Lovely pub, good beer, great food, reasonable price.

Beautiful country pub. Food was delicious and hot. Menu was good . Staff friendly and considering how busy it was the meals arrived with very little wait. Definitely recommend and will be going back. Starter, main and dessert were top notch . Reasonably priced for excellent quality food.

Food is excellent, good value. Very hard to find a pub serving food without it being "pan fried" lots of parking great pub.

Hadn’t booked a table but we’re able to get one. Service was quick and efficient. Food was tasty, £16.95 for a beef Sunday roast and £11.95 for fish of the day. Fish was breaded plaice, but that was a bit stodgy.

AMAZING food FANTASTIC staff and so friendly

Visited today (06/11.24 ) for the first time in over 30 years and found the service to be friendly and efficient. Good menu and although quite busy the food arrived in good time and well cooked. Land chops and Lamb steaks on the menu which is rarity these days. The Lamb steak was a good size compared to supermarket lamb steaks . Good range of drinks at prices that were more affordable than some other pubs in the area. As a group of 4 wee count fault it . Opening times a tad restrictive and not opened any bank holidays. Best book.

Called in on way back home from a great day out, hoping to find a pub that would accommodate a walk in meal , as all others were not very helpful . They can't av been more helpful,we were greeted with a genuine nice welcome , i asked very nicely, and lo and behold,managed to squeezed us in with a 1 hour time slot before next reserved table at 7. Drinks from bar were served straight away ,despite it already being busy with a large party, service well attentive and pleasant , food arrived within 15 mins and woz as described " very yummy homemade cottage pie! The lovley food flew down Bong !! into our tummies ! We made sure to leave table well before the next booking with a small tip in appreciation . A very agreeable eating experience for me n my partner girlfriend. Would recommend this pub , great atmosphere geat team service well done all at the Castle of Comfort.

Great place to meet and have lunch. Food is always excellent and the service is great. It does close at 3:00 so you need to be there by 12:30 to get the full experience and not feel rushed. It does get busy so I recommend booking.

Food was 10/10 we stopped on the off chance and it was the best roast dinner we have ever had out. Staff were lovely too. Also dog friendly and a huge garden with swings etc

Dropped in here for lunch abd had a cracking meal in a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.

Great pub, we decided to stop here in our motorhome as they had good parking spaces. The service was top notch and so were the meals. My wife had two entrees and I had the homemade pie. We could not fault the meals as they were delicious and a good size, the staff were friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate stopping here.

Due to a flight delay we were looking for a meal v late at night. We passed this pub and discovered they would be ending service in 5 minutes. The food was reasonably priced, generous portions, piping hot, cooked perfectly; we had Whitby scampi, chips and peas, ham, egg and chips, gammon egg, peas and chips and Cajun butterflied chicken, new potatoes, peas and each meal had a separate side dish of a salad garnish; lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pepper, cress and coleslaw.

OMG, this is a great place to eat. Superb food, very quick service, beautiful garden, very friendly staff. The prices are good too.

A lovely country pub,serving proper pub food and drinks,popped in on the way back from Bristol Airport, never been in there before but will definitely return!! The food was lovely...homemade steak and ale pie jammed full of filling and was so good!! Lovely outside seating area plenty of parking and a really warm welcome....perfect pub!!

Lovely food, location, service and atmosphere. Definitely recommend. 4 adult meals, 2 Desserts and 6 drinks was £80. Very reasonable for huge portions, side salad per person and freshly cooked food.

There is a good selection of food and drink here, especially gin! The food is very reasonably priced, homemade and tasty which means it is somewhere you could go regularly and always have a choice of what to eat without breaking the bank.

We visited the Castle of Comfort whilst on a family camping trip. Having walked 2.5 miles to the pub we arrived thirsty and a little hungry. We ordered several drinks at the bar and asked to order a few plates of chips, only to be told in a very abrupt manor that as our table was on the grass we could not order food - not even 2 portions of chips. When questioning why this was the case the lady behind the bar wasn’t able to justify the reason and reminded us that the pub shut at 3pm. Clearly this pub is run with the priority being the convenience of the staff, rather than the requirements of the customer. Felt like a throwback to the dark customer service days of the 1980’s and very depressing to see such blatant disregard for customers. Strongly recommend against visiting the Castle of Comfort!

Lovely food at a good price. Good GF choice too.

Food was good but the beer was average at best. The service however was downright appalling. The woman who appeared to be in charge was dismissive at best and at worst drove a party of 8 adults and 6 children out into a torrential downpour rather than waiting the 5 minutes for the taxis to arrive. I'll be voting with my feet and never returning. Go to one of the many good pubs in the area instead. The blue bowl for would get my vote!

Had a lovely lunch here on our way from Dorset to Bristol airport Place was really busy which tells you something Beautiful outside area to enjoy the sun and beer.

We stopped after visiting Bristol hospital over the Easter Holidays. The staff were absolutely brilliant. As we had the children with us. We had starters, mains and a couple of drinks. It was a traditional pub, with a great play area for the kids. The atmosphere was welcoming. The food was great, although only one of us like the lasagna. It had a very strong cheese taste. It hasn't put us off. We can't wait to visit again.

Good portions of good quality food at reasonable price. Seating is a bit cramped in some places. Bar serving time depends on number of staff available. Table service was efficient. Kitchen is accommodating of specific meal requests (fussy vegetarian in my party). Will certainly visit again.

We had lunch after a walk around nearby woods. I had the Stilton and Broccoli soup which was delicious and my friends thoroughly enjoyed the fishcakes and chips. The meal was served promptly and service was excellent

Excellent evening for 12 people (80th). Food was fantastic all came hot and together mainly Steaks done to perfection. Staff ( bar,/ waiters.) Very efficient and sociable. Will come again...

Had delays getting to them, but they were so helpful re our car problems and directions re AA. Food was delicious and generous portions.

Excellent food at reasonable prices and good sized servings. Good choice of beers should suit most people - I had Exmoor Fox which was bright, fresh and very enjoyable. Pleasant surroundings with plenty of good quality outside tables - if we ever get the weather! Staff obliging and polite, and food arrived quickly and was very hot. Overall just what a good pub should be - top marks!

Booked our lunchtime table as this pub is usually busy. It’s on the way to Bristol Airport so people tend to stop off here. Good range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Food arrived very quickly and was hot and tasty. Staff were lovely and friendly. Good value and looking forward to returning. Thank you all.

We booked a table in advance a while ago, to ensure we would be able to have a pre Christmas meal with our family and not be disappointed. There is always such a lovely atmosphere and the Staff make everyone feel so welcome, as soon as you step inside. The food here is the best, excellent quality, good size portions and affordable prices We had the most perfect evening 10/10.

We visited The Castle with my Sister and Brother in Law. The food was fantastic. We had prawn cocktail, spring rolls and squid to start. Then ham egg and chips, gammon egg pineapple and chips, scampi and chips and the Cajun chicken and chips. We were all too full to try the puds but sure they would be equally as good. It was all fantastic. Would really recommend this pub for its food, atmosphere and excellent service. Cannot wait to return. ,

Great teebone steak ,but phone ahead to book ,gets packed quickly,they now do a full menu on Sunday as well they do quite a nice menu plenty of choice

Second time eating here, it’s been a few years since our last visit…… it’s just as good if not better! The pub as a whole seems to have had a face lift but definitely hasn’t lost its character! Food is well priced, piping hot and absolutely delicious! Even had a cheeky pudding and it was divine 😋 Staff welcoming, friendly and very helpful.

Great place to stop for a bite to eat. Plenty of menu options and a lovely patio area when it's sunny! The bar does get very busy, so there is often a queue - part of this seems to be because the mobile reception isn't great which means card payments take while to go through. Worth a visit

Stopped here for food early on a Friday evening. Very very popular pub and we were lucky to have the one remaining table. Staff are really friendly and helpful - just like pubs used to be and should be! Lovely varied menu of home cooked food - we settled on the chicken curry. This was really tasty and came to the table nicely presented with popadoms, mango chutney and a salad. Fantastic value for under £10 and delicious! No space for a pudding so we will be back. Thoroughly recommend!

Stopped at this little gem for the first time and we ran out of superlatives! Affordably priced beer, the food was also amazing value - good ingredients, big portions and excellently cooked. The staff were fantastic too. We sat outside on their new patio which was beautiful, it over looks a fab pub garden with climbing frames, slides and swings. This will be great for us and our children. This is now our favourite pub!!

Good grub at decent prices, grea old school pub

This little country pub is a real gem. Booking is a must as it is always busy which speaks to the quality of the food which is fantastic! We booked on the day and when we arrived did not have a table available. They claimed they had never promised this and that they had suggested we come and see what was available. This would have been fine but they were really not clear and were then rude about it when we arrived. Shame the food quality does not have service to match but I would still definitely go back as our steaks were really good and the drinks were fairly priced.

A pub I’ve known since my youth. Better than ever

What an excellent pub, been here a few times now and the food is lovely, very good sized portions and tasty, served promptly and staff very pleasant, will definitely be back.

Fantastic pub lunch on a Monday lunch time. Called in on the off chance after a long morning walk round the mendips. The atmosphere is good and everywhere was very clean & well maintained despite the building being very old. Served quickly at the bar & did not have to wait long for our food. Piping hot, freshly cooked and well presented. Highly recommend the vegetable lasagne. All clean plates after. Good choice of food on the menu and a great selection of soft & alcoholic drinks. Really impressed again so shall be back - hopefully room for pud! Very friendly staff. Lucy was extremely accommodating, service checked us & had such a lovely smile every time she walked by - bar lady was also very friendly & welcoming too upon arrival.

Lovely location and outdoor patio. Shame it closes in the middle of the day when there are plenty of punters wanting to enjoy their menu. (Didn’t get to sample their food / kitchen shut during a daytime period.) Coffee was good.

We came on a Saturday with a large group, for my sons Birthday meal. We come every year whilst camping locally. The service is always the same greatness. The food is also always the same standard, which is absolutely incredible. It’s really delicious home cooked food, big portions and the price is excellent. Massive range of soft drinks, probably anything you ask for they would have! Also large selection of alcoholic drinks too. We preordered and were very impressed everything went perfectly. If you can visit on a sunny day then there is a gorgeous patio area with a massive childrens garden too.

Booked a large table today for Sunday lunch.. the food and service was brilliant but disappointed to find when we arrived that they didn’t serve a Sunday roast as advertised on the website. Would happily return for main menu but perhaps the website should be updated?

The children's play area and Patio is very good, the Beers are very good, food is good pub food. It's very popular, booking is essential.
