Village Grill is hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! From the moment you step in, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for an exceptional meal.
The food is simply perfection—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to absolute precision. Every bite bursts with authentic taste, and the ingredients are clearly top quality. Whether it’s their grilled specialties or signature dishes, you can tell a lot of passion goes into every plate. I love this place PLEASE COME HERE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Having been to Thailand many times and travelled around the whole country, I know good Thai food. This restaurant has new owners and I can honestly say that this is the most delicious and authentic Thai food I have eaten outside of Thailand. It's very reasonably priced and the staff (Adam and Chef Mo) are very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be returning.
A really good cafe, with an extensive and well priced menu. Set away from the road but with plenty of space and well worth a visit. Excellent service personified by the friendly and efficient Kat.
Fantastic place for brunch. The brunch wrap, Biscoff pancakes, sunrise smoothie, and hazelnut pain au chocolat are all delicious. Friendly place, helpful staff, and great location right on the quay. We came here after a long rainy run and it was just the ticket!

Lovely meal with great service. Recommend the chateaubriand if you’re going when it’s on offer. Melt in the mouth. Monkfish bites were delicate and flaky, and the meaty house red Italian Syrah was incredible value.
This review is about the rooms.
A perfect base in St Ives with an unforgettable host.
Host St Ives was the ideal base for exploring this stunning part of Cornwall. Rassie is an exceptional host—helpful, genuinely friendly, and full of great local tips. His warm South African accent alone could brighten your day, and honestly, I’d happily grab a pint with him anytime. He even inspired us to go for a sunrise swim in the sea—an unforgettable experience!
The accommodation itself is beautifully designed, with thoughtful details in every corner. The interior is stylish, the lighting can be adjusted with different ambient scenes, and even the shower gel smells like gorse—the iconic yellow flowers you see everywhere around here.
As tempting as it is to just relax in the room, be sure to get out and explore. There’s so much to do in and around St Ives: hike to Zennor or even Gurnard’s Head, take a boat trip, visit beaches, explore the chapel, discover great restaurants, check out 3 Mile Beach, or catch a film in the small cinema just around the corner.
Highly recommended—we’ll be back!
OK. I'm really fussy with food. Last night as 8 of us cramped in here, it was so worth the wait. Num tuck (or how ever you spell it). Was the best beef I had ever had and the taste was out of this world. I love Thai, it's up there you know. But everything was done to perfection. I will be coming back, again and again and again !!!!
A lovely little gem of a pub in the picturesque village of Thoverton.
Mandy and Steve went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. They are so welcoming and friendly 😊
Our room was immaculately clean thanks to Clare.
Breakfast was lovely, well cooked substantial and very reasonably priced.
You are made to feel one of the family here with everyone making time for a chat.
Exceptional value for money and we would not hesitate to return or recommend to others if they were in the area.
Thank you for your hospitality and all the very best in your future ventures.
My navy mate and me came for a sports day out watching rugby and VILLA V SPURS in the cup . Wonderful atmosphere great display of cask ale. We were made very welcome and the only downside was NO Food due to the size of the bar lounge area. It's a great pub and shall come again when next in the area. WELL DONE to a lovely lady with long blond haie
Following the reviews on here & having just moved down to Calstock nearby three days before, we booked a table of six - one a birthday & three visitors down from Yorkshire.
We even went over the evening before to check it out & decided it looked ideal - there was a fresh meat stand in one corner & lovely strains of presumably a local choir practicing folk songs wafting down from upstairs, great beer & we were shown the table we would have - all good.
Turned up next night &, though the same barman was busy, nodded us through to our table & settled in. Just a few people drinking at the bar & no one eating at that stage. Got drinks in & looked at the menus. And then we waited, & waited. Two lovely young girls serving but in the end , after 15minutes we had to make a point of calling out to one to try & place our order. In the meantime the barman had come out to chat to a couple who had sat down to eat but did not come over to us.
We were informed by the girl that we could not place an order yet as the kitchen had a large party to cook for upstairs & we’d have to wait till they were all done. Surprised, we enquired how long that would be. After checking, we were told half an hour…
We were distinctly not impressed with this as at no point had we been warned that this might happen so after a further 15 minutes & drinks finished, we decided to cut our losses & leave.
The large barman, who was the only person seemingly in charge, at no stage came over although he was obviously aware of our plight. Miraculously, when we got up to leave he disappeared completely & one of the young ladies was left to see us out. We expressed our complete disappointment with the whole situation & left. We felt extremely sorry that the girl had been left to carry the can & swore never to bother coming back.,
I cannot believe this is the same place as in the other reviews - apart from the lovely pub & excellent beer. A total disappointment.
We ended up having an excellent Indian meal in Callington which thankfully salvaged the evening.
My daughter took me to the Shaft for a meal on my birthday, the staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for us , I ordered the homemade braised pork pie with mash and green veg,it was the best pie I have had for ages,my daughter and grandson had a pizza,it was big and plenty for them too eat,the loaded fries were lovely and cheesy, the whole meal was really delicious and I would highly recommend the Shaft inn to anyone who loves good food and value for money, I will be back, the staff and owner were really friendly and made my birthday special, they eve gave me a card, thank you for making my day complete
