Merchants Coffee House in York

Called for breakfast just as it opened. Very nice simple cafe. I think we were too early as the choice was limited so settled for toasted teacakes rather than cakes. Suspect they were prepping for lunch, which from the menu, looked excellent abd good value

We only had tea and cakes, but they were excellent quality and nicely presented by friendly, polite team member. Good selection of cakes and light meals available.

Staff were lovely and very apologetic however inability to serve food due to problems in the kitchen meant we were unable to get lunch this afternoon and forced to look elsewhere which was extremely disappointing given the promising atmosphere

Attended the charity Beer festival today. Had a great afternoon, well organised and a lovely atmosphere. But I think you are under selling your self's £4 is to cheep. That is well worth a tenner of anyone's money. Ps loved the entertainment.... Attended for the second time and again a wonderful time. The sun was shining and the atmosphere was good, very nice and easy going. The choice of drinks I think was even better than last year. Again we got a free glass and drinks menu so you can easily decide what to try next. And at £7 a more realistic price for a lovely afternoon. Very well done to all involved

A really pleasant stop for coffee and lunch. My cheese and chutney sandwich was excellent, as was my wife's cheese scone. I would definitely recommend.

Delicious quiche and salad for brunch served with a cappuccino in the beautiful garden. A definite must do if you are in the York area:

Entrance wasn't too obvious from Parliament Street, but once inside the atmosphere was friendly. The ticket desk assistant was pleasant and helpful, and there is a choice of audio guides or printed leaflets. There is a mass on historical information set out, and the paper guides are very helpful.

My kid is meeting a friend on York. This coffee shop is just opposite Primark and part of an old Merchant's Hall. Plus they know how to make machiato. And decent Bakewell slice. What's not to like?

Beautiful coffee and cake, and lovely staff. The coffee house itself is beautiful with tudor style woodwork.

Very nice food and a quick service

We were looking for a dog friendly place to have a coffee and decided to give this place a try! We came in and were warmly welcomed by the staff. They made a fuss of our little dog!! It wasn’t that busy and picked a table with space around. The lovely lady gave our dog a water bowl and subsequently another waitress gave her some ham as a treat! She loved the attention! We ordered coffees and a cake and it came very quickly. It’s a really inviting place to come for a rest and refreshment, and we will definitely be back for cream teas as the fruit scones looked delicious!

Absolutely fabulous place to dine. The staff were very attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. There is limited seating during the winter months, but during the warmer weather, it's pleasant to sit in the gardens. The cream tea is very reasonable and about half the price of overpriced Betty's tea room.

Fresh tasty food & drinks at a good prices

Great flapjack but awful coffee. Didn't think anyone served coffee like this anymore. Flapjack was probably the best I've ever had. Also wife's lemon drizzle cake was good too.

It was a little busy, but a nice cafe with nice food

Visited today beautiful building and gardens, had two cream teas that were very nice.The staff were absolutely wonderful it was my partners Birthday and they bought over a complimentary slice of delicious carrot cake with a candle in. He was thrilled.Thank you.

A super surprise. Absolutely delicious sandwiches in wonderfully soft bread with a tasty crust, served with a salad garnish and crisps. Definitely worth going to.

Welcoming staff, nice small cafe, in the centre of York. Ideal for taking a break from shopping, or before getting on a bus. Inside the Merchant Adventurers Hall, which is also worth visiting, also the little gift shop.

Very disappointed service very slow and coffee was horrible

My partner and myself went for coffee and home made scone. This was a very pleasant experience and made our day. Both the food and coffee were excellent and I cannot speak highly enough about the staff. Helpful pleasant and very cheerful.

Decided to try the coffee house,York was especially busy. It's a secluded haven below street level and the hussle and hussle. Was politely greeted and table was cleared. Table was cleaned and We were seated. Table service. Ordered a cream tea with Coffee,2 Fetamans pink lemonades. Fast and polite service. Extremely clean and amazing toilets. Came to about £11.50 which is pretty good value in my eyes. Would visit again if the weather's right. Recommended.
