The Roost in York

The Speckled Hen was a tad too cold for my liking but still very good. The Guinness was excellent. This establishment is spotlessly clean and has a very friendly and welcoming feeling. As for the staff, you couldn't puck a better bunch of people with a computer. AND I can definitely recommend the food!

Great food every time we've been

My ceilidh band and I, @priceofmypig, played here for a birthday last weekend. The space was good, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff were brilliant.

Best steak and ale pie I've had for ages, proper chips, decent beer, coffee, sensible prices. Rest of our group happy with their food also. Can sit outside by the golf course weather permitting. Saw a couple of guys having a late breakfast and that looked good too.

I honestly can't think of enough superlatives to describe this place. On entering you notice how clean the restaurant bar area is. The staff ad owners are very friendly and welcoming. The beer (Speckled hen) was a bit cooler than I would normally drink it, but never the less, it was excellent. The food is where I am really going to struggle. If I said that it was Chuffin Magic, would that suffice for you? We will definitely be returning here.

Special birthday meal for the family, group of 20. So well looked after, food was amazing with all of the dishes we selected. Service was attentive and not intrusive. Would thoroughly recommend The Roost

Beautifully decorated, cute bar, lovely outside space. We visited for a social so the food was pre paid for. Drinks very reasonably priced & a good selection! Food portions are huge & delicious!! Chips are THE best.

Didn't go in today was on practice range at swallow Hall 🙃

It's difficult to find a time when they actually serve food. Called in after golf only to find that they had just stopped serving food. They were however still feeding others around us. Not happy so we will move to another golf course which can provide food and drink after our game. Shame because the course is pretty good.

Enjoyed a delicious Mothers Day lunch at The Roost. Food and service were both outstanding. Did not disappoint. Would highly recommend it.

Today we had breakfast. Was yummy! Booking advisable. Lovely home cooked food. Chips are homemade & are delicious. Staff friendly & helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

Called for a drink after ny husband had finished playing golf around 6.30 the pub was empty and she was waiting to close, we did get served with a drink but felt like you couldn't sit and relax taking in the lovely scenery I have also hurd the food is quite good but obviously not serving food at this time. The Roost is in a lovely location would benefit from staying open longer.

Unwelcoming when we asked if we could move two unoccupied chairs to enable us to sit outside against a stacked table. They allowed us to sit on a short bench instead with no table or else we could sit inside. We didn't want to sit inside on a sunny day and due to the rise in covid infections we preferred to be outside.

We haven't eaten inside, but live very nearby and often visit to coffee. Always friendly and good food when we eat too.

Friendly place for a meal or drink or in our case visiting the 19th hole for a pint after a round.

It's fine for a small friendly golf club. Nice range of beers and wines. Food basic but freshly prepared and generous portions with friendly and helpful service. Also popular for meetings and occasions. 18 and 9 hole golf courses popular with non members and rightly so.

Have had food here a few times now after golf , And found it very enjoyable , with generous portions and good quality meats, will definitely be returning, even when not playing

A nice clean environment. We chose to go on the day the restaurant owners ran an all you can eat Thai curry evening for just £9.95 each. There were 5 different strength curries to choose from. Overall, it was a good evening with helpful staff.

Food was wholesome,freshly cooked and good.

Been tonight for the curry night. Buffet style with a choice of 4 different curries and choice of pickle tray. Well worth the £8.95. Made to feel very welcome.

Generous wholesome meals at great prices. Fantastic friendly service. The chef was very attentive to our needs and we felt that they took great pride in providing a very personal service.

Excellent place for food and drink in a lovely setting. The new team are making a great effort, highly recommended.

Had lasagne tonight with salad, very enjoyable, steak pie is also a good choice

Staying in The Paddock at Swallow Hall. Melissa and Christine have been very helpful, it's fantastic accommodation and wonderful golf course. Ian the new proprietor of the resteraunt has made us very welcome too, he has made us some delicious meals. The carvery on Sunday is out of this world. It is our second time at Swallow Hall and we will definately be coming back.

Excellent carvery served on a Sunday from 12 noon until 2pm. Priced at £9-95 per person. Parking available. Quick service and very nice food. Highly recommended.

Fabulous place, swallow hall hosted my sister's wedding party last night, and poor ian had to put up with all us rowdy lot partying away, could not recommend any place as highly as I recommend swallow hall, it was brilliant
