Just back from an amazing beef Sunday lunch. Great food, really helpful and efficient staff. Harvey was fantastic.

First visit to The Chequers Pub. Beautiful location on a lovely sunny day and the most delicious fish finger sarnie was consumed.

Upmarket pub with great selection of drinks, friendly staff. Riverside location with outside seating. The food we had was pretty good. Beer very good.

Nice fish and chips out on the balcony with my mum. Would definitely recommend and come back.

Far to busy for me and way to expensive for what you get...

I love going to this pub if just for a coffee. I went for fish and chips. £18 for a massive portion of cod and triple fried chips. The view was great. I feel like the batter was a bit too dark, darker than normal, but the flavour was good. Staff was very friendly. The second photo is from the second time we ate fish and chips there which was better than the first!

Located by the river Avon and a great place to go for a walk after a meal and pets are welcome

Lovely staff and setting. Prices are extortionate though especially for what is really basic pun grub on the whole.

Really enjoyed my Sunday roast beef lunch. Perfectly cooked and a generous portion. Harvey was very professional and attentive considering how busy the place was; great place to be on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Beautiful location, friendly service and a good selection of real ales and ciders. Don’t bother with the food though, we had fish and chips but the fish was small and crunchy!

Had a bad experience with their roast dinner a couple of years ago but gave it another go and have been back multiple times since and happy to say I would now reccomend. Very friendly staff, good food that you can tell care has gone in to and a beautiful location. Hoping for a ploughman's to make it on the menu very soon 😊!

Amazing service, amazing food and great atmosphere. Harvey served us, he was absolutely brilliant, explaining to us when there was a delay and just being so kind. He made sure we were ok throughout our 3 hours here.

Food is sometimes a bit hit and miss but good roast today. Staff always on point, and great table service from Harvey today, thanks for saving my gym-weary legs! L

Harvey was an amazing waiter. He made sure we had an enjoyable meal and was incredibly helpful and professional when there was a minor technical issue with our order.

Sunday roast disappointing , spring greens were frozen veg, cubes of carrots , swede, peas and broadband. Small old undercooked roast potatoes and thin gravy. Didn't complain as service was OK and didn't want to spoil the occasion.

Nice ambience and view but was disappointed with my meal. Had fish pie but apart from the king prawn on top I only found one miniscule piece of fish in it and it therefore only tasted of the potato and cheese topping. Although there was hardly anyone else in the pub it took quite a while for the food to come and my fish pie took so long that one friend had finished their meal by the time it arrived (maybe the chef was looking for the fish). The accompanying leek, pea and cabbage accompaniment was a nice touch though.

Charlie was a great host .. friendly funny and super efficient... a great asset to the place .. also the food was stunning g beat pasta I've had for many years washed down with a terrific red

We booked for our daughters wedding the staff food and service were excellent made it a special day thanks 👍

We had a lovely time today enjoying the sunshine, however the five of us left hungry as the vegetable servings were minute, basically 3 small roast potatoes, a few green cabbage leaves, some unrecognisable tiny diced veg and ONE carrot each!!!! Such a shame as we had been here before and the food was great! Please don’t send your customers home hungry! Would love to come back again!

The location is lovely. However the food was a bit disappointing. It took ages to arrive. We ordered stakes and they were cold..

We love eating here. Only giving it a 4 as the steak was quite tough and the crispy onions were missing from our servings

More choice i would say and I don't understand why we can't sit near the river to eat, we had to have drinks then move upstairs

Great location, atmosphere on a sunny day

So disappointed, would not recommend the roast dinner. It was the blandest and driest pub roast we have ever had. I hate leaving a bad review but this was so disappointing. I am not one to even add salt and pepper to my meals normally but there was absolutely no flavour in any part of the meal- the gravy was runny and bland, roast potatoes and chicken was dry and tasteless and the single half a carrot was a bit on the stingy side. 6 of us had a mixture of the beef and chicken, all had the same opinion. Such a shame!! They were dog friendly however which was nice and the pub itself is a beautiful spot, a drink in the summer sun would be lovely and we will definitely return for that!

Lovely food, venue and atmosphere can’t knock any of those. Max our primary waiter was lovely, warm and welcoming. After starters were taken cutlery was not replaced so when mains came asked member of staff (not max) for a new set of cutlery when mains came and unfortunately were forgotten about which after some time resulted in us pinching another set from a vacant table. Partners food was lukewarm by the time he started eating. This was the only let down, food was great tho!

Always enjoy visit to chequers. Food always good and lovely staff. The only problem was this time was the main evening menu only had 6 items to chose from and we struggled with finding something we fancied Nothing very inspiring . Fish and chips burger lamb hash sausages flat iron steak and plant based burger. Would have expected more from chequers

Lovely bar on the river. Warm cosy bar in the winter, riviera in the summer. Great spot

Recently visited and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The views are incredible and the atmosphere of the pub is very warm and inviting. Served drinks by Izzy, her beautifully bubbly personality really welcomed me, and later being served by Charlie and Giorgio was also a great pleasure. The food was delicious and even though I only went in for a light bite I still had an amazing trip.

We (2 adults, dog) dropped in for lunch today . Excellent service from Charlie our waitress, couldn't do enough for us. Water and biscuits for Ben the dog. Good food lovely views and a great place for a walk along the river. Didn't try the beer as driving but it's a youngs pub, so shouldn't be a problem!

Excellent rump roast beef with roasted potato /Yorkshire Pudding / Root Mash /cabbage and glazed roasted carrot plus very good gravy followed by a shared pudding and a drink each total under £30 a head - huge portion of well cooked food - impossible to fault the service from the whole team.

Great spot by the canal! Staff are friendly and really helpful. Only downside for the roast is the Yorkshires weren’t soft nor had a bit of crunch, tasted quite stale and the potatoes also tasted like they’d been cooked the day before and just reheated. Gravy was quite thin but not a massive problem. Pigs in blankets were spot on!

Had Saturday lunch with friends, had a lovely view from our window table, and as an added bonus dogs are welcome in all areas, and there’s even a dog corner with treats and water. Food was very nice and staff very friendly and we had excellent customer service, we will definetely be back as keen to try the Sunday lunch.

Food is average! Looks nice but every expensive for what you get.

sat on the balcony with my partner for a little bite, received wonderful service from charlie, who delivered our food swiftly with a massive smile. couldn’t have felt more welcomed by the staff, especially gorgio who offered a friendly chat and had a great sense of humour at the bar! having a pint with the crispy white bait was a lovely way to spend an evening! would recommend!

Good bits first, the waiters were friendly and attentive, and the place was nice. Unfortunately the sunday lunch was poor for the price £19, and took over 30mins to arrive. Pork was some kind of roll, the crackling was soggy, apple sauce tasted like it came from a squeezy tube, the roast chicken was a chicken breast (probably boiled in a bag), Yorkshire pudding was slightly burnt, and the roast potatoes weren't crispy, I got one carrot and a bit of cabbage as vegetables. Not great.

We love this spot, the chips are my partners favourite in bristol. The staff are always delightful and Charlie-Rose made the whole experience lovely.

Ordered drinks on a beautiful sunny Saturday down by the river, arrived within 5 minutes, no queuing just download pub app, ordered chips and courgettes in tampura batter also arrived within 5 minutes. Sat with dog and soon enjoying the day, magic.

Really lovely pub. Food is always great. Staff are friendly. Great views across the river. Plenty of space and cosy seating areas to choose from.

We went for lunch at the Chequers Inn on Saturday and the food was a confusing mixed bag. The plaice was very nicely cooked so someone in the kitchen can cook... Unfortunately the pork schnitzel was very over cooked, and hadn't been properly flattened / tenderised. It was tough and dry. Kids burger was very burnt on one side. We asked for a replacement which was provided but it was pink in the middle, which is probably not OK for a kids burger. Service was friendly and beer was nice. Overall I would not return for food due to the inconsistency.

Delicious roast dinner and great atmosphere in a quiet part of the city

I ordered the special which was plaice. Although large, the plaice was mostly skin and bone, but that's not unusual these days. It came with no vegetables except for a few strands of samphire on top of the fish as a garnish, so I ordered some winter greens to go with it. No prices were shown on the puddings menu except for prices for the drinks, so I declined to order a dessert.

Max and Izzy were fab! And the food was incredible 😋

Love this spot, food is lovely but even more than that the staff are exceptional - always super friendly and attentive, most recently our lovely server Harvey made a birthday meal a delight with his smiling face, friendly demeanour and attentive service. Also great approach to allergy management with regard to ordering etc. Very reassuring. Will defo be back!!

This is the second time I have visited Chequers Inn, each time I have been served by Max. 10/10 , he has a great personality, a good balance of being helpful, I mean genuinely helpful & not being too overbearing which can be annoying. Food was great too, however due to such good service by Max, I will be returning

The Chequers is a cozy gem with a warm atmosphere. Our server, Harvey, was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was exceptional! We enjoyed the chicken supreme, haddock and chips, and roast beef. Each dish was flavourful and beautifully presented. For dessert, we couldn't resist the apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding - both were divine. Highly recommend!

I’ve been home about 10 mins and wanted to write this asap… I’ve just been for a birthday meal here and I cannot believe how great it is (old school local that hasn’t been to the Chequers for a long time). The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was fantastic (we all had a different meal and agreed). Thank you for a great experience and you have a guaranteed 3 customers (and a Sproodle) that will visit more often

Had a pint here in their beer garden overlooking the river, was a really nice atmosphere and service was great!

Really disappointed with the January menu today. We went for the 3 course menu on offer in January for £22 for a special occasion . Husband ordered Scotch Egg which was fine. We then ordered mussels and was told it came with bread, it didn't so the server got us some which I had to ask for as complimentary. We ordered a side of fries with this which was just scrappy ends of potatoes. The mussels sauce also had no bacon in it just onion and garlic . No sticky toffee available on the menu and the other dessert they had ran out of shortbread for so we were given that for free minus the shortbread. I ordered the crumble which was the only option left and that came with ice cream instead of custard by which point I was tired of complaining so just ate it. The guy serving us was great and we have no issues with the service at all but the food was pretty much a bit of a disaster all around. With so much wrong and missing from the menu I would rather them have just emailed me and been transparent, then I could have booked another time and had a much better dining experience.

Fantastic Sunday roast! Our server, Max, was very attentive and helpful. Our table had the perfect view of the river Avon, I only wish we had time to relax beside the fire in the snug!

We absolutely love coming to the chequers. The service and food is fantastic everytime we come here. Harvey was an excellent server who made sure we were looked after the whole duration.

New head chef is great, menu is lovely. Keen and chatty service from Harvey as normal, Bartender Max was also fine. Great spot for a walk and a Sunday Roast, would absolutely recommend.

Our lovely waiter Max showed us to our table and made us feel welcome. Charlie brought our drinks and was friendly. We were very happy with our meals. I can highly recommend The steak cottage pie. It was really tasty.

On the 9th December a friend and I popped I for a coffee to take away as we were limited on time. We asked if takeaway was an option and told by a polite barstaff girl that it was. Another barstaff girl with blonde hair said she'd make them and the other girl continued to serve others. We waited over 10 minutes for our cappuccino and mocha. In that time the blonde girl had made them in cups for use in the pub, then served 2 other customers leaving our drinks to cool. Our drinks were transfered to takeaway cups, one was then put into a jug and topped with what looked like tap water from a tap next to the coffee machine, then milk pours on before handing to us eventually. When they were handed to us, we were told it was a cappuccino and hot chocolate. When we questioned this, we were told she meant mocha. We walked out with barely warm, certainly not hot drinks. Very disappointed with this experience. We should have been served and given our HOT drinks before this person should have taken any order from another customer. I don't think using tap water, leaving our drinks to sit and swapping from one cup to another is acceptable. I did Email them directly, but no reply at all. Not great customer service.

Really nice pub with a great atmosphere. Service from all members of staff was great, checking up on us to see if we needed drink refills and clearing the table at suitable times. Unfortunately a little disappointed with the burrata, a dish that wasn't advertised as a salad but unfortunately wasn't what a few people were looking for, but others said that it was enjoyable. Plenty of drinks options and food was prompt and of good temperature. For a festive meal the table wasn't dressed very festive, although decor on the table wasn't bad at all, and did receive a lovely card from the staff.

Shame about the food here! Such a lovely location and views are great, but I just wish there was more choice on the menu and they’d up their game on quality of food. Super over priced for what it is. Eaten here a lot as it’s very local but always disappoints and made the mistake of eating there again tonight. Not again. Had sausage and mash, sausages tasted odd, mash was brown with very strong odd taste and cabbage also had a weird taste, like cheese or something. My husband had a burger which was also below average.

Great food, amazing service. Would recommend the Bavette steak sandwich!
