This cafe is amazing. Stopped here for a sandwich before the long drive home and so glad we did. The sandwich (Brie, bacon and cranberry for me, chicken, bacon mayo for mom) was the best I’ve ever had. Nice thick slices of the freshest bread and stuffed full of filling. The small salad on the side was just right and the coleslaw was devine. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful from the minute you step in. Highly recommend if this cafe if you are looking for good food.

Found The Apothecary by chance after leaving Hastings unable to find a place we liked and chancing our luck in Rye. So glad we did: the carrot cake and the coffee and walnut cake were divine. We both agreed we don't think we have had better cakes than those anywhere and after speaking with Helen, the owner, it's such a delight to learn that they are made on premises - someone knows how to bake!! Coffees were good and the crepes were lovely too and the portion sizes were very very generous. Beyond that the whole team were friendly,.polite and welcoming but special thanks must be made to Elliot who, firstly, was doing an excellent job of looking after the many guests in the cafe. He seemed to be really enjoying his work and was effortless in his customer service. But above that, he was incredibly engaging, showing an interest in the game we were playing, and really made the visit feel special. Absolutely wonderful place and we will be heading back to Rye specifically for more of the same. If I could have given ten stars I would.

Very disappointed with the food and the service. Worst moules marinieres I ever had with no cream garlic sauce either. We wanted to buy a bottle of wine and were told that it was not possible and that the wine had to be bought in a carafe! Never heard his before!? Service was really bad, they really need to train the staff. The bill was £150 for 2 really not worth it. Will not visit again sadly.

This is the second time I have visited The George for a drink since it reopened. Both times have been disappointing. The first time, I visited with a group of friends and we ordered Mojitos. I firstly had to wait a significant amount of time to be acknowledged and served, and when I was, the member of the bar staff told me they were out of mint and advised us to go elsewhere as they were short of staff! The second visit, my partner and I ordered a glass of prosecco and a glass of wine. They were both on tap! The woman serving overfilled the Prosecco glass so the drink cascaded down the sides of the glass, and then handed it to me wet. Weatherspoons could do a better job and at a third of the price! It was a very cold evening and we were surprised that the fire in the bar was not lit. However! Along came a member of staff with fire lighting equipment. The table in front of the fire was occupied with a party of people trying to enjoy a chat and drink. The member of staff proceeded to attempt to light the fire. He went away with no fire lit, returned to check on it and disappeared eventually with an unlit fire. This is all such a shame. It's a beautiful building with so much to offer after everything that has happened. But the staff need to pull their socks up to guarantee returning trade.
