The Queen’s Head is just off the main square and we found it by chance. Very friendly welcome with a lovely wood burner in the bar. Good choice of drinks and we decided to return for a meal. Simple menu with traditional options. We had the fish and chips and pie with both dishes plentiful and piping hot. Only downside was they advertised skin-on chips and served the equivalent of French fries. Worth a visit.

We’ve been in Stow-on-Wold for several days and have visited most of the pubs for a pint and a meal. Today we found our favorite, the Queen’s Head. It has a comfortable, English pub feel, friendly bar staff & waitress and great food! My husband enjoyed a steak & ale pie filled with chunks of beef and a rich gravy, all covered by a flaky puff pastry. I had the tempura prawns with sweet chili sauce and side salad, also an excellent choice!

This is a nice traditional pub which is a surprising rarity in the Cotswolds these days. So many pubs have been spoiled to cater for day trippers. This place has kept it’s charm with a good selection of ales

A very nice pub, very friendly staff, good menu, and not overcharging on the drinks. Unlike other establishments in Stow. On both occasions luckily we had booked, as it was very busy, and would have struggled without a booking. Highly recommended.

We chose The Queens Head because unlike the majority of other pubs in Stow, this one had the cosy factor and didn’t have the extra £10 per dish addition just because it’s in Stow! It was the right choice. Food superb, service warm and friendly and the aforementioned price was right. They also have good ale. Do book though. We did and when we arrived, every other table was taken.

As ALL the pubs in Stow on The Wold, This is a very popular restaurant and you need to book ahead in person or by phone ( no online bookings). It had a lovely old world atmosphere and the menu looked great. I had Sausage and buttered mash with onion gravy. The Sausages were first quality and excellent but alas the mash was gray and there was no buttery taste it tasted very smooth but bland and the onion gravy was also lacking as it didn't have much flavour and the onions were still crunchy. We were seated in the middle of the pub and 3 flies kept landing on our faces and arms, they kept trying to land on our food. It spoilt the whole experience as we were trying to stop them landing on our food constantly. While we were eating a couple came in asking to eat but had no booking and were turned away as the manager said that they were fully booked. Not 5 minutes later 5 people came in looking for a table without a booking, but instead of being turned away the manager showed them to a table at the back.

Ate here by chance on the Tuesday night and the food and service were so good that we re-booked for the following evening. The food is good honest pub grub and the steak and ale pie is one of the best. The best recommendation I can give is that we went back, a couple we were talking to on the Tuesday had been in the previous evening, a couple that were in with us on the Tuesday were also back on the Wednesday and a couple in on the Wednesday were rebooking for the following Saturday. Something must be working.

Alert to all Americans and rest of Europe do not order the scampi with tail. It was a tasteless fried ball of breading, with hard to find pieces of undercooked shrimp. Scampi in the UK is nothing like it is served in the rest of the world. The restaurant wouldn’t take it back. Even if that’s the way they prepare it in the UK, it was tasteless.

What a great little pub, the staff are extremely friendly as are the locals. It was our go to for a late afternoon drink. This pub is not the most luzuriuos pub I have ever been to. It is what it is. Wooden floors, beams, benches tables and chairs, all mis matched, which I like. It has no pretentions to be anything other than a good old fashioned drinking place that happens to serve food.My friends and I had lunch here one Friday. We shared 2 bottles of decent white sauvignon blanc, and we orderd different dishes off the lunch menu. I say dishes, we chose the lighter option as we were also having dinner later. They were mainly sandwiches. However, I have been to plenty of places that mess up this humble food. Not so here. The bread was fresh and fluffy, oozing with filling, the side salad, crisp and plentiful. The dressing was lovely. For what it was, none of us could fault anything. Although the pie of the day did seem popular and very tempting when we kept seeing them being delivered to other patrons. Next time!!!!The staff were absolutely brilliant. We recently visited for evening meal. Initially shown to table with no umbrella in courtyard. This was changed to one with an umbrella which was needed as the courtyard was very hot even at 6.30pm. There were some lovely hanging baskets but quite a lot of tables crammed into a small space. I ordered the salmon with potatoes and fresh veg. My partner had the fish and chips which he said were delicious. Unfortunately my meal was somewhat undercooked. The fish was raw in the middle and the veg apart from the potatoes were very al dente! We informed the girl serving us who said the chef had cooked it enough but as compensation removed the cost of our drinks from bill. Overall impressions were rather average I am afraid. Sad because several years ago we ate there nearly every night during our break.

I think you’d struggle to find a more pleasant, attentive group of staff in a pub. Greeted with a massive smile and a “can do” attitude…. a pleasant surprise after some of the corporate pubs in Stow. Fast, efficient service and a great level of personality from all. We didn’t eat here, but did see the food coming out and that looked awesome too.

The service was ok but a bit remote and cold. The main courses we had were poor value for money, nothing outstanding. The atmosphere was lack lustre. We ate our mains and then perused the pudding menu. When the guy serving came to take our plates away, he said he would have to check if they could still serve a sweet, as it was nearly nine o’clock. He came back to our table to say that it was too late! It would have been very sensible to tell us when we sat down at 8.30 that service finished at 9. We missed out on the puddings and they missed out on more income. We certainly didn’t feel valued as customers.

Another pub that was a great local ruined by the corporate makeover. We have been regulars for 30 years returning after lockdown and the atmosphere is gone. The garden especially, which was full of greenery, now resembles a prison yard. Bare and character less. Food as ever basic but adequate and pleasant enough. Overall such a shame.

Perfect steak and ale pie for me and sausage and mash for him. It’s all you need sometimes and it was delish! Great staff too.

We'd got to Stow late so the shops were shut as were most cafes and some restaurants. We were tired and hungry but fancying something light and a bit healthier as we'd eaten a lot of carb-type food. We were parked at Stow's large Tesco and assumed we'd be getting meal deals until we stumbled across this little pub which seemed to invite us in as we went past. We had a very comfy little corner to ourselves and the staff were very attentive, even saying that the chef was ready to start serving meals even though we were a little early which was very nice of them.We found mostly what we were looking for in here food wise and had a good time sat amongst the beams and wonky walls of this old place.

Me and my wife visited this pub this week and went back 3 times. Food is amazing and the staff are so helpful. If you have concerns about covid don't worry the staff are so well trained and the restrictions are in place but doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. Would highly reccomend.

Delicious full English breakfast at The Plough on a blustery wet morning, most welcome and plenty of coffee. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were light and creamy. Dogs welcome. Local produce.

Had a fantastic cake and coffee, sitting outside the bakers. The portion was very sizable and the quality outstanding.

The guy who works here is rude and condescending. Dare you not be a perfect coffee expert and ask for advice on which drink to choose.

By luck we chose this restaurant for lunch and loved it so much went again the following evening. Smiths is a charming restaurant full of character, with a number of low-ceiling rooms. We had the” scotchy burger” both times and it was absolutely sensational. Cooked to perfection, full of flavour and quite possibly the best burger I (and my wife) have ever had or could remember having (and I’ve had a few!). The cajun fries were also perfectly cooked and added a spicy side to a (moderately) spicy burger and we left wishing this place wasn’t 2 hours away! The staff were friendly , especially the young blonde lady who was so welcoming and accommodating to us and also made the delicious chocolate mousse special that we had for desert. Definitely advisable to pre-book, this place gets very busy, and deservedly so.

This cafe has the best home made scones and bread and butter pudding. The food is so delicious and a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend a visit!!
