Maybe just an unfortunate experience but has to be one of the worst lunches I have ever had. Ordered a roasted Vegetable and Hummus baguette. The bread was stale and had been toasted beyond edible, the roasted vegetables were cooked to mush and the hummus was runny.None of the staff checked in on how the meal was and in a party of friends in lots of conversation so mentioned it quietly and politely to staff at the end. No offer of a refund but did receive an apology.

Friendly service, nice seat by the window to watch passers by. Our sandwich and soup was fresh and the choice of home baked caked plentiful. It was a good choice on our part to call in for a pit-stop but were slightly surprised by the £26.00 cost. Nonetheless it was a popular little eatery and the attention to COVID-19 guidance was in evidence and reassuring.

Visited today with my old school friend and we were looking for a nice place to have lunch. We hit the specials board and ended up doing 3 courses it was so good. We had soup of the day which was fish and really nice, then we had the xmas lunch which was amazing value and really tasty proper xmas tastic. Then we did sticky toffee dessert who was also lovely. This place was brilliantly priced, great food and top old school service.

Historic market Towns like Frome often have over priced shops and cafes to capitalise on the tourists which is fine if the quality of the food is in line with the prices which is not the case here. I opted for the £6 tuna sandwich with a salad garnish, the salad consisting of one small lettuce leaf, two segments of cucumber and tomato with a dollop of cheap coleslaw. As for the sandwich itself the filling consisted of a rather thin spread of wishy washy tuna mayonnaise on a rather dry bread, not nice at all. Two of our party had cappuccino's which didn't even fill the cups and were only lukewarm at best. Admittedly the place was busy with many people ordering hot food which indeed looked nice, I can only comment on our experience and hope this is not the norm.

On entrance we saw the place was very clean. After ordering a drink we perused the menu which we discovered was expensive, especially for the likes of egg on toast at £5.55 which is so over the top. Two ieces of bread and two eggs cant even cost £1.10 so its such a shame some people have to take the ‘P’

The restaurant itself looked very nice but the waitress was full of moans and groans about 'how hot it was'. I tried to be cheery with her but she continued to complain - okay we all have a bad day. There was crockery left from the previous customers. She took some saying she'd come back for the rest, then tried to add serviettes to the plates left behind for our use. We explained they were dirty/used, but she argued they were clean. We tried to explain but she insisted they were fine and refused to listen, unconcerned that we didn't want previously used plates. We left.

Five of us went the this Restaurant for a quick Lunch, 1 had the Bacon and Egg Sandwich, 2 had a Bacon roll each my Wife had a warm Cheese Muffin and I opted for the Sausage with Onions Sandwich. To be fair and honest 4 of the group said they liked their Food. My Sausage Sandwich was absolutely awlful, I not sure where they get their Meats from but I would definitely change the supplyier....and the Chef. The Sausage looked like it was cooked from Frozen and was also full of Gristle, the Onions I’m not sure what they’ve done with those but it was like eating Straw SO couldn’t eat any of it. not an experience I will go though again, that’s for sure. Not good!

I visited The Settle with my mum recently and was really impressed, both with the helpful, accommodating staff and the delicious food. I had a lovely cheese and mushroom omelette which was huge - no need for chips! My mum had a prawn mayo jacket potato which she really enjoyed, quite a feat as she usually has a very poor appetite. Both meals were piping hot too. The restaurant was virtually full but service was still excellent. We also couldn't resist the cakes on display when we paid the bill, so had two to takeaway - both were delicious, especially the carrot cake! Would highly recommend this lovely restaurant in the very pretty market town of Frome.

Recently I’ve been disappointed with the standard of cream teas in Somerset, but not this time. My criteria for a “good” cream tea is large, homemade scones that are soft but not doughy or crumbley, a choice of fruit or plain scones, plenty of jam and plenty of cream. For a modest price I had not one but two scones. They were delicious and just the right consistency. Also there was a choice of fruit or plain scones. ( By the way, the cheese scones here are excellent too). Two flavours of jam with plenty of fruit flavour, and a generous portion of clotted cream with “crust” ( very important). Choice of teas to go with the scones. It was a very enjoyable experience.

The food in the evening here really is excellent from the canapé's to the mince pies and everything in between! (We were a group out for a pre Christmas meal). Service was friendly and efficient so it is surprising that The Settle isn't highly rated in Frome; a forgotten gem perhaps? It probably doesn't help that the evening dining is upstairs so the restaurant doesn't look open from downstairs but it really is worth going. The only downside was the single Christmas CD on repeat! Other eateries in Frome are better at publicising and promoting themselves so, perhaps, The Settle should have a go, they deserve it.

I love the Settle. For good, honest tasty food this place is brilliant. Often when you find a very large menu in a restaurant, it is often to the detriment of the quality and taste of food - but not here! If you fancy something simple or something a little more special you will find it all here at reasonable prices and with generous portions. The staff are friendly and efficient and the owner is charming and has a real love for his business. Now what you may not know is that for special occasions, this venue has a small upstairs restaurant for their 'fine dining' service. The food is exquisite and it is incredible value for money. They have an amazing wine list which would be the envy of any wine cellar.Book fast though - Christmas and Valentines sell out fast, however you can book it privately for bigger functions

Had a breakfast here on 29th June at the suggestion of a friend who lives in Frome and I have to say it wasn't bad. Two sausages were well cooked and tasty. I assume locally made as they weren't catering sausages and they weren't deep fried. Two eggs (choice of how they are cooked was offered) some fresh mushrooms and two halves of grilled tomatoes (they were soft enough to eat. Too often they may well have a Grill mark on the outside but inside they are too hard and raw). Two slices of Bacon were delicious, smokey and very tasty. The breakfast comes with fried bread but they allowed me to swap mine for extra toast. We were offered brown or white toast, but strangely the toast for two came on the same plate and i ate the wrong one before realising my mistake. Butter came as a slab on a separate plate. We were asked if we wanted sauce and this was brought in a little dish. I don't know if there was an additional charge for this, i surely hope not?Tea was served in an attractive stainless steel pot but the extra boiling water came in a catering tea pot which spoilt the effect. Tea was good and strong though. The environment is Ok, a bit Twee for my taste and its small, though the huge mirror at the back does give the impression its much bigger.Seats were reasonably comfortable but I wouldn't like to sit there for too long.I saw no signs for free wifi, which if I'd been on my own I would have wanted.Service was Ok if a little rushed. So on balance a reasonable choice for breakfast if your happy to pay nearly ten quid (£10 ) for the privilege, which I think is far more than this breakfast is worth.

Perhaps I'm just a Scrooge but I can't bring myself to pay £10 for a breakfast. I object to over £5 for egg on toast. If I had, with my wife and child, we would have left with a £40+ bill. Fine for a night out or a special occasion but breakfast!? No way. Just too expensive and clearly trading on the irony that is Cheap Street. I like the room. Bare stone walls and wooden furniture is basic but somehow relaxing. Plenty of people in who clearly have loads to spend so generally an amenable ambience for nosh. Friendly enough staff as well. So far, so good. Then the menu just frustrates in its needless expense. The service gets it wrong every time - black coffee is white, water forgotten - simple things but annoying. They do good bread here and the array of jams is plentiful just don't order any hot food like bacon or sausage. Totally inedible. Fatty and greasy with gristle. Really unpleasant. Too much money for poor quality food is an insult twice made and I shall never return. My recommendation is you save some money and get decent food, decent service and a bill that won't stop your heart at Cordero or Black Swan or just anywhere else in Frome. Honestly, even McDonalds would be a better option and I can't believe I have put that in writing.

With one exception, a slice of burnt toast, the food was very good. However it was spoiled by the fact that my piece of haddock was a lot smaller than I would have expected for the price. I pointed this out both at the beginning and end of the meal but got no response from the staff except for a half hearted apology from the waitress. My only other criticism was the extremely small 'small' glass of lemonade costing £1.30, it couldn't have been more than a quarter of a pint.

My wife and I often pop in here for tea/coffee and one of their delicious cakes when we are shopping in Frome or exploring it's quaint backstreets. They do a good range of quality teas and coffees and light lunches too served by friendly staff in quaint surroundings. The late great chef, Keith Floyd rated it highly on one of his TV shows many years ago and it has always maintained that high standard. It's worth popping into the bakery next door to try one of their local specialities, the Frome bobbin too. But watch your head on the low oak beams.

We recently visited Frome, over the Easter, having lived here over 15 years ago, there have been many changes. However, The Settle remains the same, with their Utterly Fabulous cakes...ESPECIALLY the lardy cake which is to die for ! I think it's the same baker, from all these years ago, which tells you that something must be right ! It takes a Strong Person, to walk past The Settle...with all their delicious cakes and pastries on show. Inside , it has low ceilings and a real character to it all, and you can see the baker through the back, busy at his chores ! This, was our last stop before returning home, as we HAD to come away with Lardy Cake, Eccles Cakes, Choc Rum Slice and a jammy Doughnut. The best part is...EVERYTHING is calorie Free !!!

I was brought here by friends who I was staying with in nearby Shepton Mallet and thought how quaint the town of Frome is, with little side streets full of shops and no traffic. The Settle is located in one such street, not far from the traffic flow.It was fortunate that our table was pre-booked as business was brisk, the restaurant full, several people being turned away at the door due to lack of a vacant table. The staff were smart, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The only downside for me was that the toilets were up a flight of rather steep stairs. I'm disabled although able to walk short distances, and I struggled to get up and back down again. That said, the toilets were well kept. Were it not for this I would have given the place an 'Excellent' rating. One thing I found puzzling about the menu is that sausage egg and chips is somewhat cheaper than sausage and mash with gravy, which is why I chose the former. My plate contained three good sized sausages, more chips than I could eat and two perfectly cooked eggs.Overall, a most enjoyable lunch in pleasant surroundings.

Located in one of the cobbled streets the Settle should have everything going for it. Great location, an interesting selection of food and warm fires - so whats not to like. The problem is hat they can't seem too manage the numbers coming through - we arrived just before lunch and ordered the spicey soup and a bacon sandwich with coffees. When I say ordered I do mean we tried several times but waiting staff were too busy setting out new tables and when we asked if we could order we were reminded others were waiting ( indeed they were but after we arrived). the food when it came was fine and the value for money was OK. It's a pity they could be much better than this - still worth the visit ...

Great place for a good coffee and a snack. Pity the restaurant is not operating at the moment because it is full of character and the food is really good. We've eaten in Michelin star restos that this beats hands down. Love it.

A nice place to visit, clean and staff friendly. Small menu, but not expensive, although not sure what we paid was right. One of iur cajes was a bit dry which spoilt the occasion a bit. Overall 4 points awarded.

First visit to Frome and we stopped for lunch. It was very busy, the staff were lovely and very helpful. The selection from the menu and special day offers were excellent. Don't expect it to be on the table in 2 minutes because it is all so fresh and beautifully cooked. The prices are not exorbitant and we would definitely go again.

Our xmas meal was spent at The Settle in Frome. We started the evening with a drink in the small bar area and we were served some lovely aperitifs to start. After we were shown to our table in the upstairs room. The service was good of our soup, starter, sorbet, main meal, pudding and mince pies and coffee.Thoroughly recommend the food here although i have to say it does lack a bit of atmosphere.

Been here a few times lately - Christmas meal with a group of girlfriends, lunch with a friend and another meeting for coffee. Friendly service, good food. Downstairs is a cozy coffee shop with a variety of cakes on offer - one occasion we just stayed on for lunch! Upstairs there are plenty of tables for a formal dinner if you wish - Christmas meal was lovely.

The Settle is my favourite place to eat brunch in Frome. The food is great with decent portion sizes, and not too expensive so it's a great place to eat if you're dining on a budget. The resistant also has a really cosy feel to it.

We used to visit this place in such a picturesque setting many years ago when we had family in Frome so although there are several new "artisan" coffee places in the town now we stopped by for coffee to reminisce. Decor and tables have not changed so this is the place if you want something traditional. The menu is more of a catalogue with page after page of options. You should be able to find something that appeals. We didn't eat but had an excellent coffee and avoided the tempting cakes in the chill case near the entrance

We love L❤️VE this eatery. Awesome tasty and wholesome food, great coffees, brilliant and exceptional clean amenities. All served to you by a caring and friendly team. Honestly we go nowhere else. Breakfast, sandwiches, lunch AND ICE-CREAM direct from their counter chiller. Great place... 😉🤗

Another outstanding meal. Exceptional food, attentive and friendly service, beautifully and tastefully refurbished pub retaining all of its authentic appeal, and brilliant value for money. Absolutely nothing to fault. It's utterly insane that a place can be this successful and busy and also financially unviable. So sad to hear that the tenants are having to leave when they've done everything perfectly. Impossible to imagine the brewery finding a tenant who can do anything better, so it just feels like they want the pub to fail.

Good afternoon , just want to give some feedback to our disappointing visit to Passeys today . We booked for breakfast and everyone in our group agreed that half the breakfast was cold or warm at the best . One breakfast had a hair in it also . This is not good at all for the premium price charged . We have been several times before as a group of six or less with no problems. I wanted to discuss with the lady serving but one of our group did not want to cause a scene so we just paid and left . This used to be our go to place on Sunday morning . It’s the most expensive breakfast in Portobello, and the quality of food does not now justify the price . We won’t be back .

As we have a large Hotel Chocolat store nearby to where we live, we were disappointed at the choice of stock. Poor selection and short shelf life of the chocolates - bought 2 small boxes in June to be used by August!
