The Creel in Argyll & Bute

Battered scallops, calamari and a crab sandwich. All delicious. Turned a soggy day into a treat. I love seafood but this place is really special and I would recommend a detour to visit.

All good sized portions, fresh & delicious, well cooked & presented Recommend Sandwiches: prawn sandwich, crab sandwich, fresh, full of filling & not a bit of shell. Wonderful treat of lobster and chips. Really tasty. Highly recommend a visit here. To note they only take cash unless you are booking ferry tickets too in which case they can use ferry companies card machine. There is a shop and cash machine at the top of the hill. And they don't serve hot food until 12.30pm. It's pay for parking when you're there but it's very cheap.

Great location and the food is spot on! We had fish and chips and scallops and chips and they were outstanding. My only feedback is to keep social media updated so people know if the shack is actually open. We travelled an hour and a half and took a risk as the weather had been a bit iffy. We sent a WhatsApp message when we set off and didn't get a response until we arrived. Definitely worth a visit though

Exceptionally fast service - well priced, fresh and delicious food. We ate at the benches next to the shack. Plenty of parking either pay and display or the free parking a few minutes walk away. You pass the shack as soon as you get off the ferry to Iona.

We stopped here for some lunch after a trip to Staffa. We ordered the scallops and the lobster… wow! So fresh and tasty. We also got to see the fisherman deliver the catch for the day. A must if you’re passing!

Visited last year while on holiday and we just had to come back again this year! This time we had the battered langoustines and the squid, both of which were amazing and cooked to perfection!! Highly recommend the Creel

So, I’m vegan so visiting a seafood shack isn’t usually something I’d do, but I was hungry after returning from a boat trip so I ordered chips … and they were great chips! Shared them with a passing starling on the picnic tables next to shack, he liked them too 😂

Love this little seafood bar, right beside the pier and full of fresh shellfish, sandwhiches and a great variety of dinner choices too 😋😋

Fish and chips delivered to campsite in evening exactly on time. Excellent food. Really tasty fish, fishcakes were full of flavour.

Absolutely delighted to find this fabulous seafood “shack” serving fresh, beautifully presented seafood. There is a great choice and we enjoyed something every day of our holiday. Finished with an amazing and huge platter. Highly recommend and the chips are wicked too

We visited during Easter weekend, and the fish and chips from this place was simply the best we've ever had. It was exactly what we needed after returning to Mull from our day trip to the Isle of Iona. The seafood bar is conveniently located right at the Fionnphort ferry terminal. We took our dinner to go and enjoyed it at Fidden Campsite, where we were staying in our campervan. The view from our van made for the perfect evening setting to enjoy our incredibly fresh and delicious fish and chips. The staff at The Creel Seafood Bar were also very polite and happy, which made our experience even better!! I highly recommend visiting / adding this place to your Isle of Mull / Iona itinerary. We cannot wait to return again soon!!

What a place, the food is stunning and the views with it. We sampled the fish & chips, scampi & chips and scallops & chips, all were excellent. We'll definitely be back, next time we're in Fionnphort.

Came off ferry from Iona and bought two packs of Crab Sandwiches from The Creel. Had them for our lunch. Sublime. One of the best ever tasted and I have sampled a few. Really wish I could pop back for more. Delicious and more.

A return visit to The Creel Seafood Bar and the trip was planned this! We again purchased a seafood platter to eat in our motorhome and it was absolutely stunning in every way! The freshest and most beautifully cooked seafood we have ever eaten! The staff are so kind, helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We are returning end of May where we will purchase the seafood platter again! Thank you so much beautiful ladies!

Amazing little place! We both had fish n chips and then shared a side of chilli squid - all delicious and served very quickly. We even managed to sit outside in the first dry weather all holiday! I had WhatsApp’d earlier in the day to check opening times (as weather had been pretty awful) - got an immediate response. Thanks - will definitely be back next time on Mull!

Had very high hopes for this, but unfortunately felt disappointed. The lobster was a bit dry and chewy, as though it had been overcooked. the chips we're good and portion size good. the lobster should have had garlic butter. If it did, there was so little that I could not taste it. The Scampi was very good.

Literally, the best seafood and chips shack you'll ever visit in your life. I had langoustines and chips, my wife lobster and chips and our kids had muscles and scampi. A treat.

The most amazing fish and chips! We’d read reviews but didn’t quite believe it would be this good. The battered scallops and langoustines were some of the best we have ever had. Even the chips were so much better than some other chips we have had! So worth the trip!

Fresh seafood by the sea in the rain, perfect! We tried the haddock and chips with curry sauce. It was a great portion of comfort food. Really enjoyed our visit.

We stumbled across this whilst using the ferry. What a lovely find. We enjoyed scallops and scampi- all freshly cooked to order. The seating area is quite basic but a great spot to people watch from - all reasonably priced.

There wasn't many options when we were there for lunch but we got battered scallops and chips, scallop and black pudding roll and some sandwiches. All really tasty and cooked fresh in front of you. The staff are really friendly.Located really well beside the Iona port. There are only two picnic benches but wasn't an issue for us, was really hot so we just ate in the car :)

We had fish and chips this afternoon after getting off the ferry from Iona. Our food was freshly cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed it, sitting on one of the picnic benches at the side of the hut, The girls who served us were extremely polite, friendly and well mannered.

We were staying nearby and advised to try The Creel- I telephoned the day before to pre order a seafood platter- absolutely brilliant- very friendly and helpful staff and great food- lovely deck to enjoy the view, the food and a cool beer.

The Creel Seafood Bar is only a small hut selling food and drink through a hatch. It is positioned close to the entry/exit to the ferry and overlooking Iona. The hot menu was unsurprising seafood based but they do also sell sandwiches and warm drinks. I chose the fish and chips for £10. They did taste really great. There is also a small seating area to the side of the seafood bar but if that’s full there are plenty of places to wander to nearby and enjoy your meal with a terrific view.

Had heard good reviews about the Creel and was looking forward to some seafood. Unfortunately, after visiting Iona and arriving back at the Creel at 1450, we were told that they had no seafood - not even fish and chips?. Only food available was sausages, burgers and reduced sandwiches Very disappointed, gave them 2 stars for being open

Third visit here and never disappointed, staff are friendly and really helpful! Had a huge lobster here and it was amazing. Really great value for money too.

Thanks to Covid some of the regular items of seafood aren't available at the moment, but after a lovely day on Iona it's a treat to have the freshest fish and chips and sit and admire the Fionnphort beach and beyond- delicious!

We had been on a day trip to Iona and Staffa and stumbled across this place on the way back to the car. As Mull is super limited on restaurants unless you’re in Tobermory we decided to stop and I’m so glad we did. Had take a way fish and chips and it was so tasty. Not too much batter and skin on chips, def recommend

A long weekend on the Isle of Mull turned into a gourmet getaway at The Creel. We loved it! I’ve never had battered scallops before and they were gorgeous. Each night was a roll of scallops and Stornaway black pudding with a side order of battered scallops: I couldn’t resist!

This is a little, modest wooden shack in Fionnphort on the isle of Mull, where from ferries go to Iona, that serves delicious and fresh seafood. Much better (and more expensive) than those offered in the café next to the ticket office. Decide for yourself.

I had read about this little place and it more than lived up to my expectations. We both had the black pudding and scallop roll en route to Iona and it was so good we had to have another on our road back . Not sure what the rest of the food was like but we wouldn't go past this speciality !!!!

Rang them midday to check open and closing time.Was told yes open till about 1500..Arrived after a long drive at 1345 and they where closed.Not impressed.

Staying near Fionnphort for a week we visited The Creel several times and found it a great asset. It was good to be able to buy fresh, tasty and quality seafood and sandwiches daily, at a reasonable price from friendly and cheery people. The area is truly wonderful but not well served for places to eat, without going some distance, so this was an excellent find. We wish them well.

I’m lucky enough to go here every other day for my lunch break, not being a massive fan of seafood yet I absolutely love the fish cakes here, the girls also got me to try battered scampi 1 day and oh my the best scampi I’ve ever had the girls are friendly, polite and accommodating! Definitely worth a visit if your visiting mull it even if your lucky enough to live here. Quality food and banter

Made a long journey to sample the menu as had heard so much about it to be greeted with a pretty poor reduced menu. We had to ask what was still available as the menu board did not reflect was was actually available. We ordered and then upon reflection, and being told by the girl in the booth that she was operating with one fryer (apparently it wasn’t busy enough for 2 fryers despite a lengthy queue of people standing in the pouring rain) and on her own, we decided to cut our losses and get our money back. It was pretty evident that our food hadn’t even reached the fryer despite having stood for 15 minutes already. Terrible experience and terrible customer service.

Second time I've bought the smoked salmon. You'll pay a little more, but the food is fresh and delicious. You can tell it's not been out the sea long. Staff are so friendly too. Also, order crab claws, great fun :)

The Creel is an amazing casual seafood bar right next to the Iona ferry. Picnic tables are available.

The choice is a little less than in other places but it’s in a good spot and very handy if you are waiting for or just come off a ferry. The food is fresh and well prepared. They do a good range of sandwiches which is perfect if you want to grab something to take on the ferry with you or onto the bus.

Banging chips, lovely location (sheltered from wind) wonderful staff. Ideal for when peckish awaiting the ferry.

Located in an amazing setting, the Creel Seafood Bar is a little Mull gem.

This little shack with a couple of outdoor tables sits adjacent to the Iona ferry ramp. If you get back early and have a few minutes before your bus out, don't miss the scallops and chips. They must have just caught them. The water is so clean and fresh, the scallops have a marvelous taste of the sea. Just marvelous!

We came here for lunch on a sunny afternoon and sat outside (there is no inside) a It’s a small shed just next to the ferry crossing from Fionnphort to Iona. We had the fish and chips which was great. The following day we bought some sandwiches (prawn and salmon) for a picnic during a walk along the coast.

I had fish and chips after an afternoon boat trip to visit Staffa Island. The fish was just lightly coated in a lemon and herb super-thin batter. Hot, fresh and utterly delicious.

Having been disappointed by the crab salad last time we were in Mull (small portion of crab and uninteresting salad) I opted for fish and chips and was very glad I did. The chips were home-made and were fried to a deep brown - twice fried? - and the fish was in a lovely light batter and was delicious. Fried to order so hot and fresh. I know what I'm having next time if they're on the menu - battered scallops!

Had lovely fish and chips and Cullen skink sat outside overlooking harbour - freshest fish - (+not your usual chippy batter )and potato wedge chips - really tasty and huge portions. Cullen skink tasty but just not very hot . Prices reasonable so overall great little place

We had 1 Scallop and Black pudding roll and one fish & chips. All the food was delicious and the lady was very nice.

Fresh seafood including Scallops. Amazing views over Iona. What more could one want! The staff were friendly and there is an outdoor seating area which will be brilliant in the summer. Would highly recommend to anyone when visiting Mull, the single track road out to Fionnport is worth it!

We pre ordered the seafood platter as a take out two days during our stay. Both times the food was ready at the agreed collection time. The sea food was stunning, including prawns, lobster, smoked salmon, salmon pate and crab. A large portion for two people, costing £25.00.

I ordered a vast array of the finest seafood available, freshly caught in the beautiful crystal clear waters around Mull & Iona. This is a seafood lovers dream. Feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this place and can't wait to go back.

I ate at this place twice as the staff were lovely and the food excellent. It is attached to a pub where we waited for a table. Service was very good when I ate alone and with my husband. Huge portions, lots of choice and daily specials. People in the pub were friendly-many from the local B&B;'s and campgrounds.

A lovely location; everything freshly cooked and whatever you may feel about battered scallops and chips, you just HAVE to try them! Amazing!

Seafood couldn't be fresher, and for such a small bar there is an excellent selection. I chose the cullen skink and battered scallops which were delicious and great value for money. The location is perfect for a quick bite before a ferry to Iona or Staffa, and the seafood was some of the best I have tasted.

After the excellence of the Oban fish shacks I was greatly relieved to find that standards were as high in Fionnphort. We were in search of the missing seafood experience and here it was; the smoked kipper in a box cooked just in time for us to catch the ferry to Iona. The ferry journey took on a whole new joy as we stripped out the meat from the bones with our fingers and ate deliriously with a slice of bread! Maybe some people would like to ask for a fork?

We visited the Creel three times during our recent holiday to Mull, though it would have been more if the kids had their way! We had fish and chips, scampi and chips and battered scallops, all of which were delicious, and so good to get proper home made chips too with the skins on. We were lucky enough to have sunshine the first two visits, but the heavens opened for the last one. However even torrential rain and trying to fit five of us under a golf umbrella didn't spoil the food or experience. The cherry on the cake though is the fantastic young woman bagpiper who plays for the ferry arriving from Iona. All in all, a brilliant place, first class service and excellent food.

We travel to the very bottom of Mull for three things. Ninth Wave Restaurant which is truly superb. Fidden Farm which has just the most stunning beach with white sand and clear turquoise water and The Creel Seafood Bar which does the most amazing Cullen Skink. When we arrived they had no haddock and consequently no soup!!! We returned the following day and fortunately haddock was abundant and two large cartons of Cullen were snapped up. Large chunks of haddock, shredded leek and chunks of new potato in their skins all in the the tastiest cream broth- well worth the journey. Absolutely delicious.

For my taste, this was the best fish & chips that I had travelling in Scotland! The piece of haddock was large, flavorful, and moist, and the batter was a work of art. It was light and crisp and did not overpower the fish. The chips were great - hand-cut with the skin on and were cooked just right. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was quick.

Arrived into Fionnphort to catch the ferry across to Iona. Needed a coffee and a quick bite to eat. Tried the scallop and lamb kebabs washed down with two fresh oysters.

It had been a somewhat choppy trip across the sea to Staffa and so I sat in the car for a while, outside the Calmac office at Fionnphort, soaking up the view across to Iona and allowing the balance of my body to restore. To my left is a view of the emerald green Sound, and to my right is a tiny takeaway hut. Alongside it are wooden picnic tables and blackboards listing their menu including prawn pots, crab sandwiches, and locally smoked kippers. Each table is occupied by happy-faced diners and I’m tempted. Besides, it’s been a long time since breakfast.
