Came to eat burgers on Wednesday November 6, at lunchtime the waiter made me pay for a service without my authorization by credit card. I owed 24.50 pounds (ticket) but I paid 34 pounds!!! Watch out for yourself

Food took 50 minutes to arrive for just 2 burgers, with no explanation or apology while waiting. Also when food arrived there was very little ketchup as it was their last bottle. Once arrived the burger was very nice, however the chips were very dry.

Worst service ever. Never been treated so badly. Waited an hour for two burgers. Then they offered a refund to apologise. Then twenty minutes later after burgers still hadn’t come, they realised the kitchen had cancelled our order. Nuts. At this point we were so hungry we gave up and went somewhere else.

Poor service, expensive food, not a very nice atmosphere. This pub is not recommended. Witnessed fake ID's being used by a group of lads, one was without ID and was not allowed to wait for a lift in the pouring rain. The lad asked to wait 15 minutes inside and was told 'get out - it's not my problem'. I was not with that group but it just added to the bad attitude shown to paying customers. Avoid this one!

Superhero dreamteam duo Specs & Beard run the creepy shonkshow in this miserable dive of a pub, giving comically bad service and serving off, undrinkable wine. They also spy on their customers in the toilets through peephole windows, which is alarming. It was such a bad experience that our whole group left early to go to the much better Weatherspoons pub close by. To be avoided at all costs!

This has to be one of the worst meals my husband and I have eaten, out. £15 each for a burger each that came on a blue small plate, no trimmings , just a cold very cheap looking burger. The plate wasn't even a main meal plate just a tiny desert plate, so it looked absolutely ridiculous. In all the meal came to £36 for 2 burgers and one small portion of chips. What a waste of money , we could have got better value at a fast food outlet . Avoid at all costs.

We've lived here for 10 years and what used to be a really lovely pub with great staff has completely deteriorated but most noticeably in the last year or so. I can only margin the blame on terrible management or lack thereof. I know that a large proportion of the locals no longer go there due to its abysmal service and we have also gone the same way recently. I truly hope that something can happen soon to save this institution and make it a place to want to go again and not give a very wide berth.

My sister and I were refused entry by this extremely rude staff on grounds of ID, even though we had a legit UK government issued ID in hand. This lady refused to accept UK BRP as an ID and asked for a passport instead. Who the hell on earth carries their passport around?! When I opened the UK government website to explain to her that the BRP is legit, she still continued to refuse us and said “we can refuse whoever we want to”. This is the second time she had done this to us. I reminded her that although you can refuse anyone, you cannot deny entry to people on unlawful grounds and I am very sure in this case, she was purely being racist. I have been to chequers many times and other staff have never denied me entry except for this lady, (I believe her name is Kelly - overweight, wears black frame glasses and a hair bun). I asked her if I could speak to her manager and she did not allow. She even refused to give an email ID so that I could contact the manager or the owner of the pub. This lady clearly has no knowledge and understanding of customer service and lacks empathy. I think she definitely hates her life and needs therapy.

The ginger lady with glasses from the bar staff is the rudest person I’ve ever come across in my whole life. She denied entry to me and my sister for having a UK government issued Biometric Residence Permit, saying it was not a valid ID, and that we need to show a driving license. She was not willing to listen to us and understand us even when we showed her proof on the GOV UK Website. We have visited the pub several times before but she is the only one who has denied us entry every single time. Her behavior was absolutely horrendous, and she seriously needs to learn how to respect others. We will not be visiting the pub ever again unless she gets fired or the manager of the pub teaches their employees how to treat customers respectfully.

We have been visiting the Chequers for the most part of a year now, and from day one we have been harassed and thrown out over IDs even though these staff have seen and approved our IDs so many times before, and most of the time we are not even drinking, we get kicked out anyway. They are generally unfriendly apart from that. The food and drinks are pricy (£8.50 for an aperol spritz, £1.50 for a tiny cup of crisps to name a few) and service is slow. They only serve burgers and pizza (and have run out of one of those most of the time). Though the food from the attached kitchen there is okay. The icing on the cake though was when we were all told to leave because our friend was not allowed to talk to us from the other side of the road because he hadn't had his ID checked (I'm serious). We will never go there again.

Used to be one of the greats in Sevenoaks. Unfortunately our visit was very disappointing. Service was slow even though the bar was quiet. The London road side of the pub had a stream of delivery drivers using that side of the pub as a minicab office, constantly in and out of the door and also playing darts right next to our table. Unfortunately we lasted two drinks and left. Will give it another try in the new year to see if it has improved. This is the first time I've had a negative experience of this place in 30 years.

As we hadn't been back for a couple of years following a rubbish lunch previously, and thinking it might have improved visited Chequers on Wednesday for a pre Christmas lunch. Ordered a couple of drinks and asked to start a tab as we would be ordering food........ "Sorry can't do that". OK we so sit down a look at the menu to find it's limited to pizzas, burgers and extras. Anyway decided to settle for burgers with extras and returned to the bar to be greeted by a scruffy barman asking if I was aw right. Gave the order to be told" sorry mate should have told you before we're only doing pizzas". None of the bar staff were wearing masks. As soon as they finished serving the staff met outside the front door to smoke their fags. We left our drinks and found a much better venue in Chipstead. What a way to run a business in such an iconic building. Shan't be going back unless there's a change of management

Visited a few weeks back on a Friday evening with some friends and was disappointed to see that the Chequers was seemingly struggling to recover from the Pandemic and lockdowns. What was previously a sligthly more 'mature' and smarter venue compared to the Oak Tavern and The Restoration has lost that touch, and seemingly, its identity. Despite the period decor and hops on the ceiling the atmosphere was more 'student union'. Two of the three staff were wearing scruffy T-Shirts and grey jogging bottoms and only became animated when a crowd of their younger friends approached the bar. Prior to that them seemed thoroughly miserable. When I approached to order the surly bar tender turned his back, seemingly disintersted. It was only then I noticed he was fixated on the till rather than engaging with me directly. Pre-covid the pub marketed itself as a little bit Gastro but certainly had a good menu of pub classics and more sophosticated mains cooked on site. Food choices are now limited to sourdough Pizza or burgers provided by an external business. Our four Pizzas and a side salad all arrived separately and about 10 minutes apart (despite being assured that they wouldn't). Only after ordering were we told that they would be served in pizza boxes (due to Covid!) The salad also came in a box with no cutlery and so when I asked for some I was presented with a wooden fork! Pizza toppings were good but overall it was very dry but that may be the sour-dough experience. As others have mentioned, the boxes weren't cleared away so we made use of one of the many empty tables despite this being peak time on a Friday night. Overall it was very disappointing. I suspect that the pub is under new management since Covid as the service, attire and food are significantly different from before. Recovery, post Covid, in the hospitality industry must be hard enough and is, and I'm sure very competitive. I don't think that the Chequers is giving itself the best chance or attracting it's lost clientele back if it's not going to make a little more of an effort.

This is a lovely little pub on Sevenoaks High Street.I came here with a friend for a long overdue catch up and a few drinks. We ended up staying for food, which was good quality “pub grub”. Had the chocolate brownie for dessert which was sublime. However, this pub scores 1 star from me for the atrocious way they run their quiz.I know quizzes are just a bit of fun, but when the level of brazen cheating occurs that this pub seems to turn a blind eye too, it does leave a bitter taste in the mouth. There were 7 or 8 teams involved in the quiz. The team that won were a team of six, with another team of 4 on the next table that were quite obviously part of the same group. They were conveniently tucked away in a separate part of the pub.Not only did the winning team get an absurdly high score, but there was a compulsory tiebreaker question that all teams had to answer. The question was: “How many episodes of the US version of the TV show Survivor have aired?”They wrote down 596. The answer? 596!When I asked the quizmaster how they could possibly know the answer, he said, I asked them and they said “We guessed!”. Laughable. He then followed up with some vague statement about how they are regulars, and that the staff “try to keep an eye on them”.Yes, it’s just a quiz, but if you are going to take money from people to be involved in a pub quiz that keeps them in your premises for 2+ hours buying drinks, then at least make a cursory attempt to keep it fair. For what it’s worth, the quizmaster was very good, and I enjoyed the food, but I won’t be returning.

Lamb shank cooked to perfection, vegan option (butternut squash roast) filling and tasty (and I’m not vegan), vegetables delicious, and the Yorkshire pudding the best I can remember encountering. All of this in a warm (there’s an open fire) and welcoming (staff were brilliant) environment that felt COVID-safe without a big fuss. I ate far too much - it was too good to leave on the plate. The menu has a good range of non-roast options though: the scampi bites and the sausage baguette looked great and soup, salad and, in fact, everything sounded tempting. And all very good value! Throw in a lack of pretension and a proper traditional pub setting and The Chequers has it all.

We decided to visit the Sennockian as we hadn't been before and are 'spoons fans. Very nice pub, the staff were friendly, the food came quickly and was spot on. One of the few I've visited where I didn't have to climb a flight of stairs to visit the loo! We were there on a Thursday lunchtime and it was relatively quiet for the number of people there. All in all a good pub in a town centre.

Have been to Brands loads of times but never eaten in the kentagon up until now, pleasantly surprised when we decided to try the breakfast. Good value taking today’s prices into account and quality ingredients cooked well. Did have to queue up but the service was quite speedy, it was nice to sit down and eat / warm up on a cold January day.
