We were a group of 25 and planned a set meal with Steve and Jules. We were not disappointed. The food, service and organisation was first class. We can certainly recommend it. Thank you for a super evening.

Wow what a lovely place to eat and drink. Met the new owner Steve who was very nice and welcoming. Garlic bread was amazing and to have a choice of which cheese you wanted on it was a great touch. Dinner was delicious and a great price. Absolutely stuffed you will not go hungry 😋 if you get a chance to pop in, well worth the visit.

Went for a birthday dinner which was delicious. Had been previously and had Sticky Toffee Pudding which was delicious. The building is so lovely and staff very friendly. Definitely be back.

Have been coming here for so many years, and have loved the wonderfully diverse and interesting chalkboard menu items. Have been taking my dogs here for their birthdays, as there was a lovely mined beef and gravy on the doggy menu. Sadly, arrived today at 1pm, there was one car in the car park and strange 'breakfast menu' outside. Went inside, no more menu specials, just a run of the mill menu. I was informed that a new 'manager' had been installed, obviously the one with the board rubber. To top it all, even the dog's menu was bad, unbelievable 'vegan platter, with vegan gravy'. For. A. Dog!! That said it all, we left.

I love this country pub! It was always one of my favourite pubs when I lived in the UK - I used to visit it every few months as the food was always so good. After living in Australia for 27 years, I returned to the UK for a short holiday. I decided this place was on my "must visit" list. It didn't disappoint, we had a lovely meal here. The staff were friendly and courteous, the food arrived quickly and was delicious.

Chicken pie and veg was nice but wife uninspired by her egg, bacon, chips

Awful food and no apologies just lies. Sold ribeye steak, the only steak on the menu turned up some leathery half gristle tough piece of steak, was certainly not rib eye, was told outright it was! Over cooked chewy cheap cut of god knows what! Garlic bread was on a soggy bit of baguette butter not cheese melted. Awful food will never come back here again!

Stopped for an impromptu evening meal yesterday evening and were made to feel very welcome from the outset by Steve. The Golden Heart Inn offers an excellent menu choice and a comprehensive range of drinks, in a historic country pub setting. There is a lovely garden with tables behind the pub, looking out across the local fields. The quality of the food was excellent. We hope to visit again before too long, when passing through the area. Highly recommended!

I rang about an hour before arriving. and stayed there via Brit Stops. I had a lovely vegan breakfast in the morning. The staff are incredibly welcoming and pleasant to talk to, and the food is great quality. highly recommend.

First visit for breakfast. We warmed with a long walk around Brimpsfield and Birdlip, then had a massive breakfast bap in the beer garden! It's a gorgeous setting and the pub is lovely inside.

Amazing. The staff are absolutely lovely and the Man whom I assume owns it was a gentleman. We drove down from Glasgow for RIAT and passed this lovely place. Decided to grab brekkie before our long journey back home. Three full breakfasts, good portions (we were too full to finish) and such a reasonable price for such high quality food. Stayed there for the night in our camper van (for free!). Very cosy pub on the side of the road. Good selection of vegan and gluten free food. They even have vegan wine and delicious hand-pumped ales. Special thanks to Steve, the very nice and helpful man behind the bar!

We have passed the inn so many time in the last 6 months. Saying looks lovely, must eat there sometime. Today was the day. I wish we had done this before. Parking great. Staff absolutely warm and friendly. Food well yummmmmmmm. Very reasonable prices. Will be coming again. Thank you.

I've driven passed this pub so many times, but never called in. I'm glad I did though. The food was great, as was the service. It's a really nice place!

I popped in quickly due to the ridiculous traffic on the roadworks, I’ve driven past 1000 times and never stopped! What a delightful pub, full of history and character and lovely staff, I spoke to the landlord for a while who told me about the building and the roadworks and the barmaid was helpful and pleasant to deal with. I opted for the bacon Brie and cranberry sandwich, it was delicious and all very reasonably priced. I will definitely pop in again when I’m passing.

This pub is a great place for a meal and a drink. Six of us visited for an evening meal and everything was faultless - the service, drinks, food and price were all excellent. Inside the pub, it's traditional and has a lovely atmosphere. The meals were exceptionally good in quality and size, and I can't wait to go again.

Been here twice, both times after a festival in Eastnor, and it's been by far the best of the three or four other pubs we pass en-route by virtue of: 1. being open, 2. serving a full menu, 3. wanting to serve people, 4. not chasing potential customers in the carpark saying we're ungrateful for them offering us (reluctantly) "ham, eggs, chips" (ugh). (double ugh, "cooked" by a punter with dirty fingernails). The other place also didn't appreciate us driving in after crossing a road. (they'll get a 1 star review) 5. friendly person/people wanting to serve not-locals 6. nice atmosphere even when we were the only people in the place Added to my starred locations for the trip home in two years time.

We come to this pub once a year when we're in Gloucestershire for Badminton Horse Trials. It's a really cosy quaint old pub, serving good food at a reasonable price. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I loved my nut roast and my family enjoyed their meat roasts. The puddings were just as good. We'll be back next year!

We were stabling at the Rectory Farm Arena nearby and called last minute for a table. We got the last tables of the evening. The restaurant was busy - we were lucky - and the open fires were welcome given the storm outside. The normal menu offers typical pub food but were complemented by a number of additional choices on a blackboard. We had a number of these specials and they were very good. I should mention the staff and the owner. We were looked after very well despite booking late, it being busy and not being regulars. We were asked several times whether we needed anything further - in a sincere and helpful manner. Thank you for the evening. A welcome respite from the storm outside.

Orderd 2 roast beef Sunday lunch,worst meal ever ,3 slices of roast beef ,sliced way to thin.3 roasts to hard to cut ,1 small yorkshire pud,looked like aldis.geavy to watery ,carrots had no taste ,cabbage ok,portion size was way to smal.we had to have it heated up.

What a lovely little find. Steve and Juls were just fab. Caitlin, the lady behind the bar was lovely as was the chef. Everyone had a smile and made us feel very welcome. The food was amazing and very well presented. The open fire made the experience even more homely. I can guarantee it won't be too long before we return .

Been to this place many times, food was excellent, staff very attentive and polite. The manager chap, or if he’s not the manager he should be..jonty, if I recall, was ensuring all the staff knew what to do and when, Very charming young man !! And an excellent chef !! 100% recommend this place !!

My family visited here for lunch. There was a good choice on the menu however I would have liked to see more gluten free options for starters. There was a good choice of GF/Vegan main meals. I had the Vegan Mushroom Stroganoff with rice and that was delicious. The meals are quite large and everybody enjoyed them. We were all full so none of us could manage a dessert so we will have to go back again to try the puddings. A big well done to all the staff for being so friendly and professional.

! Worst meal I’ve ever eaten in my life! We had the beef roast dinner and the beef was basically a plate of processed canned fat. The roast potatoes looked like they were a week old and almost snapped my teeth could only eat one bite. The Yorkshire pudding was a frozen aunt Bessie’s and they couldn’t even manage to cook that it was like cardboard. Vegetables all microwaved. The Pepsi was flat as a fart and staff rude… SAVE YOUR MONEY AND STOMACH AND SO NOT GO HERE!!

As impressive as always. We ate the slow cooked pork loin with creamy Stilton sauce and steak pie, both delicious, tasty new potatoes, vegetables and fluffy and crispy chunky chips.

Very poor. Staff were nice enough,and there was a good fire going, and the wine was good but, dearie me, the food is terrible. Have been here a couple of times (there’s not a lot of competition round here) and it never fails to disappoint. The burger is simply disgusting, greasy, grey, appalling, while the roast looked dire. I would suggest that the slices were not hewn from an on-site, lovingly cooked piece of beef, but slipped from a frozen pack pre-sliced and brought to heat. Really needs to up its game because it could be very good with a little love and effort.

The strangest pub I’ve ever been too. Was very excited about menu range here, but we walked in and it was silent and we got stared at. Staff were u helpful and we v quickly decided to leave. No vibes

Meals were not as good as other places we have eaten

This pub wasn’t exactly what we were expecting. My partner and I had seen pretty good reviews so chose to visit during our stay in the Cotswolds. We walked in and there were 0 vibes, the atmosphere was completely dead. We asked the staff if we could get a table for two and they were pretty unhelpful and seemed more annoyed that we’d bothered her, they just gestured and said “yeah if there’s not a blackboard on there”. We found a small table where we sat for all of 5 minutes before agreeing it was too uncomfortable to stay for a meal. Can’t express how awkward it felt. When in the car park googling other local pubs we also saw another couple do exactly what we did (walk in, sit down, almost immediately get up to leave…) We visited The Green Dragon instead which had a great atmosphere and food!

This is a favourite for us. Great place to finish a walk with our dog. Varied menu and never been disappointed with the quality of the food. Good hearty meals. Excellent for vegans and vegetarians as great choice. Tried crocodile there a few years ago and although now not on the menu it illustrates the breadth of choice. Recommended!

This is in a very rustic old building which has a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. We had a long wait for food and service but the restaurant was busy so that was to be expected.

This is an awesome pub with hard working efficient staff. Good food, interesting main courses, amazing atmosphere. You can't beat a drink in front of the open fire on a winter's day.

This is a fantastic traditional pub serving a good range of unusual food along with pub classics. Cosy rooms with log fires. Efficient service. We have visited as a family and with a group of 25. Every time the food is freshly cooked and delivered with a smile. Well worth trying the ostrich or kangaroo! Relaxed environment, good car park, footpath from the door. Highly recommended.

A pub of nooks and crannies with a fireplace where you could roast a pig. Good beer but noted a lot of tables were reserved for later in the day ( Sunday at 12 when I visited). A wide variety on the menu, with Sunday lunch through to Osterich steaks.

Fabulous relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff.

Our party was 18 people we had our own separate dining area , we pre ordered a member of staff checked all of our orders before they were cooked to make sure everything was correct, All of our meals arrived pretty much together, we have visited the Golden Heart with a large party on a few occasions we have always received excellent food and service as we did this time, would definitely recommend

Fab food and a great range of dishes and specials at decent prices. Service was a bit slow, they seem to be trying to recruit more staff, which would help. It was cold in there though, we had to keep coats on. There was a small log fire in one room but that wasn't enough to heat the whole place and the windows are all single glazed. It's an historic building, I get that, and a pretty one at that. But no excuse not to have a big roaring log fire (or three!) on a cold day.

We have not visited for several years ago, when we thought the food was good but prices a touch high. Now, I think that other places have increased their prices more than the GH. Very comfortable, rustic country pub: it can be a little chilly on cold winter days, but perfect if you can grab a spot by the fire as we did today. Ignore the printed menus and check out the extensive blackboard list of very original dishes, with a very impressive vegan choice. Also daily specials: today, beef stew and dumplings (obviously enjoyed by someone on nearby table), or an impressive venison pie which we had, both at £12.50. Included sides plentiful, fresh, and served in separate dishes. Order at the bar, but service at the table was perfectly timed (no long wait but no rush either), friendly people. One small issue, item involved immediately removed from the bill without a request. We will not leave it as long before we return! Small gripe: "service not included", when food and drinks must be ordered at the bar, but tips are at customers' discretion after all.

Went today at 2.30 for a roast. Served at around 3.35. Massive Que at the bar . Had to wait around 30 mins to get served. When the food eventually came had to wait around another 10 minutes for the gravy, no surprise all the food had gone cold by then. Definitely will not go back.

Really decent menu. We had lamb shank x 3, beef pie and kids spag bol. All excellent. Theres a good selection vegan menu too. The staff are really friendly, and there was a roaring fire to warm us up on arrival. Highly recommend this lovely pub.

It saddens me to write this review as I have always been very fond of the Golden Heart having been going there on and off for the past 26 years or so. I am still fond of the premises and I have also reflected in the breakdown of the star rating that the service was perfectly decent as was the atmosphere. However, a large group of us were there for food last night, and there were a good number of us that were not at all impressed with the food itself. Sadly, this happened to us on the previous occasion that we went too. My wife also found her meal unsatisfactory the time before that as well. Given the number of times we’ve now experienced bad food there that really does seem to be as if it’s old food stock (my chilli tasted stale!) microwaved up, and in some cases not enough microwaving(!) we are now feeling that we are unlikely to return to the Golden Heart for food. As I say, this saddens me a great deal as I am fond of the place and the staff serving us were nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the actual product being served doesn’t cut it, and that’s one of the main parts which brings my rating of the place considerably down in spite of enjoying the atmosphere and appreciating good service. Had those been lacking, my overall rating would have been one star. I was toying with the idea of awarding 3 stars on account of the fact that the service and the atmosphere were 5 stars, but the food matter is unacceptable, particularly when you consider that you would get a better chilli at Wetherspoon's for a fraction of the price - I feel that 3 stars would not send enough of a message to the proprietors that this needs sorting out. I genuinely do wish the Golden Heart well, and it is likely to have hard times ahead with the missing link work and then the completed project being likely to hit their footfall further, but for survival in such circumstances, they need a better incentive for people to make the effort to go there I’m afraid… Golden Heart, please take heed - I would honestly like to say that I will one day come back through the doors.

Your perfect lil Cotwolds pub/eatery. Very dog friendly. With plenty of, but not to much choice of menu. Beautiful surroundings, beautiful atmosphere with pleasant helpful staff. I'm no food critic but their chef is amazing!!! My rating? Go, now, you won't be disappointed!!! Excellent. 👍

Although a little run down in appearance, the food and drink are very good. In particular the gammon, eggs and chips were spot on, and both bottles of wine we had were excellent. Found a table for us at short notice for 4 people and dog. Only one guy looking after the downstairs section meant he was run off his feet, but he did manage to look after everyone more than satisfactorily as well as tend the roaring blaze of a fire..

Didn’t have high hopes when we walked in on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon to find it empty, but I have no idea why! The 2 guys serving were lovely, amazing selection of vegan choices which is so rare, and food was lovely and well presented. Lovely to take the dog and look over the fields 👍

Nice little find when staying in the Cotswold. Brilliant menu with lots of choice and decent portions. Food was service and well presented - a little on the over cooked side (we had Thai chicken and liver dishes) but nice enough. 👌 Service was lovely; staff were absolutely lovely. We started eating in garden but it was a bit noisy (understandably) and a bit on the scruffy side, but overall it is a charming place well worth a visit.

We stopped at The Golden Heart Inn on our way to Cotswolds. The place is very cosy, good choice of food, drinks and deserts. The staff are very nice and regularly checking if all is OK.

Lovely pub with delicious food! We got the kangaroo steak, the chicken, harissa, and chickpea filo pie, and the sticky toffee pudding. All were prepared very well and the staff were helpful and friendly. Good selection of drinks too. Definitely recommend stopping in if you are in the area!

Kangaroo burger was great, as was the Reindeer burger. Previously had the lamb shank here that just fell off the bone. Yum!

Came here for a meal out whilst visiting the Cotswolds. Gorgeous food, incredibly friendly service and we would come again. Great vegan options! Our dog loved all the staff who kindly gave her a dog bowl and lots of fuss. 5 stars!

Food was spot on!! We came for dinner and both had zebra burgers which were amazing!!! Staff were very welcoming and the pub had a lovely warm feeling to it. We will definitely be back, thanks guys!

We have stopped at this pub a couple of times to eat when halfway to the South. If we lived in the area we would visit much more. The staff are first class. Very friendly and appreciative of custom. Absolutely horrendous, atrocious and mind bogingly expensive. I heartily (irony intended) that you avoid this at all cost (pun intended) I'd be more insulting but my belly can't stomach anymore of this indigestible (and apparently what passes for) food.

This was a return visit to the Golden Heart on our journey home. It's in a great location if we're heading that way. Warm welcome, nice staff, good food and drinks. What more do you want?

There is a very varied menu and a good choice of veg and vegan, along with some unusual options - like zebra burgers! We had a steak and Stilton pie with Mash and lots of veg and a tasty veg Kerelan curry. Staff were friendly and they serve good pale ales.

The "real deal" historic pub, with excellent food (we love what we had, and sneaked peeks at everybody else's food coming out as well!). Friendly service and historic, but comfortable atmosphere. Good news for vegans, massive set of options on the board... Don't be fooled by the website where there's just a few listed. Also nice to play the board games left for guests... Amazingly this 16th century pub was at risk of demolition due to road expansion, a fate that befell it's 18th century neighbor, astonishing.

The Golden Heart is on a well worn path for me and I often stop for a meal either on my own or with friends. The pub either has an olde World charm or needs updating, depending on how prissy you are. I love it here; there is always a warm friendly welcome and the staff and the other customers are friendly and chatty. There are open fires in the Winter and cosy little corners to sit and eat in. You can also sit in the garden, if you wish. The food is absolutely outstanding and very exciting indeed. Today, I went with my husband and we ate kangaroo steaks - yes, you did read that correctly. The meat is soft and tender and has a fabulous flavour. It was served with a good selection of fresh, seasonal vegetables and an exquisite sauce. Our plates were completely empty when we had finished Polite dogs are also given a warm welcome and a bowl of water and there is a stack of Country Life magazines to flick through.

Never any problems at The Golden Heart. As a family we love it . Dog friendly too .

Genuinely the best dining experience ive ever had! Best steak ever and my girlfriend and I absolutely loved every part of it
