Bit disappointing. On a walk and stopped fairly briefly for drinks and snacks. Understood we had to cover or remove our muddy boots - and that they were fully booked for lunch. Just didn't feel that welcome somehow. Advert outside about bacon rolls being available 'when open' - but was told 'we've only just started serving' (at 1.15) when I asked for one. They were also rather slow with coffees - and very stingy with the amount poured in an already small cup. Obviously we didn't bring in the dosh diners would have done - but all of us had drinks and most of us had snacks too.

My husband and I ate at the Royal Oak last night after hearing many great things about the food. It definitely did not disappoint. Everything we ate was seasoned to perfection and absolutely delicious. The portion sizes are generous and we felt it was all reasonably priced considering the quality of the food. The drinks were great value too. Service was great and the food incredible, definitely considerably better than your average pub food. This is an experience. Highly recommended.

Wonderful night out. The food was full of real flavour, as if the chef had pride in providing a top class dining experience. Pricing was fine for such a really wonderful meal. Apparently, there are 2 in the kitchen, but the break between courses was perfectly judged. Service was brilliant, that nice balance between friendly and gushing. What a place! Be warned, there are only a few tables, so book early. This restaurant deserves to thrive!

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of visiting the charming and idyllic Royal Oak in Crockham Hill, Edenbridge, near Tunbridge Wells. This quaint countryside pub, a true gem, is known for its warmth and character. Managed by a family, the establishment boasts around seven inviting dining tables and often finds itself fully booked several weeks ahead. To begin our culinary journey, we indulged in classic gin and tonic aperitifs. As an appetizer, I relished in a courgette and garlic velouté adorned with fragrant basil and Parmesan, while my dining companion opted for the tantalizing Louisiana spiced tiger prawns. When it came to the main course, my choice was the tantalizing Braised Shoulder of Lamb Ballotine with a delightful herb crust, served alongside gratin potatoes. On the other hand, my partner's selection was the delectable Fillet of Salmon, paired harmoniously with Jersey Royals, spinach, and samphire. A glass of Merlot provided the perfect accompaniment to this seafood delight. The presentation of the dishes was as exquisite as their flavors. Each plate was a canvas of culinary artistry, inviting not only the taste buds but also the eyes to revel in the experience. The flavors were nothing short of sensational, leaving me with a profound appreciation for the culinary craftsmanship on display. My dining experience at Royal Oak was a true delight. The exceptional taste, coupled with the impeccable presentation, affirmed the establishment's commitment to culinary excellence. Without a doubt, I'm already looking forward to my next visit, as this delightful pub has secured a place in my heart and palate.

After a wonderful meal last night, I felt torn between leaving a review as this is the kind of place you want to keep secret! A small, intimate pub yet not intimidating to walk into. A wonderful warm welcome as you enter and from there on in excellent service. The food! We ordered in advance and i had a mackerel pate, Absolutely delicious, orange segments, beetroot, dill and radish. So fresh and tasty. Good old turkey roast. My friends had celeriac veloute, pork belly - all delicious, followed by the most amazing home made profiteroles filled with ice cream and a hot chocolate sauce. We also had a cheese board which did not disappoint. Wine menu was very good. I live in Edenbridge, so I am not sure how i have missed this lovely place but a neighbour recommended it and so glad we went. Honestly can’t wait to go back.

The menu online shows sausage and mash at £16 and ham, eggs and chips at £12 and an open steak sandwich at £14, chicken caesar at £14. There is no food like this available at lunch. The veggie option is at £18, everything else is rich, heavily worked french cooking at £20-26 for a main course. The food is really properly good, old school French, heavily reliant on lip smacking stock reductions, but everything is done brilliantly well. It's great, but it's utterly not what the place advertises, both in substance and style, also price. The place advertises itself as somewhere you could have a simple lunch, but it is nothing like this, moreover the same dishes are advertised at a much lower price online compared to what they actually charge in the pub, e..g. the bavette is show online at £16 but they want £21 when you get there. This is not good behaviour, in my view. I made this point when I arrived, but was given a "oh it's just a sample menu" line, which does not stack up, in my opinion. You just cannot list a menu with one dish at one price and then charge 30% more for it on the day. I volunteered that pubs were having a tough time with increases in utility and ingredient costs but was breezily told that this was no issue because they'd fixed ages back. In short- great food, I mean really great, but utterly different to what they say they are, and at a much higher price point, with no awareness of the gap between the two. E.g. the place is a Westerham Brewery Company pub, which would make you think local beer, but when I visited they had just a single beer on, Proper Job. They seem a pub, but they're nothing like this, and in my opinion just need to communicate what they are, because right now the representation is profoundly false.

We'd were a few miles in on the Octavia Hill Centenary Trail and thought we'd pop in to the local "pub" for a quick lunch. We'd been walking for about 2 hours and for the last 15 minutes, I had been mulling over which "bad" pub food choice I would make. Would it be fish and chips or a burger? When Sue greeted us and shared the menu, we thought we'd stumbled onto something that might be very, very good. After Ollie performed his magic in the kitchen, we enjoyed a meal that could rival any fine dining establishment in London, Paris or New York! Fresh, well sourced ingredients, thoughtfully prepared with just the right balance of flavors. We will be back to see what wonders occur at dinner.

We had lunch at the Royal Oak today after a visit to Chartwell, There were three of us plus our young Golden Retriever. The pub was really comfortable with a nice atmosphere. We were welcomed warmly, our puppy even more so, and as soon as we arrived he was brought a bowl of water and a chew treat, followed by lots of attention throughout our visit! We ended up having three courses because the food was so good. The meal was in a different league from standard pub food. Superbly cooked, well presented, and really good flavour. Every dish was great but we have to highlight the tiger prawn starter and homemade Tarte Tatin which were amazing. The only criticism is the lack of parking. We had to leave the car in the busy main road outside the pub which left us slightly worried throughout our visit. But 100% recommended for the food and environment, plus a genuine dog friendly welcome. We will definitely be back very soon.

Their bavette steak is excellent value served with a lovely sauce, crispy, freshly made chips and a salad. Bavette is a really tasty cut made from the flank of the beast, done skilfully in the French style by their French chef. I believe I paid just £13.50 for this lovely traditional dish. Thought I would drink a pint of Westerham Brewery beer as one of their pubs but, only had Fosters!Barman sank two pints why we were there.Took so long for food and we could see other disgruntled diners leave early having sent food back.My wife's bread roll was as hard as a cricket ball inside and we ask for replacement. Fresh food this is not and worst pub experience I have had.Don't waste your time here. Two front house staff, both look pretty fed up.One of those places everyone tries once.

We had a very nice Sunday lunch at the Royal Oak. The food was very good and the attention to detail super! A nice selection of well prepared vegetables from creamy Celeriac to Parmesan parsnips. The quality of the meat was first class and the atmosphere very friendly!

Visited this pub today and was met by delightful staff and we ate stunning fish and chips followed by home made apple crumble, very reasonable and very tasty

Went to the Royal Oak in Crockham Hill for Sunday dinner with the family and dogs after a long walk over the chart and could not believe how rude they were! We all paid for our meals and waited patiently as they all came out slowly in dribs and drabs, despite all ordereding within minutes of each other only for 2 meals to be missing! When we explained this we were told that we had already had them. The bar staff and then subsequently the chef came to tell us that we had already had them, providing "proof" with the tickets (which said there were 14 meals but only 12 plates!) they STILL didn't believe us and basically called us liars and after half an hours arguing decided to refund us the money. They went on to say that we provably threw the 2 plates over the hedge! Will NEVER go there again and apparently the chef doesn't care about Facebook reviews or what people think! Avoid, avoid, avoid!
