Popped in for a few drinks, after a long day travelling really good friendly staff. Dog friendly even with the likes of our crazy dog Paddy. Though I didn't have any food, the menu was mouth-watering. Think I will travel down again and check them out. From Durham. Wish all the staff the best of luck with the future. Proper family run pub.

So despite being put in a difficult position by the previous owners and not being aware of my booking , Colin and Tara honoured the booking and were absolutely fantastic! We had a lovely buffet for my son's Christening, staff were all lovely and helpful... nothing was too much trouble. They are more than happy to have a chat and make everyone feel welcome. We will be back to have a roast as they looked fantastic! Thankyou all for making today as stress free as possible and I wish you all the best for the future of the Fox & Maple ❤️

What a lovely find, we visited here on a Friday evening as a couple with our 6 month old baby. The pub had the perfect level of atmosphere and the staff were so lovely and welcoming. The food was such good value and lovely. Living only 10 minutes drive away we will definitely be back frequently.

We came from London to visit family. The pub looks like a cute village pub, it had a nice open fire and the inside is furnished nicely and looks like a gastro pub. We arrived just before 9pm, the music was blaring 90s club music. We ignored it for a bit but it got louder and we couldn't hear each other talk at our table. I asked (very nicely) if the Proprietor (who appeared to be very intoxicated) could turn it down a little bit. He was very rude and said no way 'not being funny but it's a Saturday night and it's a pub and I will play the music as loud as I want' his wife was trying her best to turn it down but he was drunk and belligerent. There were around 5 people in the pub (probably because of how loud the music was). Shame to see and hopefully this review helps to support his wife to show him that this ISN'T what people want from a local pub on a Saturday evening. We won't be back.

We had a delicious lunch here this week. I chose the lasagne and my husband had the all day brunch. Good portions, good value, very tasty, served nice and hot. Quick service. Good environment with comfy seats in the dining area. Out the back there’s a nice beer garden with kids’ play area for warmer weather. Spacious car park. The staff were pleasant and the service was good. We will definitely be back for another delicious lunch!

Just changed hands. All your favourite pub grub, good portion sizes and nicely cooked. No gastro food. Nice to have a pool table, darts and other games. Garden and children's play equipment outside is good for keeping them occupied. And dogs allowed like most country pubs.

Thought we’d give it a try as it was between our friends and our house. Booked and went on Friday night. It was extremely quiet which made us query why the service was slow. Usually I prefer a non rushed meal but it took ages to ask what drinks and then serve them. The meal took quite some time to serve and the catch of the day wasn’t great. The steaks and fish and chips were good, although they had ran out of Cognac & peppercorn sauce, so we had to share! How they would cope if they were busy? The waiter was try to up sell all evening and didn’t provide a relaxing atmosphere. Would I go back? Regretfully no. Shame given its location with the ever expanding housing estate.

Disappointing. Arrived and stood in the doorway completely ignored, almost walked back out. Eventually taken to a large plain table with no furnishings. Seemed very bare. Place echoy and lacking atmosphere. No one paid us much attention or made us feel like being there. Food OK but I wanted to leave before it came so it was a bit eat and run.

Soo disappointed as we had been recommended this pub by friends Service lovely but the food was not good a medium steak came well done with a tiny blob of sauce on top ,chips were good However the fish and chips I couldn’t eat they realised this and to be fair straight away offered to cook another but I didn’t want it after tasting the first one and not wanting to eat after my husband had finished ! but they insisted so I had it and it was better but I really didn’t want it at that stage . Such a shame as the staff were really nice and the inside of the pub is lovely

The staff lovely and the pub is welcoming. They also have a good selection of beers now. The only reason I'm giving three stars today is because I think the food could have been better. Had steaks which were literally just that ....a steak on a rather large plate with a handful of chips. It really needed garnishing with perhaps a few oven roasted cherry tomatoes on the vine and a grilled mushroom for example. Perhaps even a homemade onion ring. Just needed something to pretty it up because the plate felt very empty for the price. My friend had the fish and chips which came with a little pot of tartar sauce and mushy peas (which I assume was homemade as peas had no consistency and looked more like soup), but he said they were tasty despite the off putting appearance. He did leave quite a lot of the batter because he said there was so much of it compared to the quantity of fish inside it and that it was overdone ..so a bit too crunchy to eat.

Cannot fault the quality of the food it was delicious, but the service was atrocious. We were a large table of 9 who had pre-ordered our meals as requested by the venue. After being seated for 40 minutes we were asked to place our order. We advised we had pre-ordered. 20 minutes later starters arrived. After being seated for 1hr and 45 minutes our mains arrived (after many asks to the serving staff) mains were slow to arrive and constantly we were reminding staff of missing items. We had to scavenge cutlery from empty tables around us. My brother in law asked for a pint of Birra Morretti it came almost instantly however it was a pint that had been given back to the bar for disposal by another customer as it was watered down and then served to him, not particularly hygenic. Again desserts were incredibly slow despite being a preorder. The gentlemen managing our table wasn't really interested in addressing our complaints just waved us away and offered us a 10% discount which to be honest really didn't make up for the over 3 hour ordeal. It really wasn't great service at all, and to be honest ruined our plans for a nice relaxed mothers day lunch. The kids with us were incredibly overwhelmed by the long wait and I don't blame them. Like I said, great food but service needs serious work!!

The pub itself was very welcoming and comfortable, the staff were polite and helpful. We were in a party of 4 and we all felt that the menu was very limited in choice and all ended up having the fish and chips which non of us wanted but felt there was no other choice, however the fish was lovely. We felt there were too many vegetarian options and a lack of meat based options. The bread and butter pudding was like a brick, a lovely flavour if you could break a piece off. Very disappointing overall, may try it again one day but not in a hurry.

Service was fine and friendly. Menu was very basic and more like a lunchtime bar menu. Glass my drink was served in was dirty and had old food stuck to the side of it. I asked for some mayonnaise and what was brought out looked like it had come from a previous table and had chips dipped in it already. I didn’t complain , u get reviews on what is served to my table. Just being honest. I won’t return. And have pictures to justify my review .
