Such a cozy and welcoming cafe. I love the decoration and ambience, the staff are really lovely, and the food is divine. Definitely worth a visit when in York!!
I’m not quite sure what had happened but it seemed like there had been a meltdown at the place so possibly this is a one off?
Waiter was very lovely and trying his best but something had clearly gone wrong. We waited 20 minutes for our food and drink order to be taken. Another 30 minutes waiting for the drink to arrive, it never did so we went to the bar to ask for them. Another 45 minutes after that the food still hadn’t arrived, no food had come out of the kitchen for any table in the past hour at this point. The table next to us had their food come out having arrived 45 minutes after us. We asked if our order was coming and they said they had lost the ticket. (Bear in mind when we ordered we were the only ones in the place)
At this point we had a tour booked on the evening we needed to get too. So after 1 hour and a half spent sat down, we decided to leave, we asked if the pint and Pepsi could be on the house for the time we had wasted and never getting any food, however, this request was denied.
Really disappointed by what had seemed a good place to visit based on reputation.
Small and quaint lil restaurant, atmosphere was luvly and wine menu extensive. We got the mixed grill platter, and the value was great both of us left feeling very full and spent less than £20 each.
We wanted to try somewhere we'd not been to before, and I'd been recommended to try The Bluebell. We weren't dispappointed - the Sunday lunch was great, our party of four had a mixture of meat and fish mains, all very tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly, lovely gravy, plenty of it.
The sweets were incredible - sticky toffee pudding, warm chocolate fudge cake and warm mulled black cherries all eaten and enjoyed. Bill for 4 including drinks a very reasonable £128.
Service very friendly and efficient, the staff were lovely. The only downside was the room we were in was fairly quiet, a little lacking in atmosphere, as the main areas were busy with a christening party. But a venue to which we will definitely return!
It's an amazing place to go if you're a meat eater.plenty of food comes out, and it's a very nice buffet to get all of your sides.
Staff are very polite and helpful. It's a must visit place and I will be returning.
