The Golden Horse in York

Disappointing. Instead of an umami rich gravy, the chow mein noodles had the taste of chicken supernoodle soup base. And the garlic and chilli beef was a generic sweet and sour dish with just a slight chilli hit. There's nothing so sad as a bad takeaway!

In my opinion... It's the best Chinese takeaway in York, if you like food with less grease 👍🏻

This was the best Chinese Takeaway I have had in YEARS! The satay chicken was delicious!! I just need to move them closer to where I actually live so I can eat tastier food more often…. 😍

Not the best this time around. Used to quite enjoy going here, but not so much anymore. Prawn crackers seem alot thinner, and the meal a bit rushed in the wok.

The Golden Horse is quite frankly the best Chinese Takeaway in York… I’ve tried a lot of them, the food is like no other. Quality is amazing, service is incredibly fast, food order for 3-4 people can be ready within 10-20 minutes from ordering on the phone, perfect for a quick pick up. Customer service is brilliant, lovely workers happy to help every way they can. Highly recommended, always go to Golden Horse every time. Thank you

Love it love it, gorgeous chicken curry fried rice pancake roll (Jimbo) and prawn toast. Definitely having that again.

Ordered a meal for 2 by phone and super friendly lady on the call and ready within 10 mins very happy and the food was fantastic.

Our food was very good, still hot when we got home and freshly cooked! Friendly and welcoming, I would definitely recommend it. We aren't from here, on holiday, but wish it was my local takeaway! The prices are no higher than at home, newcastle, definitely not expensive!

Incredible takeaway! Food is cooked to order and is perfection, packed full of taste and flavour. Quick turnaround and ran by a super friendly owner. There’s lots of info on arrival about paying cash and latest pricing so customers have all the info to make a choice - it’s a really hard time with cost of living for everyone, totally supportive and faultless communication. We’ll definitely be back, it’s the best takeaway we’ve had in York!

Really tasty special fried noddles and prawn crackers. Enjoyed it but personal preference is a little bit more sauce on the meat. The prices have gone up but only in line with everywhere else so nothing too drastic .

It's our local Chinese takeaway. Been regularly over the last few years. Foods okay but it's got noticeably more expensive. Last couple of times, when got home, found we'd been short changed. Not impressed, not sure if we'll be going again!

Awful food and very overpriced. Chicken in satay sauce, beef in black bean sauce were both tasteless and the sauce was very thin. Menu does not reflect what you get. Wanted the set menu, they are not doing that now! No rice or chips included as advertised on the menu. Great disappointment. Will go elsewhere in future

Food was terrible and very expensive, the noodles were inedible, duck was dry as a bone, the rice was flavourless and the prawns were raw. My girlfriend and I were worried about getting ill and could not finish our meal, we had to go to the Indian across the road were we got a very tasty meal, larger portions and for less than half the price. Would not recommend the golden Horse.

Owner was very friendly. However, prices much too expensive for such small portions. Ordered veg chow mein and got about 3 mushrooms in it. Also I got overcharged. I ordered a large fried rice and got charged extra but only given a small. Very disappointed and was looking forward to try this place. The noodles were teaming with grease, no flavour (never had chow mein without soy sauce), hardly any of them and horrendously overcooked. I've never had chow mein like that. I hate to put a bad word in about this place given all the good reviews but I really was upset that this place didn't live up to expectation.

A great Chinese takeaway great choice of food and speedy service. Our young family love the chicken with ginger and spring onion. We also order the prawn toast and spring rolls, great value for money too.

Just had veggie noodles with cashew nuts and asked them to make it spicy - which they did. Gorgeous!!

Good, enjoyed it but it would of been better if the chow mein noodles had some soy sauce and for it to be mixed before put in the container. Also a few noodles was slightly over cooked and dry. But apart from that it was good, would go again

This is the best takeaway I have ever been to ever, anywhere in the country. It is legitimately a reason why we don't ever want to move house (as we live very close). Especially recommend the duck and the salt & pepper prawns.

Favourite Chinese in York! Very quick service every time, great prices and I can't even explain how beautiful the chicken chow mein is here, I've brought all my friends and they are equally as in awe, including some friends from Hong Kong who are very critical of the Chinese food in England, they loved it and said it was as good as back home!
