Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Chequers Inn after a brilliant, if more challenging than expected, circular walk around the Avon loop (Hanham Lock to Keynsham Lock and back via Keynsham itself). We felt we had more than earned the excellent roast we enjoyed, made even better by the lovely service (shout out to Harvey, just back from South Africa! You were fab). Ox cheek croquettes were a highlight from the starters and our kids really enjoyed their burgers. Such a beautiful setting as well. We can't wait to go back.

We visited Chequers Last night. Had a great time food , service , ale & wine were all very good. I had the Beef cheek croquettes which were excellent & for main I had Ham, egg & chips also excellent. Other quests had the rib eye & fish & chips all the food was really very very good. It is so good to find a pub / restaurant with the quality of Chequers.

Great food from a menu with plenty of choice in a fabulous setting. Really superb, attentive service from Harvey & his colleagues . Plenty of outside space . Dog friendly too.

We went for a late Sunday lunch with a large group of 8. Despite it being busy, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Food was of a good standard. Just a few small things knocked a star off such as all the food arriving then having to wait a few minutes for cutlery, and only a faulty high chair being available despite pre-requesting one. But overall, a good experience.

Great child and dog friendly riverside pub-restaurant

We had lunch here and the lovely weather meant we were able to sit outside next to the river. The location is excellent and so was the food! The burrata was tasty and full of flavour! The service provided was first class by our excellent waiter, Max. Definitely go!

We have been a few times in the past but today will be the last time for a while, the mains were good but then we ordered two crumbles , we were brought two spoons and napkins and waited for our desserts, after waiting 20 minutes my husband went to the bar to enquire where they were to be told oh didn't anyone tell you there is only one crumble, we decided to pay and leave and then had to wait for the bill, we were then told sorry about the desserts the chef is struggling, well which one was it only one left or the other excuse, not good customer service!

Perfect riverside location. Food was tasty, but quite a few items were sold out. Staff are friendly, large carpark. Disabled lift available.

The main meals are delicious. The atmosphere and the location is fantastic. However, WARNING, the lunch time sandwiches are pathetic and should not be served. I could make something better than that. And for £10. Don’t waste your money.

This was my first visit to Chequers Inn, there were no outdoor spaces so we ended up inside which turned out to be a much better choice on a hot day like today! Both our servers, Charlie and Max were lovely and super helpful, the food was delicious and I enjoyed open windows and a view over the river. Felt like I was on holiday!

**Review:** I've been a regular at Chequers for some time, but my recent visit was extremely disappointing. My friend and I ordered two fish and chips, which came to £36. Unfortunately, the experience was far below the standard I’ve come to expect. First, when our meals arrived, we were told there were no mushy peas available. This wasn't mentioned when we ordered, and no substitute was offered, yet we were still charged the full amount. The portion of chips was small and undercooked, which was really disappointing. While the cod tasted alright, there was a noticeable difference in the size of our portions, leaving my friend hungry and dissatisfied. Service was another issue. It was a hot day, and the kitchen seemed busy, which we understand, but we weren't informed about the long wait time for our food. Throughout our meal, no one checked in on us, and we had to chase down staff multiple times for updates. This lack of attention left us feeling neglected and added to our frustration. I even sent an email to Chequers almost two weeks ago, hoping to resolve this privately, but I haven’t received any response. It’s disappointing to see this decline in both food quality and service at a place I used to love. I hope Chequers addresses these issues and makes it right.

Food was lovely but waited over 30mins for a roast. My partner had pork & asked for apple sauce, to be told they don't offer that!?! Will go back again but not in a rush.

Went for a ploughman's, because it looked nice on the Web site. To be told we don't do ploughman's it's seasonal. To which I stated how seasonal do you want, it's summer

We arrived and was seated within 5 minutes, we were given menus and then after 30mins I asked if someone could take our order , this was done within 5 mins of me asking, at no time were we told this is going to be a long wait, after an hour we were offered drinks on the house again was not told about the wait , people was walking out because of the long wait , after another 15 mins we were told that they had sold out of the beef which 2 of us had ordered , so one of us ordered the pork and one the chicken , thinking that our food was nearing being served , but no this took another 30 mins to come out and the chicken was delivered as a pork so had to wait again for my dinner to be served , the bill then came in with the beef dinners still on there , we challenged this and was told really did someone tell you that the beef was gone , at that point I just wanted to get out of there. Unfortunately we will never return

2+ hours for an order for 3 on a not very busy sunday, ruined my mums birthday, staff didnt think to check in with us but once during the whole time, shameful

Family lunch on the river bank, beautiful. Max looked after us from our arrival and until we left. Friendly, pleasant and helpful, Max made us all feel welcome. While he paid close attention to a dozen tables everything ran smoothly and efficiently under his watchful eye and attentive listening. Food and drink requests were all taken with care and were served in a timely manner. A very professional team of waiting staff and caterers all combined to make our visit a memorable occasion. We love coming to the Chequers. Today was a sunny beaute day and we hadn't booked a roast in advance but we were able to get a spot in the sun and have a lovely meal. Max was serving us, he was really sound about us arriving unprepared and looked after us. Had bangers and mash and it was great. Will definitely come back for the out door cinema event coming soon!

Had Sunday lunch. The beef was under cooked and tough as old boots. The veg was carrots cabbage roast potatoes and celeriac mash . Carrots and potatoes were ok but overall the meal and waiting time wasn't up to much. There are better pubs out there.

Admittedly, they ran out of Beef, however the waiter Max handled the situation perfectly. Delivered the news in a calm manner and came prepared with alternative options and a solution. Not many spots better to have a Sunday lunch on a warm Summers day!

We had a lovely family meal outside, the staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was excellent, and great portion sizes! Our 8 year old gave the meal a 10/10 review and particularly enjoyed the chocolate brownie! Thanks Max for the great service!

Overall group was dissatisfied with the food. Burgers were very average for £18. The chips in the metal bowl was 3/4 full which equated to a small MC donalds bag of chips. Wait time was very long between starter, main and desert. I personally enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding however majority of the group thought it was more of a dry sponge. The desert menu is confusing as it says salted caramel ice cream, honey comb ice-cream with the desert when it's 1 scoop. So it should say salted caramel and honey comb ice-cream. This is picking at fine details however overall unfortunately not a great meal.

Met with a friend for lunch - really enjoyed the fish and chips and the crumble and ice cream did not disappoint. Service was particularly good - Max was very attentive

Great location, but very busy. Not a place for a quiet drink (which is all we wanted). Very limited experience of the food - only a cheese board, which was more style than substance (I didn't know it was possible to slice celery so thinly)

The place has beenngoing down the hill for a while and I really don't want to come back here anymore. The food is extremely overpriced, but quality is low. Service is non-existent as they don't have enough staff. Apart from the location there is nothing good to say about the Chequers inn

Pre COVID used to love coming to this place, beautiful views, great food and always great service. Nowadays it gets worse every time I go. Most service staff don't seem to care (apart from the lady with multicoloured hair), long queues and slow service as not enough staff. But all this pales in comparison to how BAD and EXPENSIVE the food is. £35 for a 10 Oz sirloin, guys, hate to break it you but you don't compare with Pasture.....you are a pub, I thought I misread it at first, l wouldn't even dare to call you a restaurant. Tiny portions, overcooked burgers and even overcooked chips, crab salad ...with invisible crab I mean come on.... They are dining out on their location alone and trap unknowing guests into ordering their terrible, over priced food. Please whoever you lost pre-covid get them back, chefs, managers staff whoever, or if you are the same people people take some pride in what you are doing, it's embarrassing.

Spent a lovely day here as part of a wedding party. Perfect spot for the occasion - down by the water in a shaded spot - and excellent food and drink. The service was some of the best I’ve had. Friendly, efficient and attentive staff especially Max. We’ll be back!

Great day celebrating a wedding at The Chequers Inn - fantastic location, attentive staff throughout the evening with a special mention to Max for always ensuring our glasses didn’t run dry! We were very lucky to have such amazing weather too which ensured a beautiful day.

We love Chequers Inn and have been coming here since moving to Bristol a few years ago. The food is great, the location stunning and you couldn't wish for better service. It's our go-to place to take visitors - we totally recommend walking along the river to get there. All of the above is why we chose to have our wedding celebration here too - it couldn't have gone better. We had the area next to the river, a bar and super lovely staff just for us. Mikenzie, Max, Nathan & Max were super hospitable - thank you so much! We can't recommend Chequers Inn enough.

Surprisingly quiet (sunny weather, but during the summer hols I guess?) but food was top notch as ever. Good selection of beers (draught and fridge). Service (Tamzin in our case) was good, attentive, speedy but not rushing us at all - just right. Fish pie was very nice!

We had a wonderful time at the Chequers celebrating Rich & Deniz's wedding. A lovely venue and excellent service from Max and the staff. Such a happy time!

Very friendly staff, lovely chips and an unbeatable view

The chequers pub has a really nice waterfront location. My friend and I sat for a meal, the food was good, my steak was a 8 oz sirloin, my friend had fish and chips the steak was too rare and a very chewy for my liking. The staff were very good, polite courteous, and friendly on a nice evening it's a pleasant place to be. My only criticism was that the himalayan balsam has grown to such a height now between the dining area and the view of the river itself just spoilt it. A little more attention to that would be nice. Overall though we enjoyed it.

Beautiful venue on a sunny day. You can't beat it. The Sunday roast was decent. Mixed experience with staff, some very friendly some just dump drinks on your table without even making eye contact. Dessert took an hour to come. Would recommend though.

Nice air conditioned bar with helpful and friendly staff, but that was as far as the good bits went, the food could and should have been a lot better.

Had to wait for ages, it seemed a bit chaotic. Food was nice but portions too small. But overall had a nice time.

We went the Chequers for my husbands 40th birthday lunch and it was amazing! The food was great, the venue is lovely with a great view of the canal but the what topped it off was the staff! They were all so friendly and helpful particularly our waiter who unfortunately I didn’t catch his name. Highly recommended and we will definitely be returning!

Service was fantastic, staff lovely and helpful. The food was really lacking though, was really tasteless, meat tough and green veg was just wet bland cabbage. Real shame as the venue and atmosphere were great.

Visit The Chequers often and always get a warm welcome from staff. Love the choice of dining in or out (weather pending) and the option to take the dog if I wish. Even the dog gets a warm welcome! We have got to know Harvey over the last 12 months or more who is by far a happy, polite chatty member of staff and a credit to them.

Fantastic service by Harvey last night. Always enjoy our time at the Chequers, whether it's just a drink or a full meal. Harvey was genuinely so happy and attentive to our table.

We held my Husband's Birthday here a couple of weeks ago and had the best evening. Mikenzie was brilliant, very attentive, patient and helpful, she tried to make everything the best it could be and it was, all our family enjoyed it. The food was lovely, 'The best buffet food we've had' I kept hearing 😁. Bar staff were very pleasant, which makes a huge difference too. It is a really nice spot by the river too. I would recommend it highly. Thank you Mikenzie and all x

The food was ok but cold and the manager was very rude and she did not deal with my complaint appropriately.

Had a meal here with two others, the food came out a bit cold but the AM McKenzie sorted this for us with no issue. When we received all the food hot it was very nice, especially the tomato salad. Whilst sitting there for a couple more drinks we all commented on the amazing job McKenzie was doing whilst clearly understaffed, hope this place knows how much of an asset she is and she gets the support she needs! This would not have been 5 stars without her!

Really lovely. Was a work party of about 40 people. We ordered a buffet and drinks Positives: Really good food. Excellent location. Excellent service from our server Mikenzie and her colleagues. Area for improvement: Food arrived later than booked (about 30 minutes), kind of understandable for such a large booking but we did give plenty of notice.

Firstly, our drinks order hadn't arrived after waiting for 25 minutes so we went up to the bar to ask where they were. We were told that they couldn't find our table?!? So our drinks were left at the bar. We'd given them the correct table number. No apology given. We'd also ordered food so I checked that they'd be able to find us when that was ready and was reassured it'd be fine........it wasn't. Our order was delivered to the wrong table (accepted by the people on the table "as a joke" then given back to staff) The staff then delivered it to us after we waved them down! Awful service. Awful management - whoever was behind the bar last night 08/06/24. **Excellent response from the manager detailing what went wrong, why and what they're doing to rectify the issues. Refund offered - waiting to see if it materialises**

Lovely place for Sunday dinner food very good

This is our local and we are always coming back as the staff are lovely and the food is always fantastic. The menu changes often, which keeps us on our toes. The staff are always welcoming. The views of the river are beautiful and there is plenty of space inside and out. My only complaint is that the children's menu is a lacking a pasta option.

Such a gorgeous, friendly pub. We went with our two young kids who were both approaching meltdown - and although I’m sure that’s the last thing you want in your pub, the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming. The food was absolutely great and the views and space is just fab. Would highly recommended for families - although we’ll definitely be back for a nice quiet one without the children! I really enjoyed the food and the steak was cooked to perfection! I was a bit disappointed that only chips were served with the steak as either some peas or something like that. The sticky toffee pudding was nice, but I think custard should be an option as well as ice cream, or pouring cream?

Today 11 of us, all elderly arrived by boat. The table was booked from the boat but not the food. We ordered as soon as we got there and didn't have to wait too long. The food was very good and staff were excellent, all friendly. I would visit again

Beautiful setting next to the river. I've only given 4 stars solely on that parenting factor. This is not a place where parents of young children can relax, there's a river on 1 side and a road on the other. There is a fenced in part, but it's small and is packed with tables. If you're a couple or with adult friends, it's absolutely perfect. The food, what I've seen, looks very nice. The drinks are almost "town" prices. Unfortunately disappointing. The building itself is in beautiful location. Plenty of outside seating for sunny days. However, the service was terrible. Just about everything that the staff could get wrong, they did. A real shame.
