were served their starters, so we left. Polite waitress advised they were short staffed but if that is so you have to tell guests and let them decide if they want to wait 75 minutes or more.

The dining room itself is really nice and very different from the usual places to eat. I was delighted with the food, good value and really tasty.

The food we received was excellent and was good value for money. We had booked a very large group and everybody was happy with the quality of the food. The service was a bit slower than we would have liked but there were 29 in our group. It did not cause much of an issue. The staff were very welcoming and the whole building is well laid out. I will definitely go back.

After a very wet day at the Open Golf,Carnoustie it was time to return to our lodgings but a late arrival would have caused an inconvenience in their dining room so we opted to eat en route.

What a surprise when we tried Grey Harlings for the first time,,expecting it to be run of the mill, what a very cosy and comfortable place , The staff were very welcoming and friendly,,right beside the golf course,,A Realy good menu with a varied food to suit everyone,When our food came it was not short of a banquet ,,,very well presented, The cost is very reasonable,,a bit cheaper than the nearbye eating places, Well worth a visit..

Quite a restricted menu compared to other nearby restaurants.

We were staying in the House of Dun apartments and ate out at this restaurant in Montrose twice. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. We had the Salmon, Sole, Gammon and Haddock and all were cooked to perfection. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is also good value for money.

My husband and I popped in for lunch today and enjoyed the burgers we had. The reason I wanted to leave feedback was to comment on the friendliness of the staff. They were very attentive to our needs but also took the time to chat which added to our experience. Would be happy to visit again.

Went for a group lunch, nothing fancy just sandwiches and toasties which took 50 minutes to arrive then 1 lunch was missing, after waiting a further 10 minutes the missing lunch was brought out but it was the wrong order!! After another 10 minutes (by this time everyone else was almost finished eating) another plate of food was delivered to the table only to be the wrong order once again. The waitress was told not to bother as everyone else in the party was finished, the owner finally came over and apologised making a lame excuse but I'm afraid that was too little too late. We were so disappointed we left without cuppys and dessert and it was a trip to the local shop for a sandwich to make up for the missing lunch! Needless to say none of our large party will be returning.

We were so looking forward to celebrating my Wife's birthday by trying Grey Harlings Restaurant for the first time after some good comments from friends, but we left very disappointed.

pleasantly surprised at this quirky and interesting place - friendly and food was reasonably priced and tasty. liked being able to have something at any time of the afternoon rather than strict lunch times

What a wee gem of a place, nice, clean accommodation with a lovely view. The rooms are modern but not boutiquie clean and comfy. A shout goes out to the staff who are helpful if needed and very friendly and welcoming, and finally the food, good honest food, plenty of it and well cooked. What more can you ask for?

Stayed here for six days and could not fault anything. Great staff, rooms and food. If in Montrose again I would not hesitate to stay again.

We went for lunch today. We had the fish n chips , which was great and a good portion. We also had 2 little pots of tea . We were very surprised when got the bill . The 2 little pots of tea were £8.80 and fish n chips were £6.95 . So do not get little pots of tea .

Taken to Grey Harlings by my wife for my birthday. Been recommended by others. Nice place. Service was good. Food was excellent. My wife had the steak, and she thought it was on par with Marco Pierre White's Steakhouse in Glasgow. High praise indeed..

Booked for party of 22,all ages,no problem,we had some vegetarians and also a vegan,again no problem,we arrived about half an hour before the meal which we had selected after we picked up a menu and made our choice in the afternoon which helped the staff prepare. Visited greyharlings on Friday past for Aunty morags 89th birthday and can only give the resteraunt ten out of ten . The welcome was warm and the meals were excellent service couldn’t fault eighty year olds don’t eat full meals this wasn’t a problem changed the menu to suit which was ideal . Won’t hesitate to visit again

Went as a party of 6 most of us had three courses. Starters tasteless, mains basic but not done well. Greasy, no dressing on salad. Dessert ok. Wouldn’t go back

Very very nice evening spent dining with friends, food delicious, starter of grilled figs was amazing and just the right amount. Lasagne looked fab but was a little on the dry side, still tasty though but would have preferred more sauce. Desserts were all beautifully presented, I had the cheesecake which was fantastic.

I was staying at the guest house and decided to eat dinner their for convenience. I’m glad I did. The service was great, very friendly with the right amount of attention. The food came out quickly and was well cooked and fresh. I had breakfast the following morning and again couldn’t have been happier. The owner said she was aiming for a homely atmosphere and she has achieved that. Well done, it’s not easy these days to provide quality at reasonable prices but they are doing it. Incidentally for tourists the view over the golf course to the beach and sea is stunning.

Lovely welcome,lovely setting,lovely meal.Table of 10,with 2 ex chefs(always hard to please)but not a problem with anything,excellent drinks choice . All the meals were wonderful .I will be back again . Barry the Manager and Linda the owner thank you both for a warm and friendly afternoon.

Visited Grey Harlings on 1st Dec with my friends and work colleagues. What an amazing venue.Lovely old building.Renovated sympathetically. On arrival we were served drinks in the lovely wooden panelled room with a large stone fireplace with a roaring fire and beautiful Christmas tree. Really put us in the Christmas spirit.

Superb place to have something for lunch and evening meal. You a very well looked after and the staff are really nice and helpful and the owners 're really nice as well.
