The world famous Anselmos. If you visit Dunoon you must get a chippy from here you won't be disappointed.

Phoned order for collection small wait on arrival. Shop is a very old fashioned but clean. Excellent customer service. Food was hot and tasted good. Big portion size. Parking is a bit restricted near shop so be prepared to park elsewhere and walk if busy.

What can I say. We have been to Dunoon twice on holiday and both times had fish and chips from these guys. Quite simply the best I have had. Chips are great but the fish is always fresh and the batter is lovely. You get small or large, in a large portion, you get 2 full fish. Quick and friendly service too, even though it is always busy. 10/10

An exellent fish and chip shop. Superb service delivery and from shop. I only wish they would leave a telephone message when they are closed. The web site said open we phoned constantly for 40 minutes - no answer. Gave up. No meal!

My partner and I have just made our yearly pilgrimage to Dunoon, and the ultimate highlight is always fish and chips from the lovely Marco and Giulia at Anselmo’s. Incredible! I've not written a TripAdvisor review for years but felt I had to. I was over in Dunoon for a festival at end of May. I ordered a couple of single fish for me and my partner. Wow, the fish was easily the best bit of fish I've tasted in years. The batter was golden and crunchy, and the fish tasted like chip shop fish used to taste. If you're ever in Dunoon, give it a go.

Excellent food. We loved this local cuisine. We had the fish and chips, smoked sausage, mashed peas and a pickled egg & onion ( the egg and onion were recommended by a local waiting in line with us). Everything was delicious and very generous portions. Everyone at Anselmos was very friendly and very social. We ate here twice. You have to try Anselmos, you will not be disappointed.

Cracking Chippy in Dunoon. Stayed at Hunters Quay for a week, and went here first night. Really friendly staff, had s nice chat with the boss, who knows his stuff. Told me he does the frying that traditional Italian way... he wasn't kidding. The batter still had a crunch right til the end, almost 40mins later, i had to drive back to the lodge. The Haddock was really tasty, not a skimpy portion, well worth the price. It was so good, I went back on my last night and it was just as good. I will definitely go here anytime I am in Dunoon.

Went to Anselmos the other week and bought two single fish and two suppers for my wife and I and two cans of coke. Decent fish! Bit greasy according to my wife but I really enjoyed mine, kids liked their singles as well. We normally just go to Queens Street on fish night but we wanted tae try something different, this place was just across from the kids primary school and it was great! Chips where nice and thick and fish had lots of flavour! We will be back😀

Coming through from the home of the award winning chippy (Anster) to find this place was a stroke of luck! What a chippy, great food (huge portions), reasonably priced and the staff welcome and greet you like family. Definitely not drive past if we are back through this way.

Absolutely shocking service, mainly from the owner himself, staff treated like a bit of dirt on his shoe, can't stand people who can't treat employees correctly. Owner/head chef never smiles and he's constantly moaning about energy prices and fish prices.. Yes everyone is aware of the cost of living crisis, we are all suffering but god we don't need to hear it from you when we're giving your business a small fortune for a bit of over done fish and 22 chips!

This is now our local chip shop. Portions are generous. Husband loves the scampi. Staff friendly too. Always a queue but that is because it is so popular.

Tasty enough but how the hell they justify the prices is beyond me apart from greed like,£13 odd for fish n chips and a carton of curry scandalous even in today's tough climate

Great food and usually a bit of banter. Some characters frequent this chippy so you're sure to be entertained. The haggis bites are unreal!! Large portions, fresh fish. Canny beat it. Get it inta yee! The couple who own the place have just had a wee baby so congratulations guys!!

Looked up local chip shop and we found this , staff lovely , owner lovely friendly and was happy enough to answer my questions . I ordered Fish and Fritters for my husband and I had a steak pie and mushy peas , it cannot be faulted , and whilst there I asked what some of the things were in the grill and it was pointed out Chicken strips and also crunchy mushrooms , well we just had to go back the next night to try this and we both loved the chicken strips and the mushrooms Honestly it’s our first stop when we go back next March , and anyone in the area should try this 😊😊😊

For the prices they charge here, you get a lot of food. Living in Aberdeen, we’re used to paying more for less. So made a note to ourselves to not order quite as much next time 😂 The “small” haddock was huge, and I got, not just half, but a whole smoked sausage! I have fond memories of Anselmo’s from childhood and I’m glad to see that it has barely changed in the many years since I was last in. Just a shame the suppers no longer come wrapped in newspaper, but that’s the way of the world now I guess.

The staff are so pleasant and friendly and the food is absolutely beautiful. The management are so lovely and so friendly too and have amazing customer service skills😊

We had the most amazing fish&chips there! Also the mozzarella sticks and onion rings are fantastic!! Definitely worth a visit, the staff is very kind and friendly and you will really get what you’ve paid for. Hope we‘ll make it back to Dunoon one day and if it‘s just for enjoying these delicious meals again.

The best fish and chips I have ever had.

Bought 3 fish suppers Monday 20th June. Assumed that due to wait things were cooked to order. However, this was clearly not the case as chips tasted like reheats and fish was soggy and greasy. Was looking forward to it but we all thought it was disappointing and didn't enjoy at all. Won't be back.

Placed order. Fish and chicken. Both reheats chicken tough dogs got it. For £14 very disappointed. Not going back.

After reading through lots of reviews for chip shops in the Dunoon area we decided this had the best reviews. There was quite a queue for early tea time on Friday, so we took this to be a good sign, and the staff seemed to know some of the customers quite well, which we took to be another good sign. We ordered two large cod and chips and patiently waited, it was busy, but it still felt like quite a good while. While waiting I took photos of the menu to send back to the family so that they could order what they wanted us to take back with us. We got our order and sat in the car to eat it. On first glance we were happy with our meals, unfortunately it went downhill from there. The batter was too thick and so rather more like a pancake than a crispy fish batter and the cod, although very white, was rather dry and the chips a little under done for our tastes. Then I started finding bones in my fish, I know that can’t be helped, but it completely put me off eating any more. We went back in to order the next batch, a fish supper, which was voted as “ok”, large sausage chips and gravy which was ok although we weren’t asked if we wanted it battered or not, so it arrived battered, and scampi chips and peas, which on opening (back at the house) turned out to be scampi chips and CHEESE! I can only put that down to the language barrier, but really? Cheese on scampi?! And the scampi wasn’t even a nice crisp fresh scampi either. So no, not for us at all I’m afraid. The staff were lovely, friendly and chatty, the redeeming point.

Best Fish and Chips I've had across three continents!

I ate there many times, many years ago, while stationed at the Loch on a Submarine. Being from the Texas gulf coast and currently residing in Florida, I'm picky about any seafood. But The food was always delicious, not to mention it was my first exposure to Haggis! It's great to still see the shop up and running 3 decades later. Speaks volumes about Anselmo's.

Wow! Best Fish n Chips we’ve had in a very very long time . Finding ourselves hungry on a miserably wet day in Dunoon after a fabulous week exploring the Cowal Peninsula we took the advice of our rented Cottage owner and tried thIs place before ferry home. Batter seasoned to perfection . Fish perfectly cooked and chips to die for . If you’re in the area do not miss Anselmos . Owner and staff so welcoming and he’s also a petrol head so we had a good chat about cars .😀. We will hurry back.

Best Fish and Chip shop in Dunoon!

I was in the Navy stationed in Holy Loch in '80 and '81, and we lived above the Victoria Bar right across the street from Anselmo's. They weren't the only chip shop in Dunoon, but by far the best. As I recall is was 90p for a single fish and chips. My wife made friends with a woman who worked there named Isaac, and would sometimes sell her ground beef from the Navy commissary. A big no-no! But in return, whenever we ordered a single, we usually got an extra half piece. As I sit here 41 years later I am getting hungry thinking just how good it tasted. If ever I am back in Scotland, I will visit Anselmo's for sure. (This review didn't give me option to put in the actual dates we ate there, so I picked the oldest from the drop down). In the two years we lived in Dunoon we ate at Anselmo's dozens of times.

We went to Kilmun yesterday to visit my wife's parent's grave. We decided to go to Anselmo's on the way back to the ferry. It's been a few years since we've been. The fish supper was fantastic, very crispy batter, lovely flaky fish and the chips were also great. Our favourite fish supper was in Ullapool not now fantastic.

Went to Dunoon for a wee staycation and my sister was craving a chippy one lunchtime. I'd remembered Anselmos was always one of the best from years ago and lucky for us it did open for an hour at lunchtime. We had mini fish suppers which were large portions albeit one fish instead of two, but certainly plenty for us. The cod was so white and tender and chips so chunky and golden, best we have had ever. Highly recommended.

Excellent fish and chips, cooked to perfection and served in a convenient box - great for eating in the car by the seafront. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff, with the most wonderful Italian/Scottish accents. Thoroughly recommended.

Outstanding fish and chips! Having visited many seaside resorts, I can honestly say, the best I've had on years. Not too greasy and a very manageable portion size. I like salt and vinegar on my chips but not the fish as it makes the batter soggy - not a problem here and all fresh, hot and delicious. We'll worth a visit.
