Ottima Tearoom. Consiglio.

Driving through Stow on a short break, decided to stop here for afternoon tea as it looked lovely from outside. Shown to a table by one of the many waiting staff but then told we had to order at the counter or use the QR code at the table. Couldn't get the QR code to load the site so went to the counter, where I waited. And waited. And waited. One person taking orders from the queue, all the other staff seemed to be just standing about, a waitress could have taken our order in less than a minute. Eventually left and went elsewhere.

Awful!! Portion sizes were small - when I complained about the lack of Brie on my lunch I was told that was the portion size unless I wanted to pay more (£13 for a roll!!) service was poor, my friend had to ask twice for the dressing that accompanied her meal and had nearly finished when it eventually arrived. I have been going to Mrs Huffkins for over 30 years and was so disappointed to see that it had changed so much - won’t go again

Seated shortly by a polite female waiter, food and drinks ordered by QR code. Took ages to arrive, the "traditional" lemonade was canned sanpellegrino which is not what "traditional" lemonade is especially in England. Politely asked the male waiter about this, he was rude and indifferent giving no customer service experience and just said they only serve one type of lemonade and shook his head when I explained what a traditional lemonade is. Cakes small and average

Disappointing visit today - we were left waiting to be taken to a seat for quite some time, despite multiple free tables within site, and despite telling staff that my mother was feeling unwell and needed to sit down quickly. We then saw multiple people being sent away who arrived after us, despite multiple free tables. We only ordered drinks, which were ok - but the bizarre events before we got a seat put us off the experience.

Popped in for tea and cakes mid morning. Ordered via the app which was fine, if a bit long winded. Came here with my parents for breakfast. (Group of 3) The place was empty and we asked to sit by the window for breakfast so would move a table to make a table for 4. We asked but was told this wouldn’t be possible as they would have to make room if others wanted to come in (in fairness the place did start to fill towards the end of our meal. We didn’t mind this. When it came to the food, for what it is, my God it’s overpriced. We got a couple of the breakfast baps. My poached egg had burst before arriving to the table, and the quality of the ingredients was sub par. The hash brown had clearly been microwaved, not crispy, instead soft. As well as this, the sausage was of poor quality. Bacon was fine, relatively crispy and bun fine - no issues there Overall the food was edible, nothing particularly wrong other than what’s been mentioned but just simply not worth the money.

Much better places available: please avoid the obvious, overpriced and poor customer service of this place. It’s quaint I guess but much better local alternatives. Try “In the Mood” or The New England Coffee House “ or anywhere else. Huffkins: over priced £11.95 for a single breakfast tea and a milkshake. They can’t make scrambled or fried eggs = no proper kitchen or cooks! Worst part for me, there were loads of staff yet people are queueing out of the door! Why? As you enter the cafe up three steps, you are immediately halted by a sign that says “please wait to be seated” - fine. So you stand there and wait and are ignored for minutes (despite all the staff doing very little) they then greet you and ask you if you’d like a table for two (etc) to then be told “take any table” and “then come back and order at the counter” - what is the ###% point of that other than to create queues and make the customer do ALL the work? Add to that the queue also contains people who want take-away, makes the queue longer - especially for those waiting for a table (who are basically then told to find one themselves and then leave it again to order at the counter) total and utter idiocy!! Finally, I then observed the potential customers queuing in the very small area between the outside of the shop, steps, sign and counter - to kindly move out of the way as they block the staff leaving the kitchen to the tables via the counter! Unbelievable and time for a secret shopper visit methinks!! Avoid and go somewhere else Written by a local btw

We called here for lunch when we visited Stow-on-the-Wold on our way home from our holiday. Compared to the tourist trap rip off catering establishments in Stow, Huffkins was okay so we ventured in. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we were cheered up by the delightful, if not a little eccentric, young lady - and I mean that in a nice way - who served us. We both had a beef pasty which were most enjoyable. That was the first pasty I had eaten for about ten years since suffering very badly from food poisoning from a chain pasty restaurant in Cambridge that has since closed down. After being suitably refreshed we had a walk round Stow before continuing our journey home.

We had a warm welcome when we arrived but it went downhill from there. We went up to the counter to order and soon after someone said they would be with us shortly. As we had waited for quite some time without further acknowledgement, I had turned to leave when a team member asked if they could help. It wasn't particularly busy so as our drinks and cakes hadn't arrived after 15 minutes, we asked a team member if they could check if they were on their way. 5 minutes later, they arrived and to be fair, the same team member we checked with earlier did apologise for the delay. The 2 cakes were OK. I then realised that on a nearby table a medium sized dog was sitting on one of the chairs. I actually love dogs but not sure they should be allowed to sit on chairs in a coffee shop. Overall a disappointing visit which was a shame as looked appealing when we walked by.

Overall we had an ok time here. The staff were very friendly and nice and the service was good. However, we felt it was extremely overpriced for what it is. Paying the best part of £10 for a tuna melt with some salad from a bag and some crisps is crazy. One member of our party paid £12.95 for the chicken and barley salad which said on the menu that it came with cucumber, kohlrabi, red onion, tomato and courgette. When it arrived it was one piece of chicken cut up on some lettuce from a bag - there was no courgette, tomato, red onion or kohlrabi and about 4 grains of barley. We would have sent it back if we weren’t so hungry. To charge £12.95 for that is just outrageous. We also were initially seated at a table where the table next to us had their dog on the chair. I don’t have a problem with dogs being on the floor in coffee shops but to have it on the seat next to us was a bit off putting

We booked afternoon tea for 8 at the Stow cafe as part of a hen weekend. It was very busy and the lady greeting us was visibly stressed and quite short with customers who were getting confused about whether or not to seat themselves, as it was taking such a long time for them to be greeted. It wasn’t very welcoming. The afternoon tea itself was really nice and good value. A couple of our party asked for modifications and they were all sorted with ease. Our server was also very friendly which was nice. Unfortunately it went downhill a bit again when we waited 25 minutes for the bill and to pay… I got the impression that the cafe has become far too big, staff clearly couldn’t keep up with the demand and it made the experience not as nice as it could have been. I think if they took less customers it would be far more special.

This was made up of a deep fried chicken escalope of mediocre quality (most likely frozen) in a bun with a side of mixed leaves topped with a french dressing (not even the dressing was Caesar). As an additional side, you get a bagful of salted crisps. It was a decent meal, but nothing to do with a chicken Caesar and grossly overpriced. The service was good and some of the other dishes, like the poached eggs with avocado looked great, so there is hope.

We haven't been to the Cotswolds for 4 years but prior to that visited every year. Huffkins used to be a lovely spot to eat but alas no more. After being ignored as we loitered in the doorway waiting to be shown to a table a man came out from behind the counter and grudgingly told us we could sit anywhere and we could order and pay with a QR code at the table or order and pay at the counter, card only. Last time I checked cash was still legal tender. The menu has been reduced with no more full English breakfast. The food was OK and the girls who delivered the food were very friendly. However for the price paid the food wasn't that good and lack of service and no cash payment has lost them my custom. There are lots of other places to eat in Stow where service is still given at the table and cash is accepted and they'll be getting my custom in future.

Oh, what an exquisite dining experience one must endure at this culinary catastrophe. The charming waitstaff, reminiscent of misplaced actors in a low-budget play, leave an indelible mark on one's appetite. The pièce de résistance, a toastie with all the allure of a soggy newspaper, competes valiantly for the title of Cotswolds' worst culinary creation. My partner and I were regaled with the privilege of partaking in this culinary travesty for the awful sum of £9.25 – then again a small price to pay for the profound disappointment that ensued. Bruern Farm Shop, with its commendable £7 toastie, stands as a beacon of culinary excellence in comparison. The plate presented to me lacked character to the point of resembling a damp rag, while the water in my glass showcased more flavor than the entire ordeal. Oh, and let's not forget the charming addition of stale crisps, reminiscent of relics excavated from an ancient shoebox. How utterly splendid! It's a testament to Huffkins' commitment to providing patrons with an authentic experience – an experience, I assure you, that shall remain a singular occurrence in my gastronomic adventures across my beloved Cotswolds. One might say it's the tackiest theatrical performance I've witnessed, with the added misfortune of laughably subpar food. Farewell, Huffkins, for this shall be the first and last tango our taste buds engage in within your lackluster establishment. Cheers to the memories, or lack thereof.

I thought they were having a laugh when the waitress said £33. No wonder you ask people to pay before they have the food, it's probably because to many people would refuse to pay the full amount if you did it afterwards. If you want to charge prices like that you seriously need to up your game, at the moment you are not anywhere near that standard. A sunny mid-November day saw us ‘take a spin’ up into the Cotswolds, with no particular plan other than to be out whilst the weather was good. We had stopped for a coffee and a bit of retail therapy enroute. We arrived here in Stow just before 13:30; with lunch a priority. We parked-up we strolled into the town centre, where several eateries vied for our custom, and we chose this busy café. As we queued to be seated we were prepared to be told that there was no room, but the café is quite large, so we were able to get one of the two tables that were still available. The menus were already on the table, and the waiter, who had showed us you our table, explained that we should visit the counter and place our order and pay. The order would then be brought to our table. Tip: take note of your table number before going to the counter. We only wanted a snack, so we both studied the lunch menu, and the ‘Melts and Toasties’ section. The ‘Country Ham and Cheddar Toastie’, with dry-cured Chase Farm ham and Cheddar cheese, on toasted mashed granary bread appealed. I went to the counter ordered a shared pot of breakfast tea, and also a pot of chutney for an extra £1 (not really enough for two). As we waited we looked-around and saw that that Christmas decorations in place (with just under 6 weeks to go). The café was pleasant and clean and the service was good, as our food and drinks arrived promptly. The tea was in a very large pot and we had file decently-sized cups of really good tea between us. The toasties looked good and were excellent with the little pot of what was almost certainly the splendid ‘Cherry Tree Kashmiri Chutney’. The small side salad and crisps were good enhancements. The meal suited; being a perfect size for a snack and with great ingredients, and served hot.

Very poor service. Staff sullen and unhelpful. Ordered cream teas and the tea was cold by the time the scones finally arrived. Maybe we were unlucky?

I visited with my husband, 7 month old grandson and 96 year old father. The staff could not have been more helpful, and so cheery and welcoming. They helped us to a lovely area where there was room for the buggy and kept checking we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, and a box provided for my father so he could take some of his sandwiches home. We felt so welcome. Thank you to the wonderfully attentive staff there. We will be back.

I also feel sad to write a negative review for Huffkins as we have so many happy memories of meeting friends and family for delicious cafe lunches. This time we were very disappointed in the meagre fillings of the toasties we ordered. They had an overall taste of dry bread. The lettuce was shrivelling and had pink edges. It really should not have been served and for meals of between £10 and £14 we do expect better. What are you going to do to get back on track? That is my question to Huffkins, who I have written to directly.

I don't feel comfortable writing a poor review as I would not be best pleased to receive one myself. However, on very rare occasions I do feel compelled to write one as in this case with our recent visit. Without going into too much detail, the food counter looks very tired and unappetising, the general decor, furnishings, and toilets all look extremely tired. The cakes, coffee and crockery was all quite underwhelming, more akin to a rough industrial estate cafe. All quite disappointing. Surely, we are not the only ones to have noticed the short-comings here! Such a shame as here you have the perfect location, space, and foot-fall to have an absolutely wonderful establishment here. It need not cost the earth to get this place up to scratch. A thorough review from an independent advisor would be money well spent! This will surely come as a great disappointment to you, however we hope you take it with good intent and elevate this place back to its former glory.

Not very nice. I asked for iced lattes and got them hot. I told him I asked for iced lattes and he judt said: you didn’t ask for them to be iced. If a costumer told you, you got the order wrong - you better not tell them that they didn’t order for what they actually ordered 🤦🏽‍♀️

Immediately put off by untidiness and lack of cleanliness. Floors dirty, with bits of food and tissues. Stairway to toilets with dirty tissue on some of the steps. Generally felt rough around the edges. I abstained from eating or drinking anything, but ordered eclair for my young daughter, only to avoid upsetting her as she had built herself up to having a cake.

Went in for a takeaway cappuccino. Cost nearly £4, but was given half a cup with the other half foam. Literally about 4 mouthfuls. Asked politely if it could be topped up, and the cup was taken out of my hand without a word of apology, and a tiny bit added. There are much better places in Stow for a fuller takeaway coffee at a lower cost with a friendly service!

Very pricey and we had very bad service. We sat outside and had to wait quite a while for someone to take our order of 2 hot drinks and 2 cakes. We waited about 15 to 20 minutes for the d rinks to come and were told the cakes would be with us soon. Why not bring them together?!! We then drank our tea/coffee and still no cakes 10-15 minutes later. I went to pay and asked for a refund on the cakes as we hadn't had them. They gave a refund, an apology and the cakes we'd ordered, which we ate later. They were mediocre to say the least. Overall a very disappointing visit, after a very pleasant one 6 years ago.

This tea room is always busy. There are plenty of tables so waiting isn't long. The tea and coffee was hot and the scones were quite nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
