Had a very odd experience here - Friday evening, only about 1/3 full but from the moment they took our orders it felt that they were desperate to get rid of us. The food arrived incredibly quickly, everything then whipped away and before long at all we were being presenting with our bill and asked to pay. I asked the waiters to ‘give us a few munutes’ at each step, but they did literally that and then came straight back, before expressing their annoyance which put a dampener on our party’s evening. I see lots of the Google reviewers have had similar experiences. The food was fine, apart from my tandori chicken which was very plain with little spice, though perhaps this was just the style of the dish. Wish it hadn’t been so rushed as not sure we’d go back now which is a shame as it’s the only Indian restaurant left in town.

Quality of food exceptionally poor, lamb diced to tiny cubes and not tender at all, poppadoms stale and the biryani sauce was watery and bland. They could not wait to get our table back quicker, very disappointing overall.

I’ve known Bablu for 25 years. I have been privileged enough to spend some quality time in his restaurant with my long standing friends and we’ve always had a good experience. However…this last Fridays meal was quite honestly the BEST I’ve ever had. Best in the Raj Best Indian meal Best service !! It is so good to have this place right on my doorstep (literally.) Thank you to all members of staff who made our experience so memorable. It really was a special meal. I know dining out is expensive now and it’s not affordable to everyone, but if you get the chance to pop in, just do it. You won’t be disappointed !

The Raj are always so warm and welcoming! I've been coming here for years and it's like visiting family now. The food is excellent with such a broad range of flavours and tastes. The write ups for each dish are well thought out and interesting. It makes trying new things a joy. Went with my brother on Tuesday evening for their special deal night. Excellent food and friendly service from Mr Khan. When it says hot on the menu, it's hot. Lots of chef's specials, along with classic dishes. Rice and nan bread are also excellent. Great night and looking forward to visiting again.

Pleasant enough place but the worst, strangest Indian food I have ever eaten. The dal was sweeter than custard, the sag aloo was sweet with no spices and the chicken dish was supposed to be spicy. It wasn't, it was just sweet. If you like dessert-style Indian food this place is for you. Otherwise, I cannot recommend it.

Avoid this place. Food was super sweet and not fresh. When we tried to raise this the manager was defensive and said it's their "style". It was a total rip off. The beer was flat and they charged 6£ for a bottle of soda water in a smart looking pre-opened bottle. Writing this so people who want an authentic Indian meal don't get misled by 4* reviews.

Excellent food and really good service. The Raj is definitely my favourite Indian restaurant and by far the best restaurant in Marlborough.

My Family Organised a surprise 60th Birthday Meal for me at raj. It was a booking for 15 people. The menu had a great choice of dishes we explained that there was some food allergies which the manager was more than happy to accommodate for. The service was fabulous and very quick. It was a lovely evening with great company and delicious food. We can’t wait to come back again.

Having lived in India this food is as good if not better. The staff are friendly and attentive, the chef incredible, the menu is packed full of enticing and authentic dishes with creative description. A wonderful clean decor with originality at its core. And finally very good value for money and set meals within their menu.

This is the second time I've eaten at the Raj. We don't live local but we have family locally who always recommend them. We all tried different starters and main dishes which showed the breadth of the menu. There was not a single bad meal and everything including the rice and the Naan was delicious. Delicious flavours with a variety of spice to suit your pallet means a great meal. The staff were helpful and attentive and the restaurant had a great busy atmosphere. I would highly recommend the Raj you would not be disappointed.

Came here out of recommendation. The food was outstanding, so much flavour with such a great range of choices. We were so full we couldn’t fit dessert in which never happens! Service was fantastic, the whole team look after you so well and will go above and beyond. Best place for good quality food if you’re ever in Marlborough, will be back with the family soon.

10/10 delicious authentic indian and Bangladeshi food we had the lamb madras, one of the specialty lamb dishes, butter chicken, and dahl macni and they were all top tier. The garlic naan was great too. Would go again.

Enjoyed lunch here with my daughter today. This is a great restaurant with a delicious menu of Bangladeshi and Indian dishes. I moved to the town 12 years ago and we are regulars as always friendly staff and I’ve never had a disappointing meal - either eating in or takeaway.

Our favourite Indian & Bangladesh cuisine, it is simply the best. My wife and I had a wonderful meal last night. The range of starters and the quality is top notch. The samosas full of flavour in a crispy pastry , the kebabs delicious and seasoned mmm so tasty. We enjoyed our curries the chicken Madras was amazing. The Naans were fluffy, and huge and so fresh. The atmosphere is good and the service prompt and friendly. The food is really great here and we have never been anywhere as good in the area. The whole meal was excellent value for money. We enjoyed 2 starters, two curries, 1 side and 2 freshly baked naans and our drinks for less than £50.

This is our go to venue every Sunday lunchtime for lunch in Malborough. 9 delicious dishes in an All You Can Eat Buffet for an amazing £11.95 per person. Last night we had Dinner and were really delighted with our curry choices and the Nan bread. Service with a smile from a genial host. Nothing too much trouble and terrific value for money.

Delicious food and great service. The menu has all the familiar 'traditional' items, but also a long list of more unusual dishes including fish and vegetarian specials and side dishes. Superb vegetable balti, with lots of fresh-tasting vegetables, perfectly spiced. Gorgeous garlicky dhal and light, fluffy nan and chapatis. The restaurant is decorated very stylishly - the ladies' toilet is magnificent! The staff are lovely, very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. A great meal, and good value for the high quality. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

We had a great meal here, a large group of us. Food was good, service was excellent and it was great to have a choice of beers including draft. Would be happy to visit again next time in the area.

Restaurant management and staff attitude should be much more good

Been to the restaurant and frequently had home deliveries. Always a great service (quick delivery and nice staff) rather expensive and sometimes worth it, but not always, like this evening. Order a Madras, get the spice level of a Korma. The curries are delicious, but asking for a hot curry seems to depend on which particular chef is cooking it. I've had really hot Madras (which I love and as it should be, as ordered) or like tonight, disappointing, more similar to a curry you'd order your toddler. It's a shame really, because they have beautiful curries, flavourful and delicious but if you want heat and order a curry that should have it, it's a lottery. In summary, random quality, very expensive. Doubt I'll order again.

Wow! Honestly the best Indian we have ever had! If we ever want a curry this is where we come too! Food is always piping hot (even if delivered), service is outstanding whether you eat in, collect or have it delivered. Food is delicious at all times and generally just a lovely place to eat! They have great vegan and vegetarian dishes too and are always accommodating to other dietary needs such as gluten allergies when we go with friends. Butter chicken is delicious!

Overpriced,poor quality meagre portion all sauce no veg,disgusted to see their kitchen door that backs onto bins and a graveyard are WIDE open all the time in warm weather!Rats?Flies?

I went here with my family. We love indian food but our choise is pretty basic; thankfully our friendly waiter had some good suggestions and we very much enjoyed the food. All suggestions were on point. Also the service was great and the street was very cosy.

Within 10 minutes of my order I received a phone call call stating I hadn't paid. I checked my email confirmation and my bank account - and explained this to the restaurant. I was fairly aggressively told I was wrong so I suggested I could come down and show them my email and bank account confirmation. I did just that, and was still to fairly aggressively that I was wrong by 3 gentlemen. So I told them to keep the £43 and I'd honestly had enough of this and I'd bill them for the order when I had confirmation on my next bank statement. It was only then the account holder for the restaraunt got a hold of me and said their system had crashed, I had been billed the £43 for the order and the error was their end. Their excuse was that its a "common issue" that some people who order fail the online bank checker to make sure you've got enough money to place the order, knowing they don't have enough money and "chance their arm" to get the food anyway. Somehow that's a valid excuse for shouting at customers... not sure I agree with that.

Thank you for the good service and an absolute rip off. The service was not bad but the food was not great. The sweetest dal ever. We never had a dal with so much sugar and we told them that this is beyond a dessert for a dal with so much sugar. The staff didn’t not apologise and we returned it and yet they charged us with no shame. He was rather rude to respond that “ this is meant for children who loves sweet and you should have asked me before if it’s sweet or not. I cannot do anything with this and if you don’t want I will still charge you.And is upto you”. How are we supposed to know a lentil from the curries list is sweeter than a dessert. We had dal makhni around the country and in India. It’s an insult to the very dish. We insisted to take it away and had to place another order for a different dal as a side. He brought a main portion instead . We gave up raising another complaint. The vegetarian mixed starters were tasteless. The poppodams were stale. We will not go again. And is a clear rip off for the food which is below standard. We are foodies and we respect people and their true service. The tasteless food can be forgiven but not a bad attitude and the intention to rip off customers with no shame. And yes we did feel a bit racism at this place. We are thankful to have tried and tested and share this review for other customers who are after a good genuine friendly customer service.

Polite and attentive waiters. Food was very tasty. I really liked the peshwari naan bread. Parking on the high street (A4) is just a short walk away. We dined in but I have also used the home delivery service, which is very good. Tuesday evening meal deal is worth checking out.

Came here with family as a table of 7 and were cramped on a table with room for 6, squeezing 3 into the space for 2. Service was rather poor with the grumpy waiter bringing plates tossing them onto the table casually and without care, even leaving us without serving spoons for our meals. The waiter taking our orders was equally uncaring and unfriendly. The food was good, but absolutely did not allow for such a low quality of service.

The last time we eat in the restaurant we felt rushed to leave when the staff got the hoover out and started hoovering! We went again this week as a large party and the staff were rude, they didn't have hardly any choices of wine and we were made to feel quite unwelcome. The food was very good, but we won't be going back due to the service.

Management need to update both the website and very large poster in their window. We've been a number of times for Sunday buffet, trying today we were turned away at 1.45 as we were too late, but website shows last booking 2.15 and large poster in window says this is until 2.30 🤬 very frustrating

Pleasant central curry house. Good pappadoms though I found my vegetable biriyani a bit bland, though tasted pretty healthy! My wife’s lamb special was good but a little chewy.

Nice enough and good quality. Fresh poppadums always a good sign. One of the waiters seemed miserable, could do with putting on a smile, others were fine and made you feel welcome. Good prices. Overall not bad if unremarkable.

I grew up in Marlborough and lived just round the corner from the Raj, which was a weekly tradition for me and my family for years - was always wonderful.Returned to Marlborough on business and decided to have supper in the Raj - must be the first time for 5 or 6 years. Was lovely to get a warm welcome of recognition from Bablu. And most importantly, the food was as excellent as ever; jalfrezi extremely tasty, lovely sides.Great to be back and hopefully not another 6 yrs until my next visit!

Came as a family to try a different Indian restaurant in the area, sorry we did starters were good unfortunately when it came to my partners main meal I noticed a hair in her curry, when I told waiter his reply was it’s a lady’s hair and our chef is male and 1 can exchange it which she didn’t want, I said just take her meal off the bill his answer when going to pay was I said I’d change it. So paid it, and thought the word is mightier the the sword. Treat the same as Covid-19

Sadly this evening just as i was about to put a fork to my mouth my partner said " stop there is a hair in your food" we had eaten just about a half of our meal...he called waiter who offered a replacement meal to which i declined as one my appetite was lost and secondly i didnt want another meal it would have been a waste..When we come to pay my partner asked them to tale my meal off as I finished it halfway through to be told .....no we offeredYou another meal...you must pay...not happyPlus both mine and my sons coke's were as flat as ...Horrid evening and wont be returning

This restaurant has been a firm family favourite for many years, at least 10 years! Not only is the food consistently excellent and the best Indian cuisine in the area, the friendliness of the staff also make this restaurant stand out!I’m a very regular customer, eating in every Tuesday with a close friend, taking advantage of the £13.95 per person deal; excellent value and even better flavours!Every Sunday we enjoy a family takeaway, always delivered promptly and with a smile.I’ve been eating here for well over 10 years, I hope there’s many more years to be enjoyed!
