Food was nice, but the menu is very restricted with most items carrying a supplement, which made the meal much more expensive than advertised. Not four star standard as the hotel purports to be. The decor is very tired, the chairs are grubby and the carpet just dirty. The staff do their best, but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. It clear the owners have lost interest in the hotel and leave the staff to run the place.

Ate here on Saturday night during peak summer season as a non resident. Was surprised to find only 5 tables occupied. Mixed feelings about our meal. If it hadn't been for our very friendly young waiter I may have only given 3 stars. Impressive looking hotel with driveway entrance and expansive grounds. Restaurant is a smart set up in the conservatory with white linen tablecloths and napkins. Set price menu - £27.50 2 courses / £35 3 courses with a few choices with supplements. Food was well cooked and reasonably tasty although could have done with more seasoning. Portions, however, were small and you might still be hungry if you have a big appetite. No bread basket provided so ordered focacia with olive oil and basalmic which was an extra £3.50 and just two slices. Also took ages to arrive - some time after our starter was delivered. Two courses, two sides plus cappucinos and bottle of wine for two totalled £90, before tip and overall it was fine but not especially memorable.

My husband had booked a night away for my birthday & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a spacious room with views over the gardens. After a delicious cream tea we then went to the Spa & had a relaxing massage followed by time spent in the sauna & steam room. The 3 course evening meal in the restaurant was excellent with plenty of staff who were all very pleasant. There was a wide choice for each course which was all very tasty. Breakfast was equally as good. Service again was excellent. We had a lovely stay & look forward to returning.

Had the set price 3 course lunch. Fantastic value at £21.95. The food was of a very high standard, starter was on the small side, but that was more of my choice. Pan fried chicken was my main with a bubble and squeak and veg, followed by sticky toffee pudding. Quiet in the restaurant, but reallly enjoyed it, good service

We arrived and all looked great. We were checked in quickly; room in the Coach House was lovely, spacious, a little old fashioned perhaps but all clean & tidy. We went for dinner in the restaurant and the food was all nice. Service was good- not slick but still good and we retired to bed quite late after drinks in the lounge. However on returning to our room we were confronted with no running water, hot or cold. We called reception and the manager came over- yes we were correct there was no running water. I called the rest of my party (we had 4 rooms in total) 3/4 rooms were without water. I told the manager and he assured me they would deal with it first thing in the morning so we went to sleep. Not ideal as I am pregnant and obviously needed the loo all night (with no flushing toilet) or taps. We weren’t offered to change rooms and we weren’t offered any extra bottled water to wash our faces etc but we were tired so we went to sleep. In the morning we called reception to check on the updates as still no water - no one had heard anything about our complaint so they would deal with it now. Our entire party called separately and were told they didn’t know about it. We didn’t hear from anyone with updates and weren’t offered any solutions (except for it doesn’t usually happen) at 9 o clock (2 hours later) I went to reception to demand to be moved -as we had to get ready for a wedding we were attending and they were still faffing hours after we had called them with no updates. At that point they gave us other rooms all over hotel (we had booked 4 rooms close together 18months before) and were only offered to change rooms after I insisted this was also the first apology we had received. We then went to breakfast- whilst the cooked option was fine there were flies all over the buffet and nothing was covered. This was the case both days we went down for breakfast. I have to state they did give us the first night complimentary but the stress of having to call, chase and then go to reception to get them to do anything for us was rather disappointing and not the service you would expect for a luxury spa hotel. This reason not the issue itself is the reason for poor review.

We were looking for a nice place for lunch in the Cotswolds on a Monday and this was the only place who seemed to want to answer the phone when I was ringing round first thing in the morning and I also learned that most good hotel restaurants are not open for lunch early in the week, which surprised us. Luckily, a charming and happy lady took my call at Wyck House and we received the same warm welcome when we arrived. We seemed to be the only customers apart from a couple of ladies who had been in the spa, and the staff were clearly multi-tasking across the bar and restaurant, so there were a few times when nobody was around, but our waiter did a great job. The food was very good indeed, imaginatively presented, perfect portion sizes and excellent value. Wine list was also good but mostly over £30. We would certainly consider staying here for DBB and will definitely be back for lunch again soon.

We stayed at Wyck Hill House to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. From the moment we walked through the door, we were met with a welcome reception from more than helpful staff. I had let the hotel know that it was my boyfriend’s birthday in advance and requested a nice room, to our delight they upgraded our room and a complimentary bottle of champagne was waiting for us! The food at the hotel was outstanding and the setting is idyllic for a getaway from the city. We had a truly enjoyable stay which made it a very memorable weekend. Highly recommend a stay here, we’ll certainly be returning!

Stayed at the hotel for two nights. Arrived early at 1pm one hour before check in and advised to wait in the bar. We sat on uncomfortable old chairs (which were to be expected as this is their type of image) there was plenty of dust and used tissues under the furniture, which looked several days old. The view over the lawned area was obscured by the dirty windows. Nearly all of the staff were foreigners (Romanian) who spoke varying levels of english, from poor to average. The whole area looked tired and dirty, certainly in need of some attention.

Followed by coffee , all absolutely delicious and the service lacked nothing , Highly recommended. We will Return.

We have dined (and stayed) at Wyck Hill House a number of times during the past 15 years. Several years ago I reviewed the hotel and restaurant on Tripadvisor, raving about the food and lodging in the feature rooms. Ten years ago, I took my family there to celebrate my 60th birthday. It was perfect. We recently visited with another couple and wanted them to enjoy the Wyck Hill dining experience. The hotel appears unchanged since we last stayed there (about 4-5 years ago). We found the dining room rather chaotic however. The serving staff was very pleasant, but their English was so poor that we could not understand the menu items. They tried hard, but it was obvious to us that management had failed to provide them with any training. One of our guests opted for one of the fish specials, which out server described as "Hooley Voot". He admitted that he had no idea what it was. He returned to the kitchen and brought us the Hooley Voot spelling. As it turned our, it was halibut. Perhaps we should have guessed that, but I really don't think we should have to guess.

Earlier this year we decided to have a family get together for Sunday Lunch on the occasion of my Dad's 70th and Wyck Hill is a very convenient location for us. is We find it a very relaxing location with plenty of choice of indoor and outdoor seating and the hotel being surrounded by garden area and a fantastic view of the Cotswolds. The restaurant is a lovely light conservatory style restaurant which on a summer day is a joy to be in. We found the food as on previous visits well prepared, the roast beef was rare, an unusual thing to have in a restaurant, most of us enjoyed it, but they were happy to cook some pieces a little longer if it wasn't to your liking. The portions were very good, even the children's portions were virtually adult sized. After lunch was over we were able to sit outside with cups of tea and coffee and the staff brought my Dad out his birthday cake all cut up with plates and napkins. We stayed for over 4 hours and never felt like we should be leaving, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. This wasn't our first visit and we will definitely be back

Having lived in the Cotswold for over 30 years and having been a regular costumers at Wick Hill, when it was a fantastic hotel,(be it a long time ago!), I suggested to my wife to see if we could arrange a Family Lunch at the hotel, being conveniently situated about half- way for us and for our son and his family to travel. On Saturday afternoon, we popped in the hotel and had a look around to see if any changes had been made recently. When I looked at the Restaurant and asked if they had a old copy of their Sunday Lunch menu, I was directed to Reception. Noticing that there weren't any round table in the Restaurant, I then asked the young man in a suit, (he gave the impression of being in a senior position), if they would arrange a round table for a party of 7, he replayed: we don't normally have round tables in the Restaurant, but if you really want one we, can arrange it for you; which I thought was very nice and accommodating!Completely different approach when I got to Reception and asked the young lady there, if I could make a reservation for a party of 7 for Sunday Lunch on the 21st of September. She almost immediately erected a wall in front of my request!... First she told me to get in touch with the reservation department; when I asked why she could not take the reservation herself, she replayed that for that number of guests we needed to pre-order our meals in advance and possibly also pay a deposit! When I commented that it was only a party of 7 and not 70, she then replayed, and I quote: "This what we do in hotels!".My replay to her was: I have worked in hotels for over 50, (yes 50 years!), so please do not tell me what we do in hotels! When I told her to forget everything and asked her, if I could have the name of the General Manager, she then immediately changed from, (what I felt), her almost superior approach and became a lot more accommodating! Too late.... the damage was already done!It goes without saying, that we took our money elsewhere! Even after the "Front of House Manager", had sent us a very nice and apologetic e-mail on the same afternoon; re-assuring usthat everything was sorted out and we would be welcome to Wick Hill House for our Lunch.I am not sure if the hotel has a major training issue or if they employ people absolutely not suited for what is a demanding customer service industry; or possibly both! Either way they have a problem! As I told the General Manager, (when he contacted me at home this morning), I personally would never return to this hotel and certainly would tell my friends to do likewise.

We were pleasantly surprised at how good this restaurant is. Tucked away behind the bar room, this restaurant incldes two rooms with views and great ambiance. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. We enjoyed 2 breakfasts and a dinner. Service was exemplary-friendly and informative, The breakfast fare was typical - choices of Continental or hot, and hot could be full English breakfast or smoked Scottish salmon and scrambled eggs. Focusing on dinner, we had the likes of chicken liver pates, charcuterie. lamb. beef, salads, sea trout. All fare was savory and prepared to order. Desserts were simple and cafes delicious.

We have visited the Cotswolds in early December for the last 16 years and always find a good (named) restaurant at which to eat. We were most impressed with the food here and it was certainly as good as a couple with more prestigious reputations. I could bore you with our choices, but it was the presentation, the flavours and the attention to detail which impressed us. These are plates of nouvelle cuisine food which do not leave you feeling hungry and, more importantly, do not leave you feeling bloated. I've seen bits of other reviews and we found nothing negative about the service. We've already decided to go back next year.

We were very disappointed with our experience at the Wyck Hill House restaurant. Firstly, the chef did offer us a second option for veggie main course. We took this up. The portion size was more starter size than main course. The risotto was good. The most disappointing aspect was the service. No matter how good the food, the waiting staff didn't seem to know any details about the food on the menu. Very robotic service. We asked for fresh black pepper and the waitress said they didn't have any! At the end of the evening we saw plenty of pepper mills on the other tables!

My wife and I have stayed at the hotel twice and eaten in the restaurant four times. We stayed in the main house once, the room was large and very comfortable (even if the floorboards creaked a little). The second stay, last weekend, was in the Orangery, again large room with full width patio doors onto a private terrace which was lovely even in the autumn mornings. Both times we have stayed we have eaten in the restaurant and it has always been very good. not young and 'funky' but very comfortable and relaxing. We live in Brighton and have eaten in all the 'rated' places in the town, Wyck Hill is at least the equal of the best that Brighton has to offer, and to take coffee and port in the library with an open fire in the autumn is a real treat.
