Come in tonight to get dinner and when we got it home the fish was like mush cold/uncooked the two guys working in there seemed on edge and keep checking the door who was coming in The chips seemed vile the guys working don't have a clue how to cook or anything won't be going here again bring back Sam!!!!!!!!!! Worst food I've ever had.

Chips were not cooked fully. Dark on the outside and a bit raw inside, so could only eat the little ones. The fish is not good either, very soggy and batter fell away when cutting it. Disappointing that the basics are not done well.

Very clean and modern interior for a chippy. Chips were a touch under cooked, scampi was just awful - tasted and smelled really bad. Put it in the bin. However, salt and pepper squid was lovely. Feels like a lucky dip unless it’s your local and you know what’s good and what isn’t.

Fish and chips at this place used to be consistently amazingly tasty. Fresh fish smelled beautiful. But now its very bad. Smells horrible and not fresh.

Unfortunately this establishment has gone down hill after Sam left. Undercooked chips and I don't rate the batter very highly. Over priced for quality received. I will continue to frequent this establishment as it's my local. However I hope the quality improves. Josh

Lovely fish and chip shop, very friendly service and good quality food. Lots of lunch time deals too and they always tell you if there is a deal that helps you get the food you're ordering cheaper. Service with a smile too. Love it.

Shocking accessibility for wheelchair users, when asked for a ramp for accessibility, the answer was no despite there being a legal requirement for shops to make “reasonable adjustments” for wheelchair users. In addition to this, the step into the shop is extremely rickety and nowhere near stable, nearly causing two people in said party to lose their footing and trip. Not good enough!

I actually loved that the fish was cooked right in front of me the batter wasn't that thick which I personally prefer but it was still really tasty and I'm not disappointed. The girl that served me was lovely and polite too.

St Pauls fish and chip shop in Cheltenham is absolutely first class. Excellent service and well cooked fish and chips at a very reasonable price. You can take away or eat in. I chose to eat in and the meal was freshly cooked. I thoroughly recommend St Pauls fish and chip shop and I will certainly be eating there whenever I am in Cheltenham Thanks for a great meal. I was in the area and needed some fish and chips and decided to try this. I'm glad I did. I had haddock which was cooked to order and the fish was fresh with good flakes and tasty batter that wasn't too greasy. The chips were well cooked and tasty. My only "complaint" was that the mushy peas were the standard tinned fare (being northern I appreciate real mushy peas when I find them! 😁). Staff were really friendly too. I'd definitely go back and definitely recommend it!

I have given 4 stars because the chap who was serving on his own was very polite and the shop looked spotless when I walked in after driving from Northleach for Gluten Free fish and chips only to be told that they no longer offer a GLUTEN FREE😕

Took the family to pitville park today and walked the 15 mins to this little gem after reading the reviews,, we were not disappointed 😊 the place is lovely, very clean and welcoming. The guy behind the counter was a lovely guy who we chatted with while our order was prepared. The food was outstanding!!! The price was great. The fish is definitely the best fish we have had from a chippy. 2 of our group had chicken burgers and said they are well worth a trip to Cheltenham for. All in all it topped our day off perfectly, we will be back that's for sure , well done 👍

It doesn't mention it on the menu board but the do really excellent gluten free fish and chips. Freshly cooked even to the point where they freshly mixed up the batter. Really nice piece of fish. I ate in and asked for tomato ketchup and was given generous portion in a bowl. Really friendly service

Sam provided food for an event I helped organise this weekend for over 50 guests. He was extremely helpful, making useful suggestions and his prices were very competitive. The food was delicious, delivered on time and many people commented on how fresh it was. I'd highly recommend.

Websters dictionary defines the word Divine as “supremely good” when associated with a meal, but I prefer to use the religious definition: “of, relating to, or proceeding directly from God”. It’s definition perfectly defines St. Paul’s Fish Bar. While searching high and low for the worlds best tasting fried squid, I decided during the height of the pandemic to venture to Cheltnham for the soul purpose of eating at St. Paul’s Fish Bar. Having to covid test multiple times, wait eagerly at many airports, and sit through multiple flights with aggravating children kicking and screaming was worth the venture. While me and my party entered for the first time, three things happened. One, I was jovially greeted by Sam. Sam is simply known as “the worlds happiest man”. While working endless days in unbearable fryer heat and managing a passionate personal life. Sam instantly becomes your best friend, there is no facade in his customer service. He is there not only to serve but to know you, he won’t ever forget you. Two, the smell of delicious food will enter your nostrils like a Disney smoke trail, one from a perfectly placed pie outside an old women’s window. It will leave you levitating three feet off the ground (about a meter for you brits) and floating towards the counter nose first. Three, I immediately noticed the lack of golden and circular fried squid in counters window. A world ending catastrophe, a perception which as an American could be defined as a justification for invasion. My only hope was to query Sam, The Slayer of the Cephalopod, of the squids absence. As I asked, time froze. Our eyes locked and before the breath left his lungs and his mouth began to move I noticed the incoming disappointment. The logistics company failed to deliver. All off the hard working anglers catching a product that wasn’t going to the people who needed it. A product which they not only enjoy producing but admire as a way to food an entire population. I quickly dashed my eyes at the menu, hoping for another perfect option. But was interrupted as Sam informed me of his freshly delivered Cod. An English delicacy, classic fish n chips. Before he even finished speaking my pointer finger metaphorically caressed the poor mans lips in a way of saying “hush, enough said”. As my party finished to order and the meal was payed for, I could see Sam working not only at a pace of DC Comics “The Flash”, but efficiently by continuing to entertain us with his opinions on American Football and Diablo. You see, it takes a master of his craft to not only perfectly execute his duties but to verbally adapt to their clients. He was profound, professional, some would even say dangerous. As the dance concluded and we were provided the bag of foam box’s containing our meals, we parted ways. A journey to our way home commenced and soon after, the dinner table. As we opened our box’s and bags the steam of freshly fried cod hit my face at the heat of the sun. My eyes burned but not from the heat, but from the beautiful golden colored fish. I was in love, but skeptical. Could the taste possibly match the physical appearance of this master piece? I used my fork to cut the fish, the sounds of its crunchy outside and softly cooked inside orgasmicly greeted my ears. I couldn’t tease myself anymore, I inhaled the cod. This marks two mistakes: the first one being me forgetting to blow my food causing a severe burn in my gullet and the second being me describing a fried fish in such a sexual way that my girlfriend is now jealous. But blowing on food like this would be an insult and restricting my words would be morally wrong. A sacrifice of sleeping on the couch is an acceptable sacrifice for a whistleblower preaching his hidden satisfaction. But I will leave my experience at an end here, the word limit is what truly stops me, not my mistress…. I went back multiple times, enjoying the meals and sams company. While leaving me disappointingly sucicidal that I never got my squid. I was still greeted with options that are just as good or even better. I’ll be back again soon!

Batter was very greasy but the cod was freshly cooked and perfect. Chips were good too. Took it to the park for a picnic supper.

Used it late on Saturday night after long drive for house removal so needed something quick and easy. Takeaway was spotlessly clean with no one else in. Ordered sausage and fish supper, but because it was late on the Saturday and that the fish wouldn’t stay fresh we were given 3 slice of battered fish for the same good value price. Loads of chips with it too so despite having a feast for under £10 for the 2 of us we couldn’t manage to scoff all of this chips! Will definitely use again next time we visit Cheltenham.

So I went into the St Pauls fish bar as I do quite often, however today it was going to be a whole different experience. I stood staring at the board having no idea what I wanted to eat, all I knew was that I was hungry! At the shop there is a product called southern fried chicken which I will confess Is probably my favourite thing that they do even with them being a fish and chip shop. I asked if they had any chicken and Sam the owner replied yes they did. My next question was could you possibly put that into a burger bun and add some onion rings? "Sure no problem" replied Sam. A few minutes went by and the girl behind the counter asked me what I wanted inside my burger, feeling a bit sheepish I just said whatever you think would be best. I was recommended the works with chillie sauce and garlic mayo so I stuck with the mayo. Before the burger was put into the box and wrapped up for me to take away with me, I glanced and saw these delectable slightly golden pieces of chicken being gently coated in mayo as he pushed the top of the bun down to be able to get it to fit inside the box. Somehow there was 2 pieces of chicken that wouldn't fit in the burger and they were put in a bag separately and off I went. I only live a few minutes from the shop so I opened the bag with the separate chicken and took a bit out and popped it in my mouth. You know that weird little head bobble you do when food is too hot? I was doing that, meanwhile I was also salivating from how tender and juicy the chicken was. Alongside a beautiful crispy batter on the exterior I knew I was in for an absolute treat. I got home opened the door and proudly sat on the couch as if I were a king waiting to be inaugurated. What happened next was a texture and flavour delight! The fresh and crisp lettuce with cool mayo and still slightly to hot chicken did not stop me from demolishing the entire thing in 6 bites. The onion rings providing a little bit of a different crunch to the bite and making the burger almost to big to fit into my mouth was a great touch. Not much else to say apart from that it was the best burger I have had in my life!! Love the food and staff they have in their.

Lovely chippy lovely people! The chips were gorgeous and service was quick. The shop was lovely and clean and felt warm and welcoming. As a veggie I’m often left disappointed with the options for me at chip shops, but the battered halloumi here was unreal and left me feeling completely satisfied and without the usual sense that I’m missing out. The price was excellent too, most places I’ve seen charge upward of £6 for a few bits of battered halloumi, but I thought £4.50 here was really reasonable, especially for the portion size. Definitely planning on visiting regularly!

Chips all tasted grainey,like sand or dust. Fish overcooked like rubber. Oil did not look fresh. Complained and he said he will give free meal, few weeks later i ordered the same and more which i paid the difference. AGAIN not happy, found a strand of hair in 1 fishcake and cardboard paper in another, felt sick after that, threw all away, didnt bother to complain. Will never go back and advise others too.

The owner and staff prefer to cook it fresh so it's always the best it can be and with such a friendly service I dont know how anyone could mark it down. It's definitely the best 'proper' fish and chips in Cheltenham. Please try here first and always call the shop if you can instead of a delivery company as they are so so helpful and likely to be much better value.
