Well, ideally placed for a break for Lunch, en route from Hayling Island to Brilley, near Hay on Wye. Our first visit on a Sunday. Extended menu. Opted for the Sea Bass Fillets with Prawns. Two, generous Fillets, Potato Rosti with a fine selection of veg and some lentils. Quite magnificent. For Desert we both opted for Affogato, a personal favourite. Truly excellent. Generous offering of Vanilla Ice Cream with an excellent Espresso. A wonderful combination. See you next July... Hayling Seagoon

Went to The Masons Arms recently for Sunday Lunch and it was outstanding. Three of us had the Roast Taster and it was spectacular! Roast beef, chicken and pork topped with a huge Yorkshire pudding and the gravy really is awesome! Wonderful tender stem broccoli and lovely al dente heritage carrots complemented the roasts. Add in some crispy roasties and it was gorgeous. Two of my girls had the steak frites and they thoroughly enjoyed them too! Followed by some wonderful homemade desserts and this was a fabulous Sunday lunch! Service was faultless too! Well done all.

A dog friendly pub. Four of us went for dinner here. Staff were very professional and polite and checked with each order for allergies. Set meals , two options (starter & main or main and dessert) for 19 pounds. Most mains could be gluten free & gf options available for dessert. Food servings were large and everything was delicious. A number of small extra touches from the staff made our night out very pleasant. We didn't feel rushed and it was altogether a lovely night out.

Good selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. Great selection on the menu. Booking a table is advised and it was very busy when my wife and I were there. Our room, number 4, was one of the smallest but more than enough space. Double bed. I recently visited The Masons Arms and was thoroughly impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere of this cosy pub nestled in the heart of the Cotswold Water Park area. The country bar, complete with a roaring open fire during the winter and the delightful option to dine on the village green on sunny days, offers the perfect setting for a memorable meal. Greg and Vicki bring to The Masons Arms 20 years of experience in running pubs, and it really shows. They've made this place shine with a menu that boasts classics like succulent pork belly, local venison, and a variety of vegetarian options, not to mention the mouthwatering burgers. The chicken in my Sunday roast was perfectly cooked, moist, and flavourful, a testament to their commitment to exceptional food. They clearly take pride in offering outstanding customer service. We enjoyed our Sunday Lunch so much that we also went there for an Evening Meal a few days later. On both occasions the staff were very polite helpful and efficient. This place is an olde world Cotswold pub. The place oozed local ambience and character. It is a pleasant place to go for a meal. There is a good choice of menu available on the two occasions that we visited. Prices were slightly higher than I would have liked but the quality, the standard and servings were good. The meals were nicely presented and tasted delicious. Car parking is on street. There seemed to be plenty of places to park without any problems. I was happy with my visits and will go there again when I am next in the area.

Stayed with family Sep 2023 for a wedding, so did not get to spend anywhere near as much time in the pub/hotel as we'd have liked. The village setting is idyllic and the cosy pub and hotel are exactly what you'd expect from an old, grade II listed cotswold stone-built establishment. While we spent minimal time actually in the hotel, the team were very friendly and did everything they could for us, from getting rooms ready early for us to change in before the wedding to assisting with a taxi service. One of the kids left airpods in the room which were found and returned by post quickly and efficiently. Breakfast was superb; locally produced and hearty full english. I really hope to be back sometime soon.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We stayed here for two nights in August as we were going to a wedding locally. I feel bad writing a negative review given they're a small business, but equally I think people should have an honest idea of what to expect when staying here because it is hugely overpriced for what you get. For the record, I've not written a TripAdvisor review before so I'm not one of 'those' people who seem to do it as a hobby. If you want to stay overnight, don't be fooled by the 4.5 * rating on here - it's because of the restaurant. The 'hotel' is sadly 2* at best. Firstly the pros: - Lovely restaurant / pub downstairs. We only had breakfast, but the vibe is exactly what you'd expect from a cosy Cotswolds pub. - Breakfast was good - all freshly cooked, not a buffet situation so make sure you allow time (we had breakfast included, but if you want any other coffee than cafetiere, you need to pay for it) - We knew we'd be arriving late after the pub closed, so they arranged to leave our key in a lockbox with clear instructions Now the cons: - The rooms are painfully smaller than they look in the photos, and they already look pretty small - it was uncomfortable staying even for one night let alone two (they're dog friendly, but if you have anything bigger than a chihuahua, it is completely unsuitable. We have a small golden retriever and would have been screwed if we'd brought her) - It is so dark and dingy that I had to do my makeup by phone light (and I fake tanned... you can imagine the results) - As soon as you walk into the room, there's a really strong smell of damp - even with several diffusers placed around the room - It is absolutely boiling in the rooms - they'd put a fan in there which helped a bit, but the windows don't open properly and blinds were broken and stuck shut, so it's impossible to get fresh air into the room - They advertise on their website that there's free wifi in every room, but there's a typed-up, framed sign on the wall in the rooms saying it actually doesn't work in all rooms, and apologising if you're in one of those rooms. Fair enough it's an old country building, but it is really cheeky to advertise something if it only applies to some rooms - both my husband and I needed to do work calls in the morning and weren't able to. We'd have had to book elsewhere if we'd known. - A few hooks on the wall in the corner is a 'wardrobe', but this is directly over a little corner desk, so not usable - The toiletries they supply are pretty ridiculous - you get about a shot of shower gel for two people - The worst part for us - we were woken up at 06:30 on Friday morning (the night after the wedding) because it turns out it was village bin day, and the bins and bottle banks were right outside the room. I'm 6 months pregnant, and we woke up in a huge panic from the bottles crashing, honestly thinking something had crashed into the room. I can't get across how loud it was - my husband jokes I'd sleep through an air raid, but this was deafening and actually a really distressing start to the day - not the "welcome stay for anyone wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy lives" as they describe it. We were asked at check out how our stay had been, and I mentioned the wifi and bottle banks. The lady said "yes the wifi is terrible isn't it? It's the same for the whole village. Sorry about that." Sort of missed the point that they're advertising having something that doesn't work. With the bottle banks, she said again they know how awful the sound is and that it's actually the same in every room, but it's not their fault it's village bin day. Again missing the point, so I explained we were obviously not blaming them for it being bin day, but if they know the whole building is going to be woken up at 06:30, they should either (i) move the bins so they're not directly under the windows of the rooms, or (ii) if that's not an option, they absolutely need to put a note on the website for anyone staying on a Thursday night to expect it. For some people, it won't be an issue at all, but there will be people (like us) who are looking forward to a nice night away and getting a lie in for once, who would choose to stay elsewhere if they knew. The lady even said the previous owner knew it was so bad they tried to lobby the council to have the collection done later in the day. Between the size, the smell, the non-existent ventilation, the broken windows and blinds, the lack of working wifi, and the Friday morning noise that is so bad the previous owners tried to lobby the council, it is outrageous to charge £100 a night. If we had known the reality of what to expect, there is absolutely no way we'd have stayed. PS - I know the owners can respond to these reviews, so **please** do not reply saying there's nothing you can do about things like bin day, or the wifi - that is so not the point. You just need to be honest about what people will experience if they stay with you. If you lose business because of it, so be it. But if you don't share this info with prospective guests, you're withholding it because you know it might make them go elsewhere. I expect in good faith that you'll update your website accordingly to remove mention of free wifi in all rooms, and to include an advisory note about the reality of Friday mornings.

We stayed here for one night. The staff are lovely and so welcoming. The double room en-suite it was so small and certainly wasn’t for two people. The toilet/shower room was like a box very compact to say the least. No wardrobe a few hangers instead on the wall.We certainly couldn’t have stayed any longer as not much to do in the village and it was raining & a rather uncomfortable room. For what they charge it was overpriced for what you actually got.Toiletries were the smallest bottles for 1 miserly to say the least. Food the nachos were great as was the full English breakfast. The huge letdown was the Thai green curry which was tasteless and had diced chicken pieces thrown on the top of the rice I unfortunately have to say the worst I’ve ever had.I left most of it and my plate was taken away with no questions asked I couldn’t be bothered saying anything but left disappointed.

We had dinner here in October with our daughter and her boyfriend. It was a perfect choice with varied menu, comfortable seating and log fires. Vegetarians are catered for and there is easy wheelchair access. In the summer months there are plenty of outside tables. Well worth a visit for an enjo.yab.e meal with family and friends.

Just had our second Sunday roast here and it was absolutely excellent. The wine list is reasonably priced and the atmosphere in this pub is terrific. The people that run it are so friendly and professional and we will definitely be back!

Beautifully presented pub with separate dining area.Staff were very friendly, food was delicious, room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. There’s no car park so be ready to park a little further down the street when it’s busy. Friday night was also pretty loud as it seems the entire village comes for the evening.A jovial place and we would recommend it.

Attracted here by a Sawday's special offer of 2 lunchtime mains for the price of 1 and glad that we went. Friendly welcome with nicely presented Arkell's beer. The 2 for 1 special menu had only limited choice but we had a hake and a battered haddock, which were good sized portions and freshly cooked. The starters were carrot soup, which was very tasty, and crab rarebit, a somewhat surprising dish which nevertheless did still taste of crab.

This was a surprise birthday dinner for me by my husband, he had seen that it had been honoured with best pub of the year 2019 and thought it would be a great place to eat, What I wasn’t expecting the the surprise to be was that the waitress who took our order forgot to write mine down ! My husbands arrived minus mine, they apologised and was going to leave my husbands dinner to go cold while I waited for my steak to be cooked, I had to ask them to take it back to the kitchen to keep it hot, they eventually came back with both meals, I had asked for my steak medium but it arrived very bloody and rare, I didn’t send it back as I didn’t want to make my husband to wait any longer for his meal, to top it all when we asked for our bill they had added and charged us for a glass of wine we never ordered or had ! I would not recommend this this pub !

We’ve been to this pub at least a dozen times and always had lovely food. Unfortunately this time (on a Monday evening), we didn’t and the food was mediocre and portions small. Worst thing though was the loud and bad language used by a group of customers at the bar. None of the staff attempted to ask them to tone it down even though it was affecting others. Couldn’t wait to leave!

We decided to visit The Masons Arms as we knew we could watch the airshow from there . They were very busy but what a refreshing change to be greeted by very pleasant staff and great service. We noticed that any plates left on the tables were empty and any food coming out looked nice so we decided to have the roast beef. This was the best roast we have had in a pub for a long time perfectly cooked vegatables melt in the mouth beef. The waitress who brought out our food when asked then got us a delicious glass of house red to save us having to go inside. The pub attracts a cross section of people outsiders and locals as its so friendly . They even brought my icecream to the door entrance so I didnt miss the red arrows. Thank you to you all it was a lovely afternoon.

I visited on Monday lunchtime just over 12 months since my last visit and received a genuinely warm welcome and was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant and bar were buzzing with a great ambience. The building is very atmospheric with a beautiful original interior. The menu is extensive and caters for most tastes and is competitively priced. I chose the soup starter followed by the seafood linguine both of which were beautifully presented , flavoursome and generously portioned. A beautiful Cotswold village, adorned with an equally beautiful village pub with equally delicious locally sourced ingredients making for a truly winning recipe and a must visit culinary delight.

We went here for an early dinner. Only negative is finding somewhere to park as there’s no car park. Once we’d done that, we went into the pub and sat at a table by the fire. We both had masons burgers which turned out to be an excellent choice. Very tasty, served with chunky chips which were homemade and delicious, and a small salad. We had a cheesecake for dessert which was ok and sticky toffee pudding which was nice. The service was impeccable and pricing very reasonable. We will definitely return.

The Cotswolds is an area we love and visit reasonably often and have visited a number of pubs here for dinner. There is a temptation, in this area - well quite a lot of areas actually - for pubs to go upmarket and enter the realm of the gastropub with slightly more intricate dishes, more elaborate presentation and higher prices to boot. I am glad to say the Mason's Arms has not been tempted down this route. The menu is comparatively small but consists of good pub favourites. I chose a bavette steak, which was excellent, tasty and juicy but not as tender as a fillet would be, really good as long as you know what to expect. My wife had fish and chips which she pronounced were the best fish and chips she had had in a pub and up to the standard of our friend's fish and chip restaurant in North Yorkshire, which is high praise indeed. We had saved space for a dessert and they were once again excellent and I was happy I had only chosen the small portion of rice pudding.

Just visited, lovely village pub, lovely bar. Shame about the service, how miserable the staff look - how you have to ask multiple times, get charged £4 for a bowl of carrots, £2 for for 2 shortbread biscuits. Lovely food, but still got the bill wrong. We won’t be going back! Shame as we only live down the road!

Our small dining group meet for lunch in a different pub each month. Eleven of us visited on this occasion and we were more than impressed. We were shown to a long table in a private area. Our orders were taken and the food was served by friendly and efficient staff. The menu satisfied all tastes with several vegetarion options and the opportunity to order smaller portions. This meant that several of us chose dessets who might otherwise have missed out on the excellent sticky toffee pudding. The pub has recently received a well deserved award from the Good Pub Guide. Incidentally, the pub is dog friendly so next time we will bring our little Westie.

Decided to return a week later, it was a beautiful spring day couldn't wait for lunch as it was so good before. Decided to order the beef again menu state beef is cooked rare so requested that my portion be more medium to well done, when it arrived it was completely overcooked the vegetables were undercooked the roast potatoes were hard there was very little gravy, the waiter came round as usual ask my wife if all was OK i was under orders not to complain. I didn't eat the beef nothing was said when plates were collected, it seemed there must have been two completely different sheffs, the moral must be don't change the menu, although i would of expected the waitress to ask the question regarding the beef.

Three friends had Saturday lunch at the Mason's Arms. We hadn't booked and arrived at about 13.30. There was a table available, but due to two biggish family groups eating at the same time, we were warned that food might take about half an hour. It didn't! The staff took our order quickly and it came very rapidly. Quality was generally good - excellent fish and chips - but we weren't wholeheartedly impressed with the hummus or the steak. The latter was tough and not a good cut; the former (wonderfully homemade) lacked flavour, apart from garlic. Nonetheless, we would go back, and can't praise the serving staff enough. Nothing was too much trouble.
