The Lodge in Wiltshire

Visiting the area and decided to stop at The Lodge, and what a wonderful place it is. We wanted a light bite to eat and were advised by Alex that the pork taco was amazing, and he was not wrong! Alex was very chatty and gave us an insight to what was around the local area and told us that there was a direct train to bath which we got the next day. We sat in the bar area on our first night which was nice. It was showing rugby and there was also a fruit machine. We sat in the restaurant on the Saturday night and had the Lodge burger and the sausage and champ which Antonia recommended. Both staff in the restaurant were great and really welcoming and made sure we had everything that we wanted. Antonia was telling us about their Lodgefest music festival over the August bank holiday which sounds right up our street - it's a shame we're away other wise we would definitely have been coming back for it!

Went to The Lodge today formy 60th birthday for the Sunday lunch. Fantastic roast and trimmings and good size portions. I loved the cauliflower cheese. Big shout out to Roseen who served us, we were a large group. Thank you. Would highly recommend the roast here.

Sorry to have to say but this was a truly dreadful experience. The service was beyond slow ie about a two hour wait for main course. The food was very poor. Burnt burger buns, overcooked breaded chicken, unrecognisable chocolate mousse etc. etc. Such a shame as we were out to celebrate a friend’s birthday but a huge disappointment. Do not waste your money.

We visited for dinner whilst staying in the Hunters Moon lodges. Allowed to eat in the bar area with dog which is lovely and had a big screen with sports on. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A drink was spilled and the waiter immediately came over with a new one. Offered treats for our dog too. We had the corned beef hash and steak. Thoroughly enjoyed both meals.

Oh my gosh! The roast is fantastic. Any roast which offers pigs in blankets and yorkshire pudding is a win from me but this was a new level. Staff are super friendly and happy to help with all your questions.

Me and my partner went for a meal down at the lodge on Friday evening as we’re staying in the nearby cabins. The two girls Toni and Erin (I think their names were) were great and helped us decide on what to eat and their recommendations were spot on. Great food and a lovely setting. Great way to start off the festive season.

The vegetables were raw. Couldn’t find the duck, once found, needed a magnifying glass and was tough as old boots! Mains were served about 10 minutes before vegetables and chips. Coffee was served with white sugar and cutlery was lacking.

Sunday lunch was fantastic, we ate in the bar area which was a little quiet and the room could have been a bit warmer. The food was delicious and the service very friendly. I really hope people support the relaunch as it deserves to be busy.

Difficult to park as so busy but eventually got in. Shown to table quickly and with smiles. Food order taken effectively and delivered quickly. Great starter and steak with a good sweet, thanks 😊

Just had a superb Sunday Lunch at The Lodge today having been made aware that Dean Carr, formerly of the Market Table and The Bath Arms Crockerton had taken over the kitchen. Roast beef, Canapés and dessert were all 10/10. Good value and great service I will definitely be making it my Sunday lunchtime venue of choice!

Had a meal here while staying at the adjacent Hunters Moon Lodges. Place is modern, bar tender was friendly and welcoming, we had the burger which was really good and tasty, good price too! The Lodge was quiet, hey it’s lovely to sit outside in sunny weather! Only grumble was the dark driveway down from the road, only a short walk to the lodges but was pitch black! So there’s a tip… wear a head torch 🤣🤣

Wasn’t able to get a refund for food after we didn’t eat it, asked for plain burger and they brought it out and was salad and sauce in the burger sent it back and they just scraped the salad and sauce and gave it back. The owner was drunk and rude and wouldn’t listen to what I was saying. The food took an hour and a half and my chicken in my burger kept sliding out of the bun, 100% never going back.

DONT GO HERE!!! WORSE PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO!! RUDE DISRESPECTFUL OWNER! We came to the lodge as a party of 5 we had ordered food and waited 2 hours for our food, food finally came out too the food being all wrong and not taken into consideration of any changes we asked to be made and was promised, the owner came over to us and rudely questioned us about what was wrong with the food, when we told her that the quality of food was terrible and we would like a refund she got irate about the situation and started arguing with us and forcing us to leave with no refund or anything! Overall a terrible experience with a very very rude owner! I will never come back here again and will happily let a whole load of people know the food and overall the place is terrible! The food here was really very good indeed, which was quite a surprise in what’s a fairly grotty static caravan site (sorry, Hoseasons, but it is. Try actually maintaining the algae-covered, weed-filled lake for a start. ) The “Coke” was like a bad Sodastream creation, however. However the staff were lovely and the food was excellent - we had tapas and it was freshly made and extremely tasty so we’ll return for the food!

Too be honest, I do not know where to start. I was staying on site at one of the lodges and thought id book a lovely evening meal out to the Lodge, which was the other side of the river. I had previously been here 3 years ago or so, and had the most wonderful meal in the main restaurant, so I was really looking forward to receiving that service again and tasty grub!! I had issues in booking a table, from numerous conversations on facebook messenger, to getting an confirmation email for the wrong amount of guests, to turning up on the night and no reservation was even booked! I had telephoned this place 32 times, on different days and times to try and book a table, fair enough there was an answer phone machine, but what was the point in leaving a message, the slow response via messenger was appalling and not correctly booked. When me and my friend arrived, we walked into the bar area and I was already dreading the fact I would have to sit in there, it was the most uncomfortable atmosphere with what seemed like 'free bar' with all different people helping themselves, I think they were all a big family with the owners of the place, but my god it was not professional!...... Our table wasn't booked, so we chose a table and sat down, I will have to say the lady who served us was extremely lovely- Sarah, and I actually felt sorry for her as it seemed like all night she was sorting out issues and trying to manage things. Sarah did offer us free drinks as an apology, as she did not know about our booking, as well as another couple before us. We ordered some tapas food, which I felt disappointed, it wasn't what was said on the menu, and the Bombay potatoes and hummus tasted of absolutely nothing. The fries, chicken and steak was tasty though! We booked our table at 6.30pm, our food arrive at 7.40pm. Mistakes of the evening 1- communication to book was a joke 2- We had to sit in the bar lounge, and not the restaurant as there was a function going on- we knew nothing about this, therefore the food choice was awful. 3- We felt so uncomfortable, it was full of too much noise and not a nice environment. 4- The running of the lounge bar area was appalling, food was coming out and being left on the bar as the waitress didn't know who's it was, but the owners didn't seem bothered. 5- food was not as expected, or as tasty as last time. good points- 1- Sarah tried her best to make our experience pleasant We will not be returning as there was too many issues from start to finish, such a shame after having such a wonderful experience a few years ago. Unfortunely, The running of the place from bookings to food, to service all comes from management. Although the lady owner ( I think) came to apologize at the table, I just felt it wasn't good enough on this occasion.

We were the only people in for Sunday lunchtime, very odd. Booked by my elderly relatives who did not know the area. The menu was very limited and there had been pictures on line of roast dinners. No roast dinner on the menu. Sausage and mash ordered for two of us and ham egg and chips for one. Apparently there was only enough sausage and mash for one. After an hour and still no food (which had to be paid for up front) a complaint was put in as there were no other customers. Food was average and sausage and mash reheated so a skin had formed on mash. Chips undercooked and ham overcooked. Asked for pudding menu. Twenty mins later still no pudding menu. Was told that the only puddings they had were raspberry ripple and choc ice cream. I feel that my elderly relative, cousin and myself who happens to be disabled were booked in, with The Lodge knowing full well that on that date they could not provide a full service and that we were taken advantage of. Dreadful place, and should hv been full to the eyeballs on a Sunday lunchtime.

Absolutely rubbish first day here and they are not doing food as the chef is on holiday

Came for Sunday lunch with a big group of friends and family. Location is nice and the service was really good unfortunately the food was a big let down. You'd have to be a crocodile to eat the pork roast and the kids chicken burgers were burnt. The coffees afterwards were like rocket fuel but not in a good way. Nice place for a drink only in my opinion.

We went for a late lunch and ate inside, but the whole setting is really nice, you jave, a, viewon tje outside part of the restaurant and on the lake. Very good pub food.

Clean, stopped for cake and hot drink. No cakes, no decaf or hot chocolate. Only a bar with meals and crisps/peanut snacks. Good seating inside and out, slow service with large party. Toilet clean, hand wash and hand cream available.

Visited for a themed bottomless brunch. The service was absolutely amazing. Lovely lovely ladies who were so quick with bringing our drinks and offering top ups. Great restaurant decoration and attention to detail. We all enjoyed the food too. Highly recommend for a bottomless brunch. Thank you!

Called in on the off chance that we found eat after attending a wedding. We were made to feel very welcome, the service was great and the food delicious. We have already decided to return.

Food was awful. Burnt burgers, and buns, over cooked chips, Mash was like thick and stodgy. Salad! What salad. The male barstaff swore a few times, very blaze. Definitely not work £70 and that's just food . Not including drinks.

We often come to the lodge for drinks in the summer and sit by the lake and we love it. We’ve never eaten at the Lodge so my sons decided to treat me for Mother’s Day. On arrival we loved the look of the restaurant and the lovely wood burning fire. The staff were very friendly and looked after us well. The food was another matter! The starters were lovely but we all had the beef and it really wasn’t good. My husbands beef was burnt so was sent back and changed. The roast potatoes were under cook as were the parsnips and carrots. The Yorkshire puddings looked like flat cakes. To be honest it was very disappointing. We will definitely stick to drinks by the lake in future and not venture in to the restaurant again.

Went here for some drinks a few nights in a row, as it was near our holiday accommodation. The staff were so nice, the drinks were a reasonable price, it was a comfortable and friendly place to sit and chat and I got to see some cute dogs who popped in: Overall really good. Highly reccomend if you live nearby or are staying on the site round the corner. Would definitely come back if we were in the area.

Great venue, clean, tidy and extremely friendly staff. Went here for a family meal, really the only thing that let it down was the limited menu.

Met up with friends last night for a meal and I have to say the service and food leaves a lot to be desired for. Our table was booked for 7pm and we didn't get our starters until 8.10pm. We asked for a bottle of water for the table but 15 minutes later still no water and then had to ask again. We ordered the Hunters Chicken which had no barbecue sauce. I ordered a side portion of chips which didn't arrive until 25 minutes after my main course arrived and that was only after I had to ask twice where my chips was. Our cutlery wasn't replaced after our startes despite the waitress saying saying she will bring some more cutlery, so I had to go ask yet again. At no point was there an apology from the staff. The wrap that I ordered for my main course was tasteless so I hardly ate any of my food. One of our party said she was going to have toast when she got home as she was still hungry. We were never offered dessert and to be honest by that point I was tired of having to ask for things that should have been part of any restaurant experience. I can say however if you want to go somewhere for a drink it's lovely setting and I have previously had a burger off the bar menu which was nice it just took ages to arrive. Usually plenty of parking. Gravel surface but fine for a motorbike or wheelchair. Great staff, local independent business. Friendly staff. Nice outdoor seating near the lake. Menu seems to change quite a bit. Plenty of seating inside and outside.

We went here as we were staying at Hunters Moon. The service was great. Shown to a table straight away and she took our drink orders. I think the waitress name was Sam. I had a chicken dish and my partner had an 8oz sirloin steak with was £24! We also had some halloumi fries which were the best I have ever tasted, a salad which was huge and could have easily been a meal on its own and some seasonal veges. The meal itself was lovely. However the steak was not worth £24. The roast chicken with crushed garlic potatoes and asparagus was nice. The meal took a long time to come out. It didnt help that the table before us had to be redone as the waitress dropped one of the meals on the floor. Outside seating available. Had a lovely view of the lake and our cabin and is a very short walk away.

Lovely place, lovely staff. We were 15 mins late for our 7:15pm reservation due to traffic but we were still able to get seated, the starters took 40 mins to arrive and we left before our mains came due to waiting far too long to arrive by 9pm we Decided to cut out losses and paid our bill, not only because my 9year old couldn't stay awake any longer. As I say lovely place and lovely staff and the starters were good.

I have been at restaurant today for the first time with some friends, the food is very good and tasty and staff are very friendly. Deeply recommended! After the dinner we went to the pub as there was a band playing and we thought we could enjoy a bit longer and having some drinks. The barman refused to serve us but keept serving other guests. He justify that these guests have paid earlier a round when I saw the guest paying few second before by card. You have a big liar staff which differentiate the guests. I have been many times at the pub in the afternoon and I have never been discriminated as I was today. Very disappointed with the staff you have at night behind the bar. We have been at the bar for the first time at about 10:50pm and the barman refuse to serve us arguing the bar was closed, which we accepted. However we saw that he was serving other guest and they were paying at that time, which was during about the following 10 minutes after he told the bar was closed, but seems it wasn't for others, and I call this discrimination. As I cannot do separate comments to the restaurant and to the pub I decided to give a 2* instead of 1* due to the good experience we had at restaurant, which is unfair as the restaurant deserve a minimum of 4*.

Unfortunately very bad food, and even more unfortunate was the incredibly defensive response of the management when we asked about issues with our meals. (I’ve never heard of a restaurant threatening to phone the police because you complained about your meal before!) Along with a few of the dishes being totally inedible, we were also asked to pre order (larger table so totally fair enough) but still had to wait 45 mins for our starters, the last main coming out almost two hours after our reservation time. Issues with food happen, but awful management of the situation only compounded our frustration and lack of confidence in the venue.

Ok, seen as though you are not taking complaints seriously. Your staff were blasting music from 7pm to 11.45pm on Friday night. Considering you have residents on site staying at the 'luxury' lodges. Do you feel it was the best thing to do? I stand by the 1star. The staff did not simply care about others.

The place is so lovely and clean. The bread and dips where lovely but the main meal was a let down. I had the steak and complained at the start to say it was over done and then tried the onion rings which where pure grease. The pepper corn sauce was just cream and some pepper corns. I’ve never had a sauce like that so returned to the chef and was told it was made on site but as I’ve said I’ve never had a sauce like that before and my steak was medium rare! The manager returned the bill minus the steak which was welcome. I got blamed for slamming the door in her face! I’ve never been followed out of a place I’ve eaten at and was just shutting the door!

My wife and I are regulars. We would not return weekly (or twice a week) for over a year if it was not to our liking!

Waited over an hour for food that we had pre-ordered. Staff lovely, but manageress very rude and no explanation or apology for the poor service. Edit: I was one of those who thanked the staff... I also witnessed the other exchanges.. the manageress was rude and defensive with absolutely no provocation that I could see or hear. Perhaps a change of policy and being forthcoming with a simple "I'm sorry, we're working very hard to get your food out" would have appeased 🤷🏻‍♀️

Our waitress Codi was a gem..... she gave us a taster on the wine so I know what I would like for my meal. Fantastic atmosphere was amazing, the duck was brilliant. We had exspert advice from Adam on the bar side on alcohol choices! All together was a brilliant night 🌙

The staff were really lovely and polite. Food was good. On par for what you pay for. The bar next door was very loud but totally different to the Restaurent.

Only the four of us in the whole of the restaurant, so food temperature should not have been an issue.... However all our chips were luke warm to start with so two mouthfuls in and they were cold.The onion rings that accompanied our lunch were stone cold when the meals arrived. The steak meal was shocking for the price, no sides except chips and some leaves. The two staff who served us could not have been nicer but we were so disappointed after reading all the excellent reviews. Needless to say we left and had dessert elsewhere.
