The Village Cafe in Mendip

Stopped in here for a snack and ended up having a roast beef dinner! It was delicious, portion size was excellent and everything was well cooked with a really good selection of vegetables. I'd highly recommend this cafe and will definitely come back again!

On a rammed and rainy day in Clarke's Village, and an impossibly long queue in Cafe Nero's, I wandered around for an alternative... The Village Cafe to the rescue! Next time, I'll just head straight there. Table service with a smile, tasty coffee, and very agreeable crumpets with butter = happy me.

Had Full English breakfast with extra black pudding and mushrooms. Excellent A++++ Quick service with happy chatty staff. Brilliant 👍

Had a breakfast here in between Christnas. Lots of customers, had to go upstairs which was fine. Food was hot. Staff cheery and chatty.

Upon entering the cafe, we were greeted by a local lady, it appeared that she had been sitting in the cafe for sometime as her table was clear, she was hassling most of the customers, it was clear she was lonely but we felt the staff could've asked her to move on, she was loud and bothersome. We waited around 20minutes for one of the waitresses to come and take our order, they were busy chatting between themselves and drinking cans of drinks at the till, I wanted to go up to the till but a sign read to the customers that we needed to be patient! The food came quick! However, the bread roll that came with our soup had mould on it, the waitress took it away and replaced it with a completely different type of bread roll. The soup was hot but the fumes from the soup actually made my eyes water, when tasted, there was so much vinegar in it, we couldn't eat it! A total waste of money! Dissatisfied and disappointed are only two words without being rude! Looks like they don't care about any negativity, telling a customer to eat elsewhere shows they don't want to improve on anything!

Nice café, waitress service was quick and the food is freshly cooked. Tables close together, a small drawback if you go there carrying shopping.

My wife and I went in for lunch, we sat there waiting 10 mins to be served 2 other couple came in and the waitress served them straight away, so we walked out, won’t go there again and won’t recommend it either.

The waitresses are waiting to take your order before you have had time to look at the menu properly. Put me right off as I can't stand anybody looking over me

The food itself was nice and the table service was great. The cafe was clean and very welcoming. Only problem is that the "full english" is not really a full English when you have to pay extra for hash browns extra for tomatoes and extra for mushrooms.

Myself and my dear nan after a long walk around the local village decided that we felt peckish and needed a bite to eat. We came across this establishment and decided to give it a go. When entering the cafe it appeared crammed and had a lack of seating downstairs. There was no signage to say that extra seating was upstairs. However I don’t feel I would trust the stairs as they made quite the ruckus as people walked down them. My dear nan and I browsed over their menu. Must say not the largest I’ve seen so did not take us long to decide our meal. To our shock you had to pay by card before your meal? I fear this may be due to people running out after eating theirs and I find this rather strange? My dear nan had a roast of the day. Well if you can call it that. She may as well been served Brussel sprouts in gravy as there was a serious overpopulation of these on the plate and a lack of everything else. The dinner it self looked like a microwave meal. I decided that I would sample the bacon, egg and chips. The chips appeared luke warm. The bacon over cooked and hard and the egg was disappointing. It would never win a marathon due to it being a non runner. Once finished our meal we decided to leave the establishment. This took a lot of effort trying to weave through the chairs and people sitting at them eating their meals. It is safe to say myself and my dear Nan would not be returning to this establishment.

Lovely home cooked meals, very friendly and helpful staff, absolutely huge portions very good value for money, the puddings were delicious although unsure if homemade 🤔 very busy cafè but plenty of seating, although would be good if cash payments were accepted upstairs too. Would recommend and we will continue to visit.

Me, my husband, my daughter and son in law visited this cafe today. We were going to do some shopping at Clark’s Village and decided to have a fry up first. The cafe was clean, small downstairs but there was extra seating upstairs. They allowed some people with a dog to go upstairs so that’s great for those who have a pooch with them, there seemed to be plenty around today at the village. The food is reasonably priced. You can buy extras, like tomatoes, mushrooms etc for 99p. The food was great, we all really enjoyed it. It was filling and tasted great so they’ve managed to keep the price competitive and still keep a good level of quality, which is getting quite difficult to find these days. We will definitely visit again next time we are here. I’m a bit fussy with my fry ups and I really enjoyed it. Give it a visit

Always pop in when shopping in Street, we go early for lunch as always busy and being on the smaller size can only seat about 20 people downstairs but has more room upstairs. Very good service with a good selection of hot food and drinks and a selection of cakes, Basic decor but don't let that put you off going in. I would definitely recommend it Steve & Sue

As a family we used to eat here all the time but the menus got smaller prices have gone up loads.. And after paying 8.99 for a burger 2 days ago that had poor pattys slimey lettuce, I have to say I'm more than disopointed with our last visit.

All day breakfast reasonably priced, lack of real butter on toast however and a complaint around swapping an item due to the increased price of bacon, due to inflation. Staff generally pleasant apart from the lady whom served us who appeared to 'rush' us whilst waiting for my partners mother and was demanding card payment. Hash browns are an integral part of a cooked breakfast in this day and age, and should be included as such, not as additionally paid-for item.

Friendly staff, plenty of choice for a vegetarian, I had a vegetarian All Day English breakfast (which was all cooked separately from the meat), absolutely delicious. My partner had a non vegetarian full English which he thoroughly enjoyed, and they even accommodated my fussy daughter with a jam sandwich (not on the menu). Definitely recommended, thank you

Lovely breakfast at this very tidy and friendly cafe just outside Clarks Village in Street. Breakfast was really good value, piping hot, properly cooked with quality ingredients and was lovely and tasty. The staff were attentive and friendly - wish we lived closer! :)

Excellent food friendly people always mad welcome

Nice little cafe but other than the coffee, which was ok, the cheese, tomato & onion Quiche my sister & I both ordered was a big let down. We were served an enormous portion with chips & salad, but it was like eating scrambled egg as it was undercooked & there was no tomato cheese or onion in the quiche. So basically we did not get what was advertised. We both would have preferred to have had a small slice that was tasty & had filling. Staff were friendly enough when you could see them. Will not be returning.

Great place for lunch after being dragged around the shops. We sat upstairs and the food quality is very good, hot with quick and pleasant service. I definitely recommend this café.

Was extremely pleased with my first ever order today from The Village Cafe that was delivered promptly via Uber Eats. It arrived fresh, hot and full of flavour. My husband and I have eaten at this welcoming cafe for years on every visit to Street’s outlet. Situated a stroll from the actual village outlet, it has ground floor and upstairs seating. This recent visit all the tables positioned to make one feel comfortable during these Covid times, adequately spaced. The menu has not really changed over the year as there is no need to. There is something for everyone including children. All cooked freshly, nicely presented and good value for money. If you request a certain item to be cooked as you like it, they accommodate. You are never rushed and one can pay by cash or card. The toilet facilities are clean and tidy, however on the upper floor. We are so pleased that this friendly cafe has remained open and long may it continue to do so. The present owner has been there 17 years. Would highly recommend a visit.

We went to the village cafe as we no longer go to Wetherspoons and decided to support local businesses wherever we go. Good decision on our part, the cafe was small and very clean. I am assuming that due to COVID they were operating table service which was fast and efficient. We had two full English breakfasts and a bacon bap. When the food came out it was piping hot and very tasty. Finally, the waitresses polite and efficient. Will definitely visit again.

Been coming here for years and it is the highlight of our visit. Breakfast sandwiches are very filling and tasty, drinks are spot on. Always service with a smile and we are made to feel very welcome. Looking forward to our next visit.

The Village Cafe’ is immensely welcoming, the staff catered to our every need and were polite and friendly. Food was top notch. Highly recommend for those who want a delicious piping hot meal.

I went here with a friend for coffee and noticed how clean and fresh it was inside. The coffee was great, best latte I have tasted in a long time. Looking at the menu I could see that there were plenty of homely cooked choices for breakfast, lunch and snacks. The prices were very good too. The service was prompt and the young girl serving was friendly and professional. I will definitely come again and have a meal next time.

Well even though a cooked breakfast comes with fried bread or toast and butter I asked for bread and butter instead to find out I got charged 45p for q slice of bread with the most skimpy amount of butter but I also noticed after paying there was no tomatoes no hash browns no black pudding and no mushrooms yet I got charged £6 for that yet I went to somewhere the other day and had everything for a cooked breakfast and tea for the same price I won't be recommending this place I will be informing people and friends on not to go to this terrible cafe

Ordered a full breakfast £5.99 and a milkshake £2.00 that should of came to £7.99 but coz I had normal bread and butter they charged me 45p extra on top of the price but toast or fried bread comes in the full breakfast like they love ripping people off 🤦🤷 I wouldn't recommend this place....

Spent 15 minutes waiting for someone to take our order. We did check that it was table service only. Decided to leave when the waitress took an order from people who had only just arrived. It was a shame because the food looked ok.

Visited the Village Cafe Tuesday 29/6/21 Its is very clean, with very polite and helpful staff. The service was absolutely excellent and good value for money, potions were very generous, everything freshly cooked to perfection and served to perfection. My wife and I highly recommend the establishment and when visiting Street again will eat nowhere else. The food outlets at the Clarks Village Outlet look very expensive, poor choice and very poor value for money compared with this establishment.

Walked in and was greeted and shown a table and given menus, so all well so far. After deciding what to eat we waited nearly thirty minutes to be served and nothing, the staff were all too busy chatting behind the counter and ignoring us. We got ourselves together and walked out, they never even noticed ! Not surprised we were the only people in there. Luckily we found somewhere around the corner that was excellent !

I had a lovely and extremely well priced ham, egg and chips. Cooked to order and fresh! I don't know what more I could I ask for! Passed this place many times and I've lived in Street all my life; to get a boring old sandwich but truly the value and quality exceed the price I paid for what I received. I would highly recommend the place for a light bite. Just an additional note, I forgot to to scan in but was warmly and promptly to leave a number or use the app. Very vigilant on Covid-19 procedures. Whilst arriving I could hear people leaving very satisfied which being a first time visit for myself, was very reassuring. Tables are clean, well spaced and very safe. Will definitely return for a lunch break from Clarks village!! And just a quick walk up from farm road from the zebra crossing!! Just wish I took a photo! Will be back in January 2021!! Lovely cafe right next to Clarks Village - local not a chain and a friendly feel. Well priced, quick service and excellent jacket potatos/ham, egg & chips. Staff were good at cleaning between customers and taking COVID-19 tracking details. Best spot for lunch or breakfast if visiting Clarks Village.

After walking around the shopping village we needed a snack and drink. We like to support local businesses and This Small Cafe did us proud. The staff were very helpful, and friendly. We and our Dog were made very welcome.

We wanted to eat away from the shopping village and ensure that money went into the local community. No pretensions to grandeur here but what you do get is good honest food. We had baked potatoes with a very generous salad. Everything was very clean and staff were friendly. It's cash only and it provided a break from the chain cafes.

WOW. I don't think I have ever left a cake before on the table and today was the first, yes I could of complained but surely you would expect a cake to be fresh not dry. Really disappointed 😟

Waited over 45 minutes for bacon baguette and toasted tea cake. When queried told they were making it fresh!!! Tea now cold. More fat than bacon (microwaved) on baguette. People arriving after us served and left. Won't visit again.

I phoned beforehand just to check dogs were allowed. They are but only upstairs. When I got there they were very friendly and welcoming. Lovely food, lovely coffee :-)
