Average service while at pub for Saturday evening dinner with friends. Drinks order was forgot about, table took too long to clear after finishing starter and didn’t offer us if we wanted any further drinks despite all glasses empty (we had to ask). Main’s were over price for delivered quality and under seasoned.

We stayed in one of the lodges here with our 11 week old baby for my Birthday. The staff here were very friendly and welcoming. The young waiting staff in the restaurant were particularly kind and made us feel at ease. The food was delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner apart from a guest making it clear that our baby was disrupting her dinner. What let our stay down was unfortunately finding a pint glass put under our back tyre on purpose, if we did not notice, it could have given us a puncture. Not being from the area we could have been stranded with our baby. We were not impressed at all and could not understand why anyone would do that to a strangers car. It looked like it was done from one of the customers in the Bell.

Went there with 5 friends, great setting and staff very friendly & efficient. The only complaint is the menu - which is very unexciting and overpriced. Most of us had the chicken Kiev which was certainly not worth the £25 (without veg) it was dry & tasteless, which I’ve seen on other reviews so don’t quite understand why they haven’t improved the recipe. The vegetables were equally tasteless. The venue is so inviting & as I said the staff were great but food not so good.

Delicious Thursday night dinner - but the male waiter was heavy handed and had a weird, impatient manner, a bit of attitude there. They were rushing us through our meal because they clearly wanted to go home. They rang last orders at 10pm Felt like Covid times again. Menu is limited too. This is not the first time we’ve been made to feel like this at The Bell. Friends have booked us for dinner in December, so we’ll give you one last try…

Gorgeous pub, lovely ambience and staff, disappointing menu, disgusting food. There was nothing we wanted on the menu. No basic cuts of meat or fish. Even basic fare was unappealing. Once chosen, the batter was stodgy, the burger, tomato and lettuce had sugar in. Second time we have gone recently and same experience both times. A shame as really lovely pub

Food was nice but a massive disappointment that having seen nut roast on the menu on the website, the actual veggie element was cabbage. And not especially amazing cabbage either. The accompanying veg were nice, as was the Yorkshire pudding, but with a modest portion size, it felt like a bit of a rip-off as it was the same price as the meat version. I'm used to paying the same and don't mind if I feel I'm getting a good alternative but this was a let-down sadly.

We've dined here a couple of times, in the week. Lovely Art on the wall, The servers are generally nice and the food's been ok. This weekend we went out of our way to try Sunday Lunch. We won't be making that mistake again. The pub is in a great location, the weather was good and we were in good spirits, at the start at least. The Ballantine of chicken was dry, weird tasting and frankly inedible. The roast potatoes had been sitting around and required a good deal of sawing with the knife to get through. All my wife could eat was the carrots, which, to be fair were nice. We waited and waited for it also. The server was ok untill he asked the question about seeing the substancial amount of food left on both plates, then went away and came back with a very dismissive explanation that the chef was sorry. No offer of a refund for the mains, and nearly £100 later we left wondering WTF had just happened. Just weird, we both wanted this place to be good, but it just isn't.

This pub makes a great thing out of being quirky. This means that many of its features are just pointless and often irritating. The Bell website is gushing and almost completely uninformative. We stayed there to use a gift voucher issued by the Epicurean Club, now taken over by Loupe. It was the only hotel in the Home Counties that we could find that hadn't ceased trading with the Club. Warning to everyone- avoid Loupe-! That said, the room was pleasant, the bed comfortable and the staff friendly. The unhelpful website had suggested a gourmet experience, which we were looking forward to. But the only fare on offer was basic pub food, some of it given a fancy description, but still very ordinary stuff- chicken or cod. So we had sausages and mash, which were excellent but not exactly gourmet . The pub seems to be popular with the locals, though its drinks are expensive and the wine list ruinously so. Our experience wasn't bad, but I wouldn't recommend travelling any distance to visit the Bell. One can pay too much for quirks.

The stables is a small intimate restaurant attached to the main pub but the evening really was without fault. I have fond memories of this pub. Now, not at all. Greedy owners who have taken over a much loved local pub and driven out the locals with no regard to village life with outrageous priced drinks and food. Only suitable for those with high wages that don't mind being so outrageously overcharged and no soul. Shame on the owners, how can you ruin such a valued community asset, the local village pub.

This Place has been on the bucket list for a while now, as the husband stayed here a few years back for work and fell in love with the place, knowing that I would love it! So for our 13th anniversary we decided to celebrate it here! Wow! Absolutely beautiful! Rae was so lovely and welcoming, told us a bit behind the bell and the history of it all. So lovely! We loved all the quirky things, and every time you looked anywhere you would notice something different! The rooms are absolutely beautiful! Extremely comfortable bed! The only 2 hang ups we had really were the pricing of the food, bit overpriced but lovely none the less. Just think £18.50 for a burger and fries (not even a salad on the side) is a bit excessive, and also when we were sat down and the waitress asked us if we wanted water for the table, we didn't expect to be charged £3.95 for it when she didn't actually tell us it wasn't free. Maybe if the food was priced a bit better value it would of been perfect! Other than that, it was great!

We came here having had a great Sunday lunch on our previous visit, which was wonderful. This time the food was awful. The staff were very nice though. We were informed that they have their summer menu (all cooked on a barbecue). The menu looked pricey (and we’re used to eating out at nice places - price isn’t a problem for good food). So chicken (£22) and steak (£32) comes with sides as extra. These sides include such things as broccoli, sweetcorn and oven chips (described as skin on fries!). These side dishes range from £5 to £7! The broccoli and sweetcorn were in tiny portions and charred. The chicken had been oven cooked and finished on the barbecue. It was boneless and lacked crispness and flavour. The steak was simply inedible (tough, cold and devoid of flavour). We waited over an hour for the privilege of this food being served. Before two of the main courses arrived they attempted to bring us two burgers (someone else’s order). After we declined the two steaks they brought us two pulled pork burgers (we’d asked what would be the quickest). They were inedible as the sauce was so sweet. These burgers were served with a very cheap looking apple sauce. I really am so shocked that a Michelin listed restaurant can serve this food! To their credit the staff recognised the problem and didn’t charge us. We are not the only ones who are disappointed with the summer menu, there are two more reviews on the hotel website (for food).

We had five nights at The Bell Inn and, on balance, the overall experience was 'satisfactory' though some elements failed to thrill which was a pity. The main issue was with the evening meal because the menu is so very limited I really have to scratch about to find a supper I wanted, and the second night was a make-do for us. The food we had was good, better than average, but expensive, modiste portions, and not value. All sides are extra yet the menu offered very little choice and what was ordered was again expensive and lacking. Dull! How difficult can it be? The result was that we went out for the remaining suppers whilst when we booked we were really fully expecting to be eating in the inn every time. Holidays at home tosh - I am reminded why I find myself not in the UK every year for years. The inn has clearly had a fortune spent on the building and it has been very well done to create an interesting, traditional, quirky, characterful fun venue. A tad formulaic perhaps but good enough to get away with its clearly professionally manufactured style. Our room was nice enough, the bed too soft for me but if you are a mouse who likes to sleep in marshmallows you will be happy. The whole village was having its roads resurfaced whilst we were staying so it was fantastically disruptive - mind-blowing! And when the road-men knocked-off there were fast-food trucks that pitched-up running generators in the square - what a racket!!! And then at the tables to the front, raucous drinkers would get louder and shouty as the night wore on. Still that's a pub/inn for you - ha!So would I recommend - just about I think (with such caveats as about). But would I book again? I think I have rung that bell enough now and I will venture on to pasturers new (and yet I am a creature of habit with several favourite hotels I return to dozens of times over many years). There is a big public carpark at the back so that's a big tick in the box for the inn - yup. And I took a walk out across the fields to the back and that was very nice. Indeed the whole area is charming - totally recommend the landscape, buildings, villages and all that. Good for a trip with country houses, the lake, the arboretums and all sorts. More than enough for couples and kids.

Myself and my partner spent a night in the love nest, we had been looking forward to this for weeks and it definitely lived up to our expectations! The room was gorgeous, complete with a bath in the room, log burner, sky window and roof terrace. We had a meal in the restaurant which was lovely and all the staff were very kind and attended to all our needs and requests, breakfast was included which was also lovely with plenty of choice. The only negative was that the window in the roof which could be seen from the bed to watch the stars was controlled by a button at the beside, it was extremely loud when opening and closing and there was a blind to close overnight, also very noisy. There were plenty of toiletries left however, it would have been nice to have a nice bottle of bubble bath as we got through all of the shower gels trying to make bubble bath. These were only small factors and didn’t change how much we enjoyed our stay, but would have been an added bonus. We will definitely be visiting again and maybe trying a different room next time, would definitely recommend to couples for a romantic getaway.

The food at The Bell is stunning. The chicken dish was one of the best I have ever eaten. My friends had the swordfish and were equally impressed. We all had the chocolate cremeux and it was chocolate perfection. Fine dining in a lovely historic setting. The service was simply amazing too. If you are in the area make sure you stop by. In fact, this place is worth travelling quite a distance to.

We’ve stayed here before, the rooms are lovely and we previously enjoyed the pub, the food and the wine so wanted to come back for another chilled weekend. The team are just as friendly and the C-19 changes subtle but reassuring. But oh my....the food has ramped up in quality hugely. Everything we had was a flavour sensation and cooked to perfection. The chef is using many South American influences to great effect. The pichana steak was just amazing but it’s difficult to have a favourite as we also enjoyed the octopus, the chicken and the swordfish. The pub garden is really well thought out and they have created an outdoor kitchen to literally cook on fire....some added theatre and more flavour! The wine list is excellent, interesting and varied.A great visit and give we are only an hour away are sure to return.

A lovely evening under the tree after a scorching hot day. We enjoyed a family dinner with delicious food, especially the lamb, lovely service from Claudia and her colleagues with the bonus of the eat out discount. Quirky yes, but not weird, just a lovely place with great wine and food and friendly people. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a superb lunch at The Bell en route home to London from the coast. We were seated outside beneath a beautiful Mulberry tree, on a glorious summer's day. The food was excellent: whole chicken in honey, aubergine salad and cheesy chips. The staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The seating in the garden was well spaced, and a one way system was in place to enable us to safely negotiate our way around the pub.We are looking forward to eating at The Bell again very soon.

I found this pub on Trip advisor and liked the look of it, we then stumbled across it. It’s located in a lovely small village and the pub is brilliant... very quirky, and full of oddities and the food was perfect, and my husband and I are fussy and hard to please... service was great to. Highly recommend

Hadn’t heard of this place but got a great offer in secret escapes which meant we got our room half price. Don’t be fooled by the outside, it’s under renovation but this doesn’t affect the cosy pub inside or the separate rooms out in the garden. Worth paying extra for the lodges as they are large and luxurious. The dinner was good quality apart from the dry ham and the breakfast well cooked - could have done with more choice and some fruit though.

Just happened to be out looking for a place for lunch on a Sunday, didn’t have a reservation but they found room us and boy I’m glad they did! I went for their roast and it was amazing, beef was so tender and the potatoes tasted amazing! My wife went for the fish and chips and my daughter the burger both were very happy. It’s a lovely pub wish we could’ve spent more time their. Staff were lovely and helpful.

We're so pleased we stumbled across this place. The staff could not have done enough for us from showing us to our room and checking the temperature was sufficient to making us drinks just as we requested at the bar! A very calm and friendly atmosphere felt amongst staff and the locals, making our stay even more relaxing than we had hoped given that this was a very last minute booking. What we saw of the building was fascinatingly quirky with relentlessly entertaining features and quotations at every turn and I can only assume the rest is just as pleasing. The room itself was spacious but cosy, beautifully decorated with all the necessities and the most comfy bed.The highlights were the log fire burning late into the evening and first thing the next morning (definitely needed with the stormy weather) the exquisite roll top bath and the delicious breakfast cooked to order before we checked out! Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Would love to return to try out one of the beautiful looking lodges and book for dinner next time! Thanks for having us!
