Poppadoms - cold / stale Pickle tray - good Starters - all appeared reheated and the reheat really didn’t work for the chops Mains - bland but generous on the portion not seen a green chilli in this jalfry. Breads - Excellent! Best bit by far of the meal Over priced for what you get All the atmosphere of Toolstation :) with piped commercial station inside and outside. This was my second meal, I won’t be visiting again. Though my first experience was just chefs night off.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.

We visited this pub for dinner having read previous reviews of the food. Unfortunately this pub no longer serves food..

Absolutely awful woman (I use that word loosely) behind the bar....rude and sarcastic.... told us to go elsewhere if we didn't like it.....plus the prices were so expensive....... do yourself a favour and AVOID like the plague. I hope that barmaid loses her job.

Six of us had sandwiches of varying fillings and we shared some chips (homemade-delicious). We polished everything off and everyone was happy. Would recommend definitely.

Ordered from the App. Hawaiian pizza turned up with extra ingredients that we paid for, but standard ingredient of pineapple missing. Let it go the first time, but the same thing happened the next time we ordered. This time I phoned up. And the person I spoke to said that their system said to leave out the pineapple, which I did not request. Fobbed me off by saying he'd issue a £5 refund, which we never got. Will not be using them again.

Looked so good from the outside! Quirky building, unique and interesting decor. We really fell for it… Cake was good (not made on site but made by a local baker). Beer was a bit warm and meh. Lovely younger blonde girl serving who, if given the chance, could make the place amazing I’m sure. Owner was sour faced and miserable, said good bye to other customers without even turning around from wiping a table. Zero atmosphere, people were whispering; it felt so empty and unwelcoming. Could really do with some background music! We didn’t eat other than a piece of cake - and we finished our drinks as quickly as we could to get out of there! Definitely would not recommend this place, go somewhere else!!

Fish and chips was all from frozen produce. No fresh at all. It was OK but nothing special. A good range of ales.

Lovely evening meal and delicious breakfast

Called in for a very last minute Sunday roast and found everyone really accommodating, friendly and keen to please. Lovely cosy feel to the place and it was suitably full to create a great atmosphere. Roast was huge and delicious! There was also Live Music! What a fabulous find. We’ll definitely be back thank you!

Had the carvery, it was nice, but unfortunately no cauliflower cheese left which for us is a must with a roast. Staff were nice but not very organised, seems to lack a good figure head, for instance a table full of glasses were just walked passed a number of times. On leaving a staff member cutting the meat was stood outside puffing on a cigarette not nice to see, at least smoke in a discreet location .

Popped in for breakfast and was really disappointed when the breakfast arrived. If they had used smaller plates it wouldn’t have looked like a child’s meal. The only saving grace was the chipolata sausage tasted nice. The egg was overcooked and the half a mushroom was laughable. Not sure £9 is justifiable for this plus £2.30 for a small mug of tea. Sadly I won’t be returning

Great setting watching the world going by. Lovely design, very impressed with self order tills... local and independent. Must visit.

Had to waste 30 minutes in town. Decided to go to Marks cafe for a coffee. Awful attitude from the lady making the coffees. Saturday 7th 1030am. It would help to be barrista trained, because my coffee was useless, full of air bubbles, making it unpleasant. A smile wouldn't go amiss either!! Shocking!!

We go to the Golden Horse at least a couple of times a month. The people are friendly and helpful. The food is always good. Never had a bad experience there.
