Whilst the service was very good the food could have been better. The rare sirloin steak was small and was 30% fat and gristle. Admittedly they did exchange it after a discussion. I heard later that the chef was leaving and the restaurant may be returning to an upmarket Tea Shop!!

Visited on bonfire night so it was absolutely packed. We guessed this so had phoned ahead and booked a table. The lady who served us in the restaurant side was rushed off her feet but did a great job. Food seemed super fresh and was well cooked - not greasy at all. Will definitely be back.

Questioning the rating here by others - was it the timing we visited (busy Saturday lunch)? The signature ‘the Hoof’ burgers were just tasteless and simply so dry! It tasted like supermarket mince in a burger shape and cooked to dry without any seasoning. I was starving but left half because it was simply not enjoyable. Funnily enough, the waitress lady did not ask the most common question ‘how is your food’ - she must’ve known something was wrong yesterday. We could’ve chosen so many other places in Rye so it was a big let down…

We used to have great breakfasts in the past at this location but we were both very much disappointed by paying 40 pounds for being served old bread under our choice of breakfast. First it was like it had been toasted several times at an earlier time that day and tasted like old toast and was extremely hard, thin and a very small slice of toast, that was not cuttable or biteable. When I asked to change it, I received then a slice of old, dry untoasted bread in a place that sells fresh bread every day. It felt like the avocado had shrunk a lot and the egg was cold as it came back within minutes. My husband had the same, old, dry bread under his choice of breakfast. The small amount of ginger and turmeric shot, was mixed with too much water too. The prices for eating out in general have been shooting up enormously in England in the last two years, however, sadly to say, the quality and service in some places have been going down. There seem to be a lack of awareness amongst the owners, chefs and services, that some people also have to work a lot to be able to have the luxury, which it is becoming more and more, to eat out and that they don't want to spend their money on badly prepared or bad quality of food for high prices.

After our walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, my husband and I popped into the Cobblers Tearoom. Just what we needed after our long walk. We sat outside and enjoyed our tea , scones and the sunshine. We were served quickly and the staff were efficient and friendly.

We had a passable bacon sandwich, but this cafe recently changed hands and is sadly nothing like as good as it used to be. Previously the menu featured locally-sourced seasonal ingredients all freshly — and deliciously — cooked. Now it’s just regular cafe fry-ups and pies made in London. The TA description of the cafe was written by the previous owners and now gives a misleading impression of what you can expect to be served. If you’ve eaten here before, you’ll be disappointed by what’s now on offer.
