On arrival we were very impressed, the pub seemed nicely busy and very quirky. We were greeted and shown to our booked table. Drinks were served quickly and our order taken (the menu was different from online but still had plenty of choice). The room was quite chilly and we quickly noticed quite a few customers had jumpers and coats on. My partner didn't remove his jacket. The food looked and tasted really good but unfortunately my dauphinoise potatoes were cold, I continued eating the other food on my plate and waited for the waiter to come to the table to check everything was ok, unfortunately no one came. I did then eat what I'd been served. It's such a shame the small details were overlooked as it could be really nice there. Sadly we won't be returning. My three tips for the venue would be, make sure the pub is comfortably warm, check the temperature of the food you are serving and always check that your customers are happy with the food served.

After looking at the online menu ( which had been posted 4 days before) to make sure they had vegetarian options we booked our table and arrived on time. I quickly noticed the menu was completely different to the online one and the vegetarian option was gone. One of our ladies asked the younger male waiter if he thought the chef would do fish and chips, he very quickly said ‘no he hasn’t go any, menu online is posted by the brewery it’s nothing to do with us’ the other vegetarian option was also missing from the menu so I had had to have a bowl of chips ( which were only half cooked). Another from our party asked if she could have Whitebait as a main meal ‘yes’ was the reply. When the Whitebait came out it was a starter, very small portion, on a few letter leaves with no bread and butter! I politely mentioned to the younger male that is was meant to be a main and he just shrugged his shoulders and said ‘that’s how it came out’ and casually walked away, it was a relief as the whitebait had fishy smell from across the table and caused a bad stomach during the night. The other two meals consisted of Burgers which were extremely thick, very dry and compact and only tasted of pepper. Any chips were barely cooked but as the waiter seemed to have a no approach ora we ate our food. We then had to leave the restaurant table to collect our own sweet menus as the young waiter evaded eye contact every time he attended the table of four men sat next to us. Sweets arrived ( would be incredibly surprised if they were made fresh or even in the establishment) the Tart had been microwaved as the pastry was slightly soggy and the cheesecake had not been cut it was a individual portion which screams bought in frozen. One of our party had to leave the table for the second time to go and ask for the bill. While we were paying,( the much nicer older gentleman came to the table) a lady from our party noticed the younger male waiter was sat at the bar with what appeared to be kitchen staff looking over at us talking and laughing, not once but the whole time. This can only come across as unpleasant, unprofessional and extremely childish. The younger of the two waiters definitely needs to work behind the scenes as his has a very limited charm which would be best used out of the way of paying customers.

Sadly having to give a negative review. We went for Sunday lunch and it was terrible - asked if they do children’s menu, no said waitress but we can do half portions, ok so my husband asked if he was also able to order half portion as he is currently unwell and little appetite- yes says waitress. Ordered my meal specifically NO GRAVY Meals ordered food comes - mine swimming in gravy - My husband charged full price - roast spuds all cold - I mean like from the fridge cold! - Cauliflower cheese also cold - One meal was asked to be completely changed as cold and it returned completely microwaved with roasts and Yorkshire missing So we tell the waiting staff all this and it is completely ignored We will not be returning

Arrived for Sunday lunch with family. One of us asked for a roast with no meat, another of our party asked if they did small or half portions to which we were told they did. The “vegetarian” roast arrived stone cold as did our bowl of vegetables so we asked for fresh ones of each to be served. To which they chucked my original dinner in the microwave (nothing had moved and the veg returns dry and crusty) however the rest of our party were left with cold vegetables all round… when the vegetarian roast was returned randomly my Yorkshire pudding had been removed meaning I paid £19 for two roast potatoes and a serving of veg. The meat, both lamb and beef, served were fatty and chewy. My father who had asked for the half portion was also charged £19 (full price). When we tried to raise our dissatisfaction we were told they didn’t offer half portions hence why we’d be charged full price and that they would “look into” us being charged £19 for a plate of dry veg… needless to say after half an hour no one returned to offer any form of apology or compensation. The staff, albeit young and possibly inexperienced, didn’t know what they were doing and didn’t seem remotely phased that we were unhappy with our food. And the owner/manager was clearly in a foul mood and each time we approached the bar to order food or drinks he was moaning and complaining about something or another. Would not return and would recommend people avoid!!

Charming pub with a great garden with children’s play area. However the food was awful. Ham, Egg and Chips for I think 18 pounds = an over cooked egg yolk, and school dinner oven chips. I thought I ordered a regular burger. Can’t go wrong. Instead I was served a burger cooked to death and drenched in a gloopy sauce and finished under the grill. No bun on top, but they left the bun on the bottom? Why? Soggy to the point of no return it was all very confusing. And again for very unreasonable 18 pounds. I chased a portion of fries for my eldest child that weren’t brought out. They said they were on the table. After a back and forth and me having to walk back to my table, 10 minutes later they said they didn’t place the order. I said leave it. Having worked in hospitality in my younger years, I just would have brought a portion of fries out. This pub is a great half way meeting point for us and some friends coming from Bristol and London, where we have a wealth of great pubs serving food. Disappointed today, I wish I took photos 😞

We found this beauty after our visit of Avesbury stonecycle (also worth a visit) because we got really hungry. First we were uncertain because of a parking lodge for our motor home but the lady of the Oddfellows allowed our stay. We got a heart warming welcome and could stay for a lunch. It was really delicious. The whole place was really family friendly and our 3 year old son enjoyed the playground in the backyard of the place. We met really kindly people there and left well saturated :D We recommend a visit and a taste of their variety of dishes.

We booked a table here for lunch following a dog walk in West Woods, 6 adults, 2 kids, a baby and 2 large dogs. Admittedly it was a quiet, dreary Monday lunchtime, but we received a warm welcome and given plenty of space to accommodate us all. A good selection of dishes on the menu, and the food when it came was obviously homemade, all served together, hot and very tasty. Only slight downside was the portions were so huge, we couldn’t explore the dessert menu! Will definitely return

Being near Marlborough you could have a reasonable expectation that a place might offer a slightly (it only needs to be ‘slightly’ at pub prices) better standard to be pleasing enough. Printed-fresh paper menu sheets can be a good sign & reassuringly there was not too wide a selection on offer, mostly made-daily home-cooking stuff or grill fare.. However the pub was full of Marlborough types. Not quite wealthy enough to have servants so they look down at you instead.. The food was when it eventually came was just average-pub & my beer (local) hadn’t been looked after… To be fair they were busy with what looked like a WI AGM party upstairs but we had to go to the bar twice to tell them we were ready to order.. The good news is I’ve got the research job of finding somewhere else to go..

Very nice cozy pub. Feels very comfortable. Great place to go for a meal and a pint. Food was fantastic. However, I felt that the service was not authentic and I was not too pleased to see that the sauce I was offered cost 2.50 extra plus there was an automatic service charge added to the bill that was not mentioned. Perhaps a little bit of greed by plumping up the final price without showing it on the menu item! Pity because it spoilt a perfect impression.

Took visiting friend for lunch. We sat in the garden as wanted to enjoy the sunshine. Garden was unkempt and the only table available (uncovered) was next to collapsing fencing (and noisy fan vent from kitchen). Both had prawn sandwich with Marie Rose sauce and salad, and chips. Chips were very good but the rest wasn’t. The prawns were completely tasteless and so was the sauce, which seemed watered-down. All I could taste was the margarine spread thickly on the bread. The salad had some sort of dressing on, which seemed to consist of oil and nothing else. I was embarrassed to have taken my friend there.

Went here for lunch with friends with my small dog. Very dog friendly. All staff were welcoming and friendly and service was excellent. Atmosphere was very pleasant. Food arrived quickly, and looked very attractive. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is that I had the fish and chips, batter was crisp, chips looked good, but it all tasted a bit bland and the mushy peas were dryish and didn't help on adding flavour (there had been salt on fish batter so wasn'tlack of salt). No other sauces on the table bar sachets of mustard/vinegar/mayonnaise (I unfortunately don't like mayonnaise and the other condiments didn't help) I could probably have asked for ketchup, but didn't, which may have helped. I would have loved to have given 5 stars otherwise.

Taken here by friends for our first visit. The food was good and enjoyable, but highly priced for what it was. The starter was fairly expensive,( chicken liver parfait) although the main course ( pie of the day) was reasonable. However the puddings were highly priced !( Small helpings of ice-cream. It was effectively a child's portion for £8. )There were four of us altogether. We had two bottles of Spanish red wine between us, plus a pint and a half pint for the two men.The two ladies only had a couple of starters each. Both men had a main course, while only one had a starter and only the other had pudding with just one of the ladies also having pudding too. It wasn't three courses each. Three had coffee afterwards.Total cost £156.We thought it was rather a lot of money for a pub supper. We also had to send a water glass back because it hadn't been cleaned properly, although it didn't spoil the meal as such. These factors just undermined what was otherwise a friendly supper out with friends whom we hadn't seen for a while.. It was rather a shame. Our host did comment to a member of staff about the price of the dessert. Hopefully it will be corrected.

We visited the pub for an early evening dinner, having previously visited during CoVID lockdown shortly after the pub had changed management. Our previous visit had been very enjoyable so we had high hopes of a repeat.... BUT... On arrival, the staff extended a warm greeting and were helpful. We'd requested an outdoor table and shown to the 'courtyard', walking through the pub which was busy and seemed very pleasant. The courtyard turned out to be a glassed-in area which felt like a waiting room devoid of any atmosphere with any colour, flowers, shrubs etc. The area was empty of Guests. The stone flooring was extremely dirty and stained, the tables unclean and the chairs a mix of very old furniture, also very dirty. The whole courtyard area was uninviting and stark; clearly no one had taken time to clean and prepare for Guests. The flooring appeared never to have had a pressure wash or thorough clean and this extended to the path to the toilet which was equally dirty. We checked out the garden as an alternative, but again, the tables were randomly spread without chairs and the whole are was very messy and unkempt. This was not the place for us to enjoy a relaxing evening. We're great supporters of local village pubs particularly in the Summer when we like an outdoor eating experience. but we won't be returning until the pub gets a thorough clean and upgrade to its external facilities.

We arrived for a meal, having booked for it over a month previously. To say that we were stunned when shown to a dilapidated area called The Courtyard would be an understatement. Having worked as a property agent I can only say that should I have described it as a courtyard I would have had my professional qualifications stripped off me under the Property Misdescriptions Act. It is a grimy, cold, concrete slabbed bleak area bounded on two sides by grubby plastic, complete with a wall with fake stone wallpaper and a ludicrous cheap Caribbean beach scene. Why? When I explained our dissatisfaction to the surly waitress she seemed to imply that we had deliberately booked it (which if we had would have implied we were insane) or that all on-line bookings automatically get directed to this ghastly area. At no point did she appear in any way concerned with our disappointment but answered back with an attitude of 'take it or leave it' . I immediately got on my phone and attempted to book another 3 establishments but they were all unable to accommodate us. We decided to grin and bear it and then waited an hour for the starters to appear. The time of serving seemed to be a 'punishment' for complaining as we observed numerous others who had arrived after us getting food before us. The food was perfectly acceptable, albeit under the circumstances a complete waste of money. At all times the service was begrudging at best and rude at worst, all the way down to the aforementioned waitress who twice left the door open to the outside so we could get even colder-if that was possible. I can't comment on the inside as we never saw it but would urge anyone to avoid the so-called 'Courtyard' like the plague.

Took the Mr's here for valentine's evening meal...The staff were very welcoming and accomodating,we never had to wait to long for our meals to be freshly cooked for us...I had the serloin steak with chunky chips, onion rings, mushroom, tomato and rocket salad...The Mr's had double egg, ham, peas and chunky chips...All very enjoyable, washed down with some nice drinks...It is a very pretty village pub and we'll worth a visit...👍

We found Oddfellows online and went for dinner. The bar is small and really comfortable, its very welcoming, the gentleman serving was friendly and went out of his way to make us feel at home, even our little dog. The menu was not too large...

Popped in for a quick pub lunch - Unfortunately won’t be popping in again! Had a Brie and bacon sandwich, didn’t think you could go wrong, bread was cheap, hardly any Brie and the bacon wasn’t good. Bunces cafe in Marlborough charge the same price...

£8 for three squid rings as a starter is a bit of a pisstake... as is the two small chunks of deep fried chesse for another, you guessed it... £8! Pretty disappointed if I'm honest.

Fantastic service amazing staff food perfect (Nigel the chef) great setting and accommodated 4 adults and 3 large dogs at very short notice . The lovely lady behind the bar was what every hospitality business needs.

26June2024 This ‘bad’ review is just to get the owners attention to the fact the phone number doesn’t work. My last visit was June 2023 and it was the same dead-phone at that time, but I chose to drive there and had a great meal and i cannot recall whether I said anything about the dead-phone at the time, but this time, with so many places closing, I’m not sure whether this one is still open. Happy to delete this review if I hear the phone is fixed.
