The best restaurants in Marlborough West Wiltshire South West

The Plough at Shalbourne is extremely welcoming, and since Polly and Dan took over at the end of 2024 the food and ambiance has been exceptional. Dan is a celebrity chef, who’s been a private chef for many legendary rock and roll stars, including The Cure, Katy Perry, Madonna, The Spice Girls, Paul McCartney, The Who, and Seal. He has a very wide repertoire, but his signature Thai food is truly outstanding at very reasonable prices. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening and plan to visit again soon.

I wrote a glowing review some time back about this place but boy, has it changed. Maybe they've had a change of chef or something but today it was DIRE. We ordered the fish & chips and the fish didn't taste right at all. I think it was supposed to be cod but it tasted more like undercooked hake. Also, they left the skin on and the batter was just greasy and tasteless. Usually when we have fish anywhere, the skin is removed and there is a nice fillet but this was just all slimy skin, thick greasy batter and a handful of chips. Very poor value indeed and we won't be going back.

Came to have a nice meal. Supposedly open 5-10:30 on a Thursday night. Came at 7, lights off chairs up, nothing. Lovely

A splendid home-made soup that was simply bursting with flavour of the ingredients, followed by a nicely prepared jacket potato with cheese + a hot chocolate drink provided me with a great snacky lunch. I gathered that Claudia, our cook, was born and grew up in Switzerland, which probably influences her style of cooking. I have no hesitation in recommending The Mustard Seed for this type of meal.

The Oddfellows is a wonderful little gem of a village pub recently taken over by Kris and Sam. This lovely couple have made it a relaxing and welcoming space for all occasions from a casual drink to a celebratory meal. The food is always exceptional, the beer well kept, lots of choice of wine and spirits and friendly welcome to everyone (with plenty of biscuits available for the dogs). Looking forward to returning many times in the future and would recommend to anyone.

Room unclean, road noise loud, and breakfast low quality (undercooked and unhygienic). im sorry but i cannot recommend this place

We always pop in to Rick Stein for cocktails. Conner makes the best cocktails ever and is always so friendly. I highly recommend you try his Expresso martini. 🌟

A great find, slightly tucked away in Marlborough. We arrived just as they opened and the staff couldn't do enough to look after us. A great menu, with well executed dishes. The staff seemed to bend over backwards to make sure we were looked after, from optimising our orders with a lunch time meal deal, and finding some sweets to top a milkshake with as the children in our party tried to order a seasonal Halloween shake, but the staff pulled it out of the bag and found some ghost sweets! We will be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone to pop in for a fantastic burger, and great staff!

We loved our stay here. Its good value for money. Some decor would not go amiss- needs to be kept in keeping given its wonderful heritage.
