The best restaurants in Beacon-Stow Cotswold South West

We stayed in the Horse&Groom for a brief weekend and enjoyed every moment! Went for a short holiday with family in the Cotswold district and was delighted to find this gem! our rooms were clean and tidy and equipped with a coffee machine and a great shower, even got a very generous welcome basket with treats! staff were friendly and welcoming and helped with every request or question. no complaints at all! would like to come back once we’re in the area :)

I attended an co-event with my daughter 9 for beefy boys at old stocks. From my own confusion I didn’t realise it was a ticket only sold out event. I was in the awkward position of promising something that I could not follow through with. However the person on the door saw my daughter face and allowed us in. An amazing show of humanity and customer service. What they didn’t know is my daughter had not been able to attend a birthday party which her class had at beefy boys Cheltenham, as she was sick last year. I had built the trip up so much to go and try world ranked 2nd burger in the world. It is nice to see compassion at the old stocks in a world of computer says no.

Lovely hotel and staff. The food and service in the resturant for our evening meal was amazing.The ingredients were fantastic and the way the chef cooked them was 100%.Breakfast and staff this morning are brilliant. Our suite is quite large but noisy by the main road.

This place is brilliant. It serves the best Sunday lunch is=n the most pleasant restaurant and bar. The food is as good as home cooking and the staff are excellent. They cater for food intolerances too and that is better than many other hotels and restaurants. There is a lounge too, with log fire going full blast, ideal for a pre lunch drink or for a coffee after the meal. Can't recommend this place enough!

I popped into Davenford in Stow, after I had been to their shop in Burford - it did not disappoint - really friendly team and great food. This time I tried their cream tea - great scones, light and fluffy!

We nipped in for a quick drink, the orange wine was delicious and the place has a nice atmosphere. We had some little snacks whilst visiting.

We changed our plans for evening meal when the pub we'd intended to eat at was closed on Sunday evening. The change turned out well. We found this lovely pub on a village green. The food was excellent. I had pheasant, my husband had pie. We enjoyed it so much we went back again the following evening. We then both had pheasant. The meal was beautifully cooked, the vegetables were delicious. I only wish I lived closer. Just one note of caution, the village is very dark at night in winter so have a torch or well charged phone. It all adds to the charm though.

We were on our way home and just fancied a good old fashioned pub meal. It was a throwback to 20/30 years ago. Just what we wanted. Kirsty was also superb in serving us.

The coffee shop we intended to go to was packed, so we went next door to Davenford instead as it wasn’t very busy at all. We ordered coffee and pastries and sat down inside with the dog (sign at the front saying dogs allowed but on lead). While we were waiting, a waiter came to give us a menu, not realising we’d already ordered, so walked away. Next thing, another staff member came and said dogs were only allowed at the front part of the store. No one mentioned this before! So we had to pack up our things and head to tables outside because the minimal tables were taken inside. After waiting a while, finally got our drinks but no food, he said it was coming. How hard is it to put two pastries from the shelf into plates?!! They never came so I went in to cancel the pastries and ask for a refund, because we’d finished our drinks so we didn’t want the food now. They didn’t even give so much as an apology, just an offer to put them in takeaway boxes. Unbelievable! Got back to the car and discovered they’d given us something entirely different to what we’d ordered…no words 😖. This probably explains why next door was jam packed and these guys weren’t. They were so flustered behind the counter, not knowing who was doing what. First and last time visit for us. Dreadful…

We were lucky enough to arrive on PIE NIGHT! The pot pies we had were amazing and we've since tried to recreate at home (unsuccessfully).

Lovely setting, the best scones with clotted cream and superb cakes.

Was happy to sit down and have a drink and a bit to eat after a long afternoon of shopping, however as soon as we got there we were disappointed and should of known to turn around and go elsewhere. The host had a disgusting attitude and was rude, never saw her smile once, we sat down and waited and waited for our order to be taken, people who got seated way after us were served before us, we got walked past about 10 times and a server was stood doing nothing and looked at us many times but never bothered to come take our order, so I had to ask a server to come take our order, so then he tells another server to do it then he goes to take someone else’s order. We were ready to leave but finally a nice young lad acknowledged us, we both ordered a scone and then got told there was only one scone left (bear in mind this was at not even four in the afternoon) so my mum ordered something different, my scone came freezing cold and my mums food was very unsatisfying. Will definitely not be going back!

Food was nice, but the menu is very restricted with most items carrying a supplement, which made the meal much more expensive than advertised. Not four star standard as the hotel purports to be. The decor is very tired, the chairs are grubby and the carpet just dirty. The staff do their best, but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. It clear the owners have lost interest in the hotel and leave the staff to run the place.
