The manager went to make me a special cuppichino. They don't serve that, really. He surprised me to bring me a nice one. The food was good, but the portions, especially the veggies, were a bit small, but the food was tasty and healthy, not too oily. I definitely will visit them again with friends.

Great pub to go for food on a Sunday (or any other day for that matter). One of our regular places to go for food. Staff are great and very friendly and the food and drinks are reasonably priced. Classic pub food!

I can only endorse all that was said by the previous reviewer. Really good to go to a proper village pub that caters for everyone. Nice pleasant bar with friendly welcoming staff. The dining area is really tidy. The food is genuine honest pub food, not pretentious in any way. Well cooked and presented, then there is the generosity of the portions, quite remarkable and such good value. The people in this village are so lucky to have this place.

This is a return visit justifying an excellent review. Jolliffe Arms is a wonderful pub with nice people, excellent service and truly good food. The landlord has staffed his pub with excellent people who are welcoming, diligent, hard-working and friendly. The food is very highly recommended - good choices on the printed menu and excellent specials which are hard to resist. Lots of food choices means groups with varying dietary needs will not be disappointed. And the cheesecake desserts are made in-house and delicious! In my opinion, Jolliffe Arms should be used as a template for success running a great neighbourhood pub.

I was visiting the area and my friends booked a table . A busy Saturday evening and this is clearly a very popular local pub. Fabulous pub food and very well prepared. I will certainly visit again when I’m in the area 😋

Lady behind the bar was rude as soon as we arrived didn’t greet us, I asked if they were doing food and she said very abruptly “only roast” as if I should of known, she then pointed us to a seat and then said we were sat in the wrong place, kept staring at us and then talking to the other members of staff, however when what I assume was a regular customer arrived her whole demeanor change super smiley and chatty, not somewhere me and my partner will be returning

The food was excellent. Shame about the glasses which drinks were served in. So so dirty. Please review this’s as everything else was great

We had a hearty pub lunch here. There was a great variety of choice on the menu and specials board. It took us a while to choose from all the options. There are a few vegetarian dishes. The portion sizes are very generous. There is also an option of a smaller size meal on some dishes. I always find a good test is how good the chips are when eating out. The chips here were home cooked and amazing. I normally can’t eat them all but I finished the lot. The cod was very good. All four of us enjoyed our meals. The prices here are very reasonable. There was such a warm and inviting feel to the place and great atmosphere. It seems this pub is popular with the locals. Very good and friendly service from the staff. There is a dog friendly section you should ask for when you book. We had decided to do the Kilmersdon colliery incline walk before having a pub lunch. Such a lot of history here. Also the land of Jack and Jill with a well outside the local school. A really lovely place with some great walks and views. Then this lovely local pub to finish up in after your walk.

It has been wel over 20 years since I last ate here, and it will be at least another b4 I do again. I ordered the plaice as I very rarely eat this at home The piece of plaice was the smalletst portion I have ever seen The breadcrumbs were nearly black & in hindsight I should of send it straight back, but the place was baced & I did nt want t cause a scene Neither the waitress or the bosses asked how are food was even though I left over half A very very poor experience

A nice local pub. The staff are really nice. There is a nice, friendly atmosphere. The beer is under £4 a pint and always very nice. The food is well priced and pretty tasty. I had the large steak and ale pie. It was more like an oggy. It was massive and only £12. We like coming here for an end of week cstchup with a large cheesy chips and pint.

Very good food, plenty of choice for alcohol, friendly staff and a very nice atmosphere. Would recommend wearing a few extra layers as it is quite cold inside but they kept the wood fire going but still on the cold side. Highly recommended though and will certainly return again.

Really superb meal from start to finish , if your looking for a proper portions of really good food this is the place to go. It was really busy which is a good sign. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed. Definitely will be back shortly, keep up the good work you deserve great success.

Lovely pub, seems very popular, lovely staff, very busy, food orders were huge, nice if you are big eaters, large table by us left a lot saying it was too much, maybe smaller is needed. Had the curry, medium in taste and a big poppadom, great big chunks of chicken, would of been better if smaller or even strips of chicken, not too exciting, wouldn't order Curry again.

A traditional village pub. Nothing ostentatious or gastro here. It's in a beautiful location and the interior is lovely. Situated next to the church the views are peaceful and calm. Food is proper pub grub, well cooked and enormous portions. We shared a steak and Guinness pie and it fed two of us with chips and veg. There's a skittle alley and apparently Sunday lunch is outstanding. I'll be returning and making sure I book!

Website claims they are open from 12pm. HA! 15:37pm and still no sign of life. Have walked for miles today all with the hopes of a clear, refreshing beer and some tasty grub. I’m utterly disappointed and bitterly depressed. Goodbye cruel world.

Good service.. welcoming.. food could improve. We arrived at 5pm having been sure we saw online that they were open all day. I think an update is needed on Google. The barman, great chap, let us in early with a warm welcoming. Told about the specials and we're looked after. We ordered the staple British meal, Fish and Chips. The fish was good and the batter fluffy BUT, the peas were raw, uncooked and the chips the same! I rarely write reviews but felt I had to. Please take time to cook the chips thoroughly... and the peas! Blimey.

Met up for lunch with friends and were very impressed with this lovely pub. Warm and welcoming with friendly staff, a good menu with something for just about everyone. We all had a different choice of staters and mains, the food was well presented, very fresh and served piping hot - and all so tasty! We shared 2 puddings which were truly delicious and the bill was less than we'd anticipated, to be honest it was so good we would have paid more 😋 Definitely one to visit again and happy to recommend. Thank you for a great lunch.

We arrived just after 5pm on a Saturday afternoon; looking forward to visiting a cosy village pub. The pub was empty but for a few locals sat at bar. Cosy fire burning but told we were unable to sit anywhere other that the 1 stark table by the pub telephone as all tables were “set for dinner”. We felt most unwelcome and uncomfortable. Will never revisit. Shame.

Fab meal tonight with my family for my Birthday. It was our 1st visit and we will most definitely be returning. Service was excellent, food was simply amazing. Such a lovely pub with a nice relaxed feeling.

Lovely large portions. Good quality food

I am a regular visitor to this pub, so decided to choose this as a venue for my birthday meal with my family. Everyone's meal was fine - except mine, which was inedible. I ordered Hunter's Chicken (which was merely a chicken breast with a bit of glutinous barbecue sauce over it - I.e. not the usual recipe for Hunter's Chicken). The main problem was that the chicken was so tough and rubbery that I could hardly cut it, let alone eat it. I mentioned this to our waitress, who erroneously reported to the chef that it was undercooked (NB this is NOT what I said - if anything, it was overcooked!). I am a quiet person who rarely complains. But, Instead of an apology or a replacement meal, or a small discount on the overall bill, the Manager obstinately talked over me and argued that the chicken was not overcooked. His ignorance and discourtesy were unbelievable, as he stood and argued that the chicken was cooked through, even though this was never at any time the issue! Out of embarrassment, we paid in full. We will never go back to this awful place. We will urge friends and family to do likewise.

Just got back from Sunday lunch at the Jolliffe. Amazing service, super food, huge portions, friendly staff, great atmosphere and very sensible prices. A proper village pub that stays true to what a village pub should be. Well done, we shall be back!!

The Joliffe Arms is a wonderful village pub - and the only pub in the village! They serve the usual Butcombes beer and Thatchers cider along with a selection of other beers and ciders. But come for the delightful service from the staff and the really good food. The steak and Guinness pie was filling, flavourful and tender (I would choose the new potatoes over the chips). Something to look forward to! It is a reflection of how good a pub this is that they always seem busy. Very highly recommended.

Stumbled across this pub whilst out on a walk and it was a delight. Great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and good food. Will definitely return.

I visited as a member of a large lunch group, booked in advance with good comms by email. The food was really good and portions were generous. You won't leave here hungry. Veggie options were good and the steak went down well. Beers were Butcombe, Rare breed from Butcombe and Doom Bar. Staff were freindly and nothing was too much trouble. We had elbow room at the table and a big log burner to keep us warm. I'll be going back next time we're in the area

Great selection of beers, good quality home cooked food with large portions in a warm buzzy pub environment, just great, well done Alan & your team! I couldn't recommend this place enough, from a lovely building inside and out along with loads of history on walls and a lovely welcome when you enter. If I'm honest I shouldn't of had a starter for the price it would of done me a meal, than the main 'can you say food baby' I couldn't finish and pipping hot. Great choice on the menu I'd eat everything on it, and the price is excellent for anyone's budget. It your pub food cooked really well and I mean really well. Great on your own, with family or a couple highly recommended I will be back maybe just a main cause the dessert looked like I'd blow 😋 xx

Arrived on spec without booking and managed to get a table. The food was excellent would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a meal out. Though I do recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment. Will definitely visit again and possibly with friends in tow!!

Not a bad pub by any means but felt a little too 'local' for our liking. Parking along the road only, but the drinks prices were very reasonable. Staff were lovely too
