Jempson's Cafe in Rother

Had an afternoon tea deal, which was delicious and excellent value and well set up with attentive staff. However the place really needed just some music playing in the background, would really go a long way to elevate the place. There were a few people in the cafe but it was quiet chatter and it felt very sleepy.

Perfect if you fancy weak dish water coffee, stale cake and the atmosphere of a drs waiting room.

Lovely cafe. The service is excellent, the staff are super friendly and always take the time to talk to me. We usually go first thing which means the cafe is empty and this is perfect for people who prefer a quiet, more private experience. The cost of the food is high, not in comparison to its coneritiors but in general (probably due to cost of living crisis). Certainly not value for money although, like I say similar price point to competitors. Lovely cafe, good food (if a little expensive) and wonderful service.

Staff are rude and dismissive about food intolerance. Needless to say we didn't stay.

was quiet and only had a coffee while van was being sorted. that said was great black coffee(no milk to hide taste ) . was not hassled to spend more . large good tasty coffee about £2.50 can't complain

I think £6:25 for a luke warm sausage roll and a coffee was a bit pricey to be honest.

Not bad, nothing special, tea ok, fruit bun ok, hot chocolate, Chelsea bun ok. Prices could be cheaper. Downside: tables to small for 2 people with 2 plates of food and 2 drinks. Had better value for money, better tables and more comfortable seating elsewhere. Not a memorable visit.

We often visit this cafe as the coffee is very nice and we like their bread rolls and cakes. We took friends yesterday afternoon, 25th Jan 2023, and it was particularly nice as the lady who served us was so helpful and friendly, and offered to bring our coffee to our table. I'm sure this helped make the atmosphere so pleasant. As we were leaving this same lady gave us a cheery send off. What a difference it makes when service is this good, thank you.

Wow cracking pies I said to one of the ladies behind the counter do you have big portion meals because I have a big appetite she said we have pies and pasties so I ordered two steak and onion and meat and potato both bang on really good pies sat down with a plate, knife and fork ate them and went back to the counter ordered two more steak and kidney and a pastie both bang on finished with a cream donut 🍩😋 really enjoyed the meal deffo go back 👍

Popped in to Jempsons cafe Saturday afternoon around 4ish for sandwich and a coffee...The coffee was disgusting luke warm bitter taste stewed..and what's up with a proper mug or cup the stupid two mouthful cup ridiculous... staff were pleasant..

Asked for two large coffees and get small ones the employees need to listen to the customer's more as this has happened.on more than on visit to other people as well

Very gud atmosphere n always clean n tidy... Really happy to spending my time.... Just for chill n relax.... Especially in winter time... Its really really awesome n enthusiasm.... Very delicious savouries n hots..chair seatings r comfortable.but expecting little more comfort.. Ambience are fentastic.... Staff service r really very good n fentastic. Over all gud to go.... BUT ONLY THING IS PRICES ARE VERY HIGH... FOR SOME OF THOSE.. Nice coffee and cake there the other day. Plenty of space around you when you sit down. Also has aircon which is a bonus. Staff are lovely to.

Very disappointed with our visit today. Staff were friendly, although service wasn't great, we just bought a 4 pack of sweet cream & jammy buns for about £1.95 for the journey. We had been driving for about 20 mins when we decided to enjoy our treat. Unfortunately, although these buns were well within their use by date, that we just so bad, we stopped and threw them away, taking no more than a bite from each, just in case there was something good to be found. There wasn't. Pastry in all instances tasted stale and dry. Cream wasn't cream, but artificial, sweet cream. Doughnut, was both greasy and stale at the same time, with so little jam it was more like a fried dough ball than a jammy doughnut. Overall, these punishments, as I shall call them as they were certainly not treats, were probably the worst I have tasted. The connsistency is to be admired in that they were all bad and in mostly the same ways. If it hadn't been for the good date, I would have thought we bought out of date product. Honestly, with their position as a quality cafe, these pastries were so bad, that I won't ever bother to go there again. Somebody in charge needs to have a serious word with this shop, or maybe all their food is like this. Very poor. Don't go for sweet treats. Maybe the coffe is ok, but there are so many better options in Western Rd, that I wouldn't take the chance.

Always the same lovely staff very friendly great sausage rolls and tea pig teas which are a great change from the usual plain teas but the best thing are the cake's never sure which one to have

Been there twice now ... lovely and clean, staff are friendly the apple doughnuts are delicious and it's the best cappuccino I've had anywhere ... always hot ... highly recommend this Cafe.

I visited this cafe whilst staying locally for a short break, I queued for quite a while but found it to be well worth the wait with the exception of the coffee strength. I got served by a friendly young lady who took my order of a cream doughnut and a strong cappuccino, she went and made the drink herself whilst another lady took over on the till, who went to get my doughnut and took my payment. This young lady put my coffee on the tray and even offered to carry my tray over to a table, I thought that was a very thoughtful gesture as that doesn't normally happen in any cafe I have ever visited in the past, I agreed so she came from behind the counter and was waiting to follow me to a vacant table, there were lots of empty tables and I felt overwhelmed by having so much choice, as in recent times since Covid 19 you are never given the choice of where to sit, it is decided for you. I eventually chose and thanked her, the doughnut was delicious, so fresh but the coffee as hot as it was I found to be very weak for my personal taste, but overall a 5 star experience.

I'm not a fan of Jempsons. Food not bad coffee ok although my hot Cornish pasty was luke warm. Also I prefer food baked or cooked on the premises and a better selection of cafe food. All on offer was stuff already premade and preheated.

The chicken, bacon and avocado wrap tasted of nothing!! Cakes looked good though.

It's been a while, with everything going on, but returning to Jempson's is joyful. Spoilt for choice by the cakes and savouries on offer I went for the bacon roll option, but will take some munchies for later. Lovely coffee, friendly welcoming staff, clean and safe. Jempson's is as first rate as always. For snacking/ light meals/ treats and welcoming tranquility.

Friendly staff and comfortable place to chill out with a nice cup of coffee and Cake. Very clean toilets also wheelchair accessible.

Served by a wonderfully eyelashed young lady who displayed an enth7siasticly professional approach to the art of the barista.

Best sausage rolls hands down! (According to my partner!) And the one on Kings Road St Leonard's, does some wonderful gluten free cakes...yum!

We have a similar cafe chain where we live in Somerset but loved Jempsons and the local fare they sell too. I had gluten free Victoria sponge and my husband enjoyed a plain flapjack and he loves flapjacks and highly rated this one. We will be returning.

Great to be back here, the coffee is still great and the Belgium buns lovely. Good selection of fresh snacks. Staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Very safely set out and clean.

Called in today. Lady behind counter so very friendly and helpful. Bought 2 huge fresh rolls egg salad and tuna salad delicious just what we needed. Place spotless, hygienic and excellent service. Many extras. We will be back . Thank you. Very impresed .

After making a mistake with my star rating, I am now taking the time to write a review. Both Jempson’s I have visited (St Leonards and Bexhill) have been fantastic both times I have had excellent coffee and cake.

This place is also a bakery. IMHO the best bread in Bexhill. And it opens very early fully stocked unlike places opposite. And you can order goods as they do soon run out of the really good stuff. Highly recommended as I now order mine

It’s clean and tidy inside and the staff are very helpful. The menu is quite good, lots to choose from both hot and cold. Nice selection of cakes.

Went to Jempsons with my Mother for a morning tea and cake. The scone was rock hard as was the Belgium bun. So hard both items of food were left in fear of losing firmly fixed teeth. Feel that the standard has plummeted recently which is a shame as it was very nice before.

Friendly, welcoming cafe with good selection of cakes and teas / coffees - and open til 6 p.m. Many other cafes could learn a lot from them.

Quick service, nice coffee and good choice of snacks, cakes etc. It’s a little bit functional, not cosy but the prices are good and everything is nice enough. The cakes taste a little bit manufactured, and not homemade.

Popped into this centrally located cafe for snack as had been very impressed by quality of goods in their Rye supermarket. A local company , they did not disappoint with great coffee (and one of our number is quite fussy!) and very nice cakes and all at a reasonable price. Quite small, it seemed to be popular which. as there is quite alot of competition nearby , is a good sign. Very nice

I popped in here with a friend today and had the filter coffee, and as always it was great, fresh taste, not the stewed too long muddy liquid some cafes palm you off with, it’s always consistent as I visit here once or twice weekly, and it’s always good. Sausage rolls are really nice as is the cake. Clean and tidy and always a smile from the staff. Makes such a difference and a friendly smile costs nothing. A favourite cafe for me in Bexhill.

Nice coffee, visited there twice this week when visiting Bexhill. Scone was nice but felt 60p for the jam was overpriced! Can get a big jar at Aldi for a little more !;)

Shocking Belgian bun dry and burnt , told the shop assistant really could not care less , such a shame that the company's reputation is ruined by this poor quality bakery item and not caring staff

Nice coffee, a bit of a queue but girl apologised for the wait. Cakes are a bit average but it is relatively cheap. I like the fact I can buy a nice loaf of granary at the same time as their bread is beautiful.

Great range of food to eat in/take away friendly staff

Good sized cafe good selection of cakes,drinks and sandwiches. They also sell gifts. Place seems clean and tidy with friendly staff. Only thing like with most places food is expensive for what you get. Does get busy as it is popular would recommend.
