We had a fantastic dining experience at the Landgate Bistro. The food was exceptional and perfectly crafted and presented. Every mouthful was an exquisite. The service was also first class, we were very well looked after, not rushed and it didn’t feel forced, it was genuinely enjoyable in every way. We will be back very soon!

Lovely Bistro that punches above its weight. We had dinner there on a Friday night and he ambience, service and food were great. Visually the food is very well presented and flavoursome to match. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Finally the wine list was good too without it being lacking in choice nor over blown with expensive bottles. We will be going back next time we're in Rye and would strongly recommend that it.

We cancelled our booking after seeing the tone in which the owner replies to negative reviews on google. Unnecessary aggression and unkindness, we don’t want to support businesses like this.

My partner and I booked a table here, but we read a review saying the owner responded in an unkind and harsh way to other reviews. We checked and were shocked by the way these customers were responded to, especially when Landgate referred to their Instagram to prove they do not discriminate against minorities; incredibly tokenistic. Think twice before you dine here, and who you choose to support with your money.

Celebrating a family birthday, this turned out to be a perfect destination. From entering and receiving a warm welcome, we were given a seasonal menu and comprehensive wine list. We started with a cocktail, an alcohol free cocktail for the driver of the party, and free amuse-bouche. We ordered starters; wild chanterelle mushrooms on sourdough, a beetroot and goats cheese starter, and a lobster risoni, all delicious. Mains were Dover sole, and two Guinea fowl… perfect. One of the party was gluten free and felt confident and catered for. Can’t recommend it enough.

This was booked for a birthday, so we hoped for an outstanding supper. It proved to be excellent in parts. The lobster starter was exquisite, rich and tasty. The scallops with cauliflower and belly pork offered a suprising mix of hot and cold ingredients, including raw cauliflower florets. After some hesitation, we thought it worked. Mains split evenly. The roast guinea fowl came with pastry and a sumptuous sauce and confit potatoes. Lovely. The venison was sadly overcooked. It’s a famously lean meat which only needs searing but overcooking left it dry rather than juicy. We shared a tart tatin for pudding. It was overly sweet, lacking any tartness from the apples, and had not been sufficiently caramelised. Service was friendly and efficient. We had cocktails, a bottle of wine and three glasses. The bill, with service, came to £177. Overall, this is a good restuarant with some culinary ambition and flair but, on the night, some details let it down a little.

This was a birthday supper so it needed to be special. Overall it was good, with two outstanding dishes and two slightly disappointing. The lobster starter was gorgeously rich and creamy, great flavour and texture. Ditto the roast guinea fowl which came as a deconstructed pie. Excellent depth to the sauce. The venison was sadly overcooked and dry. It’s a very lean meat which only needs a quick sear. The tarte tatin was overly sweet, lacking any bite from the apples, and had not been fully caramelised. A pity. The food here is clearly ambitious and inventive. With more consistent attention to detail, it would be fantastic. Service was pleasant, the wine list short but adequate.

The young lady who greeted us, and was also our server, was friendly and professional, as were the other staff members that we interacted with. First table impression was that the flatware were noticeably cheap, and the napkins high-end paper. We ordered bottled water, and it was placed on the table unopened vs open and poured. When courses were served, we were asked who ordered what vs the server knowing where to place each dish, and we observed other tables were treated the same. We both started with the pasta carbonara, served untraditionally with the addition of cream. My main was lemon sole, which was served over excellent fried potatoes, but DRENCHED in vermouth and tarragon sauce vs pooling it on the plate. Pea purée accompanied, in three thick blobs along the plate’s perimeter…it would have made a better presentation as a thinner sauce drizzled here and there. We passed on puddings. The check for two with two drinks was £82, which we found very inexpensive. All things considered, we wouldn’t rush back next time we’re in Rye, as there are plenty of other restaurants…

A friend recommended the Landgate and as it was our anniversary and we’d never been before, I thought why not. A very good decision. The starter of Lobster Risotto was fantastic. The main of two venisons was out of this world. The three chocolates dessert was gorgeous. Don’t forget the fish cake amuse bouche to lighten the palate. All this washed down with a beautiful South African Shiraz. The perfect evening. Service was great and well worth the tip, which isn’t included in the bill.

We had a really lovely evening at the Landgate Bistro. The meal was excellent. Clearly high quality ingredients. Dishes exquisite, but not overly fussy. Scallops for starter, venison for main - both cooked to perfection, and interestingly balanced with complementary ingredients, without being overwhelmed. A to-die-for cheesecake for dessert, perfectly paired with a white port. Our wine - a Picpoul de Pinet was wonderful, and not at all overpriced. My wife is vegetarian, and her dishes were also marvellous. The service was excellent - friendly and attentive without being over the top. And in our view, the whole evening was extraordinarily good value for money. Not cheap, but certainly not at all overpriced. We would highly recommend the Landgate Bistro, and will look for an excuse to return. Finally, if you enjoy a laugh at the entitled and the gratuitously rude in our midst, do take a peek at the 1 star reviews and the responses. I’d never willingly cancel a night at the Landgate after our first dining experience here. But their well-signposted cancellation policy seems a small and reasonable price to pay to protect independent restaurants of this quality from the selfish and entitled who roam amongst us.

A couple on holiday. The Landgate bistro is not one of those big places but a smallish welcoming bistro. The menu was excellent so we found it difficult to choose, having made our choice we then received two portions of focaccia with a dip and then along came an amuse bouche of a mini fish cake. Both delicious. Our shared choice of scallops - excellent. Mains Guinea fowl -excellent. Desert - just had a scoop of mango sorbet and vanilla ice cream was a lovely finish to an excellent meal with friendly service. Considering the quality of the food the price was reasonable. If we lived in the area we would certainly go again.

Some of the dishes were delicious while others were strange. It seems like they were trying too much, which meant some of the creations fell though like the cauliflower pannacotta (didn’t taste of anything) and covering the scallops in crumble, which overpowered the dish. Landgate in Rye offers excellent fine dining at a price that is very reasonable for the quality provided. Everything we were served was excellent, which is rare to find. We enjoyed fabulous bread (some sourdough and some foccacia) with a flavoured butter; an amuse bouche of breaded salt cod on romescu sauce; as a starter we shared an outstanding lobster and orzo-like pasts; and for mains we had one venison and one sea bass on black rice. Flavours were fabulous but never confusing. Really one of our best meals this year, with food coming in at c £35 per head. An added treat was a great selection of sherries and other drinks offered in testing quantities.

Landgate Bistro is a gem that deserves every bit of recognition. From the moment we stepped inside, the incredibly friendly staff greeted us with a smile and seated us at a great table at the back, next to a charming window that offered a cosy, intimate experience. Our server was an absolute delight, she was attentive, and helpful. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfectly balanced, with thoughtful lighting and minimal fuss. However, the star of this gem is the outstanding food created by Chef Martin Peacock. His take on British seasonal cooking is nothing short of a culinary deliciousness. The meal began with sourdough bread and focaccia, easily the best we’ve tasted, served with homemade marmite butter. The amuse-bouche, a delicate salt cod fishcake bite with romesco, was so moreish that it left us wanting more. The starter, and mains exceeded expectations. The scallops with pork belly was delicious and cooked to perfection. The venison served two ways was nothing short of extraordinary—a dish that left us savouring every bite. Despite the exceptional quality of the food, the pricing is remarkably fair, offering great value for an experience that easily rivals high-end London restaurants. Our second time at the Bistro and we were still super impressed with everything. The menu is not huge ( approx 5 choices for starters, mains and desserts) but I would happily eat any of the choices. In the end we chose the Lobster risoni and the venison 2 ways and they were both excellent. The wine list is good and the restaurant are not greedy in their prices. Sparkling water was provided free of charge as was. Bread and a delicious amuse bouche. Service was excellent, well spaced, attentive but not intrusive. When we ordered the bill the card machine was not working so the poor waitresses had to ask for cash or bank transfer but they handled it beautifully. This was our first visit to the Landgate Bistro, despite living in the area for several years. I wish we had visited sooner! The food was delicious; every dish was perfectly executed. The little touches like the homemade bread, amuse-bouche and the birthday candle in my husband's desert (Thank you Keavy!), make this a really special place to spend an evening. The service was brilliant, just enough time between courses and we didn't feel at all rushed. We felt the price was very reasonable, for the quality of the food and service. Our new favourite restaurant! Thanks for a wonderful meal 😊💗

We have just had a wonderful evening at the landgate bistro. The food was exquisite. Lobster to start, lamb for main and cheese. They provided an amuse bouche at the start and a wonderful chocolate Carmel at the end delicious. Excellent quality food and excellent service. Thank you

We had a fantastic meal at the Landgate Bistro. Food was really high quality throughout, using local ingredients in creative ways. We loved the bread and amuse bouche before our starters, and chocolates after the meal as added extras. All of food was excellent, service was really good and the restaurant created a lovely cosy atmosphere. The best meal we had in Rye!

Lovely evening with tasty food, good service and comfortable surroundings. Priced reasonably as well. Some nice touches with breads and then fish to try before the meal.

Lovely shop right off the station full of flowers, coffee and baked goods. The carrot cake was absolutely sinful with the most dainty of edible flowers atop. A must.

I had a cheese and onion omelette. Excellent battle value for money and exceedingly tasty. Took out a slice of gluten-free sponge cake. So moist, so delicious. Amazing.
