Had the most wonderful meal at Number 42. Main meals were fish and chips and Sea bass. Both delicious with good sized portions and presentation. Staff very attentive. Order taken within 10-15 mins. While waiting home made bread and butter brought to the table. Food served 15 mins from order. Amazing choice of sweets. Had the chocolate brownie and affogato. Warm and comfortable and well attended to during our visit. Would highly recommend

We've come here twice already and tried 11 menu items so far, including 3 desserts (don't judge, we're on our honeymoon). Each one of them was absolute perfection. The flavors, the cook, etc. I really have nothing bad to say about the food here. Highlights include: the dover sole and the whole lobster. Both were wonderful. Stayed for a few days in Campbeltown and popped in on the off chance we could get a table. Mainly sea food restaurant but some meat and pasta dishes on menu. Not a massive menu but plenty choices. Food was fabulous, one of the best sea food restaurants we have tried. Service was also great with water and bread quickly brought to table. Good prices, well worth it in food quality, if it was closer to home would go every day.

I ordered Queenies. As an appetizer they cost £10 for four. The server asked if I wanted them as a meal for £20. I said yes but 8 clams is not a meal. They should have come with at least one side of vegetable and/or some rice or pasta. I left hungry. My husband had the cod with linguine which was generous and tasted very good. Fish and chips were also a good portion. But they were out of scallops as an appetizer and offered squat lobster instead, which had very little meat on them so it is a good thing the couple could share the fish and chips.

Know it's good when homemade bread is served warm and toasted with homemade butter too. Wonderful experience! I had the haggis spring roll, which was splendid. The fish curry was also very delicious with generous portions of fish and seafood. The rice was adequate but I personally didn't like the texture; perhaps it could have been paired better with a different type of sticky rice. Most importantly, I had a dram of the Springbank 13 local barley, which was outstanding. Overall, a must visit place for every traveller to Campbeltown. Thank you!

We came across Number 42 by accident, just looking for a decent lunch. The welcome we received was delightful, then when we checked out the menu it was a real surprise. Lots of really interesting dishes. As we were there for lunch we combined a couple of starters with some really great chips to make a perfect sized lunch. As visitors to the west coast decided to sample the Cullen skink, frankly awesome. Followed by mussels, coming from Conwy always a bit dubious about mussels elsewhere particularly out of season in June however, can’t recommend the curried mussels enough, a major taste sensation. Bear prepared big fat mussels, and the starter portion was generous to say the least. Missed out on pudding as the chef had gone home, but the choices looked really fascinating. Our service was great, really friendly and super helpful. All in all a real treat.

We came to this restaurant on a recommendation from the internet. Place is in the city center. Easy to get to. Inside is normal, nothing special. Quite expensive compared to other places in the area. First courses are very small. What they write on the wall, high, almost on the ceiling, there is no regular menu except for drink lists. It is not convenient to constantly look at the wall. Nice staff. You need to reserve a place in advance. Very ordinary food. Steak meat was delicious. I do not recommend soups, not tasty.

We've been meaning to visit Number Forty Two for a while, but finally made it last weekend for my husband's birthday. We were not disappointed as the food was superb. For starters we had the seared scallops and the haggis spring roll, both of which were beautifully presented with appropriate sauces and garnishes. For mains, I had the venison and my husband the feather blade of beef special, both accompanied by green vegetables, perfectly smooth horseradish mash (which was not too strongly flavored) and some really nice sticky red cabbage. We don't usually bother much with desserts but were intrigued by "When life gives you lemons..." which turned out to be a wonderful selection of lemon treats e.g. some sorbet, tart, drizzle cake, panna cotta and frozen limoncello. The affogato was also excellent - though I didn't do it full justice as I prefer to enjoy the components separately rather than pour the coffee over the ice cream. It was relatively expensive i.e. closer to typical Glasgow city centre prices than the norm for Campbeltown, but we thought it was well worth it for a special meal out, given the very high quality. We will be back, and look forward to trying some of the seafood on our next visit.

A very poor and embarrassing experience at no42. Two friends visiting Campbeltown and I out for dinner on a Friday evening. Two of us ordered Duck which was served so rare it was inedible. Certainly could not cut through it. Vegetables etc were fine. Fish and chips were lovely. The sweet option on the night was “When life throws you lemons”, which was a selection of four mini sweets which included a sorbet which was the only item that had lemon in it. The rest looked lovely but we’re bland. Did receive an apology from waitress who was lovely if stressed. Appeared to be under staffed for restaurant guests.

From the moment you step into Number 52 the promise of freshness is evident. Their claim to serve very fresh fish. The meticulous attention to quality is notable, from the expertly sliced tuna sashimi that melts in your mouth to the robust flavors of the prawns, salmon, and langoustine that are cooked to perfection. Their garlic butter is an aromatic delight that enhances each dish without overpowering it. If you're in search of a dining experience where the spices and ingredients harmonize in a symphony of flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit. Odd experience for the “best fresh seafood “ restaurant in Campbeltown. May have been a Monday staffing issue for lack of experienced staff. Waited forever… for everything. Staff not fully engaged at creating nice dining experience for customers. So sad !

Food was nice, however survice was slow and the staff member serving us seemed really upset which was quite off-putting in the end. Was difficult to get her attention and we weren't asked if we wanted any drinks after the first one. So we bought less than we would have done

Can't say enough good things about Number 42 -- the food here rivals the top restaurants in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and offers local specialties such as oysters and halibut from Gigha and mussels from Mull. Seafood platter was first rate, and the seafood curry was superb, reminiscent of a Thai curry generously flavoured with kaffir lime leaves. Only regret is that we didn't return for brunch but will be sure to do so on our next visit. PS - bookings essential for both dinner and brunch.

La comida no es lo suficientemente buena como para pensar que vale la pena esperar un

Just been announced that it is now permanently closed. The owners’ other 2 restaurants, a pizzeria and a tapas restaurant, are still open along the front.
