A very good cafe offering the usual very good standard National Trust menu (sandwiches, baked potatoes, other snack meals and cakes (one reservation is, on the cake side, there could more choice for Gluten Free diets)), served by friendly, helpful staff. There's plenty of seating, both inside and outside, and, a new innovation, there is now a room where dogs are welcome. A good place to drop into when you are walking round Chartwell.

The quality of the food is generally quite good here however, and I mean however, the inventory is non-existent it’s been three times I’ve been here and three times the fridge has been empty and this is because the sandwiches are popular and very tasty but I don’t think it’s fair to advertise yourself as a cafe and then not have food available for people when they come in. Plenty of kids options with vegan and gluten-free options to their cake are delicious but that’s if you can find something to eat, especially if you turn up after 1pm. Services is generally okay and the place is very clean and it’s a beautiful setting a lovely view of the garden. You can sit outside in the summer and there is level access for wheelchairs to get into the cafe and out .

We have been frequent visitors to Chartwell over many years. The house is amazing, gardens beautiful, and the walks around the estate and woods challenging but rewarding. We like to walk there from Emmett's Garden, have lunch in the cafe, then walk back to Emmett's. Sadly, the cafe continues to offer poor service. Whilst prices have understandably risen in recent years (now £6.25 for a small bowl of soup!) we have been disappointed with the poor selection of food over the past year or so. One of our favourites - Cornish Pasties - have been removed from the menu and their delicious Sausage Rolls are invariably sold out by 12.30pm. The selection of pre-packed sandwiches is poor. We chose to have the soup today which usually comes with a generous chunk of wholemeal bread. Sadly, a piece of white bread was the only choice which had a crust like leather and the bread was like eating cotton wool. If the NT wants to continue to please its members it should pay more attention to the visitor experience and cease its wokish campaigning and political posturing. As a charity they need to focus entirely on their raison d'etre.

We came for lunch after a brilliant trip to Chartwell. We arrived just before 13:00 and it wasn't busy yet. We each had a jacket potato, one with tuna one with beans and cheese. I had coffee and walnut cake and a cappachini. My wife had a cookie and a water. It came to about £22. The potatoes were ready very quickly. The portions werw very big and came with a side salad and coleslaw (delicious). It was all really nice and filling. The cafe was clean with plenty of seats. It did start to get busy shortly after we started eating.

So different to our last visit in summer when the cafe was extremely. This time the cafe was very quiet but the staff were just as happy and helpful, in fact more so, because there wasn't a queue. The snacks and coffee were up to the usual good National Trust standard. Covid regulations were being observed.

Named after Georgina Landemare who was Winston Churchill's cook for over 20 years, the Landemare Cafe at Chartwell is up to the usual good standard for food and service you expect to receive from a National Trust establishment. The day we went, the cafe was extremely busy but this did not make any difference to the cheerfulness of the staff and the speed of service. Covid regulations were observed and there was hand sanitiser available for those who wished to use it. Even as busy as it was, there was still plenty of seating available inside, although outside was slightly more crowded as quite a few dog owners had been walking their pets round the grounds.

We have just visited Chartwell on 3 Sept but found the service (preparing 2 coffees) painfully slow. It was also very difficult to see which of the coffees arriving were actually ours to take. The quality of the coffee, cake and baguettes was however very good but we could imagine that in high season it would be impossible for this cafe to cope with demand based on our experience..

Stopped in Landemare to have a coffee before Chartwell opened. American coffee really isn't what Americans are used to. Pour overs aren't the same as drip. However, I digress. We also split an enormous piece of walnut cake that was quite tasty. A little sugar to fuel our energy after just arriving on an overseas US flight. As we were sitting, people began to rush into the cafe from the outdoor tables. We looked up and there was an enormous swarm of bees (honeybee possibly?) that stayed outside for the better part of half an hour. Not sure what all that was about but glad to see the little guys faring so well over in beautiful Kent.

This is the restaurant for National Trust Chartwell, and shares many of the characteristics you expect from a cafe at an attraction. The atmosphere is clean and open, and can absorb a large number of people without excessive noise. I had a first-class chicken tagine, brightened with pomegranate seeds, and served with excellent cous-cous. Tea comes in a generous pot, and is of high quality. Ice cream is local and delicious.

Long queues, slow service, only two cashiers and was pricey for what was on offer. Cakes were nice but at £3.50 a slice they should be nice. People allowing their dogs to sit on the wooden outside tables put us off and we sat on a wall to eat our cakes and drink our expensive coffees. Overhaul, it was ok but we felt it was overpriced for what was on offer especially the meal deal of £20 for two courses (lasagne, soup) or £25 for three courses. At the end of the day, this is a cafe and the prices do not reflect this.

Recommended at the guest house, we had high expectations. It would be wrong to say we were disappointed, but we weren’t entirely satisfied either. You didn’t get that warm reception that you sometimes get and which can cover for some other flaws. The menu was not ‘rich’, but there was definitely something to find. The same goes for the wine list. The portions were a bit small, and though the menu was all English food, you got the feeling of some posh French restaurant. Not disappointed, but completely satisfied.

Busy despite it being almost 2pm... canteen style service, ran out of the soup of the day just as I was to be served, almost no sandwiches left to choose from - lucky to get something veggie... expensive but I always find that with NT restaurants/cafes so not a surprise. Not many places to sit. I nabbed a table where someone had taken one of the chairs so could only seat one person anyway. Just an average experience really. I would recommend visiting Chartwell on a nice day so you can take a picnic or even just at least have a snack brought from home instead.

We arrived at midday so not quite into the lunchtime rush yet. And for that time of day the choices were very disappointing; maybe because just after Xmas? As the previous reviewer suggested take a picnic but a bit cold for that just now so if I were you, stop at the Tudor Rose tearooms in Westerham first for breakfast or brunch. Only sandwich choices were cheese and chutney which was OK and my daughter had the BLT baguette with very fatty bacon. Only alternative was egg mayo. I would have loved some soup but it was tomato and chilli which even the lady serving said was very spicy. Why not a nice simple winter soup made with local vegetables? My partner had sausages with bubble and squeak but it came piled with onions on top which he doesn't eat so had to be scraped off. No mention of the onions on the menu board! Sausages didn't taste great either. Like other reviews say it is a bit expensive and to be honest not worth the money. For example cappuccino £3 and a bit of bubble plus sausages almost £9. Total for 3 of us almost £27. Good points? Enough space and tables with the extra dining area annexe. And staff were nice especially the nice man who kept whizzing into the dining room with food and rushing out again. Shame there wasn't much evidence of local produce and when we went back later for a coffee there were no biscuits at all. Just a bit of cake left and chocolate bars. What about locally made biscuits?? Out of 59 reviews for this place about half rate it as poor, terrible or just average and no one such as the café manager or someone from NT responds. Bit odd and I'm not sure what Winston would think.

Six of us, four adults and two children went to this cafe whilst visiting Chartwell and I for one wish we hadn't bothered. Now it was during half term school holiday and yes it was raining but instead of finding a cheery place to get warm we found ourselves in a very packed, not to clean cafe where the staff just didn't seem to care as long as they got their money. Tables were in short supply and consequently piles of previous occupants dishes were stacked up and even when cleared by staff the tables were no cleaned. It was very busy and we stood in a queue for a good ten minutes only to find when we arrived at the serving counter that the soup to be changed from French onion to squash and a nice server telling us that 'no that lady there got the last baked potato' . How can you run out of baked potatoes for goodness sake? The price of the food and drinks were expensive and there seemed to be a genuine lack of care or concern to customers. Some direction and management would certainly not go amiss. I will go back to Chartwell hopefully but not to this cafe and next time we will be taking a picnic - I suggest you do the same.

I hate writing negative reviews, but unfortunately we did not feel we had a positive experience at this cafe. After a lovely morning exploring Chartwell and its grounds we went to the Cafe for a spot of lunch and a coffee. Having seen the adverts boasting of food using local and Chartwell produce we had high expectations. Sadly these were not met. Hot food seemed to consist of Soup & a roll,-(Parsnip& Apple I think-odd!!) Plain jacket potato or a jacket potato with a chilli bean filling and sausage and mash.We only wanted a light lunch so looked for sandwiches, however all that was on offer were some filled rolls, with only 3 choices of fillings, One had goats cheese, egg& pickled veg as a filling, one had lentils /salad in some guise and there was one with sausages. There were some salads but they seemed to be mainly Tuna fish with Pomegranate seeds. To be honest none of it looked very appetizing, but we were hungry,so we chose a Sausage bap and an Goats cheese and Egg bap respectively. The Egg& cheese roll was pronounced ok, but would have been better without the Goats Cheese! The Sausage bap was ok, the roll seemed very dry, not particularly fresh tasting bread, and although the Sausages were ok, it was overall quite boring and bland, -quite simply it was Bread and Sausage, it did the job, but certainly was not the best or nicest lunch I have eaten. And for a National Trust cafe it was surprisingly bad. These places are usually so good for food. The saving grace- the Coffee &Flapjack was nice.But- at £20.00 + for 2 rolls 2 coffees 2 packets of crisps& 2 bits of flapjack, value for money it certainly wasn't !! - however having seen other more positive reviews perhaps we just got them on an off day, the staff were pleasant enough, and its a nice cafe with plenty of seating.Considering the volume of visitors to Chartwell, food options/ choices seemed extremely poor compared to just about every other N/T cafe I have ever visited, but that is just my experience on this day,& I don't think we'll be rushing back here any time soon.

We spent our week in London having lunches at the cafes of the various attractions that we visited. Most were just average, and the Landemare cafe is no exception. The food was OK, the selection was OK, and the service was very good. At Chartwell you are kind of a captive audience since there isn’t much else close by, so you have little choice but their cafe. Given that, it is perfectly acceptable, and doesn’t really disappoint if you take it for what it is. The place was clean and the service staff was friendly and helpful. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but not unexpected given its location. When back at Chartwell, I wouldn’t hesitate to eat here again, but it wouldn't be the reason for the visit.

As you expect from the National Trust, everything is done well, proper coffee, large cups and decent range of home made/ well made cakes and biscuits. Not the cheapest cup of coffee and piece of shortbread around but no objections as its quality products and it is the National Trust and the view over the Kent countryside is lovely. The staff were polite, helpful and busy rather than standing around looking bored or fed up, which makes such a difference. The one negative is the approach up to the cafe as mum needs a walking aid and it's short but quite steep walk from the blue badge parking spaces. Smoked Salmon Sandwich and 2 cups of tea, almost £10 in a freezing cold room with wobbly canteen-style tables that spill liquids everywhere. First bite, salmon tastes odd. 'Lift the lid' on the sandwich, looks like long grey worms. Hold on? These are offcuts off salmon - you know, the veins that connect the fillets and are tough, browny grey and more 'fishy' than the main cuts of pink.Take it back, "Excuse me, these look like offcuts?!" Grumpy response: "That's 'cause they are offcuts."At which point one of the members of staff said to an elderly man picking up cutlery: "Can you move?"Right. Eat en route before or after your visit to Chartwell. The "restaurant" is little more than a canteen and both service and food quality are rather poor. The day we visited, hoping for a nice spot of lunch before a tour of the lovely house and grounds, there was an uninspiring menu on offer with none of the hot options visible in the servery. This makes choice rather tricky. The eating experience is less than comfortable, what with the main canteen being cramped and noisy and the adjacent "dining room" similarly hectic with double doors constantly open to the elements, making for a draughty sitting on a cold, damp day. The food is overpriced but then the clientele is captive and this is the National Trust after all. As I say, eat elsewhere or, if the weather's good, bring a picnic.

Leave time when visiting Chartwell to visit the restaurant. It can get busy. There is nice outdo seating and food is good.

Limited choice of cooked food, it's basic but enjoyed eating outdoors and looking at the gardens while we ate.

This restaurant is in the grounds of a National Trust property, the home of Churchill, being Chartwell. Stictly speaking the address is in fact in Westerham not Tonbridge(this is the postal area) The restaurant has recently been completely refurbished and redesigned. I went early in the morning before it became crowded so I can't say how it works at lunchtime. There is now a central section just for coffee so that may reduce the self service queue for hot dishes. Brand new tables and chairs and there is a fresh modern feel to the place. There is also a covered outside area overlooking the grounds. Prices obviously reflect the upgrade although I paid £2.40 for a cappuccino which was mostly foam. I also had the cappuccino cake which was very moreish.I will be returning for lunch in the future to see if that reflects well on the restaurant.

Great food, but I can't help feeling that they could organise the system a little better. Lots of queueing and if you only want a sandwich and coffee you can get stuck behind a lot of people waiting for hot food. Most of the queue ends up outside the cafe which is not good on a cold day. However, the food is good and the prices are acceptable.

The restaurant at Chartwell is self-service and offers a limited but very tasty selection of locally-sourced food. I had delicious Toad-in-the-hole with local sausages, beautifully creamy mashed potatoes and vegetables with a thick onion gravy, followed by a home-made apple pie with custard. Good selection of wine, beer and soft drinks. Friendly and helpful staff. You can get soup, sandwiches and cakes as well and Vegetarian options. Outside seating also available. It is fairly basic and typical of a National Trust site, but nonetheless good quality food.

On Saturday 6th October I hosted a Reception and Lunch in the Mulberry Function Room at Chartwell. It went like a dream, right through from initial planning discussions till we finished coffee after Lunch. The venue was beautifully presented, the Reception well organised, the Lunch excellent with discreet but very attentive staff. Gets a 5***** appreciation. PT.

My husband took me to the Mulberry Restaurant at Chartwell House in Kent (Churchill's home) on Mother's Day yesterday, to say thank you for our children. The room was beautifully decorated and the staff pleasant but unfortunately the food was below average in my opinion, more like school dinners than a Mother's Day treat.

We used to live in the village for many years and it seemed fitting to arrange our mothers wake at the pub we used to pop into for drinks or food over the years. Staff were so friendly and attentive, food was great and even had some left over! We were lucky to have amazing weather and we enjoyed all sitting outside in the garden where there was plenty of seating to seat 50 plus people. Highly recommend

We gave this Pub another try, but we had the same experience. We went for Sunday dinner. The food was appalling, and the service was terrible. It's our local pub, and we want to support local businesses, but Green King really needs to sort this out. Staff refunded the food cost and attitude was fine but the meal was very poor quality. Shame as pub is in a great location with nice garden for summer drinks.
