Based on the reviews, we were looking forward to a good meal at the White Hart and were very disappointed. First we were told that our order could not be taken as the kitchen was backed up, even though we had a reservation. When we asked for the wine list we were told there was a choice of red or white (I appreciate that the pub is famous for it's beer but would have expected some selection of wine). When the food did come we complained that the prawns in the prawn cocktail appeared raw, being grey in colour and strong tasting. They were returned to the kitchen and we were told that the Chef said they were definitely not raw and if we didn't want them we would be charged for them anyway. Not a great start! The main dishes were disappointing and lacking flavour. Perhaps we had a bad night as all the recent reviews were so good, but I would certainly not return.

Just visited this pub after reading reviews. Only realised on arrival it was "manic Monday"" and all meals on the admittedly small menu were just£5!! Yes a FIVER!! Expecting small portions we were astounded to be presented with totally adequate meals. Fish and chips with lovely crunchy batter and fabulous chips, ham egg and chips with TWO eggs and tender ham sliced 1/4 inch thick, all day breakfast filling the plate all served by pleasant staff. We are only in Cornwall on holiday but highly recommend anyone to visit this wonderful old fashioned pub. Keep up the good work White Hart.

Visited here a few years ago and since is under new management/new chef. Booked a table and found it quite busy with people eating or the locals enjoying a drink. A central hub within the community and lovely to see the pub being used by the locals. The menu has a good selection along with a specials board, enough options to cater for all tastes. Staff friendly and helpful. The food is simply delicious, good portion sizes and everything cooked to perfection. Could not fault anything and the fish was excellent. Prices are good and with the quality of produce, there shouldn't be any complaints. The views are stunning, delicious food, good ales, visit, you shouldn't be disappointed.

This is one of our favourite local pubs for a drink - decent ales on tap, a friendly atmosphere, and stunning views over the Tamar Valley. We've been here 3 times to eat. Firstly for Sunday lunch. Huge portions (even a small portion), generally good food though not a fan of their giant roast potatoes. Good service. Weekday lunches... We love the food, but both times we were overcharged. The first time, I brought it to the barman's attention and he said the price was correct. It was only when I pushed for a receipt and a copy of the menu that he accepted the issue and said there was a mistake on the menu, and he refunded the extra. The second time it happened we were in a rush and I didn't realise until after we had left. I don't know if it's an issue with their till or menu (there was a couple of months between our visits so it wasn't rectified), or whether they're adding a service charge. Either way, it has left a slightly uncomfortable feeling, even though it feels petty over a matter of a few quid. We'd go there again (and have been in since for drinks), but with a close eye on the final bill. Shame, as we love the place and it's definitely worth a visit.

Whilst holidaying in Cornwall we had the good fortune to go to the white hart pub. Wednesday 28th September. Didnt book, just walked in on the off chance. We couldn't believe how busy it was for a mid week. I asked the waitress if they where doing food? She told me that the chef had called in sick and she would ask the landlady who was cooking if she could. Luckily she came back and said yes."Its going to be a bit of a wait but yes." I come from a little village in East Sussex called Rotherfield, when i was young the local pub, The George was the focal point of the village. Im not kidding, it was like being back there in The White Hart. The landlord Ian was so friendly, we where chatting with the locals like we where one of them. The food was delicious, a log fire blasting. All I can say is I wish I lived there!! It's like stepping back in time where people go out and socialise. Well done Ian and Katy you've cracked it. All the best Dave the plasterer.

Where do we begin with our praise for what Ian, Katy & their staff are doing with this beautiful, rural pub. Having found ourselves staying in Chilsworthy by accident it ended up being the best thing that had happened. Situated in the heart of the village, what these fantastic people are doing for their community deserves more acclaim than I can write here. We turned up with our son, Josh... his girlfriend Ella... our two dogs, and didn't know a soul. We were welcomed with open arms and chatted to as if we'd been locals for years. Ian & Katy are your perfect hosts, and despite being hit with every hurdle possible during the last few years, have 100% put their lives up for their village. The pup is beautiful, the views stunning, atmosphere incredible.... and after one week we leave with the hosts now friends. A must visit to anyone coming down this way. You will not be disappointed. Booked before we went as we were a group of 8 including 2 children. As it was Sunday we had mainly Sunday roasts, a couple had the vegetarian pie, the children had pizza and a small roast. The portions were huge, the vegetables kept coming and coming. You definitely wouldn't go home hungry after eating, it was delicious. Its a bit of the beaten track down some narrow lanes but it's well worth the drive for the views while you eat. We'll definitely visit again if we are in the area.

As a couple, we booked a meal at The White Hart after recently purchasing a holiday lodge at the nearby Honicombe Manor Park in St Ann’s Chapel. On arrival, with our nuts spaniel, we found the front door and were welcomed with warm theoretical arms. Following covid safety guidelines etc, we tapped in and were shown to our table. A cosy 2 seater at the back in the corner- just perfect. We tucked the dog away for a snooze and ordered. Great selections of ales and gins, which arrived quickly. The menu sounded so tasty that we took our time ordering, and went for a starter each of the local River Fowey mussels and the bruschetta. The mussels were to die for. Simply the freshest and tastiest mussels we’ve had- they are a must!! Bruschetta was flavoursome, and just what I needed. Mains we had the ribeye steak, which was cooked to perfection and the Spinach pie. All of which, tasted unreal. It was genuinely one of the tastiest pub meals we’ve had. Whoever the chef was, hats off to them. Definitely not your standard pub grub at all, another level. The atmosphere was friendly, welcoming and both the gent & lady (sorry for the lack of names!) were lovely. Harry our pooch wasn’t just tolerated either, but welcomed as much as we were. With our new holiday home, we’ll be recommending our guests to head out to the White Hart and will be regulars for sure on our visits. It was dark, but the tiered garden at the back looked exciting, so we’ll be wandering over in the Summer for that too! Thanks for a lovely evening, and keep up the great work. Covid or no covid- this is the place to be.

We booked this pub for lunch with friends as a pre Christmas catch up. We saw it featured in the Saving pubs programme and we needed to find somewhere half way as a rendezvous. This seemed like a good bet and we are keen to support local businesses. The pub is pretty much in the middle of no where. Lovely views although the weather wasn't particularly kind on the day. Warm friendly welcome and for a Wednesday lunch time was quite busy. It's quite a traditional, rustic looking pub. Drinks were served promptly. Menu quite extensive with a definite home style to it. We ordered the venison chilli, chicken curry and beef pie. There was quite a long wait for the food to come but we had plenty to chat about so that was not an issue for us. We all felt the food was good. Very genius portions and nicely cooked. My beef pie was out of this world, such tender meat, great mash, veg a touch overcooked for me but all in all we were impressed. We have previously had an amazing Sunday lunch at the White Hart which is local to us, before the current COVID restrictions and our Friday night take away from them did not disappoint! My wife had the Hungarian goulash with potatoes au gratin and I had a steak, mushroom and pepper stroganoff with saffron rice. I also brought a 4 pint flagon to be filled with one of the pub’s ales. My stroganoff was deliciously creamy with nicely cooked peppers and generous pieces of steak. The rice was fluffy and complemented the meal beautifully. The goulash came with some amazing huge but light dumplings like fantastic islands in the goulash which had a real depth of flavour. The publicans are doing their best in these difficult times for the hospitality industry and are exceeding expectations with their home cooked menu. The only downside was that due to the current restrictions we could it admire the beautiful Tamar valley views form the pub while we are. I look forward to returning when they open properly again as with such dedication, the future can only be bright for Amy and the team. Well done! Incidentally, their experiences leading up to and into the pandemic were also featured in the recent BBC series ‘Tom Kerridge - Saving Britain’s Pubs’.

Truly excellent service, great wine and beer (the Mayflower is wonderfully “hoppy”), and the food is all that great pub food should be. I can recommend the roast lamb, and my wife really enjoyed the haggis-stuffed chicken. Sadly, the new Lockdown has just been announced but, when it’s all over, try to visit this pub - you’ll not regret it.

We visited the pub three times during our stay at The Linney late September. We actually cancelled pre holiday restaurant bookings to support the local, as we were so impressed. The owners have obviously worked so very hard to promote their pub , supporting the local community, providing a very welcoming pub even during these testing times, and sourcing great food and a superb chef. We could not fault the food, or indeed anything. Keep up the fab work!

Stayed here as a Brit Stop overnight. The landlord could not have been more helpful getting us parked up with an electric hook up. Very friendly welcome which carried on into everything that they did in the evening. The food was fantastic. Really varied and tasty menu by a chef who has been there since August. Reasonable prices. Will be eating here again when we come down again.Just a lovely place tucked off beaten track.

The White Hart is such an amazing pub. As soon as you enter the pub you feel welcome. You are greeted with very friendly staff and an amazing atmosphere. Even during these difficult times the Landlady and Landlord, Amy and Ian have created an excellent place to eat and drink. A good selection of real ales and lagers plus a very good food menu, all served to a great standatd. No wonder the pub has won Cornwall CAMERA pub of the year two years running, 2019 / 2020.Well done to the The White Hart Team for a wonderful visit. Highly recommended.

We've visited this pub twice in the last month and on both occasions had excellent food and service, the range of real ales is well kept and the staff are only too happy to explain its origins. Given our visit was during the Covid 19 restrictions we felt that the staff were doing everything they could to keep us safe while maintaining a good atmosphere. Many thanks for two excellent visits.

From the moment the pub comes into view you know it’s going to be good. View being the apt word, we were lucky enough to visit while we still had the daylight. Stunning views overlooking for miles into the countryside. Once inside I found myself in a very well laid out and cosy pub. Now sat down I realised how busy you guys were and for good reason. There’s a great atmosphere, superb drinks and food. But most of all me and my family commented on that it was all seemingly being managed by one lady who was so good at her job I wish I could pay her wages in my local back home! Absolute diamond woman. Food wise I choose the soup for starter which happened to be tomato and crab bisk that day. Overall it was good and I mean no offence but the tomato portion of the soup tasted a little bit like shop brought. The other stater I saw was the muscles which tasted great and looked fresh. For mains it was a tough choice, so many options but in the end I had the fish and chips. (The fish being Hake if memory serves) this dish was amazing, great great great food. I especially appreciated the chips that were unlike those typical thick pub oven/fried chips. I think you can tell a good kitchen by those chips and you guys nailed it. My one tiny critique is that I wasn’t a massive fan of the tikka type curry sauce. I personally prefer the more chip shop garam masala kind and my wife felt the same with hers. But I was glad to see it was served with a sauce like that at all. I also tried the suet stake and kidney pie which was outstanding. I wanted to choose it but I really don’t like kidney but the suet pie, steak and gravely tasted outstanding. I know it’s traditional but for me I’d just have smaller kidney pieces and/or less of it, but that’s me.I wish we had room for dessert but the main meals were so generously sized I couldn’t even think about foot the next day. If I were to visit Cornwall again I would love to come back to this great pub, more than a pub really it’s an experience. I hope your locals support you well and people come far and wide to enjoy your amazing establishment.

Relatively easy to find village pub (signposted from the Callington to Gunnislake road), and what a find it turned out to be!!. Cornwall CAMRA pub of the year 2019 & 2020, the beers were excellent and interesting breweries too.The pub does very good food, is child-friendly, has car parking, and also has a beer garden. while you are there, check out the outstandingly beautiful views over the River Tamar!!!!The staff are very friendly and well-organised re Covid, and provided an excellent service. The pub, which has strong community links, also hosts the village shop, and I cannot think of too many pubs that not only have a (very friendly) pub dog, but also have a pub tortoise!I will definitely go back!!

Over the last month, like a lot of people we have had a lot of pub lunches.. the best by far was yesterday at the White Hart at Chilsworthy.. there were six of us, three had the "fish and chips" the fish was beer battered hake and served with mushy peas and curry sauce.. the fish was really good and the chips the best we have had anywhere..one of us had the Cornish Yarg and onion pie with potatoes and salad.. very nice indeed..and two of us had the local river mussels, moules mariniere, served with crusty bread and a portion of chips.. possibly the best mussels we have ever had.. really, the food here is beyond top gastro pub quality.. to go with all of this there is a great unusual range of ales ..Seriously, the White Hart gets our top spot in pub dining in the area.. and we have tried everywhere..Fantastic food, great value, and the staff were really friendly too.. defo 5 stars!!

Bank Holiday lunch. Freindly and welcoming pub (CAMRA cornish pub 2020 and well deserved). The menu is quite varied for a traditional pub and goes well beyond the standard burgers etc. There are some classics but also a nice variety of local produce, cooked fresh. On our table we had 2 x duck breasts in a blackberry sauce, fish and chips, yarg pie, sea food pasta and, of course, the mussels. Everything was fresh and vibrant. The local mussels were simply amazing; sweet tender, cooked to perfection, and a great big serving. They came with chips and bread but I really needed an entire baguette to soak up the deliciously creamy sauce. Apparently this us a popular dish and it is clear why. We cleared the plates enthusiastically, thought about dessert, but really did not have the space. And don't forget this is a really nice pub with great beer, and fantastic views.

First time I've eaten here but it wont be the last. We had everything - Good company, friendly welcome, good service and amazing food. I can say hand on heart the Hungarian Goulash was to die for. The steak fell apart in the mouth, the sauce was sooo tasty and the potatoes sprinkled with cheese were a real treat. Only one of our party was disappointed and that was my husband who after finishing his trio of sausages, realised there was nothing left on my plate for him to finish!! A lovely evening all round. Thank you all. X

We are local and have eaten many times at the whitehart. the meals have always been very pleasant and we have come away well-fed and happy. Since lockdown, the whitehart has undergone a transformation, in looks, atmosphere and the quality of the food. This is not good pub grub, this is very good restaurant-quality food at a reasonable price. We all have been delighted with our meals and they are very generous. The chicken supreme is absolutely delicious, rich, comforting, and with great depth of flavour. The seafood linguini was the best my son had ever had and the fowey mussells are huge with the most delicious, creamy sauce. So if you are looking, in the Tamar Valley, for a great, go to , place for special family occasions, or a meal for two that will delight without breaking the bank, then this is THE place to go. I feel my waistline may suffer as we shall be frequent visitors. Sorry there are no photos, I tucked in, way too fast for that!

We were greeting by the staff who were friendly, we had pre booked and were shown to our table which was crammed in the corner basically inside the dart board, very close to another table of people. Which in these current times isn’t ideal and not what you expect when you’ve pre booked. I know times are hard and you probably need all the customers you can get but there definitely were too many tables considering the size of the pub. The food was usual pub grub and we did enjoy our meals, but we just didn’t expect the chicken in a curry to be chicken legs, it should definitely be stated on the menu or telling people when this is ordered, as we are not sure we would have had this if we had known as we aren’t a big fan of boned chicken. Lots of potential for this pub considering the views and local pub feel it has, but just feel like a couple things could be tweaked.

Tonight was the first night I've eaten out at the White heart in a long time. The food has absolutely shot through the roof. Easily the best food in the Tamar Valley, and dare I say it south east Cornwall.I had the mussels for starts. Cooked perfectly, huge portion. I would happily pay double for the size and flavour. Then for mains I had the seafood lingerie. Bloody hell, never had a lingerie that good in my life. So good, I wanted to drink the sauce. Well done guys. See you again soon

We stayed at Thimble Lodge and The White Heart was recommended by the owner, we are so glad it was! Just a 20 minute walk up the hill and worth every minute. We arrived to a friendly welcome and had drinks on the balcony, where the view was stunning even though it was misty and raining! I had ham, egg and chips and my husband had the duck pie. Both were delicious and filling As we were staying local we wanted to eat there again as the food was so good, so we did! This time we both had pie (chicken, bacon and mushroom) as the pie is always freshly cooked on the day! As you can see from the photos it looked delicious and it was! We just about made room for dessert...banoffee pie and warm chocolate brownie...YUMMY! We were then lucky enough to eat a 3rd time on the same night as the 'review' below and we had great service and food again! I would highly recommend The White Heart Inn,it's worth the drive from surrounding areas, as we ate at a different pub on one night (unfortunately the The White Heart was fully booked) and although food was ok, there was very little parking and no real atmosphere! Thank you for giving me 3 nights off from cooking! We enjoyed our time spent in your lovely pub, even when we just popped in for a drink too!

Have been a regular at the White Hart for 3/4 years, enjoyed the great beer and honest pub food, but last night was something special. It was the first night of the new chef's menu. What a choice! and what quality! I could not have found the equal of that meal anywhere in east Cornwall. We have booked for tonight and tomorrow night, and beyond,We can't wait to work our way through that menu!! Great freshly cooked ingredients, great presentation and the flavors, Wow. We have now returned five times and tested other meals from the new menu and recommended friends also enjoy the experience. Without exception all would rate The White Hart at five star. This has now put this pub in the Tamar valley 'on the map' for exceptional food at good prices, fine beers and friendly atmosphere.Andrew Hill

Ate dinner here, probably the same day as the review before this one because I had the baked cod with linguine as well... I got a cardamom pod too, hahaha. But that’s what happens with freshly cooked food, eh?The meal, itself, was delicious and, thanks to Rishi, very reasonable price-wise.We were a table of two locals (one very local) and two, not so, locals (One Scots and one Londoner) so a microcosm of the place really as, from what I could hear, there were tables of both all enjoying themselves. It’s always irritating when folk compare a much loved and welcoming, pub down here with The Slaughtered Lamb (American Werewolf in London reference there... ). I have been in pubs where the conversation does stop, when you go in the door, and everyone turns around to stare at you.The White Hart isn’t like that at all.As to locals not taking any notice of the one way system, we’ve noticed this in other places too.Mostly blokes, to be fair. And not all of them... one or two only who, presumably, don’t see the notices asking them to take this covid madness seriously.Or maybe they don’t realise it applies to them as well?In any event we should be kind, shouldn’t we?Partial vision... autism... ?And if we can’t be kind then perhaps we should consider the odds of catching covid from a local (or anyone) leaving via the ‘entrance’ door when no-one is coming the other way.And not worry too much.

Booked at lunchtime for the "help out eat out" government aided scheme. Wish we hadn't of bothered. Turned up 5 mins before table was booked, so, on time!Ordered a couple of drinks, young girl behind bar very helpful and let me try the ales to see which one I liked (good start!). then ordered food. Wife had goats cheese and bruschetta (cheese cold and not melted!) my mussels from Fowey were lovely apart from one which didn't open, know not to eat! Meanwhile the Landlady asked twice at the table next door if their food was OK, never bothered to ask us on her passing (twice!), not good! Obviously don't want foreigners!!Main course duly served, wife had the pie of the day (only lukewarm!) with cold potatoes and I had the cod linguine (nice flavour apart from the cod tasting a little old and the rock in the food which I could not explain it's presence, bizarre!) Ordered another pint of Gun Dog beer whilst eating the main course, I watched the Landlady pour the Uley and thought it was for someone else but duly brought it to me, it was fine so didn't fuss. During the main course she visited the table of locals next door another twice to see if their food was OK and not once did she ask us!Locals completely ignored the one way system and kept coming in the exit only and were not challenged at all and kept standing a couple of feet away from us! (What's this I hear about a virus, not here!!!)Paid the bill and left! If you are not a local be prepared to be treated like a leper!!

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
