This company have owed their egg supplier from the Cotswolds over £500 for nearly 12 months now. We feel this is the only way to get their attention now unfortunately. We don’t take doing this lightly but feel that perhaps doing this we will finally get a response from 42nd East Bakehouse. We have sent many emails, attempted phone calls, statements through accountants. We have even tried communicating via Instagram (we were told they’d be in touch and then they blocked us). Needless to say no one got in touch and we are stilled owed over £500. We feel it is only fair that customers and potential customers know how this company treats its suppliers. We wouldn’t want visit and spend money with a cafe and bakery that does not pay fairly for its supplies. So now those of you reading this page with a view to visiting know how this company operates in the background. Farming is difficult at the best of times and then to add a business treating us this way on top of it is really quite disheartening. Please 42nd East Bakehouse we just want to be paid fairly for what we supplied you.

Was happy to sit down and have a drink and a bit to eat after a long afternoon of shopping, however as soon as we got there we were disappointed and should of known to turn around and go elsewhere. The host had a disgusting attitude and was rude, never saw her smile once, we sat down and waited and waited for our order to be taken, people who got seated way after us were served before us, we got walked past about 10 times and a server was stood doing nothing and looked at us many times but never bothered to come take our order, so I had to ask a server to come take our order, so then he tells another server to do it then he goes to take someone else’s order. We were ready to leave but finally a nice young lad acknowledged us, we both ordered a scone and then got told there was only one scone left (bear in mind this was at not even four in the afternoon) so my mum ordered something different, my scone came freezing cold and my mums food was very unsatisfying. Will definitely not be going back!

Food was nice, but the menu is very restricted with most items carrying a supplement, which made the meal much more expensive than advertised. Not four star standard as the hotel purports to be. The decor is very tired, the chairs are grubby and the carpet just dirty. The staff do their best, but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. It clear the owners have lost interest in the hotel and leave the staff to run the place.

Stow-on-the-Wold was our Cotswold base for several days so we became quite familiar with the town’s cafes and pubs. Popping into Huffkins for a toasted bun and a pot of tea became a favourite thing to do. Their specialties are cream teas and home-made cakes and buns but they also do more substantial breakfast and lunch meals. An interesting thing about Huffkins is that it is housed inside Stow’s oldest building, built around 1450. Heavy wooden beams still feature in the ceilings but the rest of the decor is modern and whilst its clean and neutral, it lacks any historical charm. For those interested in the history, there’s a blue plaque on the wall out the front which gives a brief history of the building.

We stayed in SotW for a friends wedding locally. It appeared everyone had come upto the Cotswolds for wedding that weekends at the White Hart was our 5th attempt at finding a spot for dinner - turns out 5th time lucky it was! We had lovely service throughout dinner, fantastic food in a really lovely dining room. Would strongly recommend, nice selection of drinks and main meals, could well be a lovely spot for dinner for two or small groups as well visiting the area.

The Old Butchers was a highlight of our stay in the Cotswolds. Here’s the funny thing though - despite its name, this is not a steak restaurant. In fact the menu specialises in seafood. The name is something of a local in-joke as the premises were originally the local butcher shop. The food here was excellent. The standouts were the Dover Sole Meunière and the Cornish Mussels Mariniere. The mussels were some of the best I’ve had. The only thing I wouldn’t order again would be the potatoes as they had a distinctive and heavy seaweed flavouring which was a little too strong for my taste. Service was outstanding. We were warmly welcomed and staff were attentive throughout. The owner/manager found time to introduce herself and to check that we’d enjoyed our meals which was a nice touch. There is a nice lively atmosphere to the place - not that it’s noisy, it just has a buzz. It feels like a place where people are enjoying their meals and the staff are committed and have enthusiasm. I note that some reviewers have commented on price and whilst it is a little pricey, we felt that the quality of the food and service was well worth it. Overall, we considered ourselves lucky to have discovered The Old Butchers on our first night - this gave us a chance to return a second time.

Booked a table to celebrate my husbands birthday. Very friendly welcome, staff all very attentive. Food delicious, husband had the sausage & mash, I had the trout. All beautifully cooked & presented. Managed to fit in a pudding, a sticky toffee pudding and a ‘to die for’ peanut butter cheesecake with salted caramel ice cream. Cannot fault any aspect of our visit. A lovely birthday meal.

Popped out for a midweek supper. Arrived at 6.30pm and the bar was buzzing with locals having a pint after work, so rare and nice to see. Our lovely waiter showed us to our dog friendly table, supplied doggy treats and menus. Great range of beers, lagers and wines. My meal was delicious, sea bream with chorizo, new potatoes and veg. Prices reasonable for the Cotswolds. Would definitely recommend.

Cotswold towns are not short of charming, historic pubs but the Porch House has a particular claim. It’s said to be the oldest pub in England, dating back to 975AD. This is no idle claim as its timbers have been carbon dated to approximately 1000 AD and it still has witch marks above the 16th century fireplace. Many original features have been retained - low ceilings and heavy wooden beams, crooked staircases, and small, cosy, rustic nooks. If you want character, then this is the place. You can walk in for a drink but if you want to eat, you’ll have to book ahead. We couldn’t get a table the first night we tried but we were able to book for a few nights later. The menu is seasonal and they try to introduce local produce. Overall the food was good - not memorable, but still good. The meals were hearty and traditional but much better than standard pub grub. We enjoyed the beef dish and pie although the mussels entree was disappointing as the mussels were quite small and were not plump and juicy. Overall a nice dinner in a very atmospheric, historic spot.

Nice outdoor seating and tasty coffee and cakes. Let down by strange service set up, we only ordered coffee and cake. The coffee arrived promptly but no sign of our cakes. When I asked, I was told by 2 members of staff just sat around that there were other orders ahead of mine. Why neither of them can be trusted to put 2 pre sliced cakes on plates is beyond me.

Never been so disappointed with a takeaway. Salt and chilli ribs were literally tiny, dry scraps. BBQ ribs were in a bland and tasteless sauce with no BBQ flavour to it. Husband had crispy beef which he said had a powdery texture. Chow mein was watery and bland. We love Chinese and have tried all the local ones. This was by far the worst. Don’t waste your money.

Ordered a bacon cheese hamburger. The burger seemed small for a 6 ounce burger but there was NO bacon or cheese. After a long wait for the food and a guided tour to rejoin I did not get want to send it back so advised the server but ate the mediocre burger as delivered. Good chips. Wife ordered a salad and vegetables but not impressed
