First visit. We sat in the small bar area but noticed that all the other diners on the day sat in a lounge opposite. The bar is cosy, perhaps the difference was table service in the lounge but as we were the only ones in the bar we in effect also got table service! Lunch was only from the set 2/3 course menu. Staff very friendly and helpful. We ordered whitebait and sweet potato hash as starters, both were done well. Mains were the rump steak (an additional £4) and fishcakes (trout and haddock, perhaps an odd mixture but moreish ). Quality excellent. The steal local and dry aged, cooked exactly to liking, and really was tasty and tender, came with 2 eggs! The 2 fishcakes were equally excellent. In all a filling lunch! Because we sat in the bar the service charge was only added to the food element - what a great example of good hospitality. Would return.
Have eaten here several times and never had a bad experience
Good food
Good service
Menu changes often enough to warrent another trip
Also theme nights too
Loved the tapas
The food was exceptional and the service was even better ,if that is possible.
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits the isle of Wight as in my short stay here on a work trip this was the highlight of my stay 😀 😄,
Popped in on a quiet sunny March time. It had a few customers which grew in numbers during our time there. We had a lovely greeting, and teh quality of service was kept up during our visit. The food was tasty and reasonably priced
Visited earlier in the week and booked an 8.30pm table a couple of days in advance, on the day we received a call from the restaurant asking if we could move the time to an earlier slot so the chefs can clean the ovens... though thinking it was a strange ask we agreed to the ask.
When we got there we had a decent enough meal, where we were served by the same lady who called us earlier in the day. We ordered a bottle of wine with the meal which arrived corked and was told I would need to open it myself. OK, again strange but we did it without complaint.
Once we finished the meal we moved to the bar area for a couple of drinks (before 9pm), we sat and watched the same waitress start to close all of the blinds in the place and hovering over people's tables for anything she could see was finished with. By the time we got to 9.30 she came over to all the tables being used and asked 'are you finishing up?' we said not yet as we had only got some new drinks.
People obviously felt uncomfortable as other tables did finish up and leave after that, leaving us as the last table. As soon as that was the case the waitress then came back to our table to tell us 'just to let you know that we are the last ones at the bar now'.
So we basically were hounded out of the place by 9.45pm! We finished our drinks and started walking out, guess who followed us with the keys... yes the same super waitress who locked up as soon as we were through the doors. Lovely send off!
What was supposed to be a nice meal out ended up being a pretty unpleasant experience. Shame as people have said good things about this place but if that is how the staff act then I wouldn't waste your cash there. There was obviously a plan to get people out as early as possible so the staff could finish up and go home, starting with the phone call.
Shocking experience all round.
Was walking to go and get a breakfast at weatherspoons when we came across this cafe and decided to give it a try instead, so glad we did. Lovely, freshly cooked breakfast that was just the right size, service was great from the two ladies and the offer to refill our tea pot was greatly appreciated.
A VERY LUCKY FIND
We couldn't believe how lucky we got with the food here, considering how bizarrely empty the town was on a Saturday afternoon.
Between us we had the halloumi burger and goats cheese salad with a side of chips. All very, very delicious. We said if we ever know anyone going to Shepton Mallet we will tell them to come here 😊
2 Night stay. Nice, quiet location. Wonderful woman/staff. Very welcoming & informative regarding the area. We had the double room (4). It was very tidy. Only issue was, there was an old thick dirty cobweb behind the armchair in the room and also black stuff on the walls here and there. Our Continental breakfast was really nice. If you wanted a cooked breakfast you have to pay extra. We did not use the bar.
Soft matrass. I slept well but my wife did not. (Hard to please everyone with a matrass). We did not use the tapas style menu.
