A big selection of cakes, pastries and savouries like pasties and sausage rolls plus sandwiches. Service is at the counter, which was prompt and efficient. Tea came in a pot, which is a plus. Plenty of tables. Retro decor going back to the sixties provides interest and conversation for people from that era. Toilets are OK but need an update.

Very busy at times and a victim of its own success in this regard. Could do with a few more tables or more room between them especially for those with walking aids but space doesn't really allow that. Friendly service without exception. Drinks are ok, and a good range of nicely presented cakes. However it's quite pricey compared to other cafes in general, not so much compared to those in high touristy areas though. Bear in mind the cakes etc are baked by Jempson's locally and so are fresh as possible and are a decent size. Not somewhere for a quiet drink in high season but that's probably true of most eateries in Rye! If you are tempted by one of the cakes, and don't want to queue or pay extra to eat in, why not pop along to the Jempson's supermarket nearby close to the train station (same family owns it obviously) and buy one of the same cakes or cream buns there -prices from about 80p to take away.

They microwaved the Cornish pasties. Turned into one stoggy, tasteless, greasy mess. Basically the manager didn't care! The coffee was terrible. Decor poor. There are much nicer places to spend your money in Rye. Frankly this is just a poor quality cafe marketing themselves as something else because they are in Rye!

Quaint family run coffee and cake shop offering various different cakes and baked goods. The coffee was really good and massive with very reasonable prices. We had a slice of carrot cake, a slice of the chocolate fudge. The cake was delicious! There's various other cakes and sweets available to buy to take away and plenty of seating inside. The two ladies who served us were friendly and helpful and we'd definitely go back.

Went in for tea and cake with my husband. The vast array of cakes looked impressive and being vegan we were encouraged by the sign to ‘ask us about our vegan range’. It turned out there was only one choice for vegans, a chocolate tart. We ordered one each nevertheless and some tea. On taking off the plastic wrappers on the cakes we were horrified to find they were both mouldy. They agreed to a refund on the cakes (as they should), but we felt we should actually get a refund on our whole order including the tea, since we would never have ordered the tea on its own, without the cake. Eventually they agreed to this but reluctantly. We handed the teas back and left. Very poor experience. I’d also like to point out that the place was freezing when we arrived as the front door was wedged wide open. I asked them to close it, which they said they would but then didn’t, so I had to do it myself.

Having grown up in a small town with three excellent bakers to choose from I know a good one when I see it. You can't go wrong with Jempsons bakery. Tons of delicious bread and cakes but being weekend visitors we always grab sandwiches and pastries from them on our way to the beach. What I love about their selection is they don't shy away from the classics, cheese and pickle rolls, cheese salad rolls, ham and cheese rolls. Sounds simple and boring but they are delicious. Savoury pastries and a must try as well and don't leave the shop without some jam donuts. All baked / made locally and daily. Delicious.

We were looking for somewhere in Rye to sit down for a sandwich-type lunch. Everywhere seemed to be too fancy and/or expensive, or takeaway only. Then we found this place. It was just was we wanted. Tasty and good quality sandwiches and savoury pastries and a good cup of tea. The sweet treats looked good too, that just wasn’t what we fancied at the time. Available to take away or eat in at the comfortable and spacious tables. All very good value.

Good place to wait for a train and early morning ( opens early). Been coming for years BUT …espresso need to be served scalding. The heavy cups are to retain heat and the coffee machine has the facility to heat them first otherwise it is inevitably cool which is not how espresso is best served. Small point but worth noting. Overall still my favourite.

Came here today with my family for some lunch and was very disappointed. The whole shop felt very unclean and we were uncomfortable whilst eating our food, it took a long time for our food to arrive (it was just a panini being heating in the oven), and the food itself was very lacklustre and was not at all enjoyable. We were not expecting this as we came there especially because the Bexhill cafe is so nice - real disappointment.

Walked out without buying anything today as I was ignored by staff who were too busy chatting with each other acknowledge or serve me. Not an acceptable treatment for a shop immediately opposite the train station where potential customers need quick service before boarding a train. The result is my money will be spent at Starbucks Ashford International instead, not my preferred choice but Jempsons bought this on itself. Better staff training needed.

More of a cakes shop with pre made sandwiches and hot savoury pies. Hot drinks available which are hot a frothy but not the best taste. Reasonable amount of COVID safe seating inside though the tables are were sticky. With the amount of staff behind the counter this establishment would do well making sandwiches and jacket potatoes to order with choice of fillings. Ok experience only but maybe check other establishments out. Please like if this helps.

Nice cup of tea, gluten free flapjack rather disappointing. I wasn't impressed with a certain member of staff. My partner left his Adidas jacket behind, and we didnt realise until about an hour later. My partner returned to Jempsons, and asked if he had left his jacket, he was told nothing had been found by a young lady, who had a cant be bothered attitude, he continued to search, re-visiting other shops in the pouring rain. I suggested we should go back to Jempsons, I was sure he had left it there. I asked the same lady if a Jacket had been found, again, same answer, and too busy cleaning up! I suggested she double checked, and ask another member of staff. Reluctantly she looked behind the counter, and handed over my partners Jacket! I get staff are busy, but come on Jempsons, it took 5 secs to look behind the counter, and the lady in question really needs to work on her customer service skills.

I expect that small business will find it hard at these very uncertain time and with social distancing measures, now I visit a fair few cafe over the last few years and this is not a cafe but more like Gregg's and would have treated it like that. I found the staff unhelpful arrogant when ordering and when they seemed more bothered about being a convoy belt, if you are advertising as a cafe maybe have someone at the door to greet and offer support,, and if people want to eat in guide them to a table that's clean and with a menu. I would like to think that I've got food that hasn't had people touching it, but more so from the other side of the counter freshly made..

Staff seemed more interested in preventing people sitting down from 1 O’clock on a Sunday. We use cooden beach regularly as we like the venue but it is very over priced for both food and service and very hit and miss sometimes good sometimes poor usually when you take friends there .We had two large glasses of nice house wine (8.50per glass) we then had an egg mayo sandwhich shared it came with a small salad and that was it for 8.50 used to have coleslaw but no more,no problem as we ordered off the menu and knew what the price was however it stated bar service only but then put a service charge on when queried said had to stand as the food comes from the kitchen ,I think it is a shame as this is a nice venue but is very hit and miss and should not be for the high end price
