I visited this restaurant on Saturday night and the only thing carrying the establishment is the service. The food was edible but not worth the price. I could hear one of the staff swearing in the kitchen from which i assumed he was swearing at the young waitress which is outrageous. On top of this, i was curious to see where the service charge was going and i found out the staff do not receive the service charge which i believe is unfair.

Called in for a coffee on Saturday afternoon, there were lots of tables that needed to be cleared; some customers were clearing their tables but nowhere to leave the trays. 2 staff on and people were coming in but when there was a lull in foot traffic 1 went out for a cigarette which is OK but the other was on his phone

Well, that was simply the best meal I've eaten in England since I went to Gravetye Manor a few years ago and it's less than half the price of that. Apt though, because the chef, Ollie, was pastry chef there a while back (hint - leave space for some dessert!). My two guests and I shared 3 starters between us and each one was sublime - the Soufflé clinching top place for all of us. This was followed by Bavette Steak and hand made frites. Ollie is French so, don't worry, he knows how to cook a Bavette. We were stuffed already, but took a short break and finished off with a Chocolate Fondant. I wouldn't usually touch this in most English restaurants, but trusted Ollie to do it justice. We were all wriggling with pleasure at each mouthful and wishing we'd had appetite for a dessert each. Sue and her staff were friendly and welcoming so the service gets 5*, but don't expect it to be fast because everything is freshly and lovingly prepared in their recently extended kitchen. "The best things come to those who wait" and this beats Heinz Ketchup by a dozen country miles and there's plenty of beautiful ones of those to wander along in the local area after your meal.

I was amazed at the choices for breakfast! I had a cappuccino to start and then two beautifully poached eggs with 2 fried slices, black pudding and a sliced (ripe) avocado. I’ve ever had all these together before and it was perhaps one of the tastiest breakfasts I’ve had. Service good, not too busy and hence not too noisy. Highly recommended!

We arrived at this restaurant at 12.30pm on 29th June having reserved a table for lunch through Open Table. The booking was confirmed on 20th June, and confirmation that we would be attending was requested on 28th June by Open Table. We confirmed our booking. On arrival the restaurant was closed, with no messages advising of the reason. On telephoning the restaurant, we were transferred to a mobile number. No response to our call has been received. Having driven 25 miles we were extremely frustrated and annoyed by this attitude, and the rudeness of failing to advise us of the closure, or provide any form of response to us.

Awful! We had visited years ago and enjoyed so thought we’d take family. Service was ridiculously slow, they were busy which could have been forgiven if food was nice but chicken was suspect, salmon started smelt so bad we were scared to eat, tangy off smell.

My partner booked this for a night. I've previously been but not since the refurb a few years ago. I was amazed at how different it is....it's very friendly for one thing but the decor and interiors, the fantastic food! Breakfast options were very nice, rooms, comfortable and the staff go out of their way for guests. Our room was really comfortable and clean and there was sloe gin that we could help ourselves to in our room, so we did! A lovely place, can't wait to go back!

£4.50 for microwaved bacon in a stick and £3 for tea (that you pretty much make yourself) in a paper cup. Ridiculous is an understatement. This is the kind of place rich people with no common sense go.

Excellent pie (big chunks of steak), mash and various veg, piled high, with thick gravy. Ribeye steak succulent, coming with big fat chips. Desserts well worth going for too. All this with real ale, a view from upstairs over the village green, and the romance of a 700 year old pub. Visit!

Visited Chartwell house for the first time and ate here for lunch. Lovely spot outside to sit in the sun and have lunch. I especially really enjoyed the tasty homemade sausage roll and my husband enjoyed the sandwich and flapjack. Tea and service very good, all very clean and I thought for under £20 well priced.
