A last minute booking on a Monday lunchtime, we were greeted warmly by the lady behind the bar. The lunch was superb (the chips are heaven) We had our little rescue dog with us who is a little nervous and the lovely lady who served us was very understanding of this....so kind. We only wish we lived closer but the Daneway is most definitely our go to when visiting Gloucestershire.

Pleasant staff, decent prices and well presented food but of variable quality. Those with me had fish & chips which were obviously good - I stole most of my wife's chips which were excellent. But my sausage & mash was poor. Good enough potatoes & gravy and frozen peas are frozen peas but the 3 sausages were really poor. Small in size and low in flavour with skins so thick I couldn't swallow them let alone digest them. Two good quality ones would have been better. My treacle tart was similarly poor, low in taste and chewy! Too much flour and too little syrup I suspect. I won't be back.

Visited friends in nailsworth and was told to try the daneway for Sunday lunch. What a great Sunday lunch it was, lovely to see such a variety of vegetables on the plate. The pork was tasty and as for the roast potatoes, they were class. If visiting the area, well worth booking a table at the Daneway Inn, it was a lovely day so we sat outdoors to have our lunch. The interior of the pub is full of charm and character and is spotless. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. Next time I am in nailsworth we will be going again for Sunday lunch. The pub is also dog friendly

Been here before, it is on a walk we do sometimes. Arrived just before lunch time on a recent Sunday, so thought we would ask if there was any availability. They fitted us in, on a table reserved from 14:00 (we got there at 12:00) and it was an excellent meal. Portions a good size, friendly service and price very reasonable. Certainly recommended.

Stopped for a cuppa and a snack after walking in local woods. The landlady was so friendly, we will definitely be back for food one day 😁. They also have a campsite and yurts in a beautiful setting, near enough to Gloucester, Cirencester, Malmesbury, and the Cotswolds airport plenty of places to visit and yet so peaceful. Fireplace is beautiful, ask about it's history, bit of a story. Local walks are fab.

We had such a lovely time at the Daneway thank you very much! Two night camping break Friday to Sunday with my eldest daughter and my friend who was visiting us. The campsite is so beautiful and peaceful, the facilities were perfect for what we needed and everyone was friendly and welcoming. We had a couple of drinks and an evening meal- hearty portions and delicious. We even went back again for a yummy pudding. We couldn't believe how quiet it was in the school holidays, we were thinking maybe it's because it's not easy to find on google. We certainly weren't complaining as we slept very well for camping. We went for some lovely walks direct from the campsite including a walk to chalford and back when we realized a toothbrush had been forgotten. Rita and team supplied us with camping essentials- firewood and kindling and were so lovely and friendly. The pub itself is so lovely great selection of drinks and food, sparkling clean, pretty and old fashioned. Next time we would get breakfast from the pub too. Thanks again!!

Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff, Dog friendly! Only problem I had was the food. Charged £17 for sausages and mash; the potatoes weren't mashed properly so they were an oddly gritty texture and the sausages just fell out of their skins into mush. Taste was good but not worth £17. Other than that, nice place.

I have lived in Cirencester along time, and yet never visited the Daneway pub. My family and I visited the pub after going for a walk along the old canal paths, and I was very happy they were very friendly and happy. They offered a smaller roast option for the children and my wife who does not like huge meals. The meals were great! If I was very picky maybe it could have been a little warmer! But that is picky. We will be going back and maybe taking the campervan so we can stay over and enjoy a few more drinks next to the river. Also the desserts were great and the homemade Mars bar cake.

I paid £20 for an alcohol free Guiness and an aperol spritz. The Guiness glass was dirty and wasn’t even cold, the aperol didn’t have a slice of fruit in it which you’d expect for the price it was. It’s cheaper to drink in London

Situated just down from Sapperton village on the disused canal (it's a pub at one end of the canal tunnel where the leggers used to be), we had a fantastic Sunday lunch here, and with the weather being kind, were able to sit outside in the glorious sunshine. Whatever it says in the ‘contract’ campers are asked to sign on arrival it is unreasonable and irresponsible to provide no refuse disposal facility at a campsite. Over a three night stay we generated two small bags of refuse between eight people which we left on top of the large, locked bin at the pub. As we were packing up the landlady informed us in a fairly sour manner that we would have to take it with us due to the terms of the ‘contract’. So I travelled 1.5 hours back home with two sodden bags of rubbish squeezed into the boot of my car – very unpleasant. Considering that in addition to £180 we handed over for camping we had also spent upwards of £350 in the pub on food and drinks I consider that very shoddy treatment. We will not be back here again despite being regular visitors for about 15 years. It’s also worth noting that the ‘contract’ also says you can only drink alcohol purchased from the pub on the site. Penny-pinching approach.

Our walking group enjoy lunch together every week after our walk. After this Wednesday's walk we were delighted with our meal at the Daneway. It's now firmly on our list of pubs for regular meals. It's not hard to say that when the food was so good and the welcome so friendly. My wife had soup - two vegetarian choices on offer - and I had the soup-and-sandwich deal. Both delicious pub grub. The fish and chips, and the Mediterranean tart were also recommended. Sandwiches seemed a bit pricy, but maybe that's just my age!

Visited recently for Sunday lunch with the family. Traditional country pub serving a great selection of roasts. Proper home cooked food with all the trimmings. Yorkie puds and cauliflower cheese were some of the best we have had dining out. I opted for beef which was perfectly cooked. All served with proper gravy! Lovely setting inside and very clean throughout. We were even lucky enough to see deer in the field next to the car park. Would definitely recommend, great value for money and we shall be returning.

I’m a real muncher, but this one really filled me up. The portion size of the Sunday roast was generous. It came with parsnip, carrots, green beans, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, gravy and cauliflower cheese. For desert we just about squeezed in the crumble of the day - rhubarb. It was delicious Highlights of the roast were the cauliflower cheese (10/10) and the Yorkshire pudding which almost melted in my mouth. Service was prompt and everything was clean. A hidden gem in the Cotswolds!

Really great place! Can't rate the food properly as we only had pizza and chips. It was perfectly ok. Cheesy chips were really good But the location is simply fantastic. Lots and lots of beautiful walks all around the pub ( almost all are woodland walks, with streams running through them. In the spring the whole of the woodlands is covered in wild garlic and in the autumn you are sure to find some delicious mushrooms. Perfect for dogs and bikes ( I think as we always see lots of some tracks... I don't ride 😅) The pub has this amazing MASSIVE outdoor sitting area, great for sunny days! So many times we've spend hours having a cold pint, chatting to other dog lovers. Everyone is always really friendly there Inside, it's specious but still cosy. With a lot of sitting available And their toilets are always clean 😄👍 Overall, it's a really nice place to visit, especially if you like exploring the beautiful Cotswolds countryside 🥰

Quite disappointed with the limited menu, I struggled to find something I’d like. Ordered the fish finger sandwich, they were more batter than fish and quite greasy. Served with crisps that tasted as though they’d been open a day or two. We are locals and hoped to be regular visitors to The Daneway but they will have to up their game in order to compete with The Bell for customers who prefer a wider menu choice and better quality food.

I rated this 5* in the past. I didn’t realise it had new owners who have not taken the Trip Advisor account over, so are trading on the last owners reputation. The lunchtime menu is very limited and we struggled to find any thing we actually wanted. Opted for a bacon baguette, sausage and mash and a Mediterranean tart. The baguette tbf was ok. The tart was a frozen affair with some “Mediterranean” veg in it with a lump of soft cheese on top. With a lot of rocket. The sausages were supermarket affairs, dry and tasteless. The mash was again dry and unseasoned and was served with peas, and the gravy (at best) was bisto. I would venture they don’t have a proper chef on the payroll. For the food, two pints a Pepsi and two wines it was £78.

Major disappointment. Having read previous reviews we decided to try this pub for lunch. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. We were expecting delicious pub food, it was far from it, a warm welcoming atmosphere, it wasn't, having booked a table we were told there were 11 people ahead of us so there would be a wait, which turned out to be an hour, no apology. The food was bland to say the least, the menu extremely limited and well over priced, no one checked to see how are food was. We will not be returning and would not recommend if you enjoy good pub food.

We have travelled from Manchester to explore the Cotswolds and visited The Daneway three times this year to date. Each time we visited we were very warmly received, there was plenty of parking, the place was nice and clean, the bar was well stocked, and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and professional, while the landlord and landlady (who always remember us) are two of the nicest people imaginable. Most importantly to us, The Daneway is dog-friendly, and by special request, they will always cook something special for our dog and at a very fair price. The pub has a wonderful outdoor area with plenty of seating at well-laid-out tables, and there is always a clean and full water barrel to replenish dog bowls on hot afternoons. We were delighted to find that they also have a wonderful camping area in a lower meadow down by the stream which is out of sight from the pub itself, and we plan to try this on another future visit. The good thing we noted about the campsite location is that it is far away enough from the pub to be quiet, while at the same time near enough to be able to get another round of drinks while sitting outside your tent on balmy summer evenings - we're looking forward to that in the future. We highly recommend The Daneway in Sapperton and even if you are simply exploring the general area, it is well worth diverting to visit for some excellent food and drink, together with a warm welcome.

An old traditional pub in a lovely setting, with a great outside space. Serving a range of Wadsworth beers for those who like real ale. The staff were friendly, and I liked that the barman was quick to react when told the 6X was not at it's best. But watch out because two halves of beer or lager were priced much more than the actual pint of the same. Not seen this before and a bit naughty ! We ordered food on arrival and we're lucky to miss the hour wait on food orders that followed when it became busier. The menu was disappointing, not being overly exciting. Some items, like sandwiches, are well over priced. However, our choices were on the whole well cooked, with the exception of the beef and ale pie, as the meat was a little dry. I think the new owners need to be a little careful with certain aspects of the running of this inn if it is to be competitive with other establishments in the area.

We've had the pleasure of visiting The Daneway Inn on numerous occasions, and it continues to exceed our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrive, the warmth of the welcome, the exceptional food, the impeccable level of service, the picturesque location, the friendly and accommodating staff, and the hospitable landlords consistently stand out as nothing short of superb. Nestled in an absolutely idyllic setting, The Daneway Inn offers easy parking, access to fantastic walking trails, and discreetly placed camping facilities in the lower meadow. Their well-maintained garden area features ample seating on lush, neatly trimmed grass. For dog owners like us, a barrel of refreshing water is always readily available. Stepping into the main building, you're immediately enveloped in a cosy, rustic charm that radiates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The bar is well-stocked, and there are plenty of indoor seating options if that's your preference. Adding to the ambience, a charming old fireplace beckons on chilly winter evenings. Dining at The Daneway Inn has been a consistently delightful experience for us. As a vegan, I'm always pleased with the excellent vegan options, while my wife enjoys the regular menu. Our dog, who's impartial so long as he gets something tasty, is always treated to a special order that's both generous and fairly priced. The balance between quality and quantity, coupled with affordability, ensures that everyone is happy and no one leaves with an empty stomach. BTW. I HIGHLY recommend the vegan burger and my wife adores their rhubarb crumble and custard! Rita and Brian, the inn's landlords, are truly exceptional hosts. Even during busy times, they always take a moment to greet us warmly and ensure our satisfaction. Their willingness to accommodate our special requests for our dog, again at a very reasonable cost, reflects their genuine hospitality and generous support of dog lovers. The Daneway Inn consistently offers a remarkable experience that ticks all the boxes, and we can't recommend it highly enough!

If after a nice little afternoon in the middle of nowhere surrounded by the countryside with space for little ones to run around safely, sounds appealing, I also seen well behaved dogs too which is a bonus . Then I swear down this is place for you. If that's the type of place you like while enjoying a nice cold beer, then look no further ! Set right by the famous Sapperton tunnel and surrounded by lots of walking areas too, they also said they have a campsight behind the car park so why not camp there for the weekend and enjoy what the area has to exsplore also with a short drive to cirencester! We also had the pleasure of whom I presume was the landlady and landlord. They were very welcoming and kind and a pleasure to meet. Me and a friend had a nice cold drink and sat in the lovley beer garden watching the world go by. Even had some cheesy chips as felt a little peckish, which was not bad price and portion was good . Did look at the menu and looked appealing, so I will be coming back for meals soon. The pub itself is old country style looking cottage type pub absolutely beautiful outside with lots of character aswell picters to look at inside with a lovley nice open fire (of course we are in middle of heat wave so no fire) but makes me want to come back in winter just to sit indoors next to it when those colder days arrive. They had live band advertised which I just love live music unfortunately I was not able to make the date but hopefully there will be more in future as would be nice place to see some bands while enjoying a nice drink or having a meal. We decided to try the pub since it had new owners. But we were really disappointed the sandwiches cost £10 onwards as a chef I assumed that would be the cost including chips so didn’t check the rest of the menu. When it arrived it had crisps and a wilted bit of salad. We ordered some chips- which were quite tasty. The salt and pepper squid was brought in and chewy, the skin hadn’t been removed so you had to pull it out separately before you could eat it. The BLT was okay the tomatoes should have been sliced thinner but definitely not worth £10. All the sauces were brought in- we know being chefs they are the cheap versions also. Overall we had two beers, a portion of chips, BLT, Burger and the salt and pepper squid and it cost us £54. Now from the fact the Bell in sapperton is just up the road and everything is homemade, we will not be coming back. A note to the chef- they need to make their own sauces and food if they want anyone to pay them prices. If not you can go to a hungry horse or beefeater and pay a lot less! You need to find your passion again.

We stayed here first weekend in July 23, having chanced on the place during a google search for campsites in the area. The pub is 100% Cotswolds! Full of character, we received a sincere welcome from the owners who strive to deliver a friendly, personable service. Food was excellent, fairly priced, and from a simple menu (less is more sometimes!) with a selection of local and chain beers on tap. It's a very dog friendly place and a magnet for those out for the day walking in the local area, so maybe consider booking ahead if you want to eat. The bar staff were very young and seemingly new to the work, but they were outstandingly polite and went out of their way with service. Camping facilities are simple but clean and well looked after, with tents in a field just down from the car park. They do accept campervans (hence our stay) but be VERY aware that you'll be in the car park with no support facilities; you HAVE to be self contained. But most importantly of all...space...or the lack of it. When you book in with them, be sure to tell them your van dimensions, and BE HONEST. If you tell them you're in a VW and rock up in a Winnebago, you'll wreak havoc! (My advice here...look at the sat image on google earth; vans are placed in the bottom right corner of the car park.) We had two brilliant nights here and would definitely head back there again, but just be mindful of the set up...

Really disappointed with the pub under new ownership. As a local, I was so pleased that this had reopened and that it was open most of the time rather than the odd day. Unfortunately it has changed for the worse and our two visits were shambolic. The first time we went was the first week of reopening so assumed the limited menu was due to this. There wasn’t enough pizzas and the burgers were so basic that they may as we have been Birdseye. The second time we went, we sat in the garden with family and thought we’d grab some sandwiches. Ordering was chaotic and when the food arrived, two were incorrect and they were all terrible quality. As a veggie, the menu was limited and for £9.50 for a cheese and tomato sandwich with a few crisps, was taking the mickey a little. The previous chef was incredible and well justified the cost of the food but the price hasn’t changed yet quality has dramatically reduced. I’m pleased that they are open more often and like the live music element but the quality needs considerable improvement. The pub is the perfect ‘walkers’ pub and the location is idillic. Fingers crossed for improvements. I wish this wasn’t Brewery owned as it needs someone to really love it.

Booked for lunch. Went to order from the menu and was told to look at the sign which showed most items where not available. As we had walked there and had children with us had no option but to order food. This took an hour to arrive even though we had booked! The food was not great and kids very grumpy waiting for it!

Oh Dear, what’s has happened….. Went for lunch today and virtually nothing on menu was available. When we made choices very mediocre food and expensive for what it was. We are local but we won’t be coming back.

Lovely spot in the sun for a drink but skip the food! We dropped in on the weekend to try as it has new management. Really disappointing. Very understaffed but same as most places at the moment, so understand the wait time. Agree with other comments, my sandwich was awful, bread was hard and dried out. Couldn’t eat most of it. Large wine £12 which is ridiculous. Too expensive and the food is bad, won’t be returning.

On arrival we were advised a 30 minute wait for food, which we were ok with, it turned out to be 1 hour 10 minutes. It wasn’t even that busy… the staff member who dealt with our complaint about the wait just shouted over the garden “it’s in the queue, I think he’s doing burgers now” When our order arrived (halloumi bites and 2 burgers) the bites were clearly cooked in old oil, they were awful! And the burgers were dry and very disappointing baring in mind they are £17 a go! We used to love coming here but it’s really gone down hill recently. Very disappointing. You’d expect a lot more for the price point of the food and the location. The drinks were fine, but I won’t be eating here again in a hurry.

Nice summer garden with a nice pub but the best vegan option they have is a hummus sandwich! Come on it’s 2023 !

After a long walk we stopped for a drink & dessert. I ordered a selection of ice-cream. I asked what the flavours were & the barman said they differ each day and he didn’t know what it was this particular day. When it arrived it was 3 plain vanilla scoops. No wafer, nothing else. 3 scoops of vanilla is not a selection and expensive for £6. I also had “warm” apple pie which was cold. The waitress looked annoyed. I asked for cutlery & we were told to get it ourselves. Overall a disappointing visit, not very friendly & I wouldn’t return.

Service at the bar was good however it went downhill once ordered food, no communication at point of ordering that there was in excess of an hours wait for food, it was sandwiches and chips. We sat outside and once food arrived had to ask for cutlery, no napkins provided! The food itself was not the best, dry bread, tiny side salad barely two leaves and no dressing, overpriced for what it was. Our plates we had to ask to be cleared and other empty tables were also not cleared - it wasn't particularly busy. I wouldn't recommend, other public houses especially one in Frampton Mansell consistently have it spot on

Lovely old pub in a gorgeous walking location. Stopped for a brilliant Sunday lunch after a nice walk around the area. If there week food is as good as their Sunday lunch you'll be in for a treat! Accommodated us and our pram giving us a table with space, and baby changing facilities available. Loads of space outside for food/beer in the sun. Looking forward to our next visit!

Massively over priced food which took 1hr20 to arrive ( they were not busy) 2 bowls of chips arrive 20 mins before anything else. No cutlery or napkins. Then sat with our empty plates and glasses infront of us for an hour.

Me and my daughter had a sandwich each and a soft drink. I had a granary ham sandwich, no butter and it was literally 2 pieces of dry, slightly hard bread with a piece of ham in between. My daughter had the Coronation chicken on white, which was also very dry bread. It arrived with a very few cheap tasting crisps and a miniscule bit of green leaf. The cost was £9.50 and £11.50 respectively. I have been a cafe owner myself for the last 14 yrs and know that what we had was a complete rip off. It was 12.30pm when we arrived and there was only half a dozen tables sat outside and no wonder! I don't mind paying a fair price for decent food, but don't like being ripped off. Come on guys! Will not be going back.

We love the Daneaway. A very warm and welcoming country pub surrounded in beautiful countryside views. A favourite stop after a long walk. We've only had some of the delicious cakes here, so can't review the menu yet.

Last minute decision to camp for a night and was quite shocked at what some sites were charging. For £10 for the night with a hot shower, toilet and pub on site it was a bargain. The landlords were friendly and accommodating and the campsite is tucked around the corner by a steam out of view from people visiting the pub. Will definitely return.

Beautiful food, lovely staff, lovely vibe and great garden space. Only downside is traffic impeding access and carpark is quite steep but worth it for the service, atmosphere and food!

The food was good and staff pleasant. It was great to see the bar area was cosy and bustling but the restaurant area was cold (one of our party had to keep her outdoor coat on throughout the evening). The unheated plates detracted from the high quality of my meal and the lack of decaffeinated coffee was a disappointment.
