Jack Hare's Bar at The Hare and Hounds Hotel in Cotswold

The food was standard great gastropub/pub food. I chose the burrata and plum as starter and a Caesar salad as my main course. It was rather disappointing to see my burrata with plum seemed to have to been swapped with a stringy mozzarella instead and I had none of the creaminess inside I was looking forward to in a burrata. Waitress was none the wiser and called it a burrata, and as I was with friends I did not pursue the matter.

We stopped enroute to Highgrive house and had a lovely, well-prepared lunch. Light and perfectly spiced. Pea soup was exquisite and the egg, pickled shallot and spinach sandwich was very tasty but could have used just a little more filling. Homemade veg chips were out of this world! Service by quite young servers was lacking polish and timing but otherwise food was quite delicious . Inn looks lovely!

Turned up for a beer with my two brothers after work. Refused service outside for spurious reasons. Told we couldn't have a beer because they were too busy. Very much given the feeling we weren't quite rich enough for their tastes.

Went with friends for a Birthday meal and had a great evening. Few drinks in the bar and then moved into the restaurant for a great meal. I had the pigs cheeks and they were packed full of flavour and across the table of eight we pretty much had every dish on the menu and everyone had a great meal. After great setting and after our meal we went to the extremely comfortable bar area for a few more drinks and a big shout to the young chap (Liam) who looked after us. Will return soon

Our first time in Jack Hare's Bar but will definitely go again. The food was delicious, the young staff were happy, friendly and very efficient. Not huge portion size, which suits me perfectly. All five of us enjoyed the food immensely. Thank you.

Attended a function here and was appalled by the price of drinks! Food and service were ok and atmosphere provided by party guests. But at those prices we won't be back. Parking is also awful.

My daughter booked a room for the 10 of us for my 80th birthday. The food was excellent, as was the service. We had a fantastic evening, young and old!

Very tasty Sunday Lunch. When we went there was a choice of chicken, beef or pork for Sunday roasts and vegetarian options. Meal came with vegetables already plated. Plenty of perfectly cooked meat and a good selection of vegetables. Just three things stopped me giving this 5 stars: if anything there was too much veg for me and having it already plated did not give an option of how much to have; there are better roast potatoes elsewhere - although they were not bad - and the desert were tasty but overpriced. Lovely surroundings and the service from the staff was exceptionally good.

Attending a two day wedding celebration, 4 of us had a meal in the bar on the first evening. Reasonable menu selection and we chose beef burgers and chicken burgers, the bill coming to £85. Good ambience with members of our party, members of the public and some from another wedding in progress. Plenty of places to sit, eat and drink and the staff were all friendly.

One course, booked for 24 senior golfers. Excellent food for price.

I cannot fault the service and dedication of the bar staff. Even though I have been to the hotel many times over the years, the staff give the same attention to all their clients, and I am sure that they all leave with positive thoughts.

We ate in the bar during our stay at the hotel,the food was excellent and service fast and friendly,2 choices of ales on tap.

Although the service was good and the setting very pleasant the food was awful. I had the ravioli. After one mouthful I decided to leave it as it was just a tasteless lump of nothingness. When they cleared the plates no one seemed to care that this was returned virtually untouched.

Arrived here after an abandoned trip to Tetbury where we couldn’t park! Welcomed warmly, seated in front of the log burner. Explained lunch service was almost over and agreed to order quickly but didn’t feel at all rushed. Good choices of sandwich for lunch both ordered beef. Drinks arrived shortly after. Sandwiches were brilliant, tender and rare beef as advertised and good portion of crunchy chips! Bill service extremely courteous too. All simple things done very well, so relieved you can still find a great venue with brilliant staff and great food. We will definitely return.

Just spent a wonderful couple of days at the Hare & Hounds Tetbury with the New Year's package. Room was good, food was very nice and the staff were excellent. I will be back later in the year.

We visited at lunchtime on a wet and windy December day and found Jack Hare's to be warm and welcoming, with a lovely open fire. The service was excellent - staff were attentive and happy to help, and our food arrived quickly. Portions were generous and well cooked. We had a lovely meal and would definitely go back.

We had planned to dine at the Beaufort Restaurant at the same hotel but unfortunately didn't find the menu appealing. We therefore moved to the bar but were disappointed to find there were only 2 additional dishes, a burger and fish and chips. As there were no other eating options nearby we did eat here but did not do so again during our stay. The staff however were very proffessional. Another point of note, I had earlier that day, ordered a decaffeinated flat-white coffee in the hotel lounge. The coffee was very poor and insipid. I commented on this to a member of the management who said they were aware of the problem with the decaffeinated coffee. We were surprised that a 4 star hotel which is part of a substantial hospitality organisation is unable to rectify this.

Used it many times before menu could have been better but owing to covid staff shortage. But still very good well done all the staff.

A warm and welcoming relaxed bar area where we could eat with our dog allowed too. Limited menu given COVID but the food was excellent and not overpriced. Good Wine too.

Lovely place and decor, with quite ample parking. We booked for afternoon tea and it was very quiet. We had plenty of room but it lacked atmosphere. Service was pleasant but didn’t deliver a couple of things we ordered such as water. Service charge annoyingly added on. The afternoon tea itself was very nice but I couldn’t help but feel it was a bit stingy. Only 3 finger sandwiches (one of which cucumber), a delicious mini Victoria sponge .. cut in half ? It looked out of place, could they really not give a whole one, or make them smaller so you get a whole ? There was another cake like this too, a mini Bakewell tart. The choux cake was delicious and the scones were warm. The macaron was excellent. We have afternoon tea a lot and I must admit I would not recommend or return.

We were staying in the hotel and ate in the main restaurant on our first night, so wanted to try a more casual dining experience on the second day. It was extremely quiet but the staff were very pleasant and couldn’t have been more helpful. Covid measures in the hotel are a little confusing generally, as guests are required to wear masks to walk across the lobby but not in the restaurant or bar. Staff do not wear any protective clothing such as masks or gloves at any time, even when serving food. We saw that the tables in the bar were sprayed but not dried with any cloth but nevertheless we felt safe. The menu very much resembled the main restaurant in the hotel but there were pub grub options such as fish and chips. The food was of a good quality and we enjoyed the experience. Good selection of wines and gin! Most pleasant.

Sin embargo, no pudimos encontrar un área sombreada con un entorno de "distanciamiento social", por lo que continuamos hasta Hare and Hounds, justo al final de la calle. ¡Qué sorpresa, ya no esa hostelería básica! Encontramos el hotel más hermoso con enormes áreas de jardines y terrenos, donde todavía podíamos disfrutar de una bebida de "distanciamiento social". Tomamos una copa y luego vino una camarera a darnos la cuenta. Se disculpó porque no había un 50% de descuento, porque solo habíamos comprado alcohol. Le preguntamos si la comida tenía un 50% de descuento y ella dijo ¡SÍ! (los camareros anteriores no habían mencionado el 50% de descuento en comida, aunque preguntaron si queríamos comer y nos proporcionaron menús, el menú era muy agradable, ¿pero los precios eran demasiado para nosotros?). Luego, la camarera, a la que estábamos pagando, nos habló del 50% de descuento en comida. . . ¡Dios la bendiga! No sabíamos por completo que un hotel estaría suscrito a este plan de comer fuera del gobierno. Inmediatamente recordamos el menú y pedimos 2 de las mejores comidas que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo. Comí salmón y mi compañero tenía un bistec muy bien cocinado. Cuando llegamos a casa, miramos el sitio web y descubrimos que estaban ofreciendo algunas habitaciones con descuentos especiales y, aunque a solo unos kilómetros de distancia, ¡ahora estamos considerando una de sus ofertas en el hotel!

We just love this place. The staff are friendly and the service always good. Yes it is a little on the dear side but the food is always good. Only down side I wish they changed the menu more often. Myself and my son had the scotch egg, really tasty and then I had the chicken burger very large. Others had the pie special. You need to be hungry to eat here although we did manage to squeeze in a lovely dessert

Over priced, living on some sort of long gone reputation or just its location, difficult to recommend for food ir drink given its local competition.

La comida era muy buena, dos de nosotros tuvimos el pastel del día, que estaba delicioso y muy abundante. Nuestro amigo tenía la hamburguesa y también lo disfruté mucho.El personal era encantador y amable y conocedor de la comida / alérgenos. Eran sobre si necesitabas bebidas, etc. pero no de una manera que te hiciera sentir apurado o apurado. . . Un buen nivel de servicio.¡Hemos decidido que esto definitivamente se agrega a nuestra lista de lugares preferidos para almorzar!

Nos alojamos en el Hare and Hounds por un par de noches y terminamos comiendo aquí dos veces. Nuestra primera noche no teníamos mucha hambre y compartimos el plato antipasti con un par de cervezas. La presentación fue excelente y la comida deliciosa.La noche siguiente optamos por una hamburguesa y el pescado y las patatas fritas, ambos fueron excelentes. El servicio fue agradable y rápido. Ambiente encantador y confort que hicieron que el precio más alto de lo esperado valiera la pena.

En general, amamos este lugar ya que nos casamos aquí hace 4 años, pero no puedo decir que mi comida fue tan agradable durante 17 años. 50Tuve huevos y papas fritas de gammon, y el gammon estaba muuuy salado, literalmente desde que bebí tanta agua es incómodo.También el servicio era bueno pero nada excepcional.

Ate in Jack Hares bar as there was no dress code and no need to dress for dinner as was requried for th hotel restaurant. Prices for food were quite high, but portions were very large. Opted only for starters as we had had a large lunch. Can certainly recommend the Nachos and Soup of the Day.

We’d been looking for somewhere to eat on our way to Highgrove, and had drawn a blank. We popped in here hoping that they could do us a quick meal - soup or a sandwich maybe.The menu is decent and has a soup of the day and various open sandwiches. My wife chose the soup and I had a bacon, mushroom, deep fried avocado and tomato open sandwich, that came on a flatbread.Both were pretty good and were served quickly enough that we managed to get to Highgrove in time.A good place for a hotel bar.

The Hare and Hounds has for as long as I can remember been the pinnacle of Cotswold charm style and service. On the terrace is relaxed peaceful ambience that is so much more than the average pub beer garden. A favourite after a round of golf at Westonbirt or a walk around the Westonbirt Arboretum.

I have to own up to feeling very underdressed when I placed one sandal shod foot over the threshold of this very smart hotel, but en route to Westonbirt for a hike, this was the answer to a rumbling tum.

Always a pleasure to spend time relaxing in the bar when staying in the hotel, but book early if you want a table as the hotel bar is very popular with residents and locals alike. A wide selection of beverages and good classic menu.

Overpriced beer, overpriced food which is low quality

Called in here, halfway round Route 6 on the Tetbury walks. Lovely friendly service, our dog was made welcome, open sandwiches available mid afternoon which were so delicious, fresh, flavourful and unusual. Really enjoyed our visit.

Visited this bar for the first time. Great experience roomy bar with many select tables. Drinks served very quickly. Table found menu ok both chose the Sea Bream and my wife had a sweet. Food excellent and served very promptly by attentive staff. Will certainly visit again

We stopped on way by for lunch today. I had a lovely humus salad. My partner had a chicken burger. Beer was in good condition. Service was excellent. Great place to stop.

Stayed at the attached hotel and ate lunch and dinner in this bar. Food is very nice and reasonably priced. Most staff are very friendly and helpful. A bit more choice on the menu would be good.

Food was very good however, the service was terrible. Had to go to the bar to ask what the choice was for Sunday Roast - menu only stated ‘Sunday Roast’. I then had to go to the bar again to ask them to take my order(we were first in the pub for lunch and several other people arrived after us and got served before us). We were asked during our meal

Staff are very courteous and polite. Menu is not huge but occasionally they have specials. All the different food i have tried has been excellent. A plus is its dog friendly.

The staff were so friendly, the room was lovely and it is the most dog friendly hotel I have ever visited. Sausage for breakfast for dog and lovely breakfast for owners! We ate in the bar and the food was very good. Lovely location. Will return as soon as we can.

Once again whilst staying at The Hare and Hounds I elected to eat in the bar. To get the atmosphere of a local bar and to have the opportunity to speak to other hotel residents and locals over a drink and a good meal is so welcoming. The earlier times are the best to stand a chance of getting a table as the bar is so popular. 1200-1230 or thereabouts for lunch is a good time, and as soon after 1830 as you can make it for dinner is best to get a table.

After visiting Westonbirt Arboretum we decided to stop off here for lunch and what a great decision it was. From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive, especially Antonio. We opted for the Sunday roast which was served within 15 minutes. Everything was cooked to perfection with no complaints from anyone. We then ordered dessert and went for the Salted caramel apple tart - absolutely scrumptious and even without prompting the Maitre d’ he apologised for it being late, which to be honest we hadn’t noticed. We’ll be back!

We stayed at the Hare and Hounds and ate at Jacks Bar on our arrival. We enjoyed sandwiches and ale. The staff in particular the waitress could have smiled and been more communicative. She gave the impression and her attitude of not wanting to be there. She could have made the visit but only decided us not to eat there again. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was a much better experience.

The service was good and the waiters were very polite and attentive. The food was good but very overpriced for what it was. The beers were very flat to the point of being lifeless - they should really look into it because our entire table had very flat beer. I wouldn't be coming back as it's not a particularly memorable place and was very overpriced for what is basically a glorified pub.

Ordered cauliflower covered in a cheese sauce with cashews nuts, cauliflower wasn’t even cooked served up raw the only thing which was nice was the watercress

I love this place. We are frequent visitors as live locally. We’ve popped in for week day lunches, dinners and Sunday lunches. Went for lunch recently, main courses were great as usual. We then had a cheese board costing £9.50. You have never seen a smaller cheese board - ever! Three slivers of cheese a few biscuits, no butter. It was very tasty - the quality cannot be denied, but was really not worth £9.50

£50 for a bottle of wine and hugely increased prices for food - £18 for a burger - beware. We live locally and have been there on many occasions and prices for food were not this high. Will think before going there again. We wanted a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanca and stupidly did not look at the price.

We are regular visitors to this bar as it’s close to Westonbirt arboretum. The ambience is great, it’s dog friendly and the staff are always pleasant. However, today the food was just so disappointing it’s put us off returning. We ordered two simple sandwiches, one came on cold toast with hardly any filling. Yet it was meant to be on fresh bread. A side order was forgotten so we tried to cancel it but it turned up towards the end of meal, undercooked. It’s a pricy bar for a snack lunch so clearly we expected a far better quality of food, which sadly today we didn’t get.

We've been to Jack Hare's Bar several times. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and the service has always been good in our experience. This evening's meal for 4 people consisted of 3 pints of lager, 1 J2O, 1 starter (olives and bread), 3 burgers and chips,1 fish and chips, 2 desserts, 2 coffees - total cost £120!!!!!!!!!!!!! The fish and chips were ok. The burgers were "good" and the desserts were nice.

Fabulous Jack HARE restaurant along with accommodations (we did not stay overnight). Sunday roast and sandwiches just divine along with the best cup of coffee so far. Dog friendly which is always pleasant. Eclectic HARE and hound decor abounds to make this a special spot. Just loved it. Service is slow or relaxed depending on how much of a rush you are in.

Delicious food and very good service. The menu is on the pricey side but you get what you pay for, great quality food and huge portion sizes! We sat outside as it was very sunny, only downside is that it's pretty noisy due to being right on a main road. Not too much of a problem! We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

The bar food at jack hare’s bar is really good, and if you’re not in the mood for the more formal restaurant this is a terrific alternative. Our group of 6 shared starters all of which were well presented, a good portion and tasty: asparagus, tuna tartare, bresaola beef, spring rolls; soup of the day.

We had a soft shell crab burger with salad and sweet potato chips, which we enjoyed. The fish and chips looked a good choice.

I have returned to the Hare and Hounds many times over the years and never disappointed by the quality of the food and service in the bar.

We ate in the bar whilst staying at the hotel. The menu options were good and reasonably priced. Food served was of good quality and generous portions. We found the bar service quite slow even though they were not busy and clearance of plates also quite slow which knocks the overall mark down a notch from good to average.

Visited as part of a family meal. Was slightly disappointed as a lot of the dishes were not available as they were due to close to works. I went for the hot dog which was nicely done, everyone was pleased with their meals. The service was good. I would like to return to try some of the dishes that were not available when we visited. Found the atmosphere was lovely and the seating was comfy.

Jack Hare's Bar caters for all tastes. Bar snacks to all you can eat.............. The food is excellent quality and the service is second to none.

Lovely bar with marvellous staff. Extensive menu, children friendly, they welcome dogs. There was even doggy treats.

Broke away from our Westonbirt visit to enjoy the comfort and relaxed dining at Jack Hare's which is part of The Hare and Hounds Hotel, another in the quality Cotswold Inns Group.

We came here after going for a walk around Westonbirt Arboretum and with three hangry kids. We were surprised that we were able to get a table given the arboretum was packed but we managed to get the big table in the Boot Room.

Highly recommended. Extensive menu, the aged steak was very good according to my husband, and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourmeal

Popped in briefly for a quick drink and thought it was so nice we may well return when in the area. Friendly staff lovely decor - all in all a very nice Bar environment. Sadly didn't have the time to try the food but what we did see coming out of the kitchen looked very good.
