We always get our fish and chips from Frydays as they are the best in Yate. Tonight however we were very disappointed. The large Cod, which is very expensive was smaller than small!!!! We will not buy from here again and will try another local fish and chip shop....any recommendations will be very welcome
Disappointing, embarrassing, diabolical service we experienced on bank holiday Sunday (25th May) completely soured what should have been a special occasion for my family.
I had pre-booked a table for midday and paid a £10pp deposit for our afternoon tea. We were ignored for around 15 minutes in the seated area queue while takeaway customers were continuously served before we eventually flagged someone down who wasn’t avoiding eye contact, to find there was no record of our booking in the diary. At no point did we receive an apology from any of the staff. The young waiting staff were directionless, and seemed unable to prioritise anything except the stream of takeaway customers.
Thankfully, a table was available for us, although it was not in the requested area near the play kitchen for our little one that I had tried to reserve. The table was set up for us while we sat, but no drink order was taken. It then took a further 35 minutes until 12:50 for our drinks order to be taken (after flagging down 2 people), which only arrived after our food did at 1pm.
Trying to order a cold can of Pepsi, we were told that the policy for drinks had changed and cans of drink were no longer included on the afternoon tea menu, even though the menu on the table still stated otherwise. As a gesture of goodwill given the mix up, it would have been appreciated to still offer us a cold drink instead of hot beverages or juice.
The service overall was chaotic and poorly managed. When we arrived at midday, staff were clearly overwhelmed by the takeaway queue and ignored seated customers trying to get their attention. By 1pm, the café was noticeably quieter, however the atmosphere was completely lacking. We overheard a hen party of 4 leaving, saying their experience had been terrible, and the table next to us walked out after waiting, entirely ignored. The queue for the toilet was also enormous at times with people snaking around the tables which doesn’t make for a particularly nice atmosphere.
It was also absolutely baking hot. As someone in their later stage of pregnancy, I found it very uncomfortable. There is no air con.
As someone who has previously enjoyed excellent service at the establishment, I was embarrassed to bring my family this time. While the food was plentiful and of good quality when it arrived, the entire experience was marred by the lack of service, apology, or any sense of priority.

The Star was my local in the early seventies, it was very friendly and did great food, so whilst out on my bike I thought I'd go for a drink and lunch.
The sign on the door said "a warm welcome to everyone". Apart from a good morning on entry it felt like a doctor's waiting room. The six guys taking up the bar space were non communicative and there was no food on offer.
I drank my pint and left. Shan't go back.

Had a bad experience with the people that go to this pub, classic ignorants/racists type of people. I will never go back, but the people at the counter were cool. One of the resident's pub dog pissed on my bag and the owmer instead of apologies to me, him and his friends were very rude and threatening me. Very bad feeling

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Fox and Maple while visiting family and friends, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment we arrived, the owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming. It genuinely felt like staying with friends.
Our room was fantastic value for money: clean, spacious, tidy, and had a lovely selection of teas and coffees. We had a great night’s sleep and really appreciated the comfort.
Dinner that evening was absolutely delicious, and to our surprise, there was a karaoke night happening too! We ended up staying, singing a few songs, enjoying drinks, and having an all-round brilliant evening.
We also stayed for the Sunday roast before heading off, and it was top-notch. Honestly felt like a proper home-cooked meal, full of flavor and heart.
Overall, The Fox and Maple is a fantastic village pub with a cozy, family-run vibe. Whether you’re popping in for a meal or planning an overnight stay, the value is excellent, the locals are friendly, and the staff make you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place that makes you wish you had one just like it back home.

Extremely slow service. Needs to put in a better work flow at the counter to speed up taking orders, making coffee, and serving cake. I would avoid unless you want a long wait when busy

I've not long been living in Yate, so I've been looking for a good Chinese takeaway.
Although this one wasn't terrible, it at the same time wasn't great. I ordered a chicken curry with chips. The curry sauce lacked and flavour and was very bland. It was almost paste consistency and had zero spice/heat. The chicken was frozen, processed cubes, and lacked any flavour, too. The chips were ender done, and the bigger chips were still a little raw and soggy inside.
It's wasnt a terrible experience, but not great. Will try again with a different dish and see what happens. ⭐️⭐️from me.

I've just popped in to order a takeaway to find that it's under new management. I've always had great food from here so was a little disappointed at first. Well that was totally unfounded.
We ordered a good selection including regular dishes and specials and not only were they great but even better than before. I personally had the Mix Bhuna Nawabi. The sauce was full of flavour and the meat was perfectly tender. I'll most definitely be going back again and sampling more from the menu.
Great service and really pleased to see this Indian takeaway is still producing fantastic food. Oh yes, and the yoghurt mint sauce is amazing with your poppadoms.
