I simply can't recommend this place highly enough. Drew and Jason made us feel so welcome, like old friends on our first visit, and the food was fantastic. We had Sunday lunch there on the first day of our week's holiday and went back twice more! Best burger and best toad-in-the hole we've ever had. Better priced than most of the surrounding pubs. Dogs not just welcome but loved. Kids can have anything on the menu in a smaller portion which is really rare and gave my 6 year old a chance to try new foods that you just don't see on kids menus and I've never seen her eat so much! Credit to the chef, honestly superb fare. Wish it was our local.

Visited on a Monday evening when the pub kitchen was closed. There is a Pizza van serving locals by the pub's invitation on Monday and Tuesday evenings. These are run into the pub once ordered if you are drinking in the pub. There is a small range of pizzas available from the basic Margherita upto the Djuna (spicy pork sausage). I had this and it was nice and spicy with tender broccoli as an additional topping. I would say it was well priced at £12 - £14 for a 10" pizza. Takeaway prices for a pub meal. The pub was well lit and busy for a Monday night, i was there at 7:30pm and most of the tables occupied, but by 9pm the place had emptied. Three cask beers were on offer on arrival, shortly all but one had been exhausted, not including their keg offerings. Well priced beer for the area and local too, Hook Norton ales. The Landlord was welcoming and cheerful, and had been very busy at the weekend he told me, hence the beers finishing.

Visited for Sunday lunch, sat in the bar as restaurant was full, very comfortable, friendly bar staff, full menu but we stuck to beef and pork roast dinners, large portions, v tasty but served in bowls (difficult to cut the meat in a bowl!) and awash with gravy. Served with excellent Hooky beer. Will revisit but with a request for a plate and gravy in a jug

Excellent roasts with all individual ingredients prepared excellently and very good service from the young lady working on the day.

Lovely spot with a nice atmosphere. Amazing food and by far the best fish and chips I have ever had! Our waiter told us it was fresh from the market that morning too. The service was impeccable and our lovely waiter made sure we had everything we needed.

Would highly recommend to families visiting the area. Delicious food, generous portions and easy kid options (ask Staff and they will work with you). Staff are so accommodating for families, grabbing highchairs etc. Meat and veg options are local suppliers and you can tell the produce is fresh. Would suggest to book!

We were warmly welcomed and spoilt for choice on the menu. Friendly service and efficient even though it was busy. Excellent food. Delighted to have this on our doorstep and great to see many locals enjoying this dining pub.

Lovely atmosphere, great service and delicious food (massive portions!)

Had a very last-minute decision to call in here last weekend. Well, what can I say. What a find. The staff were kind and inviting and well organised. They accommodated 7 of us (4 adults and 3 children). They moved furniture for us, and even though we didn't have a booking, they made sure they checked with their kitchen staff before guaranteeing us a table. I thought this showed excellent organisation. We all had a roast dinner. The food was excellent quality and tasted so good. We had great portion sizes. Highly recommend. Even though I'm not local, I'd look to go here again if I return to the area.

We visited the Great Western on a Sunday evening. We hadn’t booked a table but went in on the off chance we would get a table. It was quite quiet which we put down to the fact that there had been a lot of snow that day. The service was fantastic and the food excellent. Myself and my partner really enjoyed our experience here and the person serving us that evening (my guess he was the owner) was extremely friendly and was very attentive. Would highly recommend a visit for anyone in the area.

We had meals here on 3 occasions recently. The food and service was excellent. The Sunday Roast was outstanding. A great variety of drinks available at the bar. A warm and cosy pub!

Having read the reviews, we thought this would be an excellent spot for dinner. Within walking distance of our holiday cottage and dog friendly, it was a win win for us! The food was outstanding, as was the service. We had squid and the soup to start with, both were lovely. Next we had the seabass and pork belly, both were a taste sensation, generous portions, and beautifully presented. We managed to share the chocolate cake dessert which was yum. The staff are very welcoming and have managed to be both attentive but not instrusive. The time between courses was perfect, and even though we were the last remaining customers in the restaurant side, we were not rushed out. I would highly recommend The Great Western Arms. As my husband said 'it was the best meal we had eaten in a good while', along with friendly staff, and reasonably priced food, what more could you wish for!

A great pub, with really friendly staff. We went in a few times during the week we were on holiday for a couple of drinks and then went in for a meal. The staff are very friendly can't do enough for you and make the visit really enjoyable. The food was excellent and top quality 👌. We will definitely be coming back. And thanks to the staff for sorting out a box so we could take a burger back for our daughter 👍👍

The staff at The Great Western Arms were very welcoming and accommodating, always greeting us with polite smiles. The atmosphere was lovely, with a warm and cozy fireplace that added to the charm. The food was delicious, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Na wstępie wspomnę że lokal otwarty jest w określonych dniach tygodni i godzinach, więc początkowo może mylić i sprawiać wrażenie zamkniętego. Jednak warto go odwiedzić, po pierwsze żeby poczuć klimat Anglii, moje pierwsze wrażenie zaskakujące ze względu na fakt że lokal był cały wypełniony i to zarówno pary jak i rodziny, a także wiele osób starszych. Wszyscy aby dobrze zjeść i spędzić miło czas. Chętnie wracałem do lokalu ze względu na pyszne jedzenie oraz fakt że lokal prowadzą moi rodacy - pozdrawiam :) No ale najważniejsze, jedzenie było wyśmienite, duże porcje, pyszne i ładnie podane. Szkoda że nie zdążyłem podczas pobytu skosztować każdej z pozycji z menu. Polecam też lokalne piwa. Dodatkowo atmosfera w lokalu jest o tyle miła ze względu na psy które lubią tu przychodzić ze swoimi właścicielami.

we visit Blockley each year,and thought we would give the food a try, firstly we have found since Covid many quality restaurants pub grub establishments have closed down and now this void has been filled with those who think they can cook!! the presentation of the food you could do better at home ordered a king prawn cocktail on sourdough bread out came shrimp on toasted brown bread, batter on fish well overcooked i ordered gammon with chips and egg, i received a plate with various bits of small and medium pieces of gammon and 2 well cooked eggs with over done chips really poor . This is so sad as the surroundings are lovely nice atmosphere but unfortunately the current renters are offering below par food really frustrating that we are now paying way too much for very basic and bought in food options

First of all, let me mention that the place is open on specific days of the week and hours, so at first it may be confusing and give the impression of being closed. However, it is worth visiting it, first of all, to feel the atmosphere of England, my first impression was surprising due to the fact that the place was full of both couples and families, as well as many elderly people. Everyone to eat well and have a nice time. I was happy to come back to the place because of the delicious food and the fact that the place is run by my compatriots - best regards :) But most importantly, the food was delicious, large portions, delicious and nicely presented. It's a pity that I didn't have time to try every item on the menu during my stay. I also recommend local beers. Additionally, the atmosphere in the place is so nice because of the dogs who like to come here with their owners.

Website is outdated. 2 course lunch for £10 no longer available. What is available is over-priced. Nice, sun trap terrace at the back If you go the Cotswold Pale Ale is fab.

Even better than I remembered. Perfectly situated in a lovely village in the Cotswolds. Food was excellent, also booked in for the Sunday Roast as well. Make a reservation! You won’t be disappointed!

Beautiful quiet pub with a great selection of drinks and food. Sunday lunch was lovely, everything was cooked to perfection. Really accommodating came in 15 mins after the kitchen shut and they were happy to serve us

Just went to bar for two drinks. Barman poured the drinks then went off to deal with another couple who arrived after me. When he came back I was still waiting with my two drinks and asked if I could pay. He seemed irritated that I wanted to pay though it only took about twenty seconds. Bizarre.

We had an absolutely delicious Sunday lunch here after a long walk. The team were very accommodating of the needs of some of our party, and the roast was absolutely delicious (in particular the gravy and Yorkshire puddings) with a great selection of food on the menu. Overall a fantastic experience, would strongly recommend for everyone visiting the area!

we took my elderly mother to dinner at the Great Western this eve - superb food, top class no doubt. The presentation & quality of the food was A1 - highly recommended. We will return on our next visit to this beautiful county. Thankyou

The advertised opening times on google are incorrect. We walked over from Moreton today, lovely walk and arrived just before 3pm gagging for a pint…… To find a sign on the door saying “Open at 5pm”. Saved by the village shop who also sell beer!

To begin with, the service is impeccable and very attentive and friendly. The local beers are delicious and the food very well made and quality, made with enough love. The atmosphere is quite pleasant, local with few frills and quite minimalistic and with certain decorative elements that seem taken from any decoration store. Really a highly recommended pub for dinner and a few beers. We liked it a lot.

Loved it. Stopped for a quick bite to eat on route home. Loved the friendly welcome and the food. Will be our new stop off to break to the trip home. Delightful traditional pub that had been sympathetically updated.

As we were staying in the village me and the wife went in for a quick beer .. the bar man was fantastic . So decided to have something to eat. .. we stayed in the bar as the atmosphere was great . We ended up having two fantastic meals . Very well priced . I had the fish and chips. And the wife had toad in the hole ... Her Yorkshire puddings was the size of the plate fantastic value ... We ended up staying for over 3 hrs considering we were only popping. The staff were great very friendly. We left very happy full and to be honest a bit tipsy .. 10/10.

Excellent food with really friendly staff. We were staying locally over the weekend and came on Friday for dinner. They were short staffed and quite busy in the bar but still provided excellent service. Had the pulled pork burger and would highly recommend! Also dog friendly in the bar area 🐾

We had a fantastic experience here during our stay in Blockley. The food and service were both excellent, and Adam went over and above to make sure we had a great evening enjoying our Christmas dinner (the bon bons were a very cute touch). Friendly and welcoming, good village pub. Good value on the set menus, food is good pub level. But it's a really nice place to go and sit and enjoy after a walk. Great in the winter and summer. Maybe could do with just one alcohol free beer.

Brilliant place to eat. 6 of us had dinner. Staff really friendly and helpful. Had three of the menu options. All excellent. Reasonable prices and good value for money. One of our party was disabled. Were able to leave small scooter in porch. Does have stairs down to toilets but staff kindly offered help.

Just spent 6 nights in the lovely village of Blockley with my wife and 8 year son. We visited The Great Western every night whether it be for drinks or dinner. What a place! We felt like locals from our first visit. Great pub and food. Adam and Jack work their socks off, top lads and by the end of our stay we were sad to say goodbye. Will definitely be back. Brilliant food and friendly staff and very helpful

We spent a week in Blockley in a lovely cottage and often popped into this wonderful pub for drinks or a meal. The Sunday roast is out of this world. The Yorkshire puddings are absolute perfection. We had another evening of pub grub here during our stay and it was another outstanding meal. Adam and the team are always so warm and welcoming. highly recommend this restaurant during your stay in the Cotswolds

The best meal deal in the Cotswolds is on offer at the moment. The fixed price menu here is 2 courses for £10. I have had a delicious pulled pork salad and a lovely sausage and mash. Both dishes were high quality - the addition of pickled vegetable slaw in the pp salad was great and the sausages came with roasted vegetables, mashed potato and a lovely gravy. £10 in a lovely village in the Cotswolds- fantastic value.

Well where to start! From entrance to exit our experience at the GWA was exquisite! Awesome staff Adam and Jake.. Service was excellent, warm, friendly, and a great sense of humour. Food was totally delicious. Nothing was a chore for them. We were within 15 minutes walking distance staying at the Robins Nest. Set in a beautiful village of Blockley. The garden was fab as was the weather for October. Friday, Saturday dinners were lush. Sunday roast was yummy too. The ambience of the pub was superb and very welcoming. Fantastic food! Excellent value lunch two courses for £10 faultless quality. I had the delicious pumpkin and carrot soup, followed by tagline. Very tasty, and incredible value! The service was second to none very welcome bar man. Highly recommended and would definitely come again!

After many visits to this special Pub, we booked for Sunday lunch. As before, we were allowed to park our large motorhome in the car park, whilst we had lunch and then a walk in the village - great co-operation! The meal was our best yet - fine dining indeed! Our host, Adam, engaged very well with us and all of his many clients. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and went about our village walk happy, well sated and amazed at Blockley's no1 venue. You shouldn't visit this lovely Cotswold village without sharing in the delights of GWA. Five stars isn't enough.

My best friend and I were in Blockley for a full week on a walking holiday and staying at a house in town. We decided to make The Great Western Arms "our" pub for our stay. Often when you walk into a pub in a small village, you don't feel very welcome. The GWA was completely the opposite. From the time we walked in Adam, and the rest of the staff, made us feel right at home. The service was excellent and their food was also quite excellent - we had their fish and chips more than once! Dogs are very welcome here and it was always fun to meet them and their owners. The have lots of local options for beer and cider and their cocktails are made with ingredients from local distilleries. I can highly recommend their gin and tonic made with gin from the Cotswolds Distillery. We met many lovely people on our daily stop-in for a beer or for dinner - it's a friendly place that I HIGHLY recommend if you are staying in or passing through beautiful Blockley.

Het eten was op zich oké maar de bediening liet veel te wensen over. Dit terwijl we een tafel gereserveerd hadden en ze dus van onze komst op de hoogte waren. Het duurde heel erg lang voordat we onze gerechten kregen en de bediening kwam meerdere keren checken wat we doorgegeven hadden. De bediening kon steeds niet onthouden wat we besteld hadden. Heel jammer want dat beïnvloedt negatief hoe je de avond ervaart.

This is one of the best restaurants to frequent in the area. The food is excellent and the service to match it. We have been eating here frequently when we visit because of the food quality, menu rotation, preparation and overall consistency. The lamb, fish and chips, burgers and pulled pork are all amazing. Our family members often join us when they are in the area and it is our go to location. The Sunday roast is the best around. For the prices, you can't find better for price and quality. Simply put, go here. You won't be dissatisfied.

Really fun for groups (for example, celebrating birthdays) and also a warm atmosphere for couples. The mussels as a main were delicious. I was impressed by the size of the half portion (and low cost). For the fish and chips, the fish needed more seasoning. It was a decently sized piece of fish. The beef was enjoyed along with the generous serving of nicely cooked veges. Recommend the hot chips! The crispy pork starter was nourishing. The crème brûlée with the shortbread was to die for. The sticky toffee pudding was enjoyed too. A pot of peppermint tea was a welcome round off to the evening. The Pimms needed less ice please (the strawberries on the glass rim were excellent). Thank you une millefois to Adam and team for caring service and for the chef for hard work. We would like to return and the tables on the deck look inviting in the peace of the countryside.

We had a fantastic experience here celebrating two 70th birthdays. Despite being very busy staff went out of their way to make it a special night. Food was delicious, we particularly rated the pork starter. Would definitely visit again.

Staying in a holiday let in Blockley and this was recommended. Great welcome, dogs allowed in the bar, fresh water provided. Staff are so welcoming. Food is so tasty and well presented. Extremely high standard- nothing was too much trouble for any of the team...

We had dinner once on the restaurant side, and once on the pub side. Menu is same for both. Decent wine selection. Good ale. Closed for dinner Mondays and Tuesdays. Food was very good, our entire family was happy with meals. Both pub and restaurant...

Brilliant experience, food outstanding

Food was nice enough. Pub was renovated and had zero atmosphere. Felt a bit lile walking into the slaughtered lamb.

We didn't eat here hence I can't rate it fully..but all was good. A decent local pub to relax at with the garden, bar and restaurant areas all providing nice surroundings. In the evening, it's quite intimate with candles and soft lighting. The Great Western has a decent range of beers and average prices for the area.

Delicious food, friendly staff and quick service. We eyed up the food on other peoples tables and it all looked lovely. We settled on the duck and beef short rib - absolutely delicious! The desserts were also gorgeous. We went here as part of a short break in the Cotswolds and would highly recommend to anyone doing the same - if we lived locally it would be a regular place for us.
