Our works Christmas party every year and always amazing

Finally made it here and tried the boodle fight. So glad that we did! An incredible amount of delicious food: lovely seafood, squid, delicious fried fish, beautifully cooked pork and three types of tasty rice. Plus much more. It was a really good social activity to do with friends. I found I was eating much more slowly using my fingers. We stayed for a long while, chatting and enjoying the vibe. The boodle fight is cracking value for money, and the staff are absolutely lovely; they cannot do enough for you! An all round excellent experience, unique and thoroughly enjoyable, one I will definitely repeat.

Due to lockdown our first experience was in takeaway form, and what a takeaway it was, hands down the best I've ever had! Crispy fish, logsilog (sausage), sticky chicken wings, king prawns, squid, crispy pata (slow cooked pork knuckle, then deep fried), three types of rice including something called Duman and stir fried vegetables. A feast in anybody's book and highly recommended.

Due to lockdown our first experience of The Tropical Hut was in takeaway form, and wowser what a takeaway! Hands down the best takeaway I've ever had! And better than a great many restaurant experiences too! What we had can only be described as a true feast - crispy fish, logsilog (sausage), sticky chicken wings, king prawns, squid, crispy pata (slow cooked pork knuckle, then deep fried), three types of rice including something called Duman, and stir fried vegetables. An absolute gem!

We went out for a family meal in September and had been looking forward to the Boodle Fight. The sheer quantity of food for the money was staggering and the pork knuckle was enormous! We ordered for two adults and our 2 kids, 4 and 8, shared our order - we still couldn't finish it! The food was both tasty and well cooked and the novelty of eating with our hands went down brilliantly with the kids! Highly recommended

This is not for everyone and we were not aware that the Boodle meal basically means you are eating off the table without knives and forks. We were a mixed group and thoroughly enjoyed the food, other than the crab that was not the best. The staff were pleasant and I can imagine that children would really enjoy it.

My first experience dining in Filipino restaurant. I was so lucky to discover this place in the summer. It was delicious. Pork was crispy and juicy. Full of flavour. Customer service was fantastic. Make sure book a table in advance as it is often fully booked. Wish I could visit it more often.

We recently visited The Tropical Hut. There were 4 of us and we booked for the Boodle Fight! WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! Long banana leaves were laid on the table, and after we'd ordered and received our drinks, the lovely waitresses began bringing out the food! Alongside the standard Boodle Fight, we also ordered crab as well as an extra, and it was incredible and the crab was massive! The food was super tasty. It was a weird but wonderful experience, we've never eaten rice with our hands before but it was really fun! We struggled to finish all the food, but the waitresses were happy to put the extras in the tupperware we had brought with us, they do have plastic containers for the occasion, but be environmentally conscious and bring your own! Highly recommend, and we'll definitely be back! *****

I have twice been here with my family and each time we have had a 'Boodle Fight!' Dont jump to the wrong conclusions! A Boodle Fight is a traditional Filipino dish, much loved by the Filipino military. It is absolutely delicious, really not to be missed and a completely different dining experience. The meal, consisting of meat (pork) sea food, fish, rice and vegetables is heaped in the middle of the table on banana leaves and you help yourself - eating with only your fingers. The food is always cooked to perfection and the service is excellent. This is a fabulous place to eat and strongly recommended. There is a good range of dishes beside the Boodle Fight, but for a fun night out give it a try. Booking in advance is probably required.

I had a Randang which was nice and spicy and my friend had vegetarian stir fry with mushrooms. I also had the satay which was very tasty. The place is slightly out of the main drag but we found it ok

I used to go to this restaurant when I lived in Taunton love this place it’s such a sham that I left Taunton but hopefully I will visit it soon will definitely be going back the food OMG amazing Tasty wow I can’t explain how tasty the food is 10/10 :)

This place was recommended to me and this was my first visit. Ordered a savoury broth with rice noodles, beef, egg, chilli and vegetables. The presentation and flavours were excellent. Service was efficient and with a smile. The external frontage of the restaurant is not reflected in the menu and food... Well worth a visit and next Time I will have the boodle fight..

I only found out about this restaurant a few months ago and have been meaning to visit but never did. However, my daughter suggested a visit for her birthday and we agreed as a family. Wow!, We ordered the Boodle Fight, and what a brilliant choice. Served in the middle of the table and eaten with fingers (cutlery was available if required) it was a culinary delights. 3 types of rice, prawns, squid, vegetables and topped with a large pork knuckle. Everything was cooked to perfection and it was clear to see that the staff were friendly and helpful and intent on making sure we had a good time. I can't wait to go back again, absolutely brilliant!

Came here for the boodle feast with extra green lipped mussels on a Saturday night and all of us were totally really really impressed by the entire experience. The food was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious, the service attentive and very friendly without being intrusive and the quirky exterior and decor intriguingly works. Lots of finger bowls and napkins made the boodle experience a breeze but don't just take my word, try it or something else on the menu ! I think the other reviews explain and show the boodle experience so well I'll leave it to them.

Had my Christmas works party here and had the boodle fight and everyone enjoyed the food it was amazing so impressive, will be going back for sure . Try the red horse beer gives you a nice strong beer from the Philippines . Thanks for a great night

We ordered in advance, as we wanted the full experience, which is the Boodle Fight with crab. When we arrived we were made to feel welcome and the owner explained the meal. The boodle fight is a traditional feast served on banana leaves directly on the table and eaten with fingers. We cheated and asked for forks, just in case. After a short wait, with drinks, the food arrived, three types of rice including one bright green rice, followed by chilli chicken wings, massive king prawns, squid with vegetables, some grilled fish, some Philippine sausages, a massive pork knuckle and then two enormous crabs! All this was laid out on the table (see photo) and we asked the owner to break open the crabs while we tried the rest. The food is fantastic, especially the crackling on the pork joint. Amazing! This also goes really well with a lemon and soy sauce we were given. This was a proper feast, more than we could eat in one sitting. And extraordinarily reasonably priced, considering the quantity and quality of the food. We were also given finger bowls plenty of napkins and a generously sized fresh wipe in a sachet, which was much appreciated. This was great value for money and a great experience. The owners might want to consider making the outside of the restaurant a bit more tropical looking somehow, this is the only bit that lets down an otherwise fantastic experience.

Was able to get a reservation last minute and made sure I ordered the boodle fight to surprise my husband with,something a little different. We were not disappointed.The decor is very kitchy, with a 3D bamboo wallpaper which was almost hypnotic.Firstly I told the lady looking after us we had never had Philapino food before and she was so lovely and described everything that was put in front of us. The boodle fight was a great experience( one we had to ring everyone and tell them about)fabulous selection of beautifully prepared food. There was nothing we didn’t like. It was fun eating with our hands. Also had a cocktail which I must say was one of the nicest I’d ever had. Lovely,fun and sweet date night. Would highly recommend.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Hair in food, horrible, smelly toilets, tacky, dirty restaurant combined with an argumentative, intellectually challenged owner. Definitely one to avoid.

So few people know how good Filipino food is. Don't be those people. I'm sat in the Tropical Hut with my Filipino wife, enjoying some wonderful food in a clean and pleasant restaurant staffed with friendly people. Prices are fair as well, despite many of the ingredients being imported. Beer aficionados should try a Red Horse while they're here too.

I am lucky enough to eat out fairly regularly, I know lucky me. I've driven past this restaurant numerous times and always presumed it was a small Caribbean take away. Tonight I was so lucky and checked on TripAdvisor and read about this wonderful Filipino restaurant.

If you like Asian food, most likely you won't have tried much food from the Philippines. It deserves a wider audience, if the "Boodle Fight" shared lunch at Tropical Hut is anything to go by. From outside it looks like a scruffy takeaway joint, and inside it looks like some lurid Club Tropicana. Don't let either put you off: the Filipino staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful, and all the other customers (when we went), were all Filipinos, which boded well. The star attraction here is the "Boodle Fight" lunch, a smorgasbord of meat, seafood, vegetables and rice served on banana leaves and eaten with your hands. NOTE: you have to book for a Boodle Fight in advance. "Boodle Fight" is apparently a term with military origins, when soldiers would sit down at the messroom table and fight for the piles of food. When we went it included 3 types of rice, stirfried veggies, squid stir fry, some massive prawns, chicken wings, Filipino sausage and the piece de resistance, a huge pork knuckle with plenty of crackling. Nothing is too spicy; the predominant flavours are soysauce and pepper. Anyway it's all delicious, and quite fun trying to work out how best to get rice into your mouth with your fingers without making a massive mess. Tropical Hut is about a ten-minute walk from Taunton town centre (or you could do what we did and park in the pub car park opposite). Well worth the effort to have such an unusual and delicious food experience.

This place is rustic and qwerky and the food is delicious. Such fantastic value for money. In a world of plain, predictable chain restaurants this place is a hidden gem. No, it's not flashy and polished and if that's your thing then best go elsewhere but if you're looking for tasty food, a relaxed atmosphere and somewhere unlike anywhere else in the area then definitely give this a go.

Please do not let the outside of the restaurant put you off! It doesn't look like much but once you get insidet, it's a truly unique dining experience! I really enjoy the tropical hut. Also if you want to be interesting book ahead and get the-boodle. Eat with your hands and have fun. The owners are lovely and always helpful.

Very nice and authentic south-east asian cuisine. The adobo was spot on, and very reasonably priced and well portioned! All our meals were delicious - we'll definitely try the boodle fight next time, we saw some other diners having it and it looked incredible!

there were 9 of us all seated at a long table. The food when it arrived was beautifully presented but it little surprised that us having the shabu shabu dish had to cook our own food but we enjoyed it and caused a lot of merriment. The food was good and very healthy as it was meat, seafood and vegetables. Good to go in a group.

We had vowed to go here for quite a long time and as it was our anniversary we decided to give it a go. We pre booked as it was a Tuesday. On arriving we discovered we were the only ones who had booked and the owner had opened specially for us. She explained the food and we ordered. Had the soup and my wife the king prawns, followed by crispy pork knuckle and the duck. Fabulous food, wonderfully cooked. The duck was perfect, served on a bed of the most tasty red cabbage. The crispy pork knuckle was just that. Perfect crispy skin with succulent moist pork inside. Wine was not silly prices either. A brilliant meal for two with drinks for under £50. The decor is simple but effective. It reminded us of nights spent in a beachside restaurant in Thailand. Lovely. We will definitely return.

We just walk-in without pre-book a table. We had the 'Boodle Fight'. A large banana leave was placed on the table where all the food are put on it --3 different type of rice / 2 crabs/ squids / tempura prawns (I think they are bought from supermarket) / sausages/ pork knuckles and small amount of vegetable. The rice soon got very cold. Lovely food. We can't eat them all. So doggie bag.

Came here last minute and we were very impressed. The hidden gem of Taunton! The food is great, owners delightful and extremely welcoming and the green rice a pleasant surprise! Will come back for sure and probably go for a Boodle fight as everyone seems to rave about it..! :)

We ordered the boodle fight for 3 of us and my other son had the full rack of ribs, food was really tasty especially the squid and prawns, we also had 3 good sized crabs and ended up taking one home as couldn't finish it all, my 5 year old really enjoyed the experience as we all got stuck in by using our hands but I did cheat a little by using a fork

Four of us had the Boodle Fight and it was excellent, the mixture of different foods made for a great experience, the only thing my wife and I didn't really like was the Crab, but the Squid was the best I've had.The staff are friendly and efficient and will happily explain the origins of the food if there's something you haven't had before.As with other reviews don't be put off this place from the outside, give it a go it's excellent, we'll definitely be going back to try some more of this delicious food.Very reasonable drinks prices as well which is rare.Thank you all at the ' Hut ' for a lovely evening.

The food is generally delicious. A bit dark inside....maybe a change in decoration might do the trick! The service is quick and welcoming.

My husband and I enjoyed one of Tropical Hut's Boodle Fights which was absolutely delicious. The food was so tasty and cooked fresh. The place does not look like much from the outside but don't let that put you off. The food and service were definitely worth the visit, would highly recommend and it's worth prebooking a Boodle! As TauntonFoodie on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, I have been visiting some of Taunton's lesser-known eateries and this was next on my list! I have recently discovered a corridor of amazing restaurants in this little area, including the Skewer House, Bare Grills (if that's your kind of thing), the Mint and Mustard and the exceptional Sumo. There's no need for me to add to all the descriptions below. The Boodle Fight is something else. A veritable feast in the middle of the table that you eat with your fingers... Not something you'd want to do on a first date or with colleagues, maybe! The highlights were the milk fish, the squid, the green rice, the prawns and the skin of the pork knuckle. To be honest l, I found the crab to be a little tasteless ☹️ and the pork knuckle skin was amazing (like crispy duck) but the meat was hard, tough and chewy. Also, the fried rice was impossible to eat with your fingers. Please do not let this put you off. For £15 anywhere else in Taunton you would struggle to get the experience and the volume/value. Service was impeccable and the place was filled with Filipinos, which always says a lot (like Sumo is full of Japanese diners).Brilliant. Just brilliant. Loving Taunton's diverse range of eateries!

This place lives up to the reviews on trip advisor. We had the Boodle which is some of the most awesome tasting original food we have ever had. Everything is beautifully cooked and flavoured and very fresh. There are no restaurants like this in London! Terrific service and excellent value for money too. We came here on a stop over to Cornwall with our 5 year old girl and the staff made sure she was looked after too by specially preparing a meal for her as she is very fussy.

I've been here before so was excited to bring my sister here when she was visiting from London. Everything was delicious and hot. We had boodle 1 which such an amazing way to embrace this delicious cuisine. Loved it. Service was perfect, food was delish. We will continue to go to this hidden gem.

The tropical hut is one of the best places I have eaten at. You might not notice the place at first but you have to open your eyes and look for it as it will be the best experience you'll have. The food is just sooo good. It is always fresh, there's a lot of food to choose from. I just love the boodle fight, they have big servings, the food is divine, and the price is very reasonable! The crabs, pork knuckle, sausage, chicken, the green rice and so much more to come with for a cheap price. Plus, the staff are very friendly, the owner cooks for you and comes out and talks a out the food, shares stories about the boodle and how you dont use cutlery etc. You should try, you'll never regret it!

The first time we had been to the Tropical Hut. Not much to look at from the outside. Needs new signs and uplift but once you get in the décor is good and the food was excellent, Good service and friendly staff. We had the BBQ Ribs and Belly Pork but might try some of their more exotic dishes next time. Shame the place wasn't more crowded obviously the people of Taunton are yet to try it.

By far one of the best restaurants in Taunton and possibly my favourite ever, the service was amazing, food was served fast and the staff were really polite, and not to mention the food tasted amazing! It was authentic and perfectly cooked and they offered a great variety so you could order a normal meal for one or a more traditional meal to share and eat with fingers. It's something different and I wish there were more restaurants like it. One of the few gems of Taunton, cannot recommend enough!

Our large family group had a fabulous meal here - fun for the children being allowed to use fingers rather than cutlery and eating off banana leaves. Shabu shabu (could have been more spicy for our taste but that's not a big criticism) and boodle fight - well worth booking ahead for this fun experience. Staff very friendly.

They serve their food with an authentic smile and hospitality from the Far East.varied ,excellent food and great helpful staff .the main chef is the reassuring owner herself.If your looking for authentic Filipino cuisine this is the place to be..they serve food on a "boodle fight" setting where food are serve and layed altogether in a banana leaves and eaten by hand no cutleries! The food in the Tropical Hut is INCREDIBLE. So much flavour going on, it was gorgeous. We had the spring rolls and wonton for starters and for mains we had the pork knuckle and crispy duck. For drink we had a Woo Woo. I'm pretty picky with my food but honestly everything was spot on, I have no complaints whatsoever. Staff are lovely and friendly and had great recommendations for the menu! Will be coming back next week!I wish more people knew about the Tropical Hut, some of the best food in Taunton!

As long as you know what you're in for before you go you'll have a great meal. By this I mean; it has little curb appeal, it is rough around the edges inside and the menu is unusual to say the least. However, do not let this stop you, if like we did, you book a 'boodle fight' you will have a great night. Basically it consists of eating copious amounts of tasty food with your hands. Like I said as long as you know what you're getting yourself into it's great! Friendly service and delicious, crowd pleasing food. (Must book ahead for this experience.)

Been here so many times and will come back again! The food is so tasty! Specially the boodle fight - so many flavours, fine cuisine! Fresh sea food, everything cooked fresh! The staff is always welcoming and nice to talk with. Bring your family and your friends, you wont regret!

A friend recommended us to try and dine in here. We had several orders and one particular one was the Sea food Shabu Shabu and there were 5 other menus. All love the experience. There were 3 families who came with us, Mr. Hunt and Family from Bridgewater, Mr. Faller and family from YEOVIL and us with 3 kids. Lovely food and lovely people. Place was reasonably good and prices too. We thank you for the great timeWe came back again last December 2016 and it was once again an execellent evening for us. If you want a particular dishes, you should pre-order before you arrive. We placed our order a week before we came on the first time. We ordered 3 days before we came on our second comeback. Sadly, the order went missing but we are still entertained and served with a lovely tasty food. It all went Well.We recommend The Tropical Hut to anyone especially if you are Filipino who happen to wander away in Taunton. We will try boodle fight next time as this is what they are famous for. I have eaten here twice before, on both occasions I pre ordered the boodle fight and would recommend you do the same. Great fun and a different experience. I have eaten street food on many occasions in the Far East and this certainly gives you the authentic touch. I called in here without booking midweek and we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was freshly cooked which I appreciate takes time although I did feel that the chicken was dry and overcooked. The complimentary crackers were also oily and not that pleasant. A difficult balance when you have no bookings so no staff to wait on the customers and although the food was okay, to me failed to hit the mark on this occasion. Main dishes are between £11 and £15 so perhaps a little overpriced for what you get. The stir fried veg is excellent and I do enjoy the rice here. (First picture)

On our first visit we ordered off the menu, we had to return to try the Boodle Fight and Shabu Shabu. We weren't disappointed! We found the same friendly atmosphere, helpful staff and amazing food.I believe this is probably one of Taunton's best places to eat, so relaxed and flavoursome :)Definitely something I plan to return to again and again. Ok, so this place has been open for a long time and I've never been. It is only down the road. I went with my husband and was really surprised by the freshness of the food and the beautiful flavours. We didn't have the boodle fight but we saw 2 groups having this and this is a must! Go with a group of friends and have an amazing time.We just ate from the normal menu and it was delicious. Lovely beers and cheap wine also was a pleasant surprise.A really laid back atmosphere. Great service.I would recommend this place to anyone, it does not look like much from the outside but it isn't pretentious and overpriced like many place in Town!Sam

I booked the tropical hut as something different for my little girls 7th Birthday and we were so happy with the service and food. We weren't sure how the kids would react but they were so excited being able to eat with their hands. The food was delicious, not spicy just flavoursome. Delicious pork on the bone, battered fish, prawns, lovely rice and sausages. Even fussy eaters found something they liked. They even played Happy Birthday when we bought her cake out. I would highly recommend this place. the Boodle Fight is great when you have a few of you together they also have a set menu. We will definitely visit again!

Fab food! I had the veggie option which you cook on the table in a broth, very interesting! Loved it. Others on my table had a mixed meat menu where they were given rice, crab, pork... Actually basically just every kind of meat. All served on banana leaves. Brilliant food.

The table is covered with banana leaves ... NO cutlery ... three types of rice are served in the middle of the table ... then bit by bit your feast is served! Including lamb,king prawn, milk fish,chicken,stir fry veg,squid,whole crab (each!) Everything is explained as it comes ... very good value!

We had the Boodle Fight 2 between the four of us. It was fantastic! The food was lovely, all cooked perfectly. The pork knuckle and the crab were particularly nice, and fun to get to the meat. The portions were huge, we couldn't eat all of it, certainly didn't need a starter or pudding! The service was good.

Crab curry was amazing! Will be back for a boodle soon! 😀

This was out first time at Tropical Hut and we really enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and told us all about the food; the food was tasty especially the crab curry, the spring rolls and the satay chicken starter. The portions were so generous - we couldn't manage to finish it! Would recommend especially as it's so nice to have something a bit different in Taunton!

It's lovely to be able to have such a variety of eating places in town . The Tropical Hut is a very different eating experience. It was quite amusing. However the food was delicious and after getting over the whole no plates or cutlery thing ( we had he boodle fight) we really enjoyed ourselves. Definitely worth a try .

The pictures say it all really. A great experience. Food is nice but the experience is worth the trip. Relatively cheap for the volume of food not haute cuisine but delicious none the less. Make the trip!

Small, friendly little restaurant. 3 of us booked the boodle & it could have fed 5-6. Because I don't eat fish they did me more meat & veg, but there was a lot of fish for the other 2, including a whole crab each. Will spoil it a bit but the food is served on a banana leaf directly on the table & you eat with your fingers, we enjoyed this experience but some people might not, in which case choose from the regular dishes. We started with a cocktail each which although looked good, it was hard to taste the alcohol. The bottle of prosecco though was reasonably priced. Overall all we had a very delicious meal & I look forward to returning to try further dishes.

Visited for the first time on Thursday night, really friendly and helpful staff. Really unusual menu, everything tasted gorgeous. Highly recommended. Will be back for the Boodle fight which looked amazing!

Thank you so much for a lovely experience, the meal was just as I imagined and showed on the web, staff were so friendly and cheerful. It was a quiet night being a Wednesday. But there was 6 of us and we enjoyed the boodle fight it was great fun, tasted wonderful and so different. 2 of our friends had sizzling chicken, it was half a chicken they said it was gorgeous. Will definitely be going again, great with a group of friends or romantic dinner for to with big appetites.

Always keep coming back here, even invited friends over. Great food, good service. My husband like the cleanliness of the place.

I have heard of boodle fight before and i was really intruiged. I do like my filipino food and this little restaurant didnt disappoint. The food was freshly cooked and served right on the table in front of you. No cutleries needed. Its all about going back to basics. Eating by hand is just liberating. The food was just sumptious. The chicken was nice and so were the filipino sausage, crabs, shrimps, fried rice, ribs, vegetables and squid. We had egg fried rice, standard steamed rice and the lovely pandan sticky green rice as well. My belly was full and had a big smile in my face. Unfortunately I didnt leave enough room for dessert. Totally my fault. It was lovely. Thank you. Will come again thats for sure.
